Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 5/2/13
8:46 |
: 15!
|
9:01 |
But to me and my friends The voice on the other end might as well have been God’s 1995, the Division Series Edgar’s up to bat Bottom of the 11th inning Got the whole town listening “Swung on and belted,” the words distorted. “Joey Cora rounds third! Here comes Griffey! The throw to the plate’s not in time! My, oh my, the Mariners win it!” Yes. Fireworks, they lit up ceiling in the Kingdome We had just made history lyrics of the day. should be easy. |
9:01 |
dee gordon to transition to 2b? |
9:01 |
: Might actually help him make the bigs! He is taking grounders there.
|
9:01 |
How much longer until BJ Upton comes around? |
9:02 |
: in batting average leagues, never, not in that cat at least. But I think he’ll hit homers and steal bases eventually.
|
9:02 |
RYAN RABURN!!!! |
9:02 |
Choose 1: Raburn, Joyce, or Donaldson? |
9:02 |
: Joyce. Well, Donaldson if you have a need there, but all things equal, Joyce.
|
9:02 |
Tell me I should not be as excited as I am about Ryan Raburn. (Hint: I am pretty excited) |
9:03 |
: I’m not as excited. He’s a wrong side platoon player who strikes out too much an has a .457 BABIP.
|
9:03 |
Dude, I’m stuck out here in Orlando for business. Anything worth drinking from Florida? |
9:03 |
: Cigar City!
|
9:03 |
Send away Longoria and AJ Griff for Freeman and Strasberg? I have Headley, and I’m rolling w/ Chris Carter/Teix at 1st. My two “Aces” are Dickey & JWeav |
9:04 |
: I actually like this. Freeman is a high floor guy, Strasburg is one of the top three pitchers in ball.
|
9:04 |
Will ben Revere get it going sometime soon?? |
9:04 |
: I think so, but only at a .270 or so clip..
|
9:04 |
Yuniesky Betancourt. Why. How. |
9:05 |
: Big Swings, Nothing Else. That’s his chief name.
|
9:05 |
Desperately need 2B help. Give Lawrie and a closer for Zobrist? |
9:05 |
: Yes! Bad closer though.
|
9:05 |
Why is it that baseball umpires are allowed to be in your face pricks? I can’t fathom an argument where that is good for the game. |
9:05 |
: Not much accountability.
|
9:05 |
Are degenerative hips going to be the new PED? Sweet Jesus, Napoli crushed those two balls last night. |
9:06 |
: Utley’s degenerative knees are doing pretty well too
|
9:06 |
When do you pull the trigger on rostering Grandal? |
9:06 |
: Now! Soon at least.
|
9:06 |
NL only 5×5 auction league… $17 Uggla for $19 Span, he needs a 2B and I could sacrifice some home runs for some stolen bases. Am I close? |
9:06 |
: I think so. With the batting average, Span’s probably going to be worth more.
|
9:06 |
I want to trade Seager for a pitcher. Who of the following could i reasonably expect to get for him? Medlen, Cahil, Cain, Lester, Bucholtz.. Thanks Eno |
9:07 |
: Cahill or Buchholz maybe? Cain and Medlen they might think are still aces, and Seager’s no ace-buyer.
|
9:07 |
What do you make of the start Rizzo is having? K’s up a bunch, BB’s up slightly but he is mashing with a low babip. Not sure what to expect going forward? |
9:07 |
: Yeah but his swinging strikes are same as ever. I actually like him for .270/30+ full season pace.
|
9:07 |
Hey Eno. Who do you like at SS: Rutledge, Asdrubal, Crawford |
9:08 |
: Rut Rut for upside, Asdrubal for high floor. Not into Crawford.
|
9:08 |
Fantasy is so boring. I honestly can’t begin to understand how people can spend hours every week on it. |
9:08 |
: This is weird to me. I honestly can’t begin to understand how someone who enjoys reading about baseball, and thinking about research, and how to correctly value players, and not want to test all that accumulated knowledge.
|
9:09 |
All grandmother’s cooking has a similar musk…… And I love it. |
9:09 |
Yay, no Ghost Eno this time. |
9:09 |
Went to a tasting – six different years of Dark Lord. Wow, it is thick and sweet. |
9:09 |
: Is it mellow today?
|
9:09 |
Is there a good reason for Halladay to be on anyone’s roster? |
9:09 |
: I think he cold be a 75% starter, a decent back-end guy. Still gets grounders and can dominate iffy teams.
|
9:09 |
Ryu, Cashner, Masterson, Estrada, Quintana, Parker and Anderson. Can you rank for the rest of the year please? Thanks! |
9:11 |
: Masterson and Quintana are last. Anderson is a clear first for me. That leaves Ryu (just a little bit worried about league adjusting to 89 mph fastball, good change, and meh curve/sliders), Cash, Estrada, Parker in the middle. I’ll take Estrada and Cash, but obviously Ryu is working hard at changing my mind.
|
9:11 |
Just traded Weeks and Wilhelmson for Hanley, how did I fare? |
9:11 |
: Fine!
|
9:11 |
Dunn done? I feel like waiting for those random homers has become unbearable and not worth it. |
9:12 |
: I’m not into it. The swing changes are past 50% reliable, and I’m not sure he’ll hit .200 going forward.
|
9:12 |
16 team H2H league with HOLDS and David Hernandez was just dropped. Should I splurge with my #3 waiver priority, dropping Marmol, or do you have reason to believe Hernandez won’t soon reclaim his top-5 holder skills? |
9:12 |
: I think he’ll reclaim those skills but I doubt it’s worth that wire.
|
9:13 |
Who do you like more ROS, Alexandro de Aza or Brett Gardner? I want to drop Melky Cabrera because he does nothing for my fantasy team. Thanks Eno. |
9:13 |
: Gardner should have more speed. Similar batting averages? Gardner I say. And yeah I don’t hate dropping de Aza.
|
9:13 |
Eno, best stash for later in the year production? Gausman, Pineda, or Wacha? |
9:14 |
: Gausman suddenly sounds like he’s close. Jair and Freddy Garcia probably won’t hold him back.
|
9:14 |
The Twins are playing surprisingly well to start the year, currently at 12-12, will they be able to maintain or improve this record this year, or is it a fluke? |
9:14 |
: I don’t believe in them. Pitching is a real weakness to me.
|
9:15 |
Who will have a better pair of outings? Capuano (v ARI & v MIA) or McCarthy (@LAD & v PHI)? |
9:15 |
: Cappy at home.
|
9:15 |
Are there any minor league bats I should grab for some 2nd half fantasy goodness? Not the obvious grabs of Myers, Tavaras, or Profar. |
9:17 |
: Billy Hamilton? too obvious? Nick Castellanos? Jonathan Schoop plays second base and Baltimore could use that. Nick Franklin is probably best. He’s an MI, and Seattle really needs that.
|
9:17 |
After having critically acclaimed debuts in 2011, Eric Hosmer & Brett Lawrie decided to quell their fandom by mashing more than 50% of their batted balls into the turf for the 2012 season. And to quell the post-hype sleeper crowd, they’re doing it again in 2013… They’ve got us right where they want us, right? Those All-Star caliber breakouts are just around the corner, right? RIGHT?! |
9:18 |
: GB rate isn’t *quite* stable yet, but yeah, not good. I think it might be okay for their batting averages (or at least in Hosmer’s case), but not for power.
|
9:18 |
I have one move left this week in a DEEP keeper. Should I pick up Jonny Gomes to mash Happ tonight or pick up a reliever (Doolittle, Crain or McGee) to help my struggling holds and ratios this week? |
9:18 |
: Reliever might give you two appearances.
|
9:18 |
Doesnt the marlins trade look a lot better now that the blue jays are struggling? It seems that the worse the blue jays perform, the better of an idea it was to unload everyone |
9:19 |
: It really was an okay trade, except for the PR aspects.
|
9:19 |
Axford should be owned, right? Isn’t he still a decent P? |
9:19 |
: Wish he hadn’t just blown up. He was supposedly moving closer to the closer role again. He’s there, in the David Hernandez and Joel Hanrahan class.
|
9:19 |
Is there a good reason why all Athletics pitching prospects become decent major league starters, and no Orioles prospects do? It’s starting to become a joke. |
9:19 |
: Getting your feet set under you in a friendly home park probably has something to do with it.
|
9:20 |
Ian Kennedy was dropped. Would you drop Cashner or JParker to grab him? 10 team h2h. |
9:20 |
: I wouldn’t personally, but most of the people here would I bet. And in a ten-teamer, you shouldn’t think too hard about dropping Parker probably.
|
9:20 |
What is the difference between FIP and xFIP and why does it matter? |
9:21 |
: xFIP basically gives the pitcher a league average home run rate, while FIP does nothing to the pitcher’s home run rate. I think it can be really useful in shorter samples, relievers for example, because if a pitcher is giving up home runs on 20% of their fly balls, that probably won’t continue to happen. Look at Cains’ xFIP.
|
9:21 |
Trust McAllister with 2 starts next week, one being against Det? |
9:21 |
: I do not trust that man.
|
9:22 |
Sell high on Justin Upton? My concern is the HR/FB ratio. If he regresses in that area, how much is his production hurt? He already can’t get RBIs because no one in front of him can get on base. Am I over thinking this? |
9:22 |
: Yes.
|
9:22 |
Thoughts on Ozuna other than the obvious (raw power, K’s a lot)? He reminds me of Vlad Guerrero, but makes less contact and is slower but he’s only 22! He certainly plays RF like Vlad did – |
9:22 |
: Might start fast and then hit a rough patch. Pick up, pump, and deal in redrafts imo.
|
9:22 |
16 team H2H w/ 4 keepers: Starlin Castro: keeper? He’s so young, and the position is so thin, but he doesn’t seem to be moving forward… |
9:22 |
: Everything was set for him to improve this year, so give him a little more time.
|
9:23 |
Is the craft beer market a bubble that’s about to burst? I don’t know about everywhere, but there are (literally) more than 30 new breweries that have opened recently or will be opening soon in the Chicago area. |
9:24 |
: For the brewers themselves, yes, that’s a huge risk. I’ve heard of many breweries opening and fizzling quickly. Craft beer as a market is taking more and more of the overall beer market, so there’s more and more money there, but the barriers to entry are relatively low (~$50k), so there are a lot of fish in that sea.
|
9:24 |
Eno! I’ve got an opportunity to acquire Giancarlo from a disillusioned owner. He asked for Carlos Santana. I countered with his choice of Gordon or Craig. He recountered with Choo. I’m considering it. Thoughts? (10xMixed, OBP/SLG) |
9:25 |
: Keeper? I jump on that. Redraft? Choo or Stanton minus a month… Choo is a great OBP asset, but you’re probably selling high. You know what, in a ten-teamer I take it. Can’t you find a decent two-week OF on the wire? I think so.
|
9:25 |
jim henderson is looking safer by the day.. can he keep up his saving ways or is regression bound to show up? |
9:25 |
: He’s basically John Axford. so the regression might come for him in a year or two.
|
9:25 |
it’s time to party, yes? also the distributor near me is finally selling deschutes again after an inexplicable 3-year hiatus. is there another brewery that produces such consistently excellent beers? i can’t think of any others where every single thing i try is so good–had the summer ale two nights ago and the white IPA last night. delicious |
9:26 |
: I actually don’t like a ton of their stuff. The Red Chair NWPA is excellent, excellent. I like their seasonal stuff. Really don’t like their flagship stuff other than Obsidian.
|
9:26 |
Worried |
9:26 |
Song is my oh my by macklemore |
9:26 |
Wow easy. My oh My – Macklemore |
9:26 |
Jai Alai IPA from Florida is great |
9:26 |
: slowly warming interlude
|
9:27 |
Was at the game last night.. even Raburn’s foul tips are falling in for singles.. |
9:27 |
: right
|
9:27 |
MadBum or Cliff Lee with K/9, IP, QS and no wins as cats? |
9:28 |
: I’ll take MadBum. Lee’s velo is down, and he’s long overperformed his peripherals in K/9, and he’s older.
|
9:28 |
Better stashes in order Beachy,Lewis,Luebke??? |
9:28 |
: That order. Maybe Luebke over Lewis.
|
9:29 |
How worried are you about gio Gonzalez? |
9:30 |
: His first strike rate is good. He’s getting people to reach, and whiff. Those things predict a better BB% than the one he has, and that BB% is not reliable yet. So yeah, not that worried. I think he can 3.6/1.25 with great K9 going forward.
|
9:30 |
My Oh My – Macklemore. How much are you buying the Red Sox rotation being massively improved this year? Lester looks like he’s back to his previous form, Buchholz remembered how to throw strikes and his off-speed stuff looks great, even Lackey managed a real, major-league-pitcher type start (against houston, but still). Probably won’t be better than TB at the end of the year, but fair to say they have the 2nd-best rotation in their division? |
9:31 |
: I don’t know that I believe in all the current guys, but with Webster and Rubby and resources to make a trade, I do believe in the Red Sox in general. Even with regression, Buchholz will be good.
|
9:31 |
got an offer of Zack Wheeler for Rutledge and Viciedo 12 team dynasty league thoughts? |
9:32 |
: I wouldn’t miss Viciedo one bit. He’s only good against lefties right now. If it’s an OBP league, probably okay to trade Rutledge.
|
9:32 |
Will Yasiel Puig be given a “pass” on his driving indiscretions and get a call up any time soon?.. He’s taking up a valuable spot on my keeper roster.. |
9:33 |
: Probably waiting on injury. I don’t think I’d call him up to platoon against lefties with Ethier.
|
9:33 |
Eno! I’m glad your here today. I duda know what I would duda with you. |
9:33 |
When is it time to worry about Kila Ka’aihue? |
9:33 |
Secret to getting your question answered? (I need to know about Cuddyeerrrrrrrrr) |
9:33 |
: We were warming up there for a second.
|
9:33 |
Macklemore is awesome. McLemore was pretty awesome, too. Is Oswaldo Arcia a legit plus average plus power guy or is he gonna be just another average outfielder? |
9:34 |
: above-average power. below-average patience with better upside. could have above-average defense. sounds kinda average don’t it.
|
9:34 |
So you’re kinda out on Lawrie, judging from that comment on Lawrie+closer for Zobrist? Still a target for keeper leagues or are you selling him if someone else values him as a top-50 guy? |
9:35 |
: No I like Lawrie. I was assuming redraft. Did I mess up? In keepers, I think long-term he’ll iron out some stuff and I still like him for a peak .280/25/20 season.
|
9:35 |
How different do you think Beltre and Headley’s stats will be at the end of the year? Thinking about sending a trade to improve other positions (I own Beltre) |
9:36 |
: Similar but Headley will steal more bases. Doubt Beltre will outslug him by a ton. Might take Headley and an upgrade over Beltre.
|
9:36 |
Were you ever a believer in Dillon Gee? |
9:37 |
: he has a real changeup. a history of control. his fastball sucks. and he tries to throw the fastball past hitters at the letters… at 88. As a Mets fans, I want happiness for him. As a fantasy guy.. I don’t own him.
|
9:37 |
I just traded T. Hunter for Mo Riv. How duda I do? |
9:38 |
: I like it. Mo has more leash than anyone, and his perips are recovering. Hunter looks like a batting-average only guy.
|
9:38 |
Kevin Gregg doesn’t keep the closers job when Fujikawa comes back right? |
9:38 |
: Not in my book.
|
9:38 |
IN an OBP league, would you want Pedro Alavarez or Arenado? |
9:39 |
: Arenado. I know that Alvarez is a little better in OBP leagues, but if you strike out that much, even with a 10% walk rate it’s hard to beat a .310 OBP. Arenado will. And could hit 20.
|
9:39 |
Just picked up Gyorko over Neil Walker? Is this even something worth asking what you think? I feel like it’s asking I just chose a Shell Station over Chevron |
9:39 |
: No no I like both of them. Gyorko’s plate discipline translated, and Walker is injured.
|
9:40 |
Going to Stanford for a conference next week: 1) Where should I sit at my first trip to ATT park? 2) Beer bar/brewpub recommendations near campus? |
9:41 |
: I think you can find some decent seats along the first base line, that’s in the sun if you like that. Standing room only is not as bad as it sounds. Lots of places to sit and drink, then go back out, stroll the park. Super cheap. 2) Rose and Crown in PA is walking distance (University) and despite the smell, has a great beer selection.
|
9:41 |
You went to school with Cistulli? What was that like? |
9:42 |
: Ships passing in the night.
|
9:42 |
“Pertinent” might be the least accurate username we’ve seen yet |
9:42 |
Um, Paul Konerko. 🙁 |
9:42 |
Aren’t the lyrics from that Macklemore song about the Mariners? |
9:42 |
New Dogfish Head out. Sixty-one. Pretty excited to try it |
9:42 |
: yes no yes yes interlude
|
9:42 |
Edward is last of the Mujicans but first in my speculative save pickups heart |
9:42 |
: oh put that one in there and give it a yes
|
9:43 |
Looking to shop Iwakuma/Ryu now to sell high? Or hold on and know they’re going to regress but still will be rotation-worthy all season? |
9:44 |
: I like Iwakuma. Ryu I’ve been talking about. I don’t get it. Doesn’t impress me when I watch. I guess his arm speed is the same on the change and the fastball, and if you’re going to feature two good pitches, FB and CH are the best. Probably both worthy, but trading Ryu as an ace might be awesome right now.
|
9:44 |
zach sanders doesn’t seem to have much faith in garza when he returns. what do you think? solid #3 with #2 upside? |
9:45 |
: 3.7/1.2 with 8K/9?
|
9:45 |
What exactly does pitch speed correlate with, does it lower balls in play or increase swinging strike %. Everyone seems to care about pitch speed–I get it–but does it actually correlate with any other stat? |
9:45 |
: Correlates with swSTR for sure. at the extremes — 93,94+ — it also correlates with lower home run rates.
|
9:45 |
What do I do with Ike Davis? I thought last year’s slow start was from Valley Fever. What’s the problem this year? Does he just stink? Time to sell? |
9:46 |
: He’s always going to strike out and hit for a bad batting average. I believe in his power.
|
9:46 |
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENO! BJ SUCKTON. I know you think he will rebound but…Marte is available in my league…do I take that chance? |
9:47 |
: Interesting! I might actually do that! Marte, even with regression, will hit for better ba. Upton will have more power.
|
9:47 |
I am loving Travis Hafner in that joke of a stadium against righties… Position be damned! |
9:47 |
: I’d sit him against lefties, but yeah.
|
9:47 |
I’m trying to trade Elvis Andrus for a SP — what is a reasonable return? I tried some reach offers for Sale, Scherzer and Cain — all rejected. Then I tried an “I’ll do anything offer” for Samadzja and the guy rejects me. Mixed League, 6×6 daily, I already have Zobrist and Castro with SS eligibility and Seager, Carpenter and Kinsler with MI eligibility. Thanks!!! |
9:47 |
: Wait.
|
9:48 |
how long does it take for Plate discipline stats to normalize? |
9:48 |
: contact rate and swing rate already stabilized. that suggests to me that O-swing is, as well, but haven’t actually seen the data on that.
|
9:48 |
Have you had 4 Peaks Kiltlifter from Tempe, AZ? |
9:48 |
: Yes. Decent. Definitely decent.
|
9:48 |
Allagash Curieux.. an especially buttery ale.. have you had the timidity to try this wonderfully aged brew? |
9:49 |
: Really liked that one. And their White is great too.
|
9:49 |
Hamilton Hamilton Hamilton. Turn it around or destined to be Ryan Howard 2.0 |
9:49 |
: Not looking good to me. Way too many Ks and those are stable now.
|
9:49 |
wait is jair jurrjens currently pitching in the majors? if so this is shocking to me, both because he’s bad and because i have seen nothing about this |
9:50 |
: No he’s next after Freddy Garcia, pitching in AAA and has an out clause in his contract June 15. Which is also the day that Gausman could come up and not be super-two. …
|
9:50 |
10 team 6×6 w K/BB — how much of my $100 waiver budget should i spend on Marco Estrada? (someone dropped him for Rayburn, hehe) As a frame of reference, someone dropped Homer Bailey in April and he went for $11 |
9:50 |
: 9/10/11 is about right.
|
9:50 |
2012 Chase Headley seems alive and well. Do we buy into the breakout now? |
9:50 |
: I always did.
|
9:50 |
Passan on Prospect Heat says Wacha to the Indians for Asdrubal.. Watcha think about picking him up for the long haul? |
9:51 |
: that would make Wacha much more interesting. Although the Indians are taking their time with Bauer so it might not make Wacha much better in redrafts.
|
9:51 |
IN-A-GADDA-DA-DUDA BABY! IN-A-GADDA-DA-DUDA HONEY! DON’T YOU KNOW IM LOVING YOUUUUU |
9:51 |
damnit, if Sveum is in my league, ain’t no way I’m getting David Hernandez without a waiver claim now… |
9:51 |
Alcohol markets are notoriously recession proof. |
9:51 |
Harper X-rays… negative! And there was much rejoicing. |
9:52 |
Also: aloohol sales go up in a bad economy, and so the beer market’s likely headed for a downturn as the economy improves. |
9:52 |
: Guys… what’s going on with the interludes today.
|
9:52 |
Cuddyer or Melky ROS? |
9:52 |
: I’m out on Melky. Everything looks like pre-Royals Melky.
|
9:52 |
How long before the fantasy world realizes that Andrus and Escobar are the same player? |
9:52 |
: I think people are realizing. This year, that means that Andrus is underrated.
|
9:52 |
What should the cardinals do about their bullpen?? |
9:53 |
: Wait.
|
9:53 |
Bullish on Domonic Brown ROS – or is patience wearing thin? |
9:53 |
: I think I still like him about the same as I did — .270/.330 with 20/10 type numbers.
|
9:53 |
Hello, Eno. It’s my birthday. What’s up with Dan Haren? Any hope for improvement? |
9:54 |
: He’s got decent K-BB numbers, and his velo is up a tick. Yes, there is hope. Happy day!
|
9:54 |
Thoughts on these historical recreation beers. I haven’t had one that I liked. |
9:54 |
: Oh like the ginger ones, the meads and such? I’m with you.
|
9:54 |
If your name was Mike instead of Eno, do you think we readers would be spared the informality every other question? |
9:54 |
: Are you asking me to be more formal?
|
9:55 |
Who would you pick up, Reddick or Chris Carter to play RF while Stanton is on the DL? |
9:55 |
: Reddick. Carter is K’ing crazy.
|
9:55 |
: (unless OBP league maybe)
|
9:55 |
![]() Alf had a few to many. Poor duda. |
9:55 |
: ONE MAN INTERLUDE
|
9:55 |
Decided to try and sell high on Cingrani but came up with Starling Marte in a 1-for-1 offer. Pull the trigger? |
9:56 |
: I like it. Is Johnny Cueto dead? Will they really sit Leake for a rookie?
|
9:56 |
Am I crazy to think that Goldschmidt could end up as the #1 1B? I’d take 30 homers and 15 sb over 35 homers and 0 steals from someone like Fielder |
9:57 |
: He’s traditionally been worse v RHP, which is not good, but this year he’s not swinging against low-and-away pitches from righties, and I like that. Obviously has speed. With that K-rate, I think he has .275 type batting average risk though.
|
9:57 |
Thanks to his position and non-hitting contributions, Ian Desmond is nearing Bryce Harper in WAR. (Harper 1.4, Desmond 1.1) – Remember when Ian Desmond was bad? |
9:58 |
: So weird. He was all tools and I wasn’t sure he’d make it.
|
9:58 |
Lincecum and Carlos Gomez for Bumgarner? Which side would you take? |
9:58 |
: BumG. Linc looks toast to me.
|
9:59 |
Desperate for SP’s. Who do you prefer, Garland or Chatwood, both on the Rockies? I know the choices are not overwhelming. |
9:59 |
: ug. Chatwood has GB% upside and velocity, so him I guess. Still young.
|
9:59 |
We fantasy baseball types seem to be in constant worry. Should we be seeing doctors about this problem? |
9:59 |
: It’s a condition.
|
10:00 |
Gyorko or Arenado for a bench spot? Zimmerman on the DL coming back soon I presume… |
10:00 |
: Arenado has that nice home park boost.
|
10:00 |
Gio: 16.7% HR/FB. That’ll come down. |
10:00 |
: That too.
|
10:00 |
What do you think of Ackley’s turn around ever since he changed his stance back? Can he be useful this year? |
10:00 |
: Even now… no.
|
10:00 |
JZ is a top __ pitcher in MLB and __ in NL? |
10:00 |
: 20? 10?
|
10:00 |
Are you worried about Shaun Marcum? He hasn’t exactly gotten off to a good start. |
10:00 |
: Yeah. Injury always around the corner anyway.
|
10:01 |
Thoughts on Mike Minor as a fantasy pitcher going forward? |
10:01 |
: I like him. Velo up a bit. was good in the second half last year.
|
10:01 |
Lester’s first strike % and SwStrike % are both below average. |
10:01 |
: Yeah I’m not completely sold the old version is back, but I do think he’ll be better than last year.
|
10:02 |
Eno, I can get Lagunitas Sucks at the Duane Reade on 3rd between 65th and 66th. $12.99 a sixer. Shocked to see it there. |
10:02 |
: Sweet. Do it now cause it’s seasonal.
|
10:02 |
In Fantasy football, if my kicker scores a TD I get those points. Why don’t I get pitching stats if one of my position players pitches? |
10:02 |
: I was going to say that football was more of a two-way sport!
|
10:02 |
Please rank for this season and going forward in dynasty: Niese, Minor, Cashner, Corbin |
10:03 |
: Minor above all for both. Cash second in dynasty. Niese second this year. Corbin is fine, I like him to be 7k9ish with good GB.
|
10:03 |
Hanley for Stanton keeper league? |
10:03 |
: Sure
|
10:03 |
That pun tried to do double-duda… |
10:03 |
Ludes are heating up! |
10:03 |
Windows 2000 is way better than Windows’98 |
10:03 |
: here we go.
|
10:04 |
I’m in a standard Yahoo league where we get one “NA” spot to hold a minor leaguer until they get called up (it’s not a keeper league though, you can just hold the guy for the year hoping he comes up and contributes). I had Profar and Taveras on my roster, but only one NA spot, so I ended up dropping Profar and picking up Cashner when Brett Anderson hit the DL. I figured he’s be less likely to be a significant fantasy contributor this year – given that he’s not exceptional with the bat quite yet. Did I dun goof up, or was that the right move? |
10:04 |
: No idea. If he ends up in Florida, he’ll start right away. If he stays in Texas, might have to wait all year.
|
10:04 |
Redraft league -Lawrie or Moustakis? |
10:05 |
: Lawrie. Steals split diff. Moose is hitting everythign straight up.
|
10:05 |
Hiram Burgos he had pretty decent AAA numbers how does he project from here on out? |
10:05 |
: Kinda kitchen sinky with a fringey fastball. Could be okay at first, but wouldn’t bet on him long term.
|
10:05 |
Should I drop Crisp (no DL spot) and pick up either V Wells, Hafner, Murphy, Betancourt or Donaldson or just let him ride the bench until he is healthy? |
10:05 |
: bench
|
10:05 |
Does Kirk Gibson keep Parra in his starting lineup when Eaton comes back? Citing Gerardo’s “grit”, “intangibles”, and “playing the game the right way”? |
10:06 |
: Very interesting. Kubel will get platooned, and Ross could even sit against some tough righties, so there’s room for four OFs and good PT still.
|
10:06 |
Why do you hate Addison Reed? |
10:06 |
: I really like him!
|
10:06 |
Sveum said today it’d be a committee when Fuji comes back. woo effing hoo |
10:06 |
: I think the manager statements are not the number one most useful things to track.
|
10:07 |
The Yanks picked up Chris Nelson off waivers. Do you think he’ll turn it around like some of the other players the Yanks picked up to fill injury voids? |
10:07 |
: They going to use him against lefties only, I bet.
|
10:07 |
Any chance Archie Bradley sees the majors this year? |
10:07 |
: As little as I like Skaggs, you’d think he’d get the chance first.
|
10:08 |
JOrdan Zimmerman…… top15 guy rest of the way?… he dominated the braves last night. |
10:08 |
: The strikeouts were nice to see.
|
10:08 |
what is going on with Matt Cain |
10:08 |
: Just too many HRs. He might not regress back to his 7-8% HR/FB, but I think he can go back to 10% (league average) and halve his current 2+ HR/9.
|
10:08 |
Also, wwas at La Trappe in SF last night – that place is heaven if you’ve got a taste for Belgians. |
10:08 |
: Yeah it’s on my list.
|
10:08 |
Carlos Santana or Cespedes in a deep dynasty? Have Cargo in LF and Mauer at C…Cespedes is in my DH slot |
10:09 |
: you have a catcher and selling Yoenis now is a bit low IMO.
|
10:09 |
Big Erv Santana v. Roberto “Don’t Call Me Fausto” Hernandez this afternoon. Prediction? |
10:09 |
: Fausto.
|
10:09 |
If Charlie Manuel is such an esteemed hitting guru … how come he can’t get through to Domonic Brown? |
10:09 |
: They changed Dom’s swing. I think results are slowly trickling through.
|
10:09 |
Do you like kale? I can’t get into it. |
10:09 |
: When it’s crispy.
|
10:10 |
Was offered Morse and Reddick for Hamilton and laughed. nervously. |
10:10 |
: right
|
10:10 |
I had the Firestone Walker 805 last night and was servery disappoint….I guess no one is prefect. |
10:10 |
: Yeah that one is nothing.
|
10:10 |
Some guy actually spent $2,600 (prior life savings: $2,600) at a carnival game to win an Xbox (retail value: $250-$350). He’s 30. And I haven’t even mentioned the banana yet. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/05/01/website-offers-2600-for-nh-mans-dreadlocked-banana/ |
10:10 |
I really enjoy this: http://www.ohbeautifulbeer.com/ |
10:10 |
I think watching CJ WIlson pitch all year would give one a heart attack. That dude is constantly in trouble |
10:10 |
: So now we’re cooking.
|
10:10 |
Ryan Raburn is 2B eligible and Im in a 16 team league, worth an add since all I have is Tejada playing there? |
10:11 |
: Well you need him, but you also need Tejada to form the platoon.
|
10:11 |
Wilin Rosario: elite catcher? The BA is due to regress, and he may not keep up 40HR pace, but even at .270 and 30+ HR he has to be close to Posey and Santana, no? |
10:11 |
: Yeah I think we had him fourth or fifth?
|
10:11 |
When does Nick Franklin get the call for the M’s? Dont they just need to do something? Will they move Franklin back to SS or send a message to Ack by demoting him, even though he is “up to”.245/.283/.277 |
10:11 |
Can Nick Franklin provide any mixed league value this year? |
10:11 |
: Talked about him earlier. I think he’s on his way up soon.
|
10:11 |
Haha. I was just thinking how stupid, and inaccurate my handle was. But now I can’t change it. Pertinent is here to stay. |
10:11 |
: we all need a little humor about ourselves. it’s perfect.
|
10:12 |
Pick two: Griffin, Parker, Teheran, Gee, Straily, Cashner, Villanueva, Collmenter. K/BB replaces straight K’s |
10:12 |
: parker and Cashner.
|
10:12 |
“3.7/1.2” – what is that, ERA/WHIP? |
10:12 |
: yes
|
10:12 |
Eno, you should move to Michigan for the summers. Tons of awesome beaches and lakes, world class breweries and beer scene in general, great baseball, not too hot, pretty much has it all. |
10:12 |
: Yeah and the Ann Arbor beer fest is great.
|
10:12 |
In deep dynasty,Should I drop Erasmo? |
10:13 |
: Hold for a bit longer. If Maurer doesn’t turn it around..
|
10:13 |
What’s up with Lucroy? |
10:14 |
: I ran catcher BABIP once and got .285. Can’t depend on a catcher for a good batting average unless he’s in his prime Victor. I think he can .270 or so going forward.
|
10:14 |
What’s up with Salvador Perez? Do I trade Napoli for him in a dynasty league? |
10:15 |
: See above. slightly better BA. less power. you can make the trade but only because Napoli won’t catch foreer.
|
10:15 |
My hair’s on pace for about 15 WAR this season, yes? |
10:15 |
: I’d whoop his ass on that scale. He’s got pretty much everything else.
|
10:16 |
That song is about Dave Niehaus! Any chance that Josh Johnson returns to Josh Johnson |
10:16 |
: Not JOSH JOHNSON, but maybe josh johnson. swinging strikes and velo doing okay. control should get better.
|
10:17 |
Jay Bruce is making me sad 🙁 |
10:17 |
: power will come
|
10:17 |
Wait you don’t like Black Butte porter? I’ve only heard good things about it and I’m finally going to get the chance to try it this summer. |
10:17 |
: The seasonal Black Butte was great.
|
10:17 |
Is Matt Harvey really this good? Would you trade Matt Cain to get him? |
10:18 |
: Sure. Harvey’s strikeouts are for real and he can handle regression and still be a better K asset.
|
10:18 |
: But I might ask for a sweetener because he’s so young and all
|
10:18 |
Time to cut bait on Jesus Montero in a 10 teamer w 1 catcher? (could keep him for $4) |
10:18 |
: yes. ten-teamers need to be more cut throat.
|
10:19 |
Who can I get for Hamilton right now, Duda, Reddick, Moss or can I do better? |
10:19 |
: I would not do that trade. as much as I don’t believe in Hamilton, might as well hold if those are the offered names.
|
10:19 |
Do any players actually sir down and watch another baseball game, on TV, just for fun? only during playoffs, maybe? |
10:20 |
: Baseball is always on in the clubhouse and there are usually people watching. Maybe not WATCH it, like sit down and watch all the way thorugh.
|
10:20 |
Does it bother anyone else that pitching 9 innings and giving up 4 earned runs is not a quality start but 6 and 3 is? |
10:20 |

|
10:23 |

|
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
Hey Eno–should I be worried about my pitching staff? Cliff Lee, Dickey, Morrow, Zimmermann, Greinke, Cashner? Seemed pretty good coming into the year! I have a 2 in ERA and a 4 in WHIP…
You should be worried about your ability to read where to put your questions.
I literally LOL’ed at that in a crowded office, that I’m supposed to be working in.
