Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 6/13/13
8:47 |
: I’ll be here in 13!
|
9:02 |
: Ok be nice to me today. I had two free hot dogs in the Oakland press box Tuesday and my stomach has been a nuclear wasteland since.
|
9:02 |
Still free. |
9:02 |
: I’m paying a price.
|
9:02 |
Come, little one and let me do what I can do for you |
9:02 |
Free Eno’s Stomach! |
9:03 |
: Something. Something Eno’s Stomach. Because I don’t want this.
|
9:03 |
Looks like Gallardo was consistently hitting 93 mph in his last start…you buying a possible turnaround to SP 2-3 status, or need to see more (not vs. MIA)? |
9:04 |
: Well velo is good but the problem is that he’s moved from the 4-seamer to the 2-seamer and that’s been bad for his K% and not good enough for his GB% to make it make sense. fantasy #3? maybe.
|
9:04 |
What do you think of this Kluber kid? Been pretty useful for fantasy. |
9:04 |
: Looks like Cwik will break him down Monday, but I like him some. He’s had homeritis and BABIPitty over much of his career, and from my twitter inquiries, the idea is that the cutter gets flat sometimes.
|
9:04 |
doesn’t matter, had hot dog |
9:04 |
: right now? never want another.
|
9:05 |
Thoughts on Parker vs Yankees today? |
9:05 |
: I started him in my leagues where I need innings or it’s a deep league. If it was shallow or I was over pace? Nah.
|
9:05 |
When is it Carter Capps time? |
9:05 |
: Very soon, it’s looking like.
|
9:05 |
Thoughts on Steve Staude’s post yesterday about forecasting strikeout rates? |
9:06 |
: Wrote them up on Getting Blanked today. I think it could be HUGE for daily fantasy, and of course for managers and their in-game strategy.
|
9:06 |
Just got offered Willingham for Nava in a 7×7 (OBP + total bases are extra cats) dynasty. Should I accept? |
9:06 |
: I would. I love Compliant Pork, as Jason Woj calls him, in OBP leagues.
|
9:06 |
Logan Morrison or Peter Bourjos ROS. OBP league. No particular need for speed or power, frankly need both. |
9:06 |
: Kinda think Bourjos’ hammy problems will affect his running game. Morrison.
|
9:07 |
is it difficult to run a website when consuming the subject matter of said website causes one to be less able to run a website? |
9:07 |
: No idea what you’re talking about.
|
9:07 |
Hello Eno, How do I look up old articles about players? There was an article written about Dom Brown and his home run distances. How do I find it? |
9:07 |
: If you put Dom Brown in the search box, there’s a link at the bottom of the pop-up results to ‘more blog results’ or the like.
|
9:07 |
In general, do you like having a DL or prospect spot in Dynasty leagues? |
9:07 |
: I always want more roster spots.
|
9:07 |
Desperate for catcher in AL only. Flowers, Norris, Avila or Iannetta? |
9:08 |
: Avila. Or Flowers. But Avila.
|
9:08 |
Reyes stopgap in 10-team w/ OPS: Aybar, Lowrie, Cozart or Franklin? |
9:08 |
: Reyes was running in SF, so it’s short term. Might as well try out Franklin.
|
9:08 |
If I were to trade machado what would be a good return? Or am I crazy for doing so |
9:08 |
: Can’t tell you who you’d get. Not crazy to trade him, his pop ups suggest he’s more of a .280 hitter.
|
9:08 |
Eno are you chatting from the toilet? Be honest. |
9:09 |
: This was posted before I told you what was going on, so Kevin must follow me on twitter, where the saga of the HOT DOGS THE DAMN HOT DOGS has been drawn out in detail.
|
9:09 |
What are you expecting from me once I make it to Queens? |
9:10 |
: I think more BB trouble than with Harvey, fewer Ks, but useful in most leagues. But not sure. Don’t look to hard at his Vegas numbers, that’s one of the worst parks in the minors.
|
9:10 |
chances that Springer and Singleton are called up sometime this year? |
9:10 |
: Good, considering how that team has been cycling through players. Might only be September.
|
9:10 |
More likely to keep it up all season? Colon, his division and his ballpark or Porcello, his curve and his terribly defense? |
9:11 |
: I think Colon won’t last for different reasons… He hit 95 on Tuesday… read between the dots.
|
9:11 |
What to make of Alex Gordon? Rankings say top 20ish OF, but stats and projections point to him being nothing special. Not much change in batted ball profile … more grounders, I guess. But looks like we’ve bought 2011 as a breakout when it may well be a career year. |
9:11 |
: Fewer steals means he’s more like Nick Markakis every day.
|
9:11 |
Hi Eno, thanks for the chat. Can you recommend streaming Marcum or E. Jax tomorrow, or should I pass? Thanks! |
9:12 |
: E Jax against that Mets lineup seems like a decent bet.
|
9:12 |
Is Mike Morse droppable in 10-team league w/ OPS? waiting forever for him to turn it around |
9:12 |
: he’s probably not a ten-teamer even if he gets it right, not now, not in that park.
|
9:12 |
I imagine you’re going to get a lot of beergraphs questions so I’ll just ask one, this one time. Firstly I love the site and content, keep up the good work. My one peeve, its hard to read, the font looks like its something my grandma would want, and I have to keep scrolling. Any chances you might make it a bit smaller? |
9:12 |
: noted. I have gotten some really positive feed back about the look too, though.
|
9:13 |
When do the Tigers finally pony up and sign a REAL closer? |
9:13 |
: Like Brian Wilson?
|
9:13 |
Harvey for McCutchen, OPS / QS league. Who wins? |
9:13 |
: I’ll take the hitter.
|
9:13 |
Eno, just offered Mike Stanton for Mark Trumbo in a league where I could keep Trumbo next year, but not Stanton (no keepers from the first four rounds of the draft). Do I take it? |
9:13 |
: Only reason not to is if you’re in a dogfight for HR and atop the league.
|
9:14 |
Staff of Strasburg, Bumgarner, Cain, Shields, Colon, Porcello = good enough in 10-team with K/9 and QS instead of wins |
9:14 |
: The front four are and the back two are replaceable.
|
9:14 |
Re: Wieters. Is this it? A third tier fantasy catcher? What happened to “God?” |
9:14 |
: Projections? MLEs?
|
9:14 |
Could use 1, maybe 2 as CI/Util options down the stretch in an OPS league: Mitch Moreland / Lance Berkman / Adam Lind rest of season? |
9:15 |
: I’m fairly bullish on Lind… Berkman too. Lind playing more, younger. Definitely Moreland… maybe Lind. The new walk rate changes things a bit, and the swing changes behind it have ‘stabilized.’
|
9:15 |
Does Harvey get lit up against the Cards tonight? I feel like his back problem is going to flare up and hes going to do terrible, followed by a DL stint. |
9:15 |
: These sorts of things are why I take the hitter.
|
9:15 |
I am strugg with Relief in a holds/saves league. CPerez Betancourt Pestano Brothers Rosenthall Melacon. Any advice on how to grab as potential closer? |
9:16 |
: You’ve already got it figured out. Look for gas and strikeouts behind a guy that doesn’t have gas and strikeouts.
|
9:16 |
Is Myers a must-stash even in 10-team? OPS counts |
9:16 |
: Not if BA counts too.
|
9:16 |
I’m liking BeerGraphs so far. Well done. A couple thoughts though. First, can you hyperlink the beer names on the Top 100 to the untappd page for the beer or some other profile page for the beer? Second, I strongly support the idea of a regional BAR. After a quick scan of leader board, I have access to a grand total of 1 of the beers. This saddens me. A regional leader board would be helpful as well. |
9:17 |
: The leaderboards should be sortable, with more information, shortly. And I’m working on a regional replacement level. I do want to link beer names somewhere. We’ll look into this.
|
9:18 |
Remember about 6 weeks ago when Anthony Rizzo wasn’t terrible? Ahh,those were the days. What’s the deal? |
9:18 |
: I don’t see nothing wrong with a little Anthony Rizzo.
|
9:18 |
Eno, nervous about Tom Wilhemsen. Has the league figured him out? |
9:18 |
: Something’s happening. Still getting whiffs, but the K rate is waay low. Capps is definitely interesting.
|
9:18 |
Erasmo Ramirez upside? |
9:20 |
: I think the projection systems are missing something here. Great whiff rate, great changeup, good control, good home park. Velo ain’t bad either. Maybe 3.5ish with a good whip and 7+k/9? Realistically, a guy you could start at home.
|
9:20 |
how do i handle dickey? there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when he has good and bad starts. |
9:20 |
: Read my interview with him today? I think it means he’s hurt. I would ‘unofficially DL’ him, put him on your bench for a while.
|
9:20 |
dynasty philosophy question: assuming your team is already in OK shape for this year, would you rather have a contribute-now mid ceiling guy (i.e. Justin Grimm) or a high-ceiling prospect (i.e. Jonathan Gray) with a pick in the first round of a minors reserve draft? |
9:21 |
: Gray. If it’s mostly for a bench slot, put upside on your bench. You could turn him into something better than Grimm from a non-contender the day after the draft.
|
9:21 |
Is Evan Gattis the 2014 opening day starter at catcher for ATL? Or is defense too much of a concern? |
9:21 |
: It kinda looks like they trust him. Not a lock, but I like it.
|
9:21 |
![]() Lucas Duda Weekly Update: 1 HR 2 RBI .214/.353…He seems to be getting over his quad injury and will be heating up for the summertime and the livings easy. #ShaveJuanPierresMustacheOff |
9:22 |
cashner seems to have velocity missing on all of his pitches. do you think this is a matter of him needing to build up strength or does he maybe not have what it takes to stick as a starter? |
9:22 |
: Doing what it takes to stick. I also think the changes in his pitches is about staying healthy. Doesn’t have the upside he used to, but maybe he can stick all year.
|
9:22 |
Is it time to panic yet? Just, generally? |
9:22 |
: I’ve been feeling fairly panic-y in general.
|
9:23 |
Montel Jordan- This is How We Do It. Has Adam Dunn readjusted back to his 2012 self? |
9:23 |
: Um, gross lyrics of the day guess, but funny. Certainly looks like it. The thing about swing changes stabilizing is that players can still say, oh, wait, this wasn’t working, and change again.
|
9:24 |
I’m leading the league in WAR. Does that make me a General? |
9:24 |
Blind guess on lyrics … ummm … Linda Ronstadt? |
9:24 |
Burning Spear/Marcus Garvey! |
9:25 |
: Boom, roasted, interluded.
|
9:25 |
Are you hoping that breweries will start sending you free beer to review on BeerGraphs? Was that your evil plan all along? |
9:25 |
: That wasn’t NOT my plan.
|
9:25 |
So… am I finally for real? |
9:25 |
: For real as a back-end fantasy option? Maybe. I wouldn’t stick through him through too many rough starts though.
|
9:25 |
Strasburg an ace or living in ACE ROS? |
9:25 |
: Ace for me.
|
9:25 |
Worried about Gerrit Cole’s “lack of strikeouts?” With his type of high octane stuff, the k’s will come… right? |
9:26 |
: Long term, you have to think he’ll figure out the sequencing to get more Ks, since he checks all the boxes.
|
9:26 |
How long do you wait while your speed is slumping? My SB guys (Reyes, Kinsler, Melky, Aoki, DeAza, Pagan) have all simultaneously hit the skids and I’m really thinking about blowing it all up. |
9:26 |
: Speed is down everywhere. At least Reyes should help. I think it’s a decent time to sell Melky. Maybe with DeAza for a more legitimate SB threat?
|
9:27 |
Best outfielder to sell: Puig, Stanton, Gomez, Chris Davis? |
9:27 |
: Puig. Hype pretty out of control right now. Adjustment probably coming.
|
9:27 |
has jon niese shown enough for me to start him at home at Metco without fear? Is he healthy again? |
9:27 |
: I’m a bit nervous about him. Never thought his stuff was top echelon. I’d still spot him.
|
9:27 |
Go away other Jordan |
9:28 |
: No more feuds!
|
9:28 |
The other day was take your daughter to work day. The Cubs had a fun time, played a little scrimmage against their daughters. Unfortunately they lost, 15-3. |
9:28 |
i had a hot dog in january that messed me up for 2 months. this is what getting old is, eno. now you know how r.a. dickey feels |
9:29 |
are you questioning the BioGenesis of Colon’s velocity? |
9:29 |
: Interlude! took a while.
|
9:29 |
The M’s have Ackley playing the OF in AAA and he is hitting the tar out of the ball. Do you think he’ll be called up by the Allstar game? |
9:29 |
: that team will do whatever it takes.
|
9:30 |
: I mean, their management will do whatever it takes to show that they’ve developed some interesting players.
|
9:30 |
Someone in my 16 team league dropped M. Montero, drop JPA for him? |
9:30 |
: I would yes.
|
9:30 |
Nobody wants the details from your saga involving toilets and hot dogs and stomachs resembling nuclear wastlands. |
9:30 |
: Wait, I take it back. I like the other Jordan better.
|
9:30 |
Personally feel like the Wheeler hype is just coattail riding from Harvey…most project Cole to be the better rookie starter this year. Do you agree? |
9:31 |
: That’s been the long-term view, but Cole took a step back this year (statistically) without the same kind of excuse as Wheeler (park).
|
9:31 |
should trade wright for machado? |
9:31 |
: No I wouldn’t do that.
|
9:31 |
Think Archer stays with the big league club? What’s his ceiling? |
9:32 |
: I’m a little worried about his third pitch. The changeup is important to a fasball/slider guy, and I’ve seen some okay ones, and some bad ones. We have to see what happens with Price of course, but Archer’s upside is complicated by that pitch.
|
9:32 |
What’s with Belt’s reverse splits (not that he’s horribad vs. RHP or anything)? Still SSS or can he be expected to keep it up? |
9:32 |
: Reverse platoon splits supposedly take the longest to stabilize, like over 1000 PAs.
|
9:32 |
Can Adam Jones keep up his good numbers with the lack of BBs? |
9:33 |
: BBs not correlated with batting average in any way, actually. It’s the ‘real’ baseball people that want BBs.
|
9:33 |
12 team 5×5 roto Segura for Strasburg and Fowler… who wins that trade…. is it close? |
9:33 |
: Depends a lot on who the Segura owner is going to slot into SS. Problem is, I only want Fowler in OBP leagues really. And yes, I think it’s close.
|
9:34 |
Take on Dodgers Dbacks brawl? Dodgers have been throwing at the DBacks all year, and Kennedy throws an offspeed pitch (albeit high) at Greinke. Does Mattingly really have a right to be that pissed off? A) his pitchers are constantly hitting Dbacks and B) HE SENT GREINKE OUT TO HIT! |
9:34 |
: I wish people wouldn’t throw at other people?
|
9:34 |
League requires CF, do I trade Matt Carpenter and DeJesus for Choo, if I want to free Rendon? OBP/points league. |
9:34 |
: Are you playing DJ? Then maybe. If not, Rendon is not someone you need to make trades to get into the lineup.
|
9:35 |
Hi Eno, so I accepted a trade yesterday. His Justin Verlander for my Bryce Harper and Mike Minor. I picked up Yasiel Puig a week and a half ago and I think he’ll be what I projected Harper to be. Minor’s good, but he’s no Verlander, who I think will heat up. My team is in 2nd out of 14 and his is 12th. What do you think of the deal? This now gives me Darvish, Verlander, Samardzija, Iwakuma, Colon, Cashner, Liriano for my SPs |
9:35 |
: Relying a bit much on a guy with very little MLB track record. An no MLB SBs.
|
9:35 |
How you feeling about Frasico Liriano? Time to cut bait? |
9:36 |
: I love Liriano! Perfect situation for him.
|
9:36 |
Hey you need data analyst types for beergraphs or are you all set on that front (i.e. should I email you about it)? Also, ballast point made its way to chicago and is as delicious as you have said. |
9:36 |
: Yes, more data analysts always welcome. There’s an email at the bottom of my intro post.
|
9:36 |
T/F: Ellbury hits above .280, scores more than 85 runs, AND steals more than 40 bases by season’s end (I’m trying to trade Puig for him) |
9:36 |
: True
|
9:36 |
What do you think the odds are that Ike is in Vegas for the rest of the season? |
9:37 |
: very low. His numbers will look great. People will wonder.
|
9:37 |
I can’t tell you how happy I was to see Hoponius Union make the Beergraphs top 25….Jack’s Abby is making incredible beers. I like the Cascadian Schwarzbier even better. |
9:37 |
The art of looking into Bartolo’s success = Colonoscopy |
9:37 |
Who is Mike Stanton? |
9:37 |
: This interlude was sponsored by a decent reliever that pitched for the Braves and Yankees in the late nineties.
|
9:38 |
Is R.A. Dickey as great to talk to as he seems? Far as I can tell he’s one of the coolest guys in ball |
9:38 |
: I think so. He was the first player to spot me, say hi, and make himself available to talk when he saw me. Was talking to another writer who called him an ‘operator’ though. Maybe I’m gullible. It almost doesn’t matter, because it’s fun to talk to him.
|
9:39 |
What is Gattis’ keeper value compared to guys like Zunino or D’Arnaud? |
9:39 |
: Gotta be lesser. The age thing matters here. Though it does seem like Gattis’ game is roto-suited, and that he’s proven himself at MLB level.
|
9:39 |
Time to put a fork in Valverde (I bet he tastes of smoked pork and syrup)? My league counts saves + holds so his value isn’t really that great…figured I’d take a flier b/c the Tigers are going to win so much, but can I drop him w/o regret? |
9:39 |
: Yeah I think he looks much worse than his numbers.
|
9:40 |
Is there a stat that shows the percentage of runners in scoring position and runners in general that a player leaves on base? I feel that a stat like that would be more helpful than just an RBI total and we could see exactly how much of driving in runs in random opportunity and how much is skill |
9:40 |
: I think there is a site that tracks RBI% or the like. Don’t think we do. For the most part, we ignore RBI. You can find out that skill by looking at his ‘clutch’ numbers, his contact rate, and his team’s offensive strength.
|
9:41 |
Keep hearing about this Sabermetrics approach that the Royals have been using with their new lineup. Besides moving Salvador Perez to the three hole, what exactly have they done? |
9:41 |
: Made a PR move.
|
9:41 |
Did you have a beer with the hot dogs? If not, that’s your problem. You need to balance out the nitrates with hops. Trust me, I’m a scientist. |
9:42 |
: dangit. the one time..
|
9:42 |
Taijuan Walker worth holding onto in a re-draft? |
9:42 |
: Feels like it’s all hands on deck, and Bonderman is a wonky arm to depend upon. Wait for a few Bondy stinkers, see if Walker’s name comes up. Hultzen might be more ready once he’s healthy, though.
|
9:42 |
Why all the talk of Ethier being a fit for the Mets. He is terrible and his contract is an albatross. If Sandy does that, he is officially the worst GM in baseball, it doesn’t matter if LA picks up the whole tab. |
9:43 |
: Hey I think the money that the Dodgers pick up is very important. Ethier has his flaws, but he’s a consistent 2-3 win player, and how many guys on the Mets can you say that about?
|
9:43 |
After reading Skorupa’s piece on Sano, is he worth stashing in a 10 team mix – 10 keepers since I’m already out of contention this year? |
9:44 |
: Definitely fits the high upside mantra. He could see some coffee in September, and force the team to discuss his role in 2014, which is what you’re looking for.
|
9:44 |
What’s your philosophy on trading hot prospects in keeper leagues? Fantasy experts are screaming to sell high on Puig, but I’d rather enjoy owning him for 5 years at good value than deal him to slightly increase my chances of winning this season. Thoughts? |
9:45 |
: Most of my ‘sell Puig’ comments are for redrafts. In keeper leagues, man, you found that guy, he’s killing it, and if he keeps killing it, isn’t that why you’re in a dynasty league?
|
9:45 |
THERE IS NOT ENOUGH LUCAS DUDA IN THIS CHAT ENO! |
9:45 |
: Depends on whom you ask.
|
9:45 |
I would like to thank Bill Nye the Science Guy for taking care of my classroom instruction today… and letting me partake in some enjoyable chattage. |
9:45 |
: We got a classroom update!
|
9:46 |
I used to go to this dim sum place every Sunday morning, and then this guy Barack Obama decided to go there and ruin everything, as post his visit the lines became prohibitively long. That’s how I feel about you and your chats now that you’re so popular, Eno. |
9:46 |
: I’m no POTUS.
|
9:46 |
You wrote about the Marlins outfield but didn’t make a final speculation on whether Juan Pierre will keep his full time job there all year or will be starting full time someone else. Thoughts? |
9:46 |
: My speculation is: he’ll be traded.
|
9:46 |
Thoughts on Trumer Pils? Sometimes simpler = better. |
9:47 |
: I’ll reach for it in a supermarket here in Cali, for sure. It’s utterly decent.
|
9:47 |
Jurickson Profar’s favorite TV show was Mr. Bean….vital info for your everyday lives |
9:47 |
Ejax should not be streamed ever until his ERA comes within 2 runs of his FIP. Damn that guy. |
9:47 |
![]() Bill Cosby has a present for you… |
9:48 |
: and, on queue, my stomach gurgled very very loudly.
|
9:48 |
I benched Straily yesterday against the Yanks and he goes out and wins. Go figure. |
9:49 |
: I like Straily’s secondary stuff, but worry about his fastball. Can’t wait to talk to him. Apparently he tried all sorts of different changeup grips before he found the one he liked. That convo will be epic, I hope. As for fantasy, with the iffy FB, I’ll sit him on the road in HR ballparks.
|
9:49 |
Scoresheet league, which side do you take: Tim Hudson and Carlos Quentin OR Cole Hamels and Logan Forsythe |
9:49 |
: Hamels side.
|
9:50 |
Has matt Cain finished paying the price to the DIPS gods? |
9:50 |
: The xFIP gods? We’ll see tonight, but I bet tonight’s game will be a nice one.
|
9:51 |
Nick Franklin fo real? OBP league. |
9:51 |
: The average is a little BABIPpy, but I’ll take the Steamer RoS rates over ZiPs.
|
9:51 |
i just want to say that i’m really glad razor is sticking to his Montel Jordan guessing plan |
9:52 |
: Every song, in his voice and persona, becomes funny. But today’s was fairly epic.
|
9:52 |
Eno I want your straight gut (since its not feeling well I have a odd trust of it today) on who to start today. 1st one to come to mind…JAMES LONEY OR RIZZO!? |
9:52 |
: Um. Dude.
|
9:52 |
You gotta try some of the Fort george brews from astoria oregon the vortex ipa will make top 100 for sure |
9:52 |
: We get our numbers from Untappd, so y’all have to go out and drink it and rate it.
|
9:52 |
Your best guess: Pineda will be in the rotation by ___ and be a top ___ pitcher from then on. |
9:53 |
: Mid July, 50.
|
9:53 |
I so would have gotten those lyrics like 10 years ago |
9:53 |
: No one remembers, old Marcus Garvey.
|
9:53 |
Bob Loblaw, if you stick around for these chats weekly you will be my new Assistant to the Assistant Regional Manager. |
9:53 |
re: Beergraphs and regional BAR. Would a regional BAR mean that easter IPAs, for example, would be on a different scale from those available in California? Or would you try to find beers from each region that rate similarly and lump them together for your baseline? |
9:54 |
: I’d just try to find a baseline/ replacement level that was set regionally.
|
9:54 |
Maybe you were right all along about Masterton |
9:54 |
: Well nothing changed in his pitching mix or velo, so it’s hard to say that he was a changed man.
|
9:54 |
Eno, if you could get Shields plus for Ryan Bruan in a keeper league where you can’t keep Braun past this year, whould you do it? |
9:55 |
: If the plus gives me some power or speed back in the OF, and I wasn’t in the top two, yes. Shields is a bit old though. Could look for a younger mix of players.
|
9:55 |
Eno, is time to start buying into Lyles – really only one bad start all year – 22 years old, increased velocity – is he tkaing the next step? |
9:56 |
: I wish there was a better whiff rate attached to that line. But with that ground ball rate, he could be back-end fantasy useful in all but the shallowest.
|
9:56 |
If you caught, say, Barry Bonds’ record breaking HR ball, and you saw Randy Jackson on the way out of the stadium, would you have him sign it? |
9:56 |
: ….
|
9:56 |
Aoki’s getting caught an awful lot this year. He may have lost a step and not really be a speed guy anymore … |
9:57 |
: He’s 31 and he’s been caught more than he’s been successful. This could be a true statement. No ‘working through a hammy issue’ this year or anything? No excuses?

Figaro…Figaro…Figaro. What to make of him? |
9:58 |
: Given his whiff rate, I’ll take the under on Steamers 8k/9 the rest of the way, but 95mph! With good control! And grounders! I need to watch a start.
|
9:59 |
i had a sonic chicago dog last night, im fine |
9:59 |
: You paid for it. You get what you pay for.
|
9:59 |
Where do you see Profar finally settling in, bit teamwise and positionwise? |
9:59 |
: Second base? I could see the team talking about keeping Kinsler heatlhy in the OF or something. Especially if Cruz gets Biogenisis/d.
|
10:00 |
Which Jordan is the one who always picks fights with Cameron in his chats? Is that Jordan with the class updates? |
10:00 |
: I’m going to say the Jordan that picks fights is the one that doesn’t care about my intestinal stress. The class update Jordan has always been all class, especially when making fun of his professor while in class.
|
10:01 |
WHy no love for Rendon. Kid was the “best hitter in that draft” and great in college. Fluke injuries, now he’s playing 2b. Why could he not be a top 5 guy at position next year? Same as Kipnis in the sense that, while diff skillsets, provide way above average stats. |
10:02 |
: I don’t think he has the same speed. In OBP leagues, he might push to the top half of your league, but in BA leagues, I’m unsure about his batting average. What’s his ISO going to be. His biggest sample at one level is 152 PAs, There’s just so little we know statistically.
|
10:02 |
folks need to stop hoarding their ludes |
10:02 |
: I know right.
|
10:03 |
I just started working Kansas City into my start-against rotation in FGTG for SP with Chicago (AL), Miami (of course), and Seattle. How long ago should I have done that? And by the way, for some reason Houston worries me, and not just at home. |
10:03 |
: Well Houston has the three true outcome thing that can burn an iffy starter with homeritis I guess. KC is one of the three best teams in not striking out! They don’t really do anything else well though.
|
10:03 |
Cashner’s upside may be down, but he still looks like a 10-teamer SP, right? With that home park? Especially QS leagues. |
10:04 |
: I don’t know why he’s not owned more. I’d own him there. But his ownership levels in Yahoo suggest most disagree.
|
10:04 |
any thoughts on the upcoming Beachy decision for the Braves? |
10:04 |
: I now think Teheran goes down. They have an innings cap excuse, and they’ll need him later anyway.
|

Machado looking like .290/15-20/100r/80rbi/10sb at 20. That’s elite. Next year – .290/20/100/100/10 even more. what’s his upside long term. |
10:05 |

: Not giving him that .290 until he stops hitting 15% IFFB. Sort the leaderboards for that stat among hitters. .. wait, I’ll do it: There’s not a .290 hitter on that first page, is there? |
10:06 |
: Maybe Scutaro and Pedroia with their .350ish BABIPs.
|
10:06 |
Lackey got roughed up will he ok ros? |
10:06 |
: Final mixed league pitcher okay.
|
10:06 |
Rickie Weeks should be set out to pasture….right? |
10:06 |
: nah, he’s just a strikeout guy with bad batting averages.
|
10:07 |
Hi Enos, love your stuff. Was offered Allen Craig for my Puig. There is so much variance on Craig’s value so I wanted to get your thoughts on Allen Craig ROS. Thx |
10:08 |
: .280/20/90-100? I think I’d actually stay in the Puig lotto ticket for that, but the line is right around there. Mostly because we haven’t seen Puig steal a base.
|
10:08 |
Mets tickets for fathers day are like $35+ for nosebleed seats. Instead of a full stadium of people buying concessions, it’s going to be half empty. I have a sad. |
10:08 |
Someone mentioned Carson moving to Paris in yesterday’s Dave Cameron chat, and he joked that Carson was starting BaguetteGraphs. That got me thinking that WineGraphs would be a great companion to BeerGraphs, but you would need to find an Oeno Sarris for that one. |

It’s lunchtime here on the East Coast. Can we please avoid posts regarding hot dogs, Colon, and movement? |
10:08 |
: Interluded.
|
10:08 |
Is it time to see what I can get for CJ Wilson? |
10:09 |
: yeah I don’t think he’s much better than this. Just traded Arenado and Wilson for J Weaver (who I don’t love) in a 12-teamer dynasty where I have Pablo and Wright and a full roster.
|
10:10 |
Do I drop Stralin Castro for Didi in a shallow points league? |
10:10 |
: No
|
10:10 |
Is Hafner droppable in 10 team AL-Only? |
10:10 |
: No
|
10:10 |
Kemp and Tommy Hunter for Evan Gattis…vetoable? |
10:10 |
: No
|
10:10 |
If you want to be bored, sit through 9 hours of lecture on real property with a lecturer that keeps making references to 80s and 90s music and unfortunately keeps singing songs as well. Cuz you know, when you hear Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogatvie,” you just naturally think of fee simple subject to condition subsequent, duh. |
10:11 |
Any concern about Garza? His velo is down a little bit. |
10:11 |
: Sure. He’s coming back from injury. And might be headed to the AL.
|
10:11 |
Pick 2 for the ROS: Lowrie, Simmons, Profar, Walker. Thanks Enzo! |
10:12 |
: That’s a new one. I’ll go with the old dudes: Walker and Lowrie. Assuming redraft.
|
10:13 |
“This interlude was sponsored by a decent reliever that pitched for the Braves and Yankees in the late nineties,” who was also one of many such pitchers assassinated by Joe Torre. |
10:13 |
Let us all not forget Mike Stanton’s key role on the ’97 Marlins |
10:13 |
I thought Mike Stanton was a catcher for the Yanks in the late nineties |
10:13 |
Not just a pitcher in the late 90’s. Stanton was pitching with the Reds in 2007 |
10:13 |
: I thought so. Was going to say early aughts, too. Late aughts!
|
10:13 |
Who would replace Valverde as closer? |
10:14 |
: Other? Not Benoit. Not Bruce. Not Al. No idea if B Wilson is healthy. Trade? K-Rod?
|
10:14 |
Would you sell high on Lowrie? Maybe I’m alone, but I think his success is legitimate |
10:14 |
: Problem is not the success, it’s the injuries from the past.
|
10:14 |
RE: Valverde, Leyland will keep giving him save chances won’t he? I mean it leyland and stats be damned Valverde is a closer |
10:14 |
: Not if the homers keep flying and the ERA balloons and then he blows saves and then he’s not a closer any more.
|
10:15 |
Sounds like the Royals have set up Sabermetrics to take the fall for them when they end up sucking. |
10:15 |
: “Not our fault.”
|
10:15 |
What would a Beer Analyst do for BeerGraphs precisely? I’m pretty good at drinking beer and trying a plethora of new varieties. |
10:15 |

|
10:15 |
Please say something about Mike Greenwell. |
10:15 |
: Something? Lame, I know.
|
10:15 |
ENO are you a tattoo guy or no? |
10:16 |
: no but I have a secret earring
|
10:16 |
Is Francoeur still in that lineup? If so the Royals aren’t using a Sabermetrics approach. |
10:16 |
: zing!
|
10:16 |
is giving up weaver for stanton too much. Also pestano was dropped do I pick him up? |
10:16 |
: Not too much. Depends on dropper. Perez sounds like he might come back soon, but it is a shoulder. I’m not a doctor, and definitely not HIS doctor.
|
10:16 |
Sandy Alderson vs. Ruben Amaro, Jr. Go. |
10:17 |
: Oh come on. You don’t like what Sandy’s done with the rotation? Ruin Tomorrow Junior is too short-sighted. If Sandy is too far-sighted, it probably had to do with the financial situation. He’s going to have 30-40 million to spend this offseason. Lets’ see what kind of position players he gets.
|
10:18 |
Is Cespedes injury-proness something to worry about? |
10:18 |
: Past time on the DL predicts future time on the DL for pitchers. Looks that way for hitters too.
|
10:18 |
Dan Haren was struggling at the mound, so the catcher walked out to have a talk with him. “I’ve figured out your problem,” he told the Dan. “You always lose control at the same point in every game.” “When is that?” asked Haren “Right after the national anthem.” replied the Catcher. HUZZZZZZZAAAAAH! |
10:18 |
Heyward seems to be rounding into form, but still no steals. Do you think he will get to 10 this year? |
10:18 |
: 10 I think he can manage.
|
10:18 |
Thanks for the chat, Eno! If the Royals decide they’re buyers at the deadline, which 2B or RF might be fits? Assuming Moustakas doesn’t get right, what about third base? |
10:18 |
: I don’t buy them as buyers.
|
10:19 |
I may be remembering wrong, but it seems like you had Jean Segura pretty low in your updated SS rankings. How do you value him right now? Top 5? |
10:20 |
: I wasn’t sure he could hit .300 or was more than a 30-SB guy true talent. I don’t buy the current power levels either. But, even with regression, I’ll admit he should be higher.
|
10:20 |
So Dillon Gee? |
10:20 |
: Terrible fastball that he throws high for strikes. 88 mph at the belt sometimes. Even at the letters, that’s 88. If those don’t turn into homers, he’s good. I’m still nervous.
|
10:20 |
Whats it gonna take for the Tigers to get Parnell? |
10:21 |
: Given the news about money coming, and the pitching on the way, I’m not sure the Mets will sell much.
|
10:21 |
Harvey pitched over 170 innings last year. He should get to 200 this year, barring any injuries, right? |
10:21 |
: Yes
|
10:21 |
You think Matt Garza is worth keeping in a 12 teamer with QS? |
10:21 |
: Yes (as in, rostering)
|
10:22 |
Profar have any fantasy value as a utility infielder when Kinsler returns? |
10:22 |
: Sure, I guess, but then you’re waiting for injuries.
|
10:22 |
traded my strasburg, heath bell, and aaron hill for headley and mccutchen. How did I do? Was worried about strasburg and hill injuries and I still have Sale, Weaver, Kimbrel, Grilli, and a solid pitching staff. |
10:23 |
: you got best hitter, deal is solid on value, if Weaver is your #2 I’m a bit nervous, but if you have a few #2s, you’re good, and Kimbrel actually turns Weaver into a good #2 anyway.
|
10:24 |
Eno-biwan: Help me. You’re my only hope. In a 6X6 league with Saves and Holds. Was punting on Saves to great results and now Jansen isn’t a “fit”. What sort of value should he have as the newly installed closer? Aim for someone like Marte? |
10:24 |
: Doubt you could get that much for a newly installed guy. Might have to wait a bit.
|
10:24 |
I had Firestone Walker’s Parabola double stout last night….very tasty despite the 13% ABV |
10:24 |
: Parabola is a big deal around here. Bit much for me.
|
10:24 |
Thoughts on Chris Davis, is he who Dennis Green thinks he is… |
10:24 |
: .275 with great power?
|
10:24 |
Is Yoenis Cespedes kinda the new old Nelson Cruz? |
10:24 |
: Oooh I like it.
|
10:25 |
When will Jim Henderson “the Puppeteer” get his job back? |
10:25 |
: When K-Rod gets his two saves for 300.
|
10:25 |
what can i expect from Chris Carpenter this season? |
10:26 |
: Not much. He wasn’t great if you watched him pitch last time he was pitching. Home park means he could be useful for spots.
|
10:26 |
Should a rotation of Sale,Samardijza,Fister,Miller,Parker be good? I stream Teheran,Cole,Wheeler(soon),Griffin,Ogando(DL) on the back end. |
10:26 |
: yes
|
10:26 |
sell high on cuddyer or keep him knowing he’ll still get alot of RBI’s despite the obvious regression coming? |
10:26 |
: sell high. seems likely he’ll get hurt again.
|

Everyone but you seems to love machado. are you just being the realist showing what could happen – because otherwise it’s “trout machado harper” as the new order of the MLB future stars. |
10:29 |
: I’m just looking at his bad batting averages in the minors, and two years of high IFFB. Too statty perhaps. And IFFB could be something he fixes. But it tells me that something about his swing plane is not completely right. Think about Votto, The Perfect Swing, not hitting a popup for complete years. I’m not a hater. I just think he’s a great defensive third baseman, but if we’re talking offensive games, I want Trout and Harper by a landslide.
|
10:30 |
but isn’t teheran going to pitch the same innings in AAA or MLB? |
10:30 |
: Nah, results don’t matter. Can go four, shut it down.
|
10:30 |
What can I do, personally, to ensure Mujica’s demise and catapult Rosenthal into the closer role for StL? |
10:30 |

Any concern about Stanton’s injury proneness this early into his career? Would you ever consider moving him in a dynasty league because of it? |
10:31 |
: A little, but you can’t move him now. Wait for breathless Stanton homer GIFs.
|
10:31 |

Do you foresee some innits limits on Harvey or S. Miller down the stretch? I have both of them and wondering if I should be proactive about it and try to move one of them |
10:32 |
: No on Harvey, yes on Miller. Not sure how they’ll handle it because they’ll be headed towards the postseason and will want him then too.
|
10:32 |

Am I wrong for being angry that the Mets drafted yet another HS guy? By the time Smith is ready for the Show, Wright will be close to 40. Why not draft a college hitter who might be ready to produce while we still have good, young, cheap pitching? Oh yeah, because Jeffy WIlpon wouldn’t want to pay them all at once, that’s why. |
10:36 |
: I don’t think they think like that in the draft room. Just, who is most exciting. Sometimes HS guys don’t take forever.

Who has the the best chance to be productive this season and who would you want long term out of Castellanos, Yelich, Hamilton, or Singleton? |
10:38 |
: long term… they’re all flawed. Could actually be Castellanos, he’s the only one with a good combo of power and lowish K%. yelich and singleton could be big whiffers. Hamilton won’t excite with the bat, but could Juan Pierre-plus it up. Fantasy? Hamilton for career. Real life? Could be him if plus CF defender, which i think he can manage. Prospectors might say yelich in real life, but I worry about BA. This year, could be Castellanos with Dirks stinking.
