Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 2/4/16
| 1:40 |
: Until I get here, listen to what my three-year-old calls robot music
| 1:40 |
:
| 12:01 |
: I WAS ONCE LOST BUT NOW AM FOUND IN THE PRESENCE OF THE ENO
| 12:01 |
: Bork/d
| 12:01 |
: Last year you seemed to be a big fan of Berrios. How would you rank Giolito, Berrios, and Urias for this year, next 3?
| 12:01 |
: In that order
| 12:01 |
: best fantasy player in 2016 only: Hunter Pence or Miguel Sano
| 12:01 |
: Sano
| 12:01 |
: I know you like DeSclafini, can you remind me again why?
| 12:02 |
: Good command of fastball and slider. I used to like the movement of his change but he was telegraphing the pitch by slowing his arm speed. Late last year he was throwing the pitch harder and throwing more curves and finished the season with two straight months of a 16% K-BB%, which is top 15. I wrote about it today on ESPN.
| 12:03 |
: So Eno…Where does Lazarito sign?
| 12:03 |
: Going to guess Braves or Padres.
| 12:03 |
: Angels and Indians need OF help. Does Fowler end up in either spot?
| 12:03 |
: Whit Sox?
| 12:03 |
: Eno, love your stuff. How do you feel about Stroman this year? He didn’t have an arm injury, so do you see something like 180 IP, 175 Ks?
| 12:03 |
: Fewer Ks. He traded vertical movement (better for whiffs) for horizontal movement (better for grounders) after his injury.
| 12:04 |
: Since anything fun is blocked through my work firewall I’m going to assume the robot music is the sound of the ventilation system above my head.
| 12:04 |
: Crystal Castles.
| 12:04 |
: Don’t give up on Other Half, Eno. Gotta get your hands on all green everything.
| 12:04 |
: I’m still excited for the OH/Tired Hands collabo in the fridge.
| 12:04 |
: Hi Eno. I hear you like them real thick and juicy
| 12:04 |
: OOOH MIX A LOTS IN TROUBLE
| 12:04 |
: Any breweries out there that people love, that you just don’t get? Here in CT and people rave about Kent Falls, but just doesn’t do a whole lot for me (and I generally like farmhouse which is there main style)
| 12:05 |
: Don’t know if they count, but Anchor Steam, Fat Tire come to mind. Not all New Belgium though.
| 12:05 |
: Also, Sang Rouge has been staring into my soul everytime I go to beer store, worth pulling the trigger with that $40 price tag? Can’t get myself to do it.
| 12:05 |
: that’s the Cascade, Sang Noir, or a variant? Sang Noir is amazing, but I usually pay $30-35. Still. Amazing.
| 12:06 |
: Brett Lawrie or Ketel Marte and why/why not?
| 12:06 |
: In pure value, probably Marte because he’ll have more SBs+HRs (all on SBS side). But I do like Lawrie because of the park change.
| 12:06 |
: kang worth holding onto for $12 in an NL only league, 13 teams, $270 cap? what about schebler at $5?
| 12:07 |
: Yes on first. Schebler’s projections are pretty terrible, but Adam Duvall is not very good either. I don’t think so, but maybe.
| 12:08 |
: What do you think the game plan is for the Astros bench? Gonzalez, Tucker, and Marisnick seem like locks, and then you have the backup catcher. But apparently Matt Duffy is supposed to platoon at third with Valbuena, and then there is only enough room for one of Singleton, AJ Reed, and Tyler White. And, that would only leave 7 relievers in the pen. Seems like sort of a mess.
| 12:09 |
: You can’t platoon everywhere! I suppose Marwin could do the platooning at first and/or third, so I think Duffy might be out of luck.
| 12:09 |
: How would it impact the game of baseball if there actually were three home plates, three batters, and three catchers, and the pitcher could choose which one to throw to
| 12:09 |
: Would be v trippy.
| 12:09 |
: I’ll be in SF first week of March. Let’s grab beer!
| 12:09 |
: Damn. I’ll be in Arizona.
| 12:09 |
: Hey Eno, as someone who has interest in working in baseball (particularly baseball ops), how would you recommend going about that and getting my name out there? I also understand that it is an incredibly difficult and competitive field out there, is it even worth going for it? My love and passion is baseball, but I know there are many people like myself who may also be more qualified so I don’t really know what to make of it.
| 12:11 |
: Becoming accredited in something other than baseball can get you noticed (particularly computer science and analytics), as can doing analytical or scouting work in the public sphere (as in blogging). I think there are too many people at the trough of interning and handshaking their way up the ladder for that to be a really great way to work.
| 12:12 |
: What is your personal projection for Nelson Cruz this year? In a H2H league I can keep him @ $20 or Blackmon @ $19 (could keep both too) out of a $250 budget. I think Cruz @$20 is a steal still.
| 12:12 |
: Steamer’s .255/31/183 R+RBI seems reasonable to me, even if others think it light. He’s 35 and in a terrible park for power. Lets not forget the injuries.
| 12:13 |
: How much does month to month (and year to year) variance in weather affect the calculated park factors?
| 12:14 |
: Weather is the biggest driver of power in terms of park factors, so yeah, regional weather patterns could be important. I’d be interested in looking at Baltimore, which is super hot on average, but probably isn’t very hot in April.
| 12:14 |
: Hey Eno! What are your thoughts on CJ Cron in 2016? Do you see a breakthrough considering his solid second half in 2015?
| 12:15 |
: Even his second half (.258 with a .190 ISO, regular BABIP) is only slightly scintillating. Grades him out to a .260/20 type first baseman, which is meh.
| 12:15 |
: A beer story for you Eno! Vacation to LA, visit the Bruery. Drink 11 small pours of beers between 8% and 18% ABV. Girlfriend drives us back home and I pass out at 6pm. Wake up at midnight, everything is pitch black, I feel well-rested and wide awake and very confused. Also, Mocha Wednesday is the best.
| 12:16 |
: Admit that someone mistook you for Geno Harris once!
| 12:16 |
: Crystal Castles is pretty much the ventilation system with noises that you think might be voices but might just be noises so I was close
| 12:16 |
: We’re getting going here.
| 12:17 |
: We need Eno pitcher ranks!
| 12:17 |
: Coming soon!
| 12:17 |
: Sano over Pence?!?!?
| 12:18 |
: .260 with 40 HR+SB for Sano vs .270 with 30 HR+SB for Pence. Yah I take Sano.
| 12:18 |
: Do you agree that there’s something to this “Stanton is injury prone” business? Averaged 121.6 games since 2011 season, which doesn’t seem great.
| 12:19 |
: One injury wasn’t really his fault, but it doesn’t seem like he comes back well from his injuries. I’ll give him 140 or so this year.
| 12:19 |
: For your arsenal scores if a pitcher has 3 pitches where one elite pitch is driving his entire score is there an easy way to tell?
| 12:19 |
: Not really. I’ll have to think about it. Maybe just a quick inventory of his pitches in your head.
| 12:19 |
: Francis Martes or Jose De Leon? (Assuming they both arrived in MLB at the same time, who do you like better?)
| 12:19 |
: De Leon
| 12:19 |
: Do you see anything that suggests increased production from Christian Yelich? I know he’s only 24, but dude is a ground ball machine.
| 12:20 |
: Not really. Heyward was similar but by now Heyward had already added fly balls. I see Brett Gardner as the best case scenario for Yelich at this point.
| 12:21 |
: I’ve enjoyed this song v much done by a few different bands. Here’s the original.
| 12:21 |
:
| 12:22 |
: Rosenthal says the rays are suffering from the QO system because they are in position to sign a impact FA but can’t sacrifice the 1st round pick. Ironic, since they whole point of the system was to offer compensation, especially to small market teams who would constantly be losing top free agents.
| 12:22 |
: Unintended Consequences is a law.
| 12:23 |
: Now that Terry Ryan has basically assured Duffey’s spot in the Twins rotation, do you think that gives him some late round value or is he strictly a streaming option?
| 12:24 |
: Maybe. If he pairs the four-seam with the change and basically doesn’t throw the sinker much at all, he can have a 7mph differential and some nice movement relative to his fastball. That’s probably why his change did well in short sample last year. But the more he throws his sinker, the more his change looks like the sinker and the more he becomes a two-pitch pitcher with a 90 mph fastball. Not high up on my list of sleepers.
| 12:24 |
: will turner start season as ss for nats?
| 12:24 |
: Espinosa more likely. But I think Turner will end the season at SS for the Nats.
| 12:25 |
: Eno, in a small sample Villar made a jump in contact rate both in and out of the zone to near league average, am I crazy for thinking he could be a late sleeper based on his category juice 9 HRs, 24 SBs in 400+ PA last two years?
| 12:26 |
: 25 with all the opportunity in the world. Even his projection, pushed out to a full season (.240/12/35) would make him a top 15 shortstop at worst. And even if Arcia comes up, Gennett not looking like a starter and Hill might be toast. I absolutely like him some. 10.2% whiff rate could pair with a 24% K rate and make him usable.
| 12:26 |
: Do you think Grimm can get into the closer conversation in Chicago? Maddon didn’t seem to attached to Rondon
| 12:27 |
: Sergio Romo said Grimm had the nastiest stuff he’d seen all year, so he’s in the conversation. But Strop might be next? Then again, Strop’s command has him on shaky ground, too. I could see three guys with 7+ saves in that bullpen this year. Handcuffing necessary.
| 12:27 |
: love crystal castles…I got Pollock for $19 in an NL only $250 7×7 (OBP)….an owner trying to nab him has J. Turner $2, D.Peralta $6 and Gricuk $6….which 2 should (if any) should I ask for?
| 12:28 |
: I wouldn’t unless you really need to rebuild. If then, Peralta plus something else you haven’t listed.
| 12:28 |
: Are you a fan of the enjoy by series? If so have you have the unfiltered 2/14?
| 12:28 |
: yes, yes, yes.
| 12:28 |
: Is it just me, or are a TON of teams using platoons this year? Seems like a majority of the league has a position being split. Is this just a blip, or the start of a long-term, pervasive trend? It’s kind of a bummer for fantasy…
| 12:28 |
: Death by running back committee. It’s been around for a long time in baseball but it’s definitely happening a lot right now.
| 12:29 |
: Would you keep Rendon $5 in a league with $260 salary cap?
| 12:29 |
: yes
| 12:29 |
: Is this the year for Lucas Duda? .285/.333/.545 Vs LH in 15′!
| 12:29 |
: Just one year. He seems to have the plate approach to be okay against lefties, but one year isn’t enough to say the lefty problems are gone.
| 12:29 |
: Eno, you’ve got to swing by the 151 corridor in VA. 3 breweries with a couple distilleries all popping up. Stop by and say hey while you scout High-A Lynchburg guys…?
| 12:30 |
: Got sent a bunch of Hardywood and some of that Chris Ray beer, I liked it. Face Plant IPA was good too. Just need travel budget.
| 12:31 |
: Why are sours so expensive?
| 12:31 |
: You have to throw them in a barrel for a year. So there’s the cost of storage plus the cost of the barrel factored in. Plus, often there’s fruit in there.
| 12:31 |
: Love the arsenal score work. Great stuff. You really like Owens that much? I’m working on a trade with a guy that owns him; maybe I can get him tossed in if I add another piece.
| 12:32 |
: As a toss-in, I love him. As a mixed league final guy, I like him. Don’t pay too much for him, because he’s still a soft-tossing lefty. But he has a rising fastball, a really nice change, and a decent curve. The pieces are there.
| 12:32 |
: Eno, I’m a student in Boston and just wanted to brag that I got a Hoponius Union over the weekend. What are your thoughts on Tropicale? I’ve heard it’s a good alternate to Heady Topper
| 12:33 |
: The Union is such a great All Day beer. Haven’t had the Tropicale.
| 12:33 |
: Luis Severino showed a lot of good, but of course it was just 62 IP. What are you seeing in ’16?
| 12:33 |
: I don’t really have any concerns about him other than durability. Bit of a flinger.
| 12:33 |
: Bradley Zimmer, Max Kepler, Jesse Winker: are we talking about OF with similar skillsets? Who stands out as the more productive bat?
| 12:34 |
: Kepler has the most well-rounded skillset if the power is real. If not, Zimmer is exciting but I need to see a little more contact.
| 12:34 |
: FWIW I enjoyed watching you bully a brewery on Twitter and then feel bad about it. If they don’t want to be bullied, make better beer!
| 12:34 |
: Well I just really wanted to say I didn’t like the beer, which I should be able to do.
| 12:34 |
: h/t to Banknotes Industries: Seung-hwan Oh’s nicknames of Stone Buddha and Final Boss are probably now the best in baseball, yes?
| 12:35 |
: Pretty awesome, yes.
| 12:35 |
: The key is to baste the youngling’s underside with a white butter sauce before firmly massaging the upper limbs in order to preserve that peppery flavor throughout.
| 12:35 |
: I’m subbing but i’m on this chat and doing a mock draft. Am I nuts?
| 12:36 |
: At J. Wakefield brewery in Miami they have wall murals of Star Wars characters drinking beers in a pub. But there’s Darth Vader, glass in front of him WITH A GIANT MASK ON WITH NO STRAW HOLE! How the funk does Darth get drunk?!? Can the force vaporize it into his breathing tubes or will that kill the alcohol!
| 12:36 |
: Epic finish.
| 12:36 |
: There’s a lot of corn in my poop today, but I haven’t had corn for, like, 3 days.
| 12:36 |
: It’s been hanging out in there. How does that make you feel.
| 12:36 |
: Have you tried Odell’s line in Colorado? Hoppier than New Belgium.
| 12:37 |
: They fine!
| 12:37 |
: What site offers the best platform for establishing a dynasty league? I’ve always used ESPN but never been in a dynasty league and am hoping to set one up soon
| 12:37 |
: CBS has the largest player universe except you have to pay for some of the features that make it good for dynasty. I like Yahoo fine. You can click all your keepers and they import over.
| 12:37 |
:
| 12:37 |
: bone chilling
| 12:38 |
: Is Syndergaard the perfect pitcher? Honestly, the guy throws hard, has command, secondary offerings, and really young. Am I wrong to be thinking of him as more or less a top 20 pitcher next season?
| 12:38 |
: Had a couple forearm tightness bouts though.
| 12:38 |
: Do you think Tai Walker could be better than the current version of Felix this yr or the near future?
| 12:38 |
: Doesn’t have the same command.
| 12:38 |
: Have you had much from Mikkeler brewing? Heard it’s more available on west coast than east. Had one of their beers while in Amsterdam and it was on par with Heady Topper
| 12:39 |
: Here’s the problem with Mikkeller: the next beer you have from them will be one of the worst beers you’ve ever had. And then you’ll start the cycle over again. I’d only drink Mikkellers that were recommended to me. They crazy.
| 12:40 |
: Last question, favorite Floyd album and why? Very important to know from someone you are getting fantasy baseball advice from.
| 12:40 |
: Wish you were here?
| 12:40 |
: What are you looking forward to most in the 2016 season?
| 12:40 |
: Kinda want to see what Carlos Correa will do.
| 12:40 |
: How heavily influenced will your pitcher rankings be by your arensal scores and KPU-BB Ranks?
| 12:41 |
: Mostly it’ll show up from around 50-70 in the ranks. That’s where we find our best values, the sleepers. I use those things to mine sleepers more than differentiate studs with track records already.
| 12:41 |
: Sano ain’t hittin .260!
| 12:42 |
: Dude stings it, projected for that number, both numbers were projections. I can see not believing in his contact producing that average, but Pence has to play his age some day too.
| 12:42 |
: What effects do you see from Toronto switching to dirt infield? Slower groundballs leading to lower batting averages or pitcher ERAs? Better for Tulo’s brittleness?
| 12:42 |
: Could be good for heavy GB guy Stroman. I guess health could be okay.
| 12:42 |
: Is AJ Reed draftable in a league with only one bench spot?
| 12:43 |
: Not unless we know he’s up, so not now.
| 12:43 |
: Lucas Duda has to finish with what, 120 RBIs this year right?
| 12:44 |
: Last weekend, a local watering hole that usually has a tap dedicated to sours instead had a Wild Ale from Allagash. Damn, is that ever a funky beer. Tons of funk, a little sour, didn’t love it on the first sip but definitely did by the end of the third beer.
| 12:44 |
: This is how I feel when Eno doesn’t answer my chat questions: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PZqQT5904_U
| 12:44 |
: LUDER
| 12:44 |
: Assuming Perez, Martin, and McCann are the first tier, how would you rank the following 2nd tier catchers in an AL-Only league for 2016 fantasy purposes – Wieters, Gomes, Swihart, Vogt?
| 12:45 |
: Wieters Vogt … Swihart Gomes
| 12:45 |
: What is your “Mike Trout of beer”?
| 12:45 |
: Rare Barrel Ensorcelled Sour is what comes to mind first. Trillium Julius among IPAs.
| 12:45 |
: Sorry, Tree House Julius.
| 12:45 |
: Wouldn’t SDD address large discrepancies between pitches better then the current way you calculated the average arsenal values.
| 12:46 |
: SDD? Standard deviation what? Because Z-scores are based on standard deviations?
| 12:46 |
: you think Buxton is worth a 15th round keeper for the next three years?
| 12:46 |
: Worth it to take the risk. You may end up taking the loss though.
| 12:46 |
: how concerned should i be about Carlos Martinez’s shoulder and how do you think he’ll fare this season?
| 12:47 |
: Bad mechanics, but he’s trying his best to improve them. I’m more than a little worried for him long term, but I’ll buy a share or two this year if he’s going as an SP2/3.
| 12:47 |
: I traded away Joc Pederson, Alex Cobb and Alex Jackson for Michael Conforto, Carlos Rodon and Rasiel Iglesias. Did I hose myself?
| 12:47 |
: No way. Cobb oft-injured, maybe gives him 70 IP this year. Alex Jackson got fat, I heard. I love love the three you got, even if I like Joc more than many.
| 12:47 |
: when you go to a new brewery, do you get the flight, or just 1-2 beers? I usually go flight
| 12:48 |
: Always get the flight and then a pint of the winner.
| 12:49 |
: Haven’t had a beer in over a year, but I want one. Just one. Down to spend $$$ on a bomber of anything besides a sour. Is there a standout I’ve missed this year? I’m in SoCal the specialty stores got the goods.
| 12:51 |
: I haven’t done the Rookie of the Year posts for BG yet, but I have the query open and Ballast Point’s Calm Before the Storm rates highly, and as a cream ale, easy drinking since you haven’t had one in a while. Knee Deep Breaking Bud is a nice IPA that’s still around. Dunno if you get Modern Times up north but a bomber of Mega Fortunate Islands would go down easy.
| 12:51 |
: So there’s a demand for watching people play video games apparently, and people follow your live drafts online- why not a live video of a draft?
| 12:51 |
: I… can’t imagine this is compelling TV.
| 12:52 |
: Saw you had Karns on your team, I just traded away my only share. ??
| 12:52 |
: Is okay, he’s old and injury-prone. Just decent pitcher in a good park though.
| 12:53 |
:
| 12:53 |
: Where does Ian “I walked away from so much money and I regret it everyday” Desmond end up?
| 12:53 |
: Has to be White Sox, where he can play short and outfield?
| 12:54 |
: What numbers do you project for Aaron Nola this season? He seems like a bargain with where he’s currently being drafted.
| 12:55 |
: I’ll take the over or under or whatever means that I like him better than his projected numbers. I could see him using his command to add a few called strikes a’la Kyle Hendricks, and using that step forward and a better home run rate to basically repeat his numbers last year over more innings.
| 12:55 |
: My local store is getting their Hopslam delivery today…
| 12:55 |
: I’m getting mine tomorrow probably!
| 12:55 |
: Is Japan ready for Jonny Gomes?
| 12:55 |
: I need to see him on a Japanese game show. Now.
| 12:55 |
: What are your thoughts on inter office dating? On one hand you can’t dismiss love when love arises. On the other hand, if your heart gets broken and you’re stuck doing that awkward hello every time you past them in the hallway….
| 12:56 |
: Can’t be THAT much worse than seeing that annoying guy that talks to much that you yelled at that one time when you were a little buzzed and annoyed at the office party.
| 12:56 |
: Have you read Gammons piece on Zack Davies (basically called him a future star)? In an NL only keeper league with no bench is he worth a flier this year?
| 12:57 |
: Weird. 89 mph sinker with an elite change… he’ll have to have really good command and believe in that curve more. He’s probably the sixth starter there, at least. But he’s not in the rotation yet, not unless Garza shows up out of shape or doesn’t show up at all, or Jungmann keeps getting worse in the Spring.
| 12:57 |
: Lucas Duda, bunting machine.
| 12:57 |
: ENO! HOW DARE YOU SPEAK ILL OF THE GREAT ONE.
| 12:57 |
: I appears that Almanac is going to be hitting the shelves in MKE in the near future. Any recs for which of their sours to try first?
| 12:58 |
: The single-hop sours, all of them.
| 12:58 |
: I’ll be in NYC in april, what beers should I be looking at that I can’t get in Chicago?
| 1:00 |
: I hear good things about Grimm. My first Other Half was not super exciting. Captain Lawrence is good. Carton Boat and anything else if you can find it. Finback. Third Rail, Rushing Duck, Transmitter.
| 1:00 |
: I was kidding, I’ll actually be in Arizona that week. Let’s grab beer!
| 1:00 |
: I think I’m going to do a meetup in Arizona this year. March 10?
| 1:01 |
: Why do you like the word “putrid” so much?
| 1:01 |
: It sounds like what it is. The PU in the front is just too delectable.
| 1:01 |
: Is there any chance Michael Pineda can stay healthy for even 180 innings or should I be looking to trade him? His price isn’t unreasonable.
| 1:01 |
: I’d hold until he puts that season together and sell him as an ace.
| 1:01 |
: Worse promotion: 1) Want to join a foursome with a #Marlins player?
https://t.co/a9vXdjJxjZor |
| 1:02 |
: How about the Binghamton Mets “Netflix and Chill” idea?
| 1:02 |
: Worse promotion: 1)Want to join a foursome with a #Marlins player? https://t.co/a9vXdjJxjZ or 2) Netflix and chill
| 1:02 |
: oh hah
| 1:02 |
: I had a dream i met you at the grand Canyon. I pretended to not know who you were but I was geeking out inside. Do people ever get excited that you are you?
| 1:02 |
: I told a story about seeing a woman twerk upside down to get a baseball players attention at the meetup and someone said, yeah, well, you get that from 30-year-old men. We all laughed a bit uncomfortably.
| 1:02 |
: Are you a Sixpoint Brewing fan? Their Hi-Res is a seriously good beer
| 1:03 |
: Yeah put that on the list. I do like them. They might be getting overtaken by the new breweries, but Hi-Res and a few others are still classics.

| 1:03 |
: Speaking of Heyward, he’s another guy I’m curious about. I didn’t realize his GB/FB rate skyrocketed last year. I play in a league with custom categories, where based on Steamer projections, he’s a top 30 guy, which scares me to death.
| 1:03 |
: Last year I’ll pay for anything beyond just exactly his projections. New park, new hitting coach, still in his peak, this is the last time I’ll believe there’s a possibility of more, offensively.
| 1:04 |
: Have you tried homebrewing? Just starting our with a friend and it’s pretty addicting. Not to mention less trips to the beer shop.
| 1:04 |
: I’m so bad at it though.
| 1:04 |
: Is there any way MLB can force the Wilpons to sell? And did you see that report on their real estate finances?
| 1:04 |
: They could, they did it to McCourt in LA basically. But Selig loves the Wilpons, and I bet he still has some influence. I saw that report, and I”m watching the Madoff thing on TV… I bet they paper tigers and have no money.
| 1:05 |
: SO I CANT SEE MUSIC VIDEOS BUT I CAN SEE A CREEPY RABBIT? THANKS FIREWALL.
| 1:05 |
: Let’s not get too angry about this, though.
| 1:05 |
: Are worried that, if you keep bragging about the great beer you have that I…. I mean someone might break in and take it
| 1:05 |
: I spend my entire working day about one foot from my beer fridge.
| 1:06 |
: over/under: my kibble or my dribble?
| 1:06 |
: you keep coming up with good ones.
| 1:06 |
: do you like ft collins?
| 1:06 |
: yes, v much. had the galaxy dry hopped, so good.
| 1:06 |
: do you like ft collins brews i meant
| 1:06 |
: oh i thought that was a trillium. haven’t had them!
| 1:06 |
: Severino or Matz next 5 years?
| 1:07 |
: Both injury prone. Severino stuff better.
| 1:07 |
: Hey Eno, will you be at Spring Training in Florida? Mainly asking because I’m anxiously waiting for an interview in German with Max Kepler
| 1:07 |
: Wir mussen warten biss er im MLB ist.
| 1:07 |
: What brewey were you bullying for making crap beer?
| 1:07 |
: I just said I didn’t like the Other Half IPA. Thats it! They favorited it and I felt bad.
| 1:08 |
: Why should I suddenly care about Ben Revere when he’s not even a lock to hold on to leadoff role?
| 1:08 |
: “suddenly”. He’s just a source of steals in an environment that’s bereft of steals. Otherwise, he’s really bad, actually. Juan Pierre lite and Juan Pierre was pretty lite himself.
| 1:08 |
: You said you only drink things with alcohol and water. Does that mean no coffee? Brix City has a great imperial coffee stout called Joe and Oats.
| 1:09 |
: I don’t drink coffee and I swear that coffee stouts give me a caffeine buzz but maybe I’m crazy. I do drink them sometimes anyway.
| 1:09 |
: What do you envision for Roberto Osuna in 2016?
| 1:09 |
: Relevance. I know that’s a wishy-washy answer, but he’s really good, and he’ll either push Storen out of the closers’ role, or he’ll start, or he’ll be a *really* good setup man.
| 1:09 |
: Besides beer and baseball what’s your guilty pleasure?
| 1:10 |
: crispy salmon skin. sandwiches.
| 1:10 |
: When getting the flight I always drink from lightest to darkest beers. Is there a correct way to do it or just go for what looks good?
| 1:10 |
: just be careful of sours, though you can use them to refresh your palate since they are so different.
| 1:10 |
: “I think we’re alone now, doesn’t seem to be anyone around!”
| 1:10 |
: I want to leave this one alone, right here, in all its glory.
| 1:11 |
: Favorite beer you had in Seattle?
| 1:11 |
: Finnback Rosehip and Cranberry Cider. Second was something from Holy Mountain, one of their tart saisons.
| 1:11 |
: If you lived within 1 hour of Kern River Brewing how long would it take you to pay a visit?
| 1:11 |
: one week
| 1:11 |
: If you did a live draft on twitch.tv you would have tons of viewers. I’m serious.
| 1:11 |
: Seems strange. I’d have to shower and put clothes on.
| 1:12 |
: My mom and I picked a fantasy team together. I picked players using sound reasoning and she picked using the cutest butt approach. It’s going to be an interesting year.
| 1:12 |
: There’s enough luck that this just might work. Plus: cute butt probably means they in good shape? Thinking of Votto and tight pants last year.
| 1:12 |
: Inter office dating I’ve found is better kept as casual sex imo
| 1:12 |
: Can I let my pet rats go in a park if I don’t like their smell and need to get rid of them?
| 1:13 |
: I hear you got a big appetite, Lardass. Don’t even think about winning this.
| 1:13 |
: I figure this is a good lude, but I dont’ really understand any of it.
| 1:13 |
: or *because I don’t.
| 1:13 |
: You going to Outside Lands in August? Radiohead…I’m there.
| 1:13 |
: Damn. I did take my son there when he was a baby, and Radiohead still one of my favorite shows. Maybe.
| 1:14 |
:
| 1:14 |
: It me. With my sons.
| 1:14 |
: it me, without my sons.
| 1:14 |
:
| 1:14 |
: Are you only answering pitching questions today? I didn’t want to have to ask YOU this of all people, but since you’re not answering my other questions: when does Rubby moved to the bullpen?
| 1:14 |
: This is his poop/potty year.
| 1:15 |
: Thoughts on Puig this year?
| 1:15 |
: I actually like him. Strong up the middle approach, has made adjustments in past, knows he’s under the microscope. Projections (.285/22/10) are already pretty good, but I’ll give him more power than that.
| 1:15 |
: My wife said that, after she gives birth, she wants a margarita and some salami. I said that’s how we got in this position in the first place
| 1:16 |
: BADUMCHING
| 1:16 |
: I have 10 toes and 10 fingers, 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 arms, 2 legs. Just an update because I did my daily check.
| 1:16 |
: Proposing to the lady in Negril this weekend, any good celebration spot recommendations?
| 1:17 |
: Alfred’s Ocean Palace was always my jam, but that’s just a fun place with tons of people. If you want to spend some time alone, I think the Rock House has a restaurant that’s not always full of people and the view is spectacular.
| 1:17 |
: For the guy who asked about NYC brews… Along with Grimm (which is all timing need to come during a release) and other half there are now always many Hill Farmsteads and Maine Beer co all over the city. Threes Barrier and singlecut are other local breweries killing it.
| 1:18 |
: One beer question that’s been bugging the hell out of me. Why does Ballast price Sculpin so high? I’m not against buying expensive beers, but they’re $15 for just a normal six pack. Do they do anything that special for the extra $5 per six pack?
| 1:18 |
: Do you buy $7 bombers? $10 bombers? Check the math on that one!
| 1:18 |
: Eno, Try Frashers Smokehouse in PHX while you are there. Solid food. Works needs to be done on the beer selection, but mmmm smoked meat.
| 1:18 |
: Nice. I need this. thanks!
| 1:18 |
: Digging the IPAs with citrus lately. U like?
| 1:18 |
: JULIUS! yes. but I also like some stone fruit (mango) in there.
| 1:19 |
: Conforto or Piscotty?
| 1:19 |
: Conforto.
| 1:19 |
: How much of an innings increase is too much? For example, Carrasco pitched around 180 last year. Is 220 too much? Is 200 too little?
| 1:19 |
: Rule of thumb I’ve seen is 20%, but he’s probably good to go.
| 1:19 |
: For shubbles, an over/under: my happies or my crappies.
| 1:19 |
: Too easy, we all take the happies.
| 1:20 |
: Tropeano gonna break camp in the LAA rotation?
| 1:20 |
: Only if Weaver is still at 85 or so.
| 1:20 |
: I snagged Jerad Eickhoff. Can a pitcher survive or even thrive with such a meh fastball but knee-buckling breaking stuff?
| 1:20 |
: In the National League, I’m taking that bet.
| 1:20 |
: I argue that Glasnow and Reyes have a higher ceiling than Giolito because of their K potential, which is backed up but all 3 players numbers in the minors. Prove me wrong.
| 1:21 |
: Giolito’s down year for Ks has me concerned. Even if it was just because he was working on the changeup, it means that the change isn’t great.
| 1:21 |
: How long can I hold off Mallex Smith?
| 1:21 |
: Is that the question? I don’t think you’re starting in any spot in the outfield, so if you’re talking about backup CF… not long.
| 1:22 |
: Coffee and beer? Had Allagash’s James Bean over the weekend – fantastic ale (Curieux) with cold pressed coffee. Can’t recommend it enough. Also, Allagash makes a beer called Interlude.
| 1:22 |
: Both of these things are true.
| 1:22 |
: You’d be best to leave the clothes off
| 1:22 |
: Do you ever worry about the lack of access to FO baseball jobs for non-upper middle class+ candidates?
| 1:23 |
: It probably manifests itself most in the idea of players as fungible assets rather than people. The good news, sorta, is that former players find their way into the FOs, too, and they have a different perspective.
| 1:23 |
: Are you an Umphrey’s McGee fan? They covered Jessica last night. Though your post could have just been a coincidence.
| 1:23 |
: Hah, coincidence, though I bet that was a fun cover.
| 1:24 |
: My wife speaks German but I don’t. What does ‘dumpkoff’ mean and why am I one?
| 1:24 |
: You probably left the toilet seat up.
| 1:24 |
: 10 fingers, 10 toes, 10 lbs., 10 oz. is my favorite Zion I song, thanks for making me think of it.
| 1:24 |
: Eno! Am I too late?
| 1:24 |
: 1:18, I”m almost caught up!
| 1:25 |
: Eno I have a real problem here. I’m kinda smart (I read FanGraphs) and am in a real good 10 team keeper league with a 6×6 scoring system. I don’t know how to properly evaluate my league’s auction values by inputting our settings into some sort of tool. Where can I do this?
| 1:25 |
: You want me to answer this question? It’s easy! http://www.fangraphs.com/auctiontool.aspx
| 1:25 |
: How bullish are you on tipping? What’s your usual rule of thumb for tipping really good/really bad service?
| 1:26 |
: They get paid terribly. I always tip, even if bad, at least 10%. Default is 15-20.
| 1:26 |
: How screwed is my fantasy team (keep 16 league) when I had to keep both Ziegler and Cishek on the roster?
| 1:26 |
: At least it’s 16!
| 1:26 |
: Ignoring position, who has the better bat/peak years: Maikel Franco or Michael Conforto?
| 1:27 |
: For fantasy, it’s probably Franco, but overall, I think Conforto’s patience and oppo/up the middle approach is better.
| 1:27 |
: Do we get to see Tim Anderson or JP Crawford at all this year? Are they worth drafting late as solid backups or do I need to spend more on other MI
| 1:27 |
: Anderson maybe, if they don’t sign Desmond, more likely. Crawford, September at most, but I doubt it. I wouldn’t buy them as backups in redraft.
| 1:28 |
: There are too many websites and blogs out there giving out sleepers. Even getting Jerad Eickhoff from an owner is a mess of frustration. Can you do a Wet Blanket podcast that talks values back down to Earth?
| 1:28 |
: You know, this happens in scouting writing too. Everyone wants to talk everyone up! Who’s talking crap on people. That’s why I wrote that piece about lumps of coal for the top pitching guys. You could flip the script and talk crap on everyone. Would be valuable.
| 1:28 |
: In an effort to cut down their strikeouts, The Orioles just got Odrisamer Despaigne
| 1:29 |
: Did they really? Oh man. He’s a joy to watch, and probably also to face.
| 1:29 |
: What do you think of Verlander and Matt Moore this year?
| 1:29 |
: Buying a few shares of Verlander based on resurgence of the high fastball.
| 1:30 |
:
| 1:31 |
: Is Lee that new mariner really 6’5 300 lbs?
| 1:31 |
: We need Japhet Amador. If that doesn’t work, we’ll settle for Yapeht Kotto
| 1:31 |
: asked and answered.
| 1:31 |
: Having a bachelor party in portland. What breweries/bars are worth going to? I have heard cascade is worth going to. But what are some other good/lesser known spots?
| 1:32 |
: Hair of the Dog, Upright (for siason), Breakside.
| 1:32 |
: Wet blanket Carlos Correa’s power based on his 62% GB rate to his pull side.
| 1:32 |
: Follow up on my Sculpin question. I understand the math. But bombers are usually beers only available in bombers. Sculpins are everyday beers not special releases or seasonal or anything. I just don’t see many other six packs that are $15.
| 1:33 |
: True, but Sculpin used to be that special bomber beer, so they trading on that. And the Grapefruit is selling out, so they happy. That’s why, I guess.
| 1:33 |
: $10 Aaron Nola or $6 Yordano Ventura? 20 team league with where 100 SP’s will be on rosters
| 1:33 |
: Still Yordano. More pure stuff.
| 1:33 |
: what to do about the fact that nerds in my league read everything i do, take minutes on every chat i participate in, follow my secret baseball-only twitters? making decisions for myself is NOT AN OPTION.
| 1:34 |
: Would you pay for a discreet advice channel?
| 1:34 |
: How is Severino Injury prone? Had a blister once, no arm troubles, ever.
| 1:34 |
: Based on delivery/mechanics.
| 1:34 |
: Kang Kang Kang…Bang! This guy was ringing the bell last summer for the Buccos. Assuming he is at full health by May latest do you think he will have an even better year in 2016?
| 1:35 |
: Someone was asking about his work against breaking balls, and that the league will adjust to that. His whiff rate against sliders was 17% (average is 14%), curve was 15% (11% average), so there’s a bit of something there. But he’s also adjusted at least once to this league, so I think he can do it again.
| 1:36 |
: Chris Sale’s 2nd half saw increased slider usage, higher contact % allowed, lower swstr%. Any concerns there?
| 1:36 |
: Only the ongoing injury issue, if he was doing that for an injury reason. Otherwise, when he’s in, he’s still awesome.
| 1:36 |
: Doing Ottoneu for the first time. Any draft advice other than very low abv beers so I’m not passed out drunk by the 6th hour?
| 1:37 |
: Don’t pay more than $5 for a prospect, don’t buy more than 7 or so prospects, only platoon one or two spots, not more.
| 1:37 |
: MOOKIE LOVE… AL Only, 5×5 – What $ wins MOOKIE?
| 1:37 |
: Auction calculator says $35, but has Trout at $41, so you may have to go to $40 to get Betts.
| 1:38 |
: Can I send you a few questions to ask Kepler? And if you want to impress him with knowledge of German baseball I can help you out. I once played with a teammate of his
| 1:38 |
: Yes! my handle at gmail.
| 1:38 |
:
| 1:39 |
: cool cover. saw the original in London.
| 1:39 |
: Assume you have a major league career that accumulates 20 WAR. How do you break that WAR down over your career? I’d do a 15 war full season, then 5 war over 1/3 of a season, then a non-quality-of-life-affecting career-ending injury, leaving the question of whether Hamist02 was the greatest player of all time.
| 1:39 |
: You certainly would inspire much writing.
| 1:40 |
: Matz or Nola next 3 years?
| 1:40 |
: Matz.

Easy answer, very little, then a ton in my contract year before cashing out as a free agent.
