Internships are a key way for us to find future full-time members of our department, with many of our senior department members beginning as interns. While a pathway to a full-time position is not assured, many of our former interns have found full-time opportunities with the Nationals or other MLB clubs. While internships ideally span from Opening Day to November 1st, we’re open to candidates that may not be available for this entire period.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Player Development Video and Information Trainee will provide a service to an Atlanta Braves affiliate through charting live baseball games and providing video and information to Braves coaches, coordinators, and front office personnel. This role manages all aspects of the assigned affiliate’s video, technology, and advance scouting operation and aims to provide an experience that prepares the ideal candidate for a future role in the baseball industry.

RESPONSIBIITIES:

  • Capture video and collect data for each game of the full minor league schedule of an assigned affiliate (home games and team travel to road games, postseason included)
  • Manage a network of cameras set up to collect high-quality video from multiple angles
  • Attach, edit, and upload video following each game daily
  • Assist in the deployment and utilization of all Braves technology equipment at assigned affiliate

Position Overview:
As a Quantitative Analyst (QA) Associate, you help shape The Phillies Baseball Operations strategies by processing, analyzing, and interpreting large and complex data. You do more than just crunch the numbers; you carefully plan the design of your own studies by asking and answering the right questions, while also working collaboratively with other analysts and software engineers on larger projects.

Using analytical rigor, you work with your team as you mine through data and see opportunities for The Phillies to improve. After communicating the results of your studies and experiments to Baseball Operations leadership and executive staff, you collaborate with front office executives, scouts, coaches, and trainers to incorporate your findings into Phillies practices. Identifying the challenge is only half the job; you also work to figure out and implement the solution.

Responsibilities:

Position Overview:
The work of a Software Engineer (SWE) Associate at The Phillies extends well beyond merely coding. As a SWE you contribute fresh ideas in a variety of areas, including information retrieval, networking and data storage, security, machine learning, natural language processing, UI design and mobile to shape the evolution of The Phillies baseball analytics systems.

ROLE

Minor League Affiliate Fellowship (Full-Time)

Summary of Responsibilities:
St. Louis Cardinals are currently seeking candidates for this position to be located at each of our domestic minor league affiliates and our Dominican Republic Academy. The Minor League Affiliate Fellow will handle all video and technology at these locations to assist the minor league coaching staff, including the manager, hitting coach, and pitching coach. The data collected from video and technology will be utilized to provide feedback to players for development.

Pre-game, this position will manage the distribution process, setup and utilization of all baseball & sport science technology. During the game, this position will handle technology resources for the minor league coaches from the dugout. Post-game this position will ensure all data and video collected from the day is available for reporting & analysis; create reports for players and coaches as required. This position will work directly with the Video & Technology Team and reports to the relevant minor league manager for day-to-day responsibilities at the affiliate.

The position is a seasonal job for the 2024 season only, but may lead to full-time employment in Player Development, Scouting, or elsewhere within Baseball Operations.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Manage baseball & sport science technology and video capture at the affiliate (e.g. TrackMan, Blast Motion, Edgertronic Camera, Polar, Whoop, etc.).
  • During the game, depending on staff needs:
    • Manage in-game capture of technology and video from the dugout
    • Quality assurance of the video and data collected for analyses
  • Communicate any implementation issues to Technology Specialist / Technology Integration Coordinator that are not remediated through initial troubleshooting
  • Attend Spring Training and travel with assigned minor league team on the road throughout the season

Education & Experience Required:

  • Proven ability to use and troubleshoot baseball or sport science technology (like pairing portable TrackMan to an Edgertronic camera, syncing wearable technology to a mobile device, etc.)
  • Familiar with or a demonstrated willingness to learn technology such as Blast Motion, TrackMan, and video integration

Baseball Technology Fellow

Primary Purpose
The Cleveland Guardians Fellowship program is designed to accelerate the pace of development and impact for people interested in working for our organization. Fellowship roles are focused on solving complex challenges, which involve developing new approaches, tools, and techniques to meaningfully drive the organization forward. Fellows will be exposed to work across multiple departments and have access to and be encouraged to use a suite of internal, proprietary resources.

We are seeking Fellows to join our Baseball Technology department. Each Fellow will work full-time with one of our minor league affiliates and report to the Baseball Technology, Player Development, and Baseball Operations departments. Fellows will be expected to manage the collection of multiple data streams and operate as a resource for both coaches and players. This position will include travel to away games.

The ideal candidate will be curious, creative, open-minded, and excited to work in a collaborative environment. The candidate will be able to clearly communicate with others, build strong relationships, and have the ability to present complex topics to a wide range of audiences. They will take the initiative to perform research in the areas of their choosing that advance the Guardians’ player development procedures and philosophies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Baseball Technology:

  • Operate bat/ball tracking technology and other sports science technology.
  • Manage pre-game, in-game, and post-game video process.
  • Manage the corresponding data and video collection process and assist with interpretation & distribution.
  • Assist the Information Systems team with Baseball Technology-related troubleshooting and support.

Coaching Staff Support:

  • Support Minor League field staff with Advance Scouting Process.
  • Assist affiliate staff with various administrative tasks (i.e. daily scheduling, team travel).
  • Assist Minor League field staff with pre-game activities.

Baseball Development and Analysis:

  • Collaborate with coaching staff, Player Development, and Baseball Operations to monitor player goals and player progress.
  • Perform ad hoc research and analysis, both at the request of staff and independently.
  • Communicate findings and insights to Minor League Coaches, Players, and Player Development and Baseball Operations Departments.

Education & Experience Requirements and Preference

  • Demonstrated passion for at least one: baseball technology, scouting, baseball analytics, sports science, hitting or pitching analysis and/or biomechanics, strength and conditioning, motor learning, or other baseball/softball-related field.
