Job Summary:
The Detroit Tigers are currently seeking a Director, Software Engineering. This role will be responsible for the development and maintenance of software projects within Baseball Operations. This position will report to the Vice President, Assistant General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general development and maintenance tasks for the upkeep of internally developed software products.
  • Use modern software techniques and best practices in all parts of the software life cycle.
  • Supervise, provide feedback, and guide project work conducted by external consultants.
  • Manage the integration of baseball analysis into our proprietary tools and applications.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, similar technical field of study, or equivalent real-time experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in developing in a Web-based object-oriented product environment.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of programming experience in and strong knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Java and Developing Java Web-based Applications
    • JavaScript and CSS along with related front-end technologies.
    • Full Stack Development experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in working with medium-to-large-scale relational databases.
  • Expert level SQL Skills – Microsoft SQL Server experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work in all phases of the product lifecycle, from requirements gathering to design, testing, and implementation.
  • Experience deploying and managing web applications in the cloud, Azure preferred.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and techniques as necessary.

Summary:

Baseball Systems Developer

Description:
The Los Angeles Angels are seeking a Developer to join the Baseball Operations’ Baseball Systems Development team. This position will focus on the development and maintenance of the Angels’ internal baseball information system and all of the data flows that support it.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and maintain the front end of the Angels’ internal baseball information system
  • Develop and maintain ETL processes for loading data from multiple sources using a variety of formats (APIs, JSON, XML, CSVs, etc.)
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve data quality issues
  • Collaborate with the IT department to address needs related to Baseball Systems department
  • Remain up-to-date with respect to industry best practices and new technologies and how they relate to the club’s needs

Cleveland Guardians Baseball Technology Fellowship

Primary Purpose:
The Cleveland Guardians Fellowship program is designed to accelerate the pace of development and impact for people interested in working for our organization. Fellowship roles are focused on solving complex challenges, which involve developing new approaches, tools, and techniques to meaningfully drive the organization forward. Fellows will be exposed to work across multiple departments and have access to and be encouraged to use a suite of internal, proprietary resources.

We are seeking Fellows to join our Baseball Technology department. Each Fellow will work full-time with one of our minor league affiliates and report to the Baseball Technology, Player Development, and Baseball Operations departments. Fellows will be expected to manage the collection of multiple data streams and operate as a resource for both coaches and players. This position will include travel to away games.

The ideal candidate will be curious, creative, open-minded, and excited to work in a collaborative environment. The candidate will be able to clearly communicate with others, build strong relationships, and have the ability to present complex topics to a wide range of audiences. They will take the initiative to perform research in the areas of their choosing that advances the Guardians’ player development procedures and philosophies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Baseball Technology:

  • Operate bat/ball tracking technology and other sports science technology.
  • Manage pre-game, in-game, and post-game video process.
  • Manage the corresponding data and video collection process and assist with interpretation & distribution.
  • Assist the Information Systems team with Baseball Technology related troubleshooting and support.

Coaching Staff Support:

  • Coordinate Advance Scouting Process with Minor League field staff.
  • Assist affiliate staff with various administrative tasks (i.e. daily scheduling, team travel).
  • Assist Minor League field staff with pre-game activities.

Baseball Development and Analysis:

  • Collaborate with coaching staff, Player Development, and Baseball Operations to monitor player goals and player progress.
  • Perform ad hoc research and analysis, both at the request of staff and independently.
  • Communicate findings and insights to Minor League Coaches, Players, and Player Development and Baseball Operations Departments.

Trainee, Research & Development

Description:
The R&D Analyst Trainee position will assist Baseball Operations decision-making through the analysis and research of baseball information. The day-to-day responsibilities of this position will revolve around using data analysis to provide insight into player evaluation, performance projection, roster construction, and all other facets of baseball operations decision making, with an emphasis on different areas of baseball operations depending on the baseball calendar and needs of the department. Ideal candidates will have a strong, demonstrated ability to answer wide-ranging research questions using data-driven methods. The position will report to Assistant General Manager, Research and Development.

Note: Applicants for full-time, full-season trainee, and summer intern (May-August) will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced statistical analysis on large datasets in order to assist in the decision making of the Baseball Operations department

Job Description:
An Atlanta Braves baseball operations fellowship set to provide around-the-horn opportunities in administration, operations, player development and scouting.

Position description includes but is not limited to:

  • Support the Director, Baseball Administration with necessary tasks throughout the year including, but not limited to:
    • Execution of contracts & compliance requests
    • Familiarity with the major League roster and associated transactions

Summary:
The Chicago White Sox are seeking multiple seasonal Player Development Affiliate Interns. This entry level opportunity will provide individuals with a wide range of experiences across professional baseball. These positions will primarily support Minor League coaching staffs at affiliate locations throughout the Minor League season. Program Details:

Baseball Analytics Trainee

Location: Cincinnati, OH

Job Purpose:
Assist Baseball Operations decision-making through the analysis of various sources of baseball information. The specific day-to-day responsibilities of this position will vary depending on current needs from our stakeholders along with the baseball calendar but will revolve around analyzing various sources of baseball data.

Experience, Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree or pursuit of degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field that emphasizes technical and analytical problem-solving skills such as statistics, mathematics, engineering, and/or economics preferred.
  • Understanding of advanced statistical techniques is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with Database querying (e.g., SQL) and statistical software (e.g., R, Python) is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to learn other programming languages as needed.
