A Leaderboard of Traded Players
Regarding What Has Happened
With the trade deadline having passed, it is now the duty of the public — between now and the end of the baseball season — it’s the duty of the public to pass Spirited Judgment regarding the efficacy of July’s trades. With a view to helping that same public fulfill their very important obligations, the author has produced a custom leaderboard of all the players both (a) who were involved in a trade during this past July who also (b) have some sort of previous major-league experience.

On the Possible Use of Said Leaderboard
It would make some sense to periodically reference this leaderboard — especially the August and September splits part of it — over the next couple of months, with a view towards evaluating the production of players who were traded at the deadline.

Regarding Last Year’s Traded Players, Who Was Best
One finds, among last year’s traded players, that Dodgers infielder Hanley Ramirez was the best player in August (1.1 WAR) and Giants infielder Marco Scutaro was the best player in September (1.2 WAR), while Zack Greinke was also excellent in September (1.0 WAR).

Jhoulys Chacin (127.0 IP, 107 xFIP-, 3.2 WAR) faces Gerrit Cole (55.2 IP, 96 xFIP-, 0.7 WAR). The former, as noted last week by David Cameron, has recorded a historically low home-rate rate on fly balls this season. Even after conceding a home run in his most recent start, Chacin has still has the lowest HR/FB% of all pitchers in the FanGraphs Era (2002-13) at 3.4%. The ZiPS and Steamer systems project Chacin to post home-run rates of 0.75 and 0.92 per nine innings, respectively, for the remainder of the season.
