Miketron: I know you like DeSclafini, can you remind me again why?

Eno Sarris: Good command of fastball and slider. I used to like the movement of his change but he was telegraphing the pitch by slowing his arm speed. Late last year he was throwing the pitch harder and throwing more curves and finished the season with two straight months of a 16% K-BB%, which is top 15. I wrote about it today on ESPN.

Matt: So Eno…Where does Lazarito sign?

Eno Sarris: Going to guess Braves or Padres.

Miketron: Angels and Indians need OF help. Does Fowler end up in either spot?

Eno Sarris: Whit Sox?

Fork Monster: Eno, love your stuff. How do you feel about Stroman this year? He didn’t have an arm injury, so do you see something like 180 IP, 175 Ks?

Eno Sarris: Fewer Ks. He traded vertical movement (better for whiffs) for horizontal movement (better for grounders) after his injury.

Bork: Since anything fun is blocked through my work firewall I’m going to assume the robot music is the sound of the ventilation system above my head.

Shawn: Any breweries out there that people love, that you just don’t get? Here in CT and people rave about Kent Falls, but just doesn’t do a whole lot for me (and I generally like farmhouse which is there main style)

Eno Sarris: Don’t know if they count, but Anchor Steam, Fat Tire come to mind. Not all New Belgium though.

Scott: Also, Sang Rouge has been staring into my soul everytime I go to beer store, worth pulling the trigger with that $40 price tag? Can’t get myself to do it.

Eno Sarris: that’s the Cascade, Sang Noir, or a variant? Sang Noir is amazing, but I usually pay $30-35. Still. Amazing.

Merv and Make Thronemerry: Brett Lawrie or Ketel Marte and why/why not?

Eno Sarris: In pure value, probably Marte because he’ll have more SBs+HRs (all on SBS side). But I do like Lawrie because of the park change.

Johnny5Alive: kang worth holding onto for $12 in an NL only league, 13 teams, $270 cap? what about schebler at $5?

Eno Sarris: Yes on first. Schebler’s projections are pretty terrible, but Adam Duvall is not very good either. I don’t think so, but maybe.

Guest: What do you think the game plan is for the Astros bench? Gonzalez, Tucker, and Marisnick seem like locks, and then you have the backup catcher. But apparently Matt Duffy is supposed to platoon at third with Valbuena, and then there is only enough room for one of Singleton, AJ Reed, and Tyler White. And, that would only leave 7 relievers in the pen. Seems like sort of a mess.

Eno Sarris: You can’t platoon everywhere! I suppose Marwin could do the platooning at first and/or third, so I think Duffy might be out of luck.

Dock Ellis’ Dilated Pupils: How would it impact the game of baseball if there actually were three home plates, three batters, and three catchers, and the pitcher could choose which one to throw to

Eno Sarris: Would be v trippy.

Eno Sarris: Damn. I’ll be in Arizona.

Ulysses: Hey Eno, as someone who has interest in working in baseball (particularly baseball ops), how would you recommend going about that and getting my name out there? I also understand that it is an incredibly difficult and competitive field out there, is it even worth going for it? My love and passion is baseball, but I know there are many people like myself who may also be more qualified so I don’t really know what to make of it.

Eno Sarris: Becoming accredited in something other than baseball can get you noticed (particularly computer science and analytics), as can doing analytical or scouting work in the public sphere (as in blogging). I think there are too many people at the trough of interning and handshaking their way up the ladder for that to be a really great way to work.

Maxamuz: What is your personal projection for Nelson Cruz this year? In a H2H league I can keep him @ $20 or Blackmon @ $19 (could keep both too) out of a $250 budget. I think Cruz @$20 is a steal still.

Eno Sarris: Steamer’s .255/31/183 R+RBI seems reasonable to me, even if others think it light. He’s 35 and in a terrible park for power. Lets not forget the injuries.

Jim: How much does month to month (and year to year) variance in weather affect the calculated park factors?

Eno Sarris: Weather is the biggest driver of power in terms of park factors, so yeah, regional weather patterns could be important. I’d be interested in looking at Baltimore, which is super hot on average, but probably isn’t very hot in April.

Josh: Hey Eno! What are your thoughts on CJ Cron in 2016? Do you see a breakthrough considering his solid second half in 2015?

Eno Sarris: Even his second half (.258 with a .190 ISO, regular BABIP) is only slightly scintillating. Grades him out to a .260/20 type first baseman, which is meh.

Ampersand: A beer story for you Eno! Vacation to LA, visit the Bruery. Drink 11 small pours of beers between 8% and 18% ABV. Girlfriend drives us back home and I pass out at 6pm. Wake up at midnight, everything is pitch black, I feel well-rested and wide awake and very confused. Also, Mocha Wednesday is the best.

Larry David: Do you agree that there’s something to this “Stanton is injury prone” business? Averaged 121.6 games since 2011 season, which doesn’t seem great.

Eno Sarris: One injury wasn’t really his fault, but it doesn’t seem like he comes back well from his injuries. I’ll give him 140 or so this year.

Halp: For your arsenal scores if a pitcher has 3 pitches where one elite pitch is driving his entire score is there an easy way to tell?

Eno Sarris: Not really. I’ll have to think about it. Maybe just a quick inventory of his pitches in your head.

StarDestroyer: Francis Martes or Jose De Leon? (Assuming they both arrived in MLB at the same time, who do you like better?)

Eno Sarris: De Leon

Prince Wednesday: Do you see anything that suggests increased production from Christian Yelich? I know he’s only 24, but dude is a ground ball machine.

Eno Sarris: Not really. Heyward was similar but by now Heyward had already added fly balls. I see Brett Gardner as the best case scenario for Yelich at this point.

Johnny5Alive: Rosenthal says the rays are suffering from the QO system because they are in position to sign a impact FA but can’t sacrifice the 1st round pick. Ironic, since they whole point of the system was to offer compensation, especially to small market teams who would constantly be losing top free agents.

Eno Sarris: Unintended Consequences is a law.

Art Vandelay: Now that Terry Ryan has basically assured Duffey’s spot in the Twins rotation, do you think that gives him some late round value or is he strictly a streaming option?

Eno Sarris: Maybe. If he pairs the four-seam with the change and basically doesn’t throw the sinker much at all, he can have a 7mph differential and some nice movement relative to his fastball. That’s probably why his change did well in short sample last year. But the more he throws his sinker, the more his change looks like the sinker and the more he becomes a two-pitch pitcher with a 90 mph fastball. Not high up on my list of sleepers.

brad: will turner start season as ss for nats?

Eno Sarris: Espinosa more likely. But I think Turner will end the season at SS for the Nats.

Jeff: Eno, in a small sample Villar made a jump in contact rate both in and out of the zone to near league average, am I crazy for thinking he could be a late sleeper based on his category juice 9 HRs, 24 SBs in 400+ PA last two years?

Eno Sarris: 25 with all the opportunity in the world. Even his projection, pushed out to a full season (.240/12/35) would make him a top 15 shortstop at worst. And even if Arcia comes up, Gennett not looking like a starter and Hill might be toast. I absolutely like him some. 10.2% whiff rate could pair with a 24% K rate and make him usable.

Miketron: Do you think Grimm can get into the closer conversation in Chicago? Maddon didn’t seem to attached to Rondon

Eno Sarris: Sergio Romo said Grimm had the nastiest stuff he’d seen all year, so he’s in the conversation. But Strop might be next? Then again, Strop’s command has him on shaky ground, too. I could see three guys with 7+ saves in that bullpen this year. Handcuffing necessary.

Justin: love crystal castles…I got Pollock for $19 in an NL only $250 7×7 (OBP)….an owner trying to nab him has J. Turner $2, D.Peralta $6 and Gricuk $6….which 2 should (if any) should I ask for?

Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t unless you really need to rebuild. If then, Peralta plus something else you haven’t listed.

Jimmy: Are you a fan of the enjoy by series? If so have you have the unfiltered 2/14?

Eno Sarris: yes, yes, yes.

MRK III: Is it just me, or are a TON of teams using platoons this year? Seems like a majority of the league has a position being split. Is this just a blip, or the start of a long-term, pervasive trend? It’s kind of a bummer for fantasy…

Eno Sarris: Death by running back committee. It’s been around for a long time in baseball but it’s definitely happening a lot right now.

Ethan: Would you keep Rendon $5 in a league with $260 salary cap?

Eno Sarris: yes

Eric: Is this the year for Lucas Duda? .285/.333/.545 Vs LH in 15′!

Eno Sarris: Just one year. He seems to have the plate approach to be okay against lefties, but one year isn’t enough to say the lefty problems are gone.

Brian: Eno, you’ve got to swing by the 151 corridor in VA. 3 breweries with a couple distilleries all popping up. Stop by and say hey while you scout High-A Lynchburg guys…?

Eno Sarris: Got sent a bunch of Hardywood and some of that Chris Ray beer, I liked it. Face Plant IPA was good too. Just need travel budget.

Shawn: Why are sours so expensive?

Eno Sarris: You have to throw them in a barrel for a year. So there’s the cost of storage plus the cost of the barrel factored in. Plus, often there’s fruit in there.

birdwatcher: Love the arsenal score work. Great stuff. You really like Owens that much? I’m working on a trade with a guy that owns him; maybe I can get him tossed in if I add another piece.

Eno Sarris: As a toss-in, I love him. As a mixed league final guy, I like him. Don’t pay too much for him, because he’s still a soft-tossing lefty. But he has a rising fastball, a really nice change, and a decent curve. The pieces are there.

Greg: Eno, I’m a student in Boston and just wanted to brag that I got a Hoponius Union over the weekend. What are your thoughts on Tropicale? I’ve heard it’s a good alternate to Heady Topper

Eno Sarris: The Union is such a great All Day beer. Haven’t had the Tropicale.

Paul: Luis Severino showed a lot of good, but of course it was just 62 IP. What are you seeing in ’16?

Eno Sarris: I don’t really have any concerns about him other than durability. Bit of a flinger.

Brian: Bradley Zimmer, Max Kepler, Jesse Winker: are we talking about OF with similar skillsets? Who stands out as the more productive bat?

Eno Sarris: Kepler has the most well-rounded skillset if the power is real. If not, Zimmer is exciting but I need to see a little more contact.

Ryan: FWIW I enjoyed watching you bully a brewery on Twitter and then feel bad about it. If they don’t want to be bullied, make better beer!

Eno Sarris: Well I just really wanted to say I didn’t like the beer, which I should be able to do.

Eno Sarris: CBS has the largest player universe except you have to pay for some of the features that make it good for dynasty. I like Yahoo fine. You can click all your keepers and they import over.

Tyler: Is Syndergaard the perfect pitcher? Honestly, the guy throws hard, has command, secondary offerings, and really young. Am I wrong to be thinking of him as more or less a top 20 pitcher next season?

Nightshift: Do you think Tai Walker could be better than the current version of Felix this yr or the near future?

Eno Sarris: Doesn’t have the same command.

Lakemonster: Have you had much from Mikkeler brewing? Heard it’s more available on west coast than east. Had one of their beers while in Amsterdam and it was on par with Heady Topper

Eno Sarris: Here’s the problem with Mikkeller: the next beer you have from them will be one of the worst beers you’ve ever had. And then you’ll start the cycle over again. I’d only drink Mikkellers that were recommended to me. They crazy.

Tyler: Last question, favorite Floyd album and why? Very important to know from someone you are getting fantasy baseball advice from.

Rubinator: What are you looking forward to most in the 2016 season?

Eno Sarris: Kinda want to see what Carlos Correa will do.

Rusty: How heavily influenced will your pitcher rankings be by your arensal scores and KPU-BB Ranks?

Eno Sarris: Mostly it’ll show up from around 50-70 in the ranks. That’s where we find our best values, the sleepers. I use those things to mine sleepers more than differentiate studs with track records already.

Paul: Sano ain’t hittin .260!

Eno Sarris: Dude stings it, projected for that number, both numbers were projections. I can see not believing in his contact producing that average, but Pence has to play his age some day too.

Tulowitzki’s Ouchies: What effects do you see from Toronto switching to dirt infield? Slower groundballs leading to lower batting averages or pitcher ERAs? Better for Tulo’s brittleness?

Eno Sarris: Could be good for heavy GB guy Stroman. I guess health could be okay.

Ted Cruz as Jabba the Hut: Is AJ Reed draftable in a league with only one bench spot?

Eno Sarris: Not unless we know he’s up, so not now.

Zorak: Last weekend, a local watering hole that usually has a tap dedicated to sours instead had a Wild Ale from Allagash. Damn, is that ever a funky beer. Tons of funk, a little sour, didn’t love it on the first sip but definitely did by the end of the third beer.

Eno Sarris: Rare Barrel Ensorcelled Sour is what comes to mind first. Trillium Julius among IPAs.

Halp: Wouldn’t SDD address large discrepancies between pitches better then the current way you calculated the average arsenal values.

Eno Sarris: SDD? Standard deviation what? Because Z-scores are based on standard deviations?

Eno Sarris: Bad mechanics, but he’s trying his best to improve them. I’m more than a little worried for him long term, but I’ll buy a share or two this year if he’s going as an SP2/3.

Pete : I traded away Joc Pederson, Alex Cobb and Alex Jackson for Michael Conforto, Carlos Rodon and Rasiel Iglesias. Did I hose myself?

Eno Sarris: No way. Cobb oft-injured, maybe gives him 70 IP this year. Alex Jackson got fat, I heard. I love love the three you got, even if I like Joc more than many.

mike sixel: when you go to a new brewery, do you get the flight, or just 1-2 beers? I usually go flight

Eno Sarris: Always get the flight and then a pint of the winner.

A-a-ron: Haven’t had a beer in over a year, but I want one. Just one. Down to spend $$$ on a bomber of anything besides a sour. Is there a standout I’ve missed this year? I’m in SoCal the specialty stores got the goods.

Eno Sarris: I haven’t done the Rookie of the Year posts for BG yet, but I have the query open and Ballast Point’s Calm Before the Storm rates highly, and as a cream ale, easy drinking since you haven’t had one in a while. Knee Deep Breaking Bud is a nice IPA that’s still around. Dunno if you get Modern Times up north but a bomber of Mega Fortunate Islands would go down easy.

Alex in Austin: So there’s a demand for watching people play video games apparently, and people follow your live drafts online- why not a live video of a draft?

Eno Sarris: I… can’t imagine this is compelling TV.

VidaBlue: What numbers do you project for Aaron Nola this season? He seems like a bargain with where he’s currently being drafted.

Eno Sarris: I’ll take the over or under or whatever means that I like him better than his projected numbers. I could see him using his command to add a few called strikes a’la Kyle Hendricks, and using that step forward and a better home run rate to basically repeat his numbers last year over more innings.

Eno Sarris: Can’t be THAT much worse than seeing that annoying guy that talks to much that you yelled at that one time when you were a little buzzed and annoyed at the office party.

Justin: Have you read Gammons piece on Zack Davies (basically called him a future star)? In an NL only keeper league with no bench is he worth a flier this year?

Eno Sarris: Weird. 89 mph sinker with an elite change… he’ll have to have really good command and believe in that curve more. He’s probably the sixth starter there, at least. But he’s not in the rotation yet, not unless Garza shows up out of shape or doesn’t show up at all, or Jungmann keeps getting worse in the Spring.

Eno Sarris: Yeah put that on the list. I do like them. They might be getting overtaken by the new breweries, but Hi-Res and a few others are still classics.

Prince Wednesday: Speaking of Heyward, he’s another guy I’m curious about. I didn’t realize his GB/FB rate skyrocketed last year. I play in a league with custom categories, where based on Steamer projections, he’s a top 30 guy, which scares me to death.

Eno Sarris: Last year I’ll pay for anything beyond just exactly his projections. New park, new hitting coach, still in his peak, this is the last time I’ll believe there’s a possibility of more, offensively.

Saska: Have you tried homebrewing? Just starting our with a friend and it’s pretty addicting. Not to mention less trips to the beer shop.

Eno Sarris: I’m so bad at it though.

Gregg: Is there any way MLB can force the Wilpons to sell? And did you see that report on their real estate finances?

Eno Sarris: They could, they did it to McCourt in LA basically. But Selig loves the Wilpons, and I bet he still has some influence. I saw that report, and I”m watching the Madoff thing on TV… I bet they paper tigers and have no money.

Eno Sarris: “suddenly”. He’s just a source of steals in an environment that’s bereft of steals. Otherwise, he’s really bad, actually. Juan Pierre lite and Juan Pierre was pretty lite himself.

GN: You said you only drink things with alcohol and water. Does that mean no coffee? Brix City has a great imperial coffee stout called Joe and Oats.

Eno Sarris: I don’t drink coffee and I swear that coffee stouts give me a caffeine buzz but maybe I’m crazy. I do drink them sometimes anyway.

Guest: What do you envision for Roberto Osuna in 2016?

Eno Sarris: Relevance. I know that’s a wishy-washy answer, but he’s really good, and he’ll either push Storen out of the closers’ role, or he’ll start, or he’ll be a *really* good setup man.

JJ Fish: Besides beer and baseball what’s your guilty pleasure?

Eno Sarris: crispy salmon skin. sandwiches.

Eno Sarris: For fantasy, it’s probably Franco, but overall, I think Conforto’s patience and oppo/up the middle approach is better.

Eno Sarris: Anderson maybe, if they don’t sign Desmond, more likely. Crawford, September at most, but I doubt it. I wouldn’t buy them as backups in redraft.

His whiff rate against sliders was 17% (average is 14%), curve was 15% (11% average), so there’s a bit of something there. But he’s also adjusted at least once to this league, so I think he can do it again.
