First-Round Draft Signees So Far
So far as I can tell — and I’ll admit to not having searched with what one might call “utmost vigor” — there’s no readily available and free resource with information both on which first-round draftees have signed so far and for how much. The following table does include that information — along with the corresponding suggested slot value of each pick.

Note: both Baseball America’s draft results page and the internet, generally speaking, were helpful in the creation of the following table.

Player Team POS Pick Slot Bonus
Carlos Correa Houston SS 1 $7.20 $4.80
Kyle Zimmer Kansas City RHP 5 $3.50 $3.00
Gavin Cecchini New York NL SS 12 $2.55 $2.30
Lucas Sims Atlanta RHP 21 $1.83 $1.65
Stryker Trahan Arizona C 26 $1.70 $1.70
Clint Coulter Milwaukee C 27 $1.68 $1.68
Victor Roache Milwaukee OF 28 $1.65 $1.53

Of note: all of the above have signed either for or below the prescribed slot value.

Today’s Notable Games
Tampa Bay at Miami | 13:10 ET ***MLB.TV Free Game***
Regarding why Florida is called that, from Wikipedia:

It is Spanish custom to name a place after the nearest Roman Catholic feast. [Ponce de León] arrived on the east coast during the Spanish Easter feast, Pascua Florida, April 7. He named the land La Pascua de la Florida, or “Passion of the Flowers,” or “Passion of the Christ”

Readers’ Preferred Broadcast: Tampa Bay Radio.

Philadelphia at Baltimore | 13:35 ET
Cliff Lee (64.2 IP, 67 xFIP-, 1.7 WAR) faces the surprising Jason Hammel (66.2 IP, 80 xFIP-, 1.5 WAR) and the also very surprising Baltimore Orioles (1.0 games behind Tampa Bay in AL East, with a WAR record to suggests it’s not entirely a fluke).

Readers’ Preferred Broadcast: Philadelphia Radio (Although, note that the Baltimore center-field camera, which is quite good, might not be available on the Philadelphia side).

Toronto at Atlanta | 13:35 ET
Highly rated right-handed pitching prospect Julio Teheran, 21, makes his season debut for Atlanta today. His (not particularly impressive, turns out) line so far at Triple-A Gwinnett: 54.1 IP, 7.12 K/9, 3.48 BB/9, 1.33 HR/9, 4.97 FIP.

Readers’ Preferred Broadcast: Toronto or Atlanta Radio.

Today’s Complete Schedule
Here’s the complete schedule for all of today’s games, with our very proprietary watchability (NERD) scores for each one. Pitching probables and game times aggregated from MLB.com and RotoWire. The average NERD Game Score for today is 5.5.

Note: the following Game Scores include the poorly conceived playoff-odds adjustment discussed in a recent edition of Daily Notes. Also note: the following table is entirely sortable.

Still nothing to say about the Mariner no hitter here at Fangraphs? Ok. So when a no-name pitcher on a sort of decent team no-hits a last place team, that is article worthy… when a big name pitcher gets a blown call or two in their favor, in the name of getting a franchise their first ever no hitter, also noteworthy… but six pitchers combining to no-hit the team with the best record so far in the majors in 2012, well, hey, throw an article about R.A. Dickey up there and call it good for the weekend.

As much as I like Kevin Millwood and co. I believe a much more newsworthy subject is Dexter Fowler’s .925 OPS so far.

It’s the weekend, turd. Beside, Santana and Humber had to wait a few days for their articles and Weaver didn’t get one at all.

It’s that damn Fangraphs anti-Mariners bias again!

And, by the way, there was a questionable call in the M’s no-hitter.

Yep, that was a close play at first that if you watch enough baseball, you have seen those called both ways. The Mets *No-Hitter**** did not feature a questionable call. It featured a flat out blown call where the ump was actually in the absolute perfect position to see it to make the right call and still got it wrong.
