Contract Crowdsourcing 2016-17: Day 10 of 10

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the giant and large 2016-17 free-agent market.

If I’m not mistaken, Papelbon could have been had for essentially nothing for the last couple of months. That does not bode well for his market value…

No, it doesn’t. Counterpoint though: you wouldn’t be throwing Papelbon into an already-established, mid-season clubhouse. I think not upsetting their clubhouse atmosphere with Papelbon may have been a consideration. He’s not going to get much money, but he could find someone willing to give him a shot, I think. Then again, if he wants to close, he may not get that chance.
