Two weeks have passed since the last round of questions, so I am once again asking you to weigh in on the shape and size of the potential 2020 baseball season. Thanks in advance for your help in providing these responses.

The only optimism I have is that there’s too much money on the table for both sides not to find a way to play. The pessimism I have is that is that the owners will demand so much that many players will balk at playing for a small fraction of their salaries, with enhanced risk of illness or injury.

I was initially very optimistic we’d have some sort of season, but I’m well below 50-50 now because I think the longer negotiations drag out and the harder the owners dig in, the less interested players will be in trying to get this started. Which sets us up for one hell of a CBA negotiation.

Though I do think there are some owners that actually need the season to happen and if we get no season and every ownership group is able to make all of their debt payments well at least we’ll have proof they’ve been lying to their fans.
