| 12:01 |
: (I will say maybe I was a bit overexcited. the curve is more of a 60, and the change and slider probably 70s. But that fastball, with the command, and velocity, is an 80.)
|
| 12:02 |
Mac DeMarco live is amazing. He even played a killer version of “Reelin’ in the Years” Also, D’Angelo and the Vanguard are the closest thing to a James Brown show I’m likely ever going to see. |
| 12:02 |
: I saw him in the rain at Pitchfork but enjoyed
|
| 12:02 |
:
|
| 12:03 |
Are you the high, middle, or low man on Carlos Rodon? |
| 12:04 |
: Middle. HIs change has good shape but he doesn’t trust it. Command was terrible… but better recently. I’d buy if I didn’t have to pay old prices for him.
|
| 12:04 |
Still no Sporer chat. Hunger strike continues… |
| 12:04 |
: We’ll figure this out. At the very least, he’ll have a regular spot next year, no worries.
|
| 12:04 |
I didn’t even know my slider usage was down! Thanks for pointing that out on Twitter a second ago! |
| 12:05 |
: Yeah, dunno if that’s the reason, or if Maddon is worried about going through the batting order a third time with two pitches. But it doesn’t really surprise me. This guy has had health issues and been a two-pitch pitcher, and this is probably how I would handle a guy like that.
|
| 12:05 |
You have always touted Polanco, are we seeing what he is now? BABIP is high but man is he scorching hot. |
| 12:06 |
: Getting there. BABIP for year could actually get better. Now we see that above-average patience, above-average contact, good speed, and the last piece is the power.
|
| 12:06 |
I sure hope Eno brings the weird today. |
| 12:06 |
: Well I depend on y’all too.
|
| 12:06 |
Billy Hamilton’s numbers at the plate haven’t improved, but his base stealing has. Will he ever be a .300 or more OBP guy? Is it time to flip him to an owner desperate for steals in dynasty/keeper leagues? |
| 12:07 |
: He’s a good enough defender that he’ll always have a job, and a good enough base stealer to be an asset from the bottom of the order. But 1000 PAs and I don’t see anything better than .250/.300 out of him going forward.
|
| 12:07 |
Where is Pineda = best in NY guy when you need him? |
| 12:07 |
woof woof woof woof woof woof woof |
| 12:08 |
I Wish My Brother Faye Was Here |
| 12:08 |
: We can do better.
|
| 12:08 |
Are the Blue Jays for real? |
| 12:08 |
: Well they definitely exist.
|
| 12:08 |
: Oh, and they’re awesome. Yes.
|
| 12:08 |
start eovaldi tonight @ CLE? |
| 12:09 |
: If not now, when. Using the split a lot more and it’s been really good for him. Nice park, nice matchup, giddyap.
|
| 12:09 |
Wondering about stolen base projections as I sucked at those this season. Someone like Rajai Davis who ends up platooning vs. lefties: he still gets on base, but mostly against pitchers who are harder to run off since they’re lefties. Thoughts? |
| 12:10 |
: Yeah and stolen bases age really really terribly. So they’ll always be a young man’s game, which means you’re shopping in the prospect and mega hype bin. Stolen bases suck.
|
| 12:10 |
What does the future look like for Juan Lagares? |
| 12:10 |
: Billy Hamilton without the stolen bases?
|
| 12:10 |
Sano breaks out! Is he for real for a real long time? He tides me over while we wait for Berrios! |
| 12:11 |
: He hits the ball so hard. .250/.375/.500 perennial dude, 35 homers, gonna peak at like .270/.400/.580 or something nasty, with 40+. Yes, he’s awesome. Going to have some tough years because of contact, but he’s really really good.
|
| 12:11 |
One thing I have been pondering for some time now is how does one get into the baseball writing for a living? I suppose, as Dave has said in his own chats when asked, I do have a specific area I love albeit large, I love the NL. It’s my specialty and I have always loved to write and still do so in my free time. However, I am having a hard time figuring out to turn my hobby and love into a career. ENO PLS HALP |
| 12:14 |
: It’s so hard. So so so hard. I think the NL is a bit large still. I was a bit of a generalist, wrote fantasy though. And was a saber guy early on for fantasy, maybe. Now, I’d go with what Cameron said and really try to nail a niche. NL Prospects is better. NL Prospects on one team. NL-Only dynasty leagues. NL-only hitters. Catchers, be all about catchers. Korea. Japan. Puerto Rico. A minor league team you can visit. Longevity, really try to figure out which players age the best so that you can recommend old guys. Find a little niche, and then at some point one of the small majors will call, and ask you to be their guy in that niche. Patrick Newman has a nice job so he won’t do it, but he dominated Japanese baseball writing and has had many opportunities to switch over.
|
| 12:14 |
ME THROW 50% SINKERS. ME INDUCE WEAK CONTACT. ME WALK TOO MANY AND HAVE MINOR HOMERITIS. ME NEED TRUST STUFF. |
| 12:15 |
: Funny, he knows this. Told me almost verbatim that he needs to aim for middle and let movement do the rest. But he also has great side to side movement, and has been working on getting up/down movement so that he can miss bats better. I actually like the kid, hope it’s not because he’s smart, but he has *really* bendy stuff. Above-average movement on all pitches.
|
| 12:15 |
Does Rafael Montero have a chance to contribute at the major league level this year? |
| 12:16 |
: Heard he was 88-89 in last rehab start… Probably not.
|
| 12:16 |
hey eno |
| 12:16 |
“Honey our Son doesn’t know who Boz Skaggs is, we’ve failed as Parents” |
| 12:16 |
Camineros back. That is all |
| 12:16 |
: Okay we getting somewhere now.
|
| 12:16 |
I overdrafted Iwakuma, started him for the bad games early, held onto him on my DL, got him back and sold low. I don’t have a question. Just regrets… |
| 12:17 |
: Have to remember his injury history! Was pumping 82 in Japan the year his deal with Oakland got scuttled. People thought he might be done.
|
| 12:17 |
Worth holding onto ERod in a 14 teamed?? Or better off with a pitcher like neise?? |
| 12:17 |
: Oh god. I hate Niese’s stuff, but in a redraft, his floor is so much higher. Rodriguez is inconsistent, as much as I like his stuff, you may want to go in that direction.
|
| 12:18 |
Are Gallo or Baez worth stashing for the stretch to hopefully catch fire or prove worthy of being kept in a deep keeper? |
| 12:18 |
: Perfect guys to put on bench because their ceiling is actually good enough to get into keep 8 territory, and if they made some adjustments, you might see it quickly (in K% or swSTR%).
|
| 12:18 |
What do you think of Schwarber for 2016? I’m usually not one to keep a C, but he is tempting to see in a different light. |
| 12:18 |
: He might be an LF with C eligibility which IS GOLD
|
| 12:18 |
I never read your opinion on the Phillies haul from the Rangers for Hamels. I feel the Rangers should have held on to Nick Williams, did they give up too much? |
| 12:19 |
: They got Hamels for super cheap. It was going to take one of their outfielders and I’d prefer to keep Mazara over Williams too. Brinson… Brinson I might have given up over Williams, but his ceiling is higher than Wlliams because he might have more power.
|
| 12:19 |
Actually it’s been since I played against Duda when had that 7 HR week and I’ve been waiting to complain to you ever since. Can you give me the address of that Duda lover so I can fight him? |
| 12:19 |
I clinched playoffs last week. It feels nice. |
| 12:20 |
: there he is, BM
|
| 12:20 |
Pick up Stroman if you’re a playoff team? |
| 12:20 |
: Nah I think he’s a long man until *maybe* the last week of season. Pretend it’s February 20th for Stroman.
|
| 12:20 |
would you trade Posey for Soler+Matz/Berrios/Rodon? keeper lg with a minors list. I have strong keepers at major level, one of them is going to get squeezed out, and Soler+the young Ps are stil minors eligible |
| 12:21 |
: Oh you can keep Soler and Matz as minor leaguers? Oh man yeah I like that actually.
|
| 12:21 |
What’s the best beer produced in VA? I say O’Connor El Guapo or Full Nelson IPA. |
| 12:21 |
: Stone just opening up shop there, right? Might change soon.
|
| 12:21 |
I still firmly believe in a 120 wRC+ for Jayson Werth in 2016. No, I’m not crazy. |
| 12:21 |
: A year removed from that surgery, not imporssible.
|
| 12:21 |
: Imporssible.
|
| 12:21 |
ME ALMOST STARTED JESSE CHAVEZ IN TORONTO. ME HAPPY ME REALIZED IN TIME |
| 12:21 |
: PHEW
|
| 12:21 |
Sorry if this is a few weeks late, but what the hell are the Marlins doing with Marcel Ozuna? I guess I understand sending him down when he struggled, but why not bring him up once he got his swing back |
| 12:22 |
: Trying to make sure he’s not super two, I’d guess.
|
| 12:22 |
Utley in G’s uniform scares me at this point…Is Panik really dinged that bad? |
| 12:22 |
: yeah I didn’t think so, and what happens to Utley when Panik comes back??
|
| 12:22 |
Are the Mets really going to shut down Harvey? Is Karns an acceptable replacement if they do? |
| 12:22 |
: No, I think they’ll go to a six-man rotation, and you’ll lose about a start from each of the guys.
|
| 12:22 |
The one thing I will say about Sano; dude knows how to work the dugout cameras, he’s always winking or waving everytime they show him. |
| 12:22 |
: They made a movie about him before he was even signed by a major league team so
|
| 12:22 |
What are your thoughts on Aaron Hicks? Seems that he’s putting it together, they’ve moved him to leadoff as of last night. |
| 12:23 |
: I’m buying. Totally. I’ll take 90% of what he’s doing now.
|
| 12:23 |
Is Leonys Martin ever going to not-suck again? |
| 12:24 |
: He’s 27 and couldn’t show power in Texas, so I think his ceiling is .260/.310/.370 or so. with 5 homers, 25 stolen bases. Platoon deep leaguer.
|
| 12:24 |
how was cueto’s wiggle not a balk? |
| 12:24 |
: Well… it didn’t come at the moment he set his hands?
|
| 12:24 |
To really stand out, BeerGraphs regress for distribution into its rankings. For example, Union Jack keeps on winning blind IPA taste tests, yet is so widely available, that it ranks lower than some beers that people have to travel or trade for, like PtE. How can you factor that in? |
| 12:26 |
: The hype factor. We do have xScore we could maybe put on the leaderboards. It takes your brewery name and ABV and style and predicts the score. It gets at the Hill Farmstead thing a little, where you’re going to give them 4.2 stars just because of the name on the bottle. As for quantity of checkins, we actually reward beers for number of checkins because that means their score is more meaningful. I think in Easy Jack’s case, the beer nerds want more ABV and more taste. My favorite beer is either AleSmith X or Fieldworks’ mosaic version of AleSmith X.
|
| 12:26 |
So Eaton has 9 HR…is this legit? If so, this means he has the skillset to be a 15/30 guy with a good average next year, right? |
| 12:27 |
: I’ll call him a .275/15/15 guy with his new batted ball mix.
|
| 12:27 |
Re: Juan Legares’ future – I’m pretty sure his future is the same as all of ours (subservience to robot overlords) |
| 12:27 |
: Well there’s that.
|
| 12:27 |
how do i beat this hangover i gotta get shit done someone send me pedialite |
| 12:27 |
: gatorade works too. and GET THIS MAN SOME FRIES STAT
|
| 12:27 |
|
| 12:27 |
: um
|
| 12:27 |
Ruggy Odor–future top-5 2B? |
| 12:28 |
: Power looks legit. Plate discipline and efficiency on basepaths are worrisome though. May only be a .275/20/5 guy, which… that might be top five actually.
|
| 12:28 |
Eno, I like Shipyard’s Smashed Blueberry quite a bit. This is ok right? As in, I won’t get judged for it. |
| 12:29 |
: I haven’t liked them much, but I’m not about judging. I’m about trying beers that other people really like to get a sense of what people like and what sorts of tastes are out there.
|
| 12:29 |
RE Iwakuma, I saw you throwing cold water on him pre-season, and blatantly ignored it, then overreacted to you (and others) citing his velo being way down when he first came back. None of this makes me feel any better. |
| 12:30 |
: Good when he’s in there, I guess.
|
| 12:30 |
do you wear a shirt and tie and suit coat but no pants to do these chats, like how I do video interviews? |
| 12:30 |
: you’re right generally, but think fewer clothes.
|
| 12:30 |
Fish tacos, breakfast of champions |
| 12:30 |
COME ON ENO…It’s totally an illegal delivery, it interrupts his pitching motion. |
| 12:30 |
: Don’t bother me with the rule book. Especially when dancing is on the line.
|
| 12:30 |
Vin Scully on Jayson Werth: “Behind all that hair, he’s 36 years old.” |
| 12:30 |
wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle |
| 12:30 |
Does Turner get right back into his groove after recovering from his infected butt pimple? |
| 12:31 |
: Ok guys I think we’re hitting our stride.
|
| 12:31 |
Andruw Jones had 64 WAR by the age of 30. I occasionally feel minor distress that he won’t be in the HOF. |
| 12:31 |
: yeah but man the slider on the outside corner
|
| 12:31 |
Sano. He has the sex. |
| 12:31 |
What is the best beer here in NJ, and can I get stuff from the Maine Beer Co. down this way? Any recommendation from them? |
| 12:32 |
: Carton’s Boat Beer, stuff from Carton, I think Captain Lawrence is in NJ, they’re good. Maine beats it all if you can see any IPA from them.
|
| 12:32 |
Do I get to believe that something for reals “clicked” for Bubba Starling in AA during his age 22 season? September callup next year, or should I keep my hopes down where they used to be? |
| 12:32 |
: People I trust have been telling me he’s no good for so long that I’ll just continue to believe them till they update their feelings on the matter.
|
| 12:32 |
Thoughts on Raul Iglesias ROS and dynasty? |
| 12:33 |
: Man I like Raisel. Has the pitches. And is keeping his velocity a little better now http://www.brooksbaseball.n…
|
| 12:33 |
Is Puig the most difficult personality to manage in the game? I don’t get why writers are so convinced he’s getting shipped this winter. |
| 12:34 |
: I guess. It’s kind of ridiculous in the clubhouse. I’ve seen a ton of eye rolls from veterans, and he’s running around smacking people on the ass and just being ridiculous. But he’s such a talent and clubhouse stuff… The Mets had the worst clubhouse feeling I’ve seen this year and they’re winning. It’s not a big deal.
|
| 12:34 |
is edwin jackson a good keeper choice in a keep 4 thansk eno!!!! |
| 12:35 |
: lol
|
| 12:35 |
Thor giving up bombs, he was due. Time to kick back and listen to some Boz Scaggs and Lude away. |
| 12:35 |
Tillman lit up last night. Do you still see him as a buy-low for ROS. My starting pitching is mighty thin. |
| 12:35 |
: Ankle problem. I’d buy in anything deeper than 12team mixed.
|
| 12:35 |
good NJ beer = KANE, a night to end all dawns stood out among even world class barrel aged stouts |
| 12:36 |
What are we thinking about the RED HOT Chris Davis? He’s still striking out, but he’s taking walks and hitting a ton of home runs? Is he keeper worthy on a team with Trout, Stanton, McCutchen, Machado and Betts? |
| 12:36 |
: I wouldn’t keep him over any of those guys, the aging curve may not be kind to him.
|
| 12:36 |
re NJ beer: Captain Lawrence is in NY. But Carton and Kane make good stuff. Bolero Snort’s one-offs have been good. New Breweries Brix City and Magnify have been pretty good so far. |
| 12:36 |
Iwakuma’s projections were terrific pre-season. Have you and Sporer ever sat down and gone over all the guys you were high (Hutch, Greene, Kang, etc) and low (Iwakuma, etc) on and see how you did? I’m not sure how to say this without sounding snarky (and I like your stuff!), but why do you sometimes think you’re seeing something that ZIPs or Steamer is missing? |
| 12:39 |
: Players change, so yes I think, especially with pitchers, you can see something before the numbers see them. Think about pitching mix, and a pitcher changing his mix. Think about Aaron Hicks, now swinging almost 10% more of the time than he did before, that’s different. Think about a velocity bump, or a switch from a bad four-seamer to a good two seamer (Kluber) or vice versa (McHugh). In the case of Greene, the changeup had good shape and did fine when he threw it more, but he lost his slider. Kang? When you’re so much better than a bad league, I think the translations sometimes miss your upside. Hutch? Continually changing his slider, velocity loss. And, one last thing: I take chances. I talk about pitchers that some people think are relievers and say, no, DeSclafani, Chase Anderson, Raisel Iglesias, these guys are not relievers, they have the pitching mix, they have the pitches. They’ll be good, and those guys are good. Are they great? That’s what you need in fantasy, and maybe they aren’t. But they didn’t cost you much.
|
| 12:39 |
Best new beer I’ve tried in a long time – a passion fruit berliner by 4 Hands out of STL that is apparently somewhat readily available in cans. Every beer nerd that enjoys fruited berliners should seek this one out. Lovely, clean flavor with a little tart kick and minimal funk. Crushable for days in the sun. It’ll be a new summer staple in my fridge alongside Stigel Radler and Westbrook Gose |
| 12:40 |
: Dammit I saw that in Binny’s and got a stout and an IPA from them instead.
|
| 12:40 |
love that talking toilet paper, I sit and mutter to myself about which fantasy moves I should of done while I’m on the can, so company is nice. But what the hell is that about to descent into that cup? |
| 12:40 |
Yasiel Puig. Thoughts about him in an OBP dynasty league? Pursue or watch from afar while he figures himself out? |
| 12:40 |
: Go get him
|
| 12:40 |
can we get more selfie stick eno-views |
| 12:40 |
: Hah, I use it for my 120 sports appearances…
|
| 12:41 |
That’s quite a projection for Sano – does that make him keeper-worthy in a 12-team 5×5 mixed, keep 4 forever? |
| 12:41 |
: It’s basically only 30 points of OBP different from the projection on this site right now, and I believe in his walk rate. His batting average will keep him down to that fourth keeper, but without knowing… as a DH? Borderline.
|
| 12:42 |
Before the first A-Bomb test the scientists apparently were taking bets as to whether the bomb would ignite the atmosphere and end all life on the planet. How did someone dumb enough to take the other side of that bet become a nuclear physicist? |
| 12:42 |
: “If we’re right we’ll kill millions of people, if we’re wrong, we’ll kill everyone.” Hmmm sounds like a good bet!
|
| 12:42 |
Kolton Wong ceiling? |
| 12:43 |
: He’s 24… I see more power… .268/.331/.404 now. I think he could .275/.350/.425, maybe a little more power, so .275/18+/15 in fantasy terms.
|
| 12:43 |
Fieldwork and Henhouse are (bc super small I guess) doing phenomenal stuff under the radar. |
| 12:44 |
: Fieldwork is a must-visit in the bay area. Cellarmaker, Fieldwork, The Rare Barrel. GO.
|
| 12:44 |
You call who .275/15/15? Hicks? |
| 12:44 |
: Adam Eaton.
|
| 12:44 |
My league uses net steals instead of steals; any opinion on this? Seems like a better statistic to me. |
| 12:45 |
: Eh, it just gets out in front. Guys with bad net steals don’t keep stealing.
|
| 12:45 |
I know he’s doing it on a terrible team, but I like what I see out of Cesar Hernandez in Philly. He’s like a Dee Gordon lite. Is he underrated, or am I just overrating him? Looks like a guy that could hit .275 with 35-40 steals over a full season… |
| 12:46 |
: Needs to improve the contact rate / strikeout rate to get to Dee, but close.
|
| 12:46 |
ROS 2B Rank and why: Chase Utley, Brandon Crawford, Luis Valbuena, Addison Russell. |
| 12:46 |
: Crawford Russell …… dunno. Those guys have jobs. Utley has bone on bone knees and dunno about his job. Valbuena is a backup 1b/3b…
|
| 12:47 |
so you’re sayinggg Puig to mets? |
| 12:47 |
: oh man I’d love that. I’d *love* to see Matt Harvey’s quotes in the paper about Yasiel Puig. Makes me giddy just thinking about it. (Oh and yeah Puig is a great player at a position of need)
|
| 12:47 |
Maine is here in NJ, but you have to ask for Lunch usually. All their other stuff is on the shelf but it’s annoying to find the exact beer you’re looking for. Their best shelf beer is A Tiny Beautiful Something, IMO. As for other NJ beers, always try Kane if it’s on tap and you like the style. Their imperial milk porter variants are off the chain. |
| 12:47 |
Who is the Tigers closer in September? |
| 12:47 |
: Bruce Rondon.
|
| 12:47 |
Is Trevor Bauer a robot programmed with the following binary commands: 0 – strikeout; 1 – homerun ? |
| 12:48 |
: Got a whole post coming from him on it tomorrow. He’s very into the science of pitching. I think he’d say it’s about executing his pitches — his movement is a little down on some of his pitches and he doesn’t know why. But his command is better!
|
| 12:48 |
KANE = overrated WWE wrestler |
| 12:48 |
i prefer RED HOT Chili Davis |
| 12:49 |
Can you elaborate on the Mets clubhouse situation? It’s hard to put those things in perspective when traditional media sources keep saying how established veterans make great clubhouse presences. |
| 12:52 |
: I was in there before Uribe, Kelly Johnson, and Cespedes arrived, so maybe it’s better now. But really, the thing that is missing is David Wright. Everyone wants a veteran star position player in their clubhouse because people defer to that player. And — this part may annoy people — but a big part of the job is taking questions. Remember Carlos Delgado? He got annoyed that the media blasted him on not standing for the national anthem, so he stopped talking. The media was forced to talk to Billy Wagner a ton. Billy Wagner often said, guys I didn’t pitch tonight, what do you want? And if the media doesn’t get any quotes, they get in a bad mood, and have to scrounge for quotes, and the tone of the coverage changes. And beyond that, if you walked around the clubhouse with Wright gone and those new guys not in place yet, there wasn’t anyone around. Tumbleweeds. So… that’s why it’s not a big deal in sum. it’s just a workplace, and people have numbskulls at work. But it can be the difference in the coverage of your team, and it can make a tiny bit of difference to a young guy coming up, or to how excited you feel for the game.
|
| 12:53 |
“You need to get to good pitchers early.” Any truth to this? Seems wrong based on time through the order penalties. |
| 12:53 |
: I think it’s mostly about getting on their fastball because their other pitches are so good. If you don’t pounce on their fastball, you’re looking at nasty bendy pitches.
|
| 12:53 |
Thoughts on the Rizzo catch? Good? Great? Best of season? |
| 12:53 |
: Donaldson was pretty awesome too.
|
| 12:54 |
I drafted Iwakuma ahead of DeGromm. |
| 12:54 |
: Can’t blame that one on me.
|

Kuma has a great arsenal and deception, but still low velo and a tendency to give up HRs. How many will he give up when he moves to a park that doesn’t suppress HRs that much? |
| 12:54 |
: Yes this is an issue too. Hangs sliders and his velocity is bad. But this year is too much. Maybe 1.2 per game in another park.
|
| 12:54 |
River Horse from Lambertville NJ is pretty decent. |
| 12:54 |
Forgotten Boardwalk in South Jersey is new, and making pretty good stuff too. |
| 12:54 |
Pederson. Why-What-When… I understand regression but this dropoff!! WTH man! Any feels on the subject? |
| 12:55 |
: He’s said that he’s dominated based on physical tools and now he’s having to adjust. I have confidence long term, but he was always an OBP play for me.
|
| 12:55 |
Went to Maine Brewery Festival last month in Portland. Maine Brew Co I knew and love, but discovered Bissell Brothers and Foundation. Really good stuff they’re doing up there. |
| 12:55 |
: Keep hearing about Bissell!
|
| 12:56 |
Based on your answer for trusting Iwakuma, what should I look for in Joc to think that he’s adjusting? |
| 12:56 |
: I’d like to see his zone swing rate go up (it’s below average) without his reach rate going up.
|
| 12:56 |
Eno! I just wanted to thank you for beergraphs! I recently took a business trip to Omaha and used your rankings to find Infusion Brewing. It seems we’re in the golden age of session IPAs right now, with Easy Jack, Pinner, and Rudie seeing near nationwide distribution. What’s your favorite of the genre |
| 12:56 |
: Easy Jack, but if you give me AleSmith X, (APA), I’ll take that.
|
| 12:57 |
Best *non* barrel-aged imperial stout. Do you take Prairie Bomb!, or do you take the field? |
| 12:57 |
: BOMB
|
| 12:57 |
Puig at $24 for Josh Bell ($4) and Moncanda ($8) in an Ottoneu league. Disregarding the needs/make up of either team, Which side wins? |
| 12:57 |
: Puig. Moncada might be $14 before he makes an impact and Bell is a shot in the dark. Puig not overpriced at that price yet.
|
| 12:57 |
I’ll be pimpin Other Half till I die, so I’d say the best IPA in NJ is that Green Diamonds you brought back over the bridge from Brooklyn. |
| 12:58 |
I’ve been giving Peraza the Todd Zola treatment, keeping him stashed waiting for him to come up and be Dee Gordon lite. He’s up, he tripled, he’s got a little window. How useful is he likely to be the rest of the way? I haven’t seen any timetable for Howie. |
| 12:58 |
: I think Enrique Hernandez (not going to spell it the other way until I get a handle on that accent) is going to get more PT right now, until we have a better prognosis on Kendrick. If kendrick out for good, then maybe.
|
| 12:58 |
Ode to Eno is finally bottled and ready. early returns on the peach mango mashup being added are strong to quite strong. |
| 12:58 |
: YESSSS
|
| 12:59 |
We keep taking about the future of Sano. What about me??! |
| 12:59 |
: The difference between 30% strikeout rate and 40%….
|
| 12:59 |
Hughes to the DL and still no Berrios…….. |
| 12:59 |
: And, in related news, Twins’ playoff chances down to 2%.
|
| 12:59 |
I should also note that I picked up Chase Anderson in early April and he was a life preserver for my staff while Iwakuma and others were hurt and sucking. Hat tip to Eno. |
| 1:00 |
: And then worth throwing back until he’s on the road again.
|
| 1:00 |
Do you think Carlos Gonzalez gets traded in the offseason? |
| 1:00 |
: Yes but the more interesting version of that question is would you trade for him with those home road splits? And will he be more healthy when he lands in lower altitude?
|
| 1:00 |
But you were high on Kang and he is doing high things! |
| 1:01 |
: Just explaining why that might have been. Like, I’d like to see what Yoenis Cespedes would do in Korea right now. He might not have done much better than Kang did, because Kang was Nuts.
|
| 1:01 |
work trip to chicago coming up. people, tell me what breweries or beers / bars I should be hitting up. |
| 1:02 |
: Map room. Goose Island brew pub. Find some Pipeworks using BeerMenus. Half Acre.
|
| 1:02 |
Everyday that's not Thursday |
| 1:02 |
: creepy!
|
| 1:02 |
What are your expectations for Springer when he returns in a few weeks? Worried that wrist injury renders him ineffectual? |
| 1:02 |
: Yes him and Stanton have bad injuries for power.
|
| 1:02 |
What is a meek mill? |
| 1:02 |
: Helps you grind meeks onto your eggs.
|
| 1:02 |
|
| 1:02 |
Have you ever gotten anything out of Posey when talking to him? |
| 1:03 |
: Actually the last time I talked to him, about commandfx and command in general, was the best, and I got maybe five minutes.
|
| 1:03 |
What saber player stat can I use to add up from players on different teams to predict team wins if they were part of a team? |
| 1:03 |
: We use WAR to inform our projections.
|
| 1:03 |
Chase Anderson, back from the DL. Will he be similar to his early season goodness down the stretch? |
| 1:03 |
: I’d be careful about using him at home.
|
| 1:03 |
Would Beergraphs consider retiring beers from the leaderboards list? Maybe create a search function that allows you to look for them when you need them? Knowing that the 2013 version of a beer is better than the one I am holding makes me think twice about grabbing it. I’m thinking Grapefruit Sculpin- which is still great- or all the Stone “Drink By” beers which can clutter searches. |
| 1:04 |
: Hey! Dude! Check it out. http://www.beergraphs.com/b… We’re working on it!
|
| 1:04 |
I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is….. Machi or B. Rondon? |
| 1:04 |
: rondon
|
| 1:04 |
How much do you like Nick Tropeano? Both as an individual and as a pitcher. See him getting a rotation spot next season? |
| 1:06 |
: I like him. The splitter is decent. How much of a chance will he get? Good home park. Only thing I wonder is why he can’t change the whiffs into strikeouts. But he is in the minor leagues, so, I’m on board for cheap.
|
| 1:06 |
Syndergaard look more like Cumberbatch than Thor. Yeah. |
| 1:06 |
Foundation also a good Portland ME brewery! |
| 1:06 |
|
| 1:06 |
: angry lude
|
| 1:09 |
:
|
| 1:09 |
é (alt 0233) |
| 1:09 |
: Very important
|
| 1:09 |
Hey Eno can you tell me what you wrote in that article about the road effect of Coors field? I don’t have ESPN+. |
| 1:10 |
: It’s on FG+ too. The Rox position players have a fastball mentality at home (they look fastball and swing a ton more) and I think it makes them impatient on the road (and worse).
|
| 1:10 |
chi-revolution, peace, half acre all solid choices |
| 1:10 |
: Oh yeah go to Peace Pizza
|
| 1:10 |
Wanna make out? |
| 1:10 |
: maybe
|
| 1:10 |
grapefruit sculpin more like gross |
| 1:10 |
: shandy
|
| 1:11 |
Hey Kiley, Understanding that floor and ceiling have to be weighted according to their relative stickiness, giving special consideration to each teams window (tinted or clear). And, playing that off of the understanding that when it comes to Rap music, the only thing that matters is how hard you can throw your left hand (I know not a perfect analogy)… Is there any reason that Fernando Tatis cant have a 50FV, while the more hyped Fester Ohnowehere flounders in low A forever. |
| 1:11 |
: you get him you get me I get it. But I have an answer: he needs to work on (yeast) pitch recognition
|
| 1:12 |
It’s weird how hard I root for things like Casilla to blow a save. Not because I want the Gigantes to lose, I just have Romo stashed. |
| 1:12 |
: Fantasy Baseball!
|
| 1:12 |
Would a Royals like bullpen transformation benefit any team more than the Rockies? I feel like that style could go a long way at Coors. |
| 1:12 |
: Yes, I like this, I wonder if maybe with a six man rotation too.
|
| 1:12 |
NO ONE ON BASE. CUETO CANNOT BALK |
| 1:12 |
Odds that Jose Reyes gets traded in he offseason? Guess at a return? |
| 1:13 |
: 70%. Okay if they swallow some money.
|
| 1:14 |
The Mariners said they were going to give Montero a ton of at bats, but I still see a bunch of Lomo strikeouts. What’s their plan with Jesus? |
| 1:14 |
: Problem is, he’s a righty I guess. Maybe as they fall out of it further…
|
| 1:14 |
angry lude for an angry dude |
| 1:14 |
you’re trapped in a room with a coconut |
| 1:14 |
Do you think Grady Sizemore is returning to a useful player? |
| 1:15 |
: Want to see what happens with Des Jennings back.
|
| 1:15 |
This one time, I heard the word ‘material’ in a way that made me think of Material Girl, and then I started thinking about Madonna’s Super Bowl performance, and how I enjoyed it at the time, but really, the highlights were Nicki Minaj and MIA, and then I was like ‘why am I thinking about this?’ |
| 1:15 |
: this happens to me
|
| 1:15 |
Saw in your chat last week that porters taste better when drank at a warmer temp than other beers. Should I just… take the bottle out of the fridge for a bit before opening, or is there a more exact science if I want to do it right? |
| 1:15 |
: Yes that works. I’d also do that (and open the bottle) for Almanac sours.
|
| 1:15 |
What the heck are ludes |
| 1:15 |
: Interludes. Where we get weird.
|
| 1:15 |
Is Tanaka an ace who is struggling to pitch through an injury or is this just who he really is? |
| 1:16 |
: He’s really good and I’m not going to give him a bad homer rate just yet because he has a better fastball than guys like Shoemaker et al, the other k-bb wunderkinds.
|
| 1:16 |
Careful Eno, that’s not necessarily Natalie Portman. |
| 1:16 |
: See that’s why maybe. Kissing someone with a beard sucks.
|
| 1:16 |
I mean it probably is, but you never know. |
| 1:16 |
: Doubt it.
|
| 1:16 |
Like in that movie where it was the other guy all along. |
| 1:16 |
: the one about catfish hunter
|
| 1:17 |
Osuna hasn’t been striking out guys at an elite rate, but his stuff should be able to get him to that level soon, right? Do you see him/prefer him as a starter long term? |
| 1:17 |
: Reliever now. I think more Ks coming.
|
| 1:17 |
Do you like what you’re seeing in Brandon Belt? |
| 1:18 |
: I think he can pull and push the ball now, and is finally able to do both at the same time. Hard to see that in the numbers, but he’s hitting the ball hard to all fields, so yes I do like it. Wish he could make more contact though.
|
| 1:18 |
You know where Carlos Gonzalez would look good? Toronto. They could really use a left handed power hitter in that lineup. |
| 1:18 |
: oh man what a lineup that would be
|
| 1:18 |
I have nightmares of Carter Capps jumping at me with a switchblade |
| 1:18 |
Say you are a contemporary GM, and you have a choice of first basemen. Do you take Adam Lind or something (an average modern 1b), or do you take 1 of Hornsby Ruth Foxx Cobb and co? Same money. |
| 1:18 |
: Like you’re going to dig them up?
|
| 1:19 |
Sorry for what I said about your hair that one time. Am I gooder at baseball than you once thought? What’s my 2016 season gonna look like? |
| 1:19 |
: No, I thought he could do this. Some BABIP luck probably, but I thought he could .300/20 at least once. Always aid he would steal less.
|
| 1:19 |
if you pour like a 1/3 of the beer into a glass that part will warm more quickly and then when that’s a bit warmer and you finish it you pour the rest in your glass and it’s the perfect temperature |
| 1:19 |
Enocturnal emission. |
| 1:19 |
H2H playoffs are dark and full of terror. |
| 1:19 |
: Now THAT is a lude.
|
| 1:20 |
So apparently Eddie Butler doesn’t believe in giving up singles. This is worse than it sounds. |
| 1:20 |
: I’m watching him for a new pitch / mix. Until then, pass.
|
| 1:20 |
are you going to see Straight Outta Compton? |
| 1:20 |
: f yes
|
| 1:20 |
Eno-san let’s say you had to have 2 stolen bases by Sunday night to save your life. Who get’s those out of Gose, Alexei or Bourn? |
| 1:20 |
: Gose?
|
| 1:20 |
: As long as the handedness lines up well.
|
| 1:21 |
Should Jesse Chavez have opted out of today’s start? |
| 1:21 |
Toronto already has a lefty power hitter. Goins just hit a 3-run HR |
| 1:21 |
: asked and answered
|
| 1:21 |
Wait, what did Hosmer say about your hair? |
| 1:21 |
: “Worst beat writer hair I’ve ever seen.”
|
| 1:21 |
: But I’m not a beat so
|
| 1:21 |
Eno is going to head Straight INTO Compton |
| 1:21 |
You buying some Severino shares? |
| 1:21 |
: YES
|
| 1:22 |
the best part about the rizzo catch is how certain he was in his footing, like oh yea ill just step on that chair there and turn around and throw it back into play |
| 1:22 |
I can’t overstate how much I love Aaron Sanchez as a shutdown reliever. |
| 1:22 |
|
| 1:22 |
What do the Blue Jays do next year when their pitching turns back into a pumpkin? |
| 1:22 |
: Hold on to Stroman for dear life, spend some money maybe on a starter
|
| 1:22 |
I thought about not starting Syndergaard today bc Harvey and deGrom shut out the rockies previous 2 nights, and they have to eventaully score some runs right? Obviously not scientific, but do you ever think like this? (I started him anyway) |
| 1:23 |
: Gambler’s fallacy. They’re just as likely to score runs on that third day as they were on day one or two.
|
| 1:23 |
wait doesnt hosmer have a mohawk mullet combo? |
| 1:23 |
: well yeah but I was a bit rocked and didn’t have the zingers ready. maybe next time.
|
| 1:23 |
The Blue Jays are 100% pure white hot sex right now |
| 1:23 |
Who gets David Price? |
| 1:23 |
: Maybe sex signs him!
|
| 1:24 |
Why wasn’t DeGromm hyped? In his big league debut I remember telling myself, “this kid has some awesome stuff and seems to command it” I said the same thing when I saw Kluber in his 3rd big league start. |
| 1:25 |
: Minor league numbers bad, old for levels because he had TJ, was a college closer, didn’t have the change until Triple-A when Johan taught him, didn’t have the slider until MLB when Warthen taught him, didn’t have the curve until Viola taught him it in Double-A. http://www.fangraphs.com/bl…
|
| 1:25 |
Hosmer the jerkstore called… |
| 1:25 |
you should really overdo it like just put hosmer down so many times everyone feels bad about the situation and he’s like starting to cry and he’s like damn yo i was just making a crack and you’re like ripping into him his dog needs a bath his handsoap scent is out of date and he’s just bawling but you don’t let up |
| 1:25 |
Which team has the nicest clubhouse? |
| 1:26 |
: Padres is pretty awesome actually, Cash takes all questions and talks to everyone, and cares about everyone. Giants is like the most chill professional place ever, but not a ton of interaction between groups. Athletics are exuberant and loud and fun and young.
|
| 1:26 |
HEY ENO HOW ABOUT A SANDWICH – A SANDWICH WHERE I PUNCH YOU IN THE HEAD |
| 1:27 |
: hey I just don’t like your change
|
| 1:27 |
Do we have a better comp for Aaron Judge than Stanton? When was the last 6’7 OFer with an advanced approach and feel for hitting, with massive raw power and arm strength? Winfield? |
| 1:27 |
: Except Judge not showing that massive power yet. Travis Snider decently big, never really capitalized.
|
| 1:28 |
Would you rather be able to hit the ball like Gallo or throw the ball like Rondon? Which >100mph would you, a regular person that writes about beer and the correct way to hold balls, would you choose? |
| 1:28 |
: The guy that can throw it because I’d be working on the secondary pitches so hard. Might blow out though. Sergio Romo said if I could throw 95, I’d be Adam Ottavino and my arm would be done.
|
| 1:28 |
DeGrom is the American dream |
| 1:28 |
Banh Mi or French Dip? |
| 1:29 |
: Banh MI makes you feel better about yourself.
|
| 1:29 |
we get paid to put barrels on balls man, what the f— is this guy talking about, walk rates, ground-ball rates, barrels dude, barrels, what’s up with this hair, must be because he’s Greek, yeah or blind, these are some stupid questions, man, I’ve never heard anything like this, dude needs to shut up, bothering us about ground-ball rates man, barrels, dude, barrels, nut sacks more like. |
| 1:29 |
: Uh yeah that’s it.
|
| 1:29 |
Travis Snider is 6′ tall wtf are you doing comparing him to Aaron Judge? WTF |
| 1:29 |
: Just saying, I would not compare Judge to Stanton either. No way. Not yet. career ISO under .200 in MiLB.
|
| 1:30 |
When you say Cashner cares about everyone, is that his teammates or members of the media? |
| 1:30 |
: He’s a good human being, to everyone I’ve seen him interact with.
|
| 1:30 |
: Oh man I gotta go! kids are home, things are going nuts out there I hear.
|
| 1:30 |
: thanks for chatting (mostly) dudes with ludes!
|
| 1:31 |
KIDS SUK |
| 1:31 |
ciao eno |
| 1:31 |
Re: Hill Farmstead – went two weeks ago, did exactly that. Had a Susan, thought it was meh, gave it four stars cause HF and I didn’t want to look like that guy who was like, Trillium IPAs are better (but they are) |
| 1:31 |
You know, Eno. And I know. And I now know that you know. |
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
Thanks Eno!
