Meeting of the Corey Kluber Society Today
The Purpose of This Post
The purpose of this post is to announce a meeting — in this case, at 7:05pm ET today (Friday) — of the Corey Kluber Society.
About the Society
The Corey Kluber Society (or, frequently just “the Society”) is composed of individuals all bound by their singular enthusiasm for the works and days of Cleveland right-hander Corey Kluber.
How to Attend a Meeting
To attend a meeting of the Society, one needs merely to anticipate each of Kluber’s pending starts as though it were Christmas in July — or, in the case of the Society’s Jewish members, Chanukkah in July. (Members of other faith traditions will be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.)
On the Agenda
The agenda for today’s meeting (subject to change) is as follows:
1. Welcome, introductions, apologies.
2. High-fives for a while.
3. Report from the Subcommittee on Dirty Dancing.
4. Drink 17 beers, about.
5. Discuss Cleveland teammate Danny Salazar’s debut enthusiastically.
6. More high-fiving (as necessary).
7. Watch Kluber’s start with “mounting pleasure.”
On the Topic of Danny Salazar
The author would be remiss not to mention how Kluber’s teammate and fixture in the present author’s weekly Fringe Five column Danny Salazar made his debut on Thursday afternoon and was excellent, recording a 7:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and conceding just one run against 21 Toronto batters over 6.0 innings (box).
Action Footage: Salazar’s Changeup
The author would continue being totally remiss were he not to embed in this post at least one animated GIF of Danny Salazar negating an opposing batter’s existence by means of his (i.e. Salazar’s) changeup — in this case Jose Reyes’s existence in the first inning:

Here’s footage of that same pitch, except slower and more intimate:

One Other Announcement
Members of the Society might be interested to know that, included within the pages of the Classical Magazine’s most recent issue, are six avant-garde plays composed by the present author and all featuring Cleveland right-hander Corey Kluber.
Today’s MLB.TV Free Game
Colorado at Los Angeles NL | 22:10 ET
Juan Nicasio (81.1 IP, 115 xFIP-, 1.0 WAR) faces Clayton Kershaw (138.1 IP, 84 xFIP-, 3.5 WAR). It might surprise the reader to learned that the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9.5 games out of first place on June 22nd — and perhaps even more games out at some other point — are currently just 1.5 games behind Arizona in the NL West and projected, by the present site’s unassailable methodology, to win that division by season’s end.
Readers’ Preferred Broadcast: Los Angeles NL Television.
Today’s Complete Schedule
Here’s the complete schedule for all of today’s games, with our very proprietary watchability (NERD) scores for each one. Pitching probables and game times aggregated from MLB.com and RotoWire. The average NERD Game Score for today is 5.5.
