Intern – Baseball Research & Development (paid, multiple positions available)

Summary  Will work with the Baseball R&D, Baseball Systems Departments, and the entire Baseball Operations Department to deliver research and tools to improve decision making. The position requires a person who has intellectual curiosity, is a self-starter and can communicate technical and analytical concepts effectively to non-technical people. Intern – Minor League Technology Operations (paid, multiple positions available)

Summary  Assist members of the baseball operations staff with all technology needs at Brewers minor league affiliates. This internship will run from early March through the end of September with the possibility of work into October.

  • Troubleshoot the team Hawkeye cameras when instructed by coordinator, tech ops..
  • Log home game data via Hawkeye’s BSK software.

  • Complete special projects as assigned from Coordinator – Tech Operations and front office.
  • Complete pro scouting reports on assigned players.

  • Communicate with Coordinator – Technology Operations regarding any technology troubleshooting issues.
  • Partner with coaches to produce advance scouting reports that clearly and accurately report data on the upcoming opponents. Present this data to players when necessary.
  • Operate approved technology including, but not limited to, Uplift, Blast, Trackman, Rapsodo, and HitTrax when necessary to track player on field work prior to games
  • Implement organizational technology best practices and educate coaches and players on the process and benefits of technology use.

Player Development Affiliate Video Manager

Description:
The Affiliate Video Manager handles all video and travel needs for assigned affiliate during the regular season.

Responsibilities:

  • Chart all games for assigned affiliate using BATS software. 
  • Assist with Major League and Minor League video and data collection during Spring Training.

Minor League Dietitian

Description:
The New York Yankees MiLB Dietitian will assist the MiLB Nutrition Coordinator in optimizing nutrition support for all athletes in the New York Yankees organization. This role will serve to help with affiliate catering, nutrition education, and ensuring department and organizational standards are met.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of the nutritional program
  • Assist in the development of personalized nutrition programs when needed

Description:
The Associate, Professional Scouting position is a rigorous 12-month program geared to prepare entry level candidates for a career within the Baseball Operations & Pro Scouting fields. This position is office-based at Yankee Stadium and works closely with all members of the Yankees front office, particularly Pro Scouting leadership and scouts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Aid the Director and Assistant Director, Professional Scouting in the execution of many operational and administrative duties within the Professional Scouting department.
  • Assist in ranking and composing write-ups of prospects from around professional baseball.
  • Review and recommend available players to Front Office personnel for possible acquisition.
  • Conduct research regarding Professional Scouting topics.
  • Identify and recommend players to pro scouts who should be evaluated in person.

The Washington Nationals Baseball R&D group is responsible for deriving insights from our baseball datasets and building proprietary metrics and data products which are used to inform baseball decision making throughout our organization.

The Washington Nationals are seeking a Player Development Analyst to join our Baseball Research & Development team. The Player Development Analyst will help summarize our baseball datasets to produce actionable insights, evaluate our player’s strengths and weaknesses, build player plans, and communicate regularly with Player Development staff. Role:
The Chicago Cubs are seeking analysts to join the Baseball Analytics group in the Baseball Operations’ Research and Development team. This role will focus on constructing models that estimate skills, likelihoods, and contexts for various baseball phenomena. The analyst will work closely with the entirety of the R&D department to develop methods to process data, improve the effective understanding and application of data, and disseminate analytic insights throughout the organization. Analysts may focus their efforts towards collaborating with the Advanced Scouting, Amateur Scouting, International Scouting, Professional Scouting, Baseball Sciences, or Player Development groups, as strengths dictate.

Responsibilities:

  • Create data modeling pipelines that maintain up-to-date predictions of a variety of baseball metrics
  • Analyze collected data leveraging in-house models and insights
  • Research, develop, and test methods and models for the purpose of player assessment, development, and acquisition, as well as the optimization of in-game strategy
  • Effectively present analyses using written reports and data visualization methods to communicate relevant findings

This role will focus on improving our understanding of player performance through the analysis of various data sources and technologies, including motion capture, force plates, wearable sensors, and S&C assessments. The analyst will be responsible for performing quantitative research on existing data while also helping the organization identify novel technologies or initiatives that could lead to further insight. The ideal candidate will possess strong quantitative skills, the ability to think critically and creativity, domain-specific knowledge/experience, and the ability to communicate effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform quantitative research to better understand and quantify player performance
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and assessments
  • Work with the Baseball Analytics group to integrate Baseball Science research into player valuation models
  • Communicate research insights to various departments and stakeholders—including coaches, scouts, trainers, and S&C staff
