OUR STORY
THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League. HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:
The Chicago Cubs’ Baseball Operations, Pro Acquisitions, and Player Development departments are seeking to potentially fill positions in the preidentified areas below. Baseball Operations Fellow (Location: Chicago, IL)
Responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with other members of Major League Operations, providing daily support to various Baseball Operations functions

  • Prepare and maintain essential resources and materials for operation, evaluation, and decision making within the front office

  • Perform research and analysis in support of Major League Operations including salary arbitration, contracts, free agency, roster transactions and management, and rules compliance

  • Work alongside the Amateur Scouting and Pro Acquisitions departments in advance of the Rule 4 Draft, Trade Deadline, and other key transaction periods

  • Carry out gameday duties as assigned by the Advance Scouting and Research & Development departments

  • Conduct ad-hoc research and projects as assigned

Pro Acquisitions Fellow (Location: Chicago, IL)
Responsibilities:

  • Follow and track the direction and strategies of certain Major League teams and identify potentially available players

  • Produce in-depth player assessments on professional players, utilizing video and data

  • Participate in the implementation and continuous improvement of acquisition processes, focusing on optimizing workflows, evaluation methods, decision support, and staff development

  • Use analytical tools to identify and prioritize players for further analysis.

  • Collaborate with Baseball Analytics, Baseball Sciences, and Baseball Systems to develop, refine, and implement player evaluation and acquisition tools

  • Conduct research as assigned by leadership, providing quality assurance and control feedback and identifying areas for further exploration and development

  • Collaborate with predictive modeling teams and incorporate analytical insights into decision-making processes

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience

Player Development Fellow (Location: Mesa, AZ)
Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Player Development Department with a range of administrative tasks, including data collection, data entry, and various other responsibilities to support team operations

  • Facilitate the onboarding process for newly acquired players, including those from the Rule 4 Draft, trades, international signings, and minor league free agency

  • Collaborate with the Cubs’ Minor League Equipment staff to develop and maintain an effective inventory system and handle logistics needs

  • Support player services by managing housing arrangements, ensuring nutritional needs are met, and addressing additional player welfare needs

  • Ad hoc Player Development projects and research as assigned by Director, Player Development

  • Aid in the implementation of Cubs’ life skills programs, which may include organizing trips to the bank, assisting with social services, and coordinating doctor’s appointments

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), familiarity with Google suite

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays, in accordance with the baseball calendar

Position Title & Description
Pitcher Timings Intern: Part-time candidates filling this position will gain valuable experience with technologies and processes, increasing their qualifications to work in baseball and the broader sports industry. You will be expected to watch and break-down multiple aspects of a pitchers’ delivery using Inside Edge technology to provide valuable data to Major League clubs. This is a part-time position where a large team of interns will be tasked to work roughly 90 minute shifts (varies game by game) about 5 days per week. This is an ideal position for college students or candidates looking to dip their toe into the sports world.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Participate in a training program before the 2025 season begins
  • Use Inside Edge software to enter and crosscheck timings data
  • Review video replay ensuring integrity of charted data

Location
Remote work available in the following states: MN, MO, NC, NV, TX, VA, WI, OH

Wages and term of employment

Summary:
The New York Mets are seeking a Director, Baseball Systems to lead the product engineering team responsible for developing software for Baseball Operations. The Director, Baseball Systems will work closely with stakeholders across Baseball Operations, develop a deep understanding of the needs of a diverse set of stakeholders (e.g., players, scouts, field staff, front office personnel), and oversee the execution of a software development roadmap to enable better decision making, improve workflows, and present video, data, and other information in an intuitive format for users across Baseball Operations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partner with senior leadership to shape the product roadmap for the Baseball Systems Department and own its execution

  • Lead and manage a product engineering team that possesses capabilities required to deliver best-in-class software applications for Baseball Operations

  • Understand product needs of a diverse set of end users and drive the Baseball Systems team to nimbly and efficiently execute against priorities

  • Ensure a maintainable codebase and software applications are both secure and reliable 

  • Partner with Data Engineering and Baseball Technology & Video teams to ensure data and video capture and delivery meets the needs of end users

  • Partner with Performance Technology team on the development of software to serve sports science, biomechanics, and athlete management use cases

  • Take on engineering work as bandwidth allows

  • Manage the department’s budget and make investment recommendations to senior leadership

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science or a related field

  • 8+ years relevant professional experience, including experience managing a technical team

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Data Analysis: Design, build, test, and deploy statistical and machine learning models to support all facets of baseball operations, including scouting, player development, and the major league team. Analyze large and complex data on player performance, game statistics, and team metrics. Utilize statistical methods and machine learning techniques to uncover trends and patterns.

  • Collaboration: Develop a deep understanding of the existing body of the R&D team’s research, code base, and database. Take on some responsibility for improving and maintaining existing projects. Perform ad hoc analyses on questions that come to Baseball R&D from across the organization.
  • Data Management: Ensure accurate and efficient data collection, storage, and management. Maintain data integrity and address any data quality issues.
  • Presentation: Prepare and deliver presentations to summarize findings and recommendations. Tailor presentations to different audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. Certification programs are not considered equivalent.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data science, statistical analysis, or a related role, preferably within a sports or performance environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and modeling.

WORKING CONDITIONS/WORK SCHEDULE:

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Annual salary range of $125,000 – $145,000. This is a regular status, full-time position.

Position Summary:

The Blue Jays are seeking a Player Valuation Analyst to join our Research team and support our player evaluation processes in collaboration with our Professional and/or Amateur Scouting department. Role Summaries

Player Development Technology
This role is ideal for candidates interested in working closely with coaches and players through embedding themselves with teams at the Blue Jays’ development complexes or affiliates. Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the point person for video, technology, and data resources
  • Deploying and operating technology for recording data during both practice and game settings
  • Organizing, cataloging, distributing, and reviewing video and data/advance resources for affiliate staff and other PD personnel
  • Helping to track player goals and progress over the course of the season and collaborating across departments (Minor League Operations, Nutrition, High Performance) to support projects and processes
  • Assisting with on-field activities (batting practice, fungos, catching pens) and day-to-day logistical needs of the team as needed

Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required; experience with video editing software and baseball-related data capture systems is beneficial. Spanish proficiency is also helpful and may be required in some cases.

Operations (Scouting, Baseball Operations, Player Development)
Candidates with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail will support the logistical and administrative functions of the scouting, player development, or baseball operations departments. Duties may include:

  • Organizing, entering, and maintaining data and/or video resources
  • Supporting departmental administrative tasks (expense reports, compiling statistics and rosters, meeting logistics, etc.) and responding to ad-hoc logistical or organizational needs
  • Contributing to player evaluation processes through review of video and data
  • In the Player Development department, additional duties may include translating documents to/from English and Spanish, and assisting with integration of technology into on-field work

Microsoft Office (especially Excel) proficiency is crucial; knowledge of baseball rules and regulations is also a strong asset. Spanish proficiency will be beneficial (required in some cases). Proficiency with data management and analysis tools like SQL, R, Python are also beneficial but not required.

Advance Scouting
This role involves supporting the Major League team with game-by-game and series-by-series preparation, using strong baseball knowledge to assist with:

  • Collecting and organizing statistics for scouting reports, identifying patterns in player performance and team tendencies
  • Editing and assembling video clips/visual presentations relevant to upcoming matchups
  • Conducting ad-hoc research and analysis on players or the game of baseball in general
  • Watching video to provide written evaluations and insights to coaching staff, helping to shape game strategies
  • Supporting on-field video and data collection and operating game-prep technology 

Candidates with excellent knowledge of baseball rules and strategy and strong time management and organizational skills will excel here. Proficiency in video editing software and tools like R, Shiny, or similar platforms is helpful but not required.

Primary Purpose

The Cleveland Guardians Fellowship program is designed to accelerate the pace of development and impact for people interested in working for our organization. We are seeking Fellows to join our Baseball Technology department. Each Fellow will work full-time with one of our minor league affiliates (Columbus, Akron, Lake County, Lynchburg, and Arizona Complex) and report to the Baseball Technology, Player Development, and Baseball Operations departments. Fellows will be expected to manage the collection of multiple data streams and operate as a resource for both coaches and players. This position will include travel to away games.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Baseball Technology:

  • Operate bat/ball tracking technology and other sports science technology.
  • Manage pre-game, in-game, and post-game video processes.
  • Manage the corresponding data and video collection process and assist with interpretation & distribution.
  • Assist the Information Systems team with Baseball Technology-related troubleshooting and support.

Coaching Staff Support:

  • Support Minor League field staff with Advance Scouting Process.
  • Assist affiliate staff with various administrative tasks (i.e. daily scheduling, team travel).
  • Assist Minor League field staff with pre-game activities.

Baseball Development and Analysis:

  • Collaborate with coaching staff, Player Development, and Baseball Operations to monitor player goals and player progress.
  • Perform ad hoc research and analysis, both at the request of staff and independently.
  • Communicate findings and insights to Minor League Coaches, Players, and Player Development and Baseball Operations Departments.

Position Overview
Oversee the daily video, sports technology, and advance scouting operations at assigned minor league affiliate. Duties will include, but not be limited to: filming and logging home and road games, as well as assisting in daily instructional film/data review sessions with coaches, players, and staff. In addition, the Video & Technology Associate will be responsible for maintaining all sports technology equipment including setup, logging, and uploading all data each day.

Essential Duties

  • Open and oversee operations of affiliate video room on a daily basis
  • Film and accurately log all home and road games using BATS video system
  • Film and capture data for bullpens, batting practices, and workouts based on requests by Phillies coaches and staff
  • Efficiently set up and run various sports technology equipment, including but not limited to: bat sensors, motion capture tools, and ball flight tracking technology
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and support IP and high speed video cameras, computer networks, and network hard drives
  • Assist with daily data and video review sessions with Phillies coaches and players
