He’s playing a good amount by DHing on his non-catching days and he’s been hitting 3rd in the lineup, but he’s not hitting for power and not contributing much in R/RBI. On the latest pod you guys said he’s had negative value to date. Would you drop him for Beef Castillo’s in Coors this weekend?

Eno Sarris: I think he’ll finish at .265/14 or so, basically what he did last year, walk some more going forward. That describes like the middle third of catchers, so he’s fungible in mixed leagues.

Eno Sarris: Reverse platoon splits take forever to be stable, and righties see more righties in the minors, so it’s not even that uncommon at first. He’ll stabilize I think.

Eno Sarris: In a redraft, it’s okay. There’s always the chance Jose goes down I guess. But Beltre is nice. Can always try to wait a second or ask for a sweetener since he’s hurt.

Quirks: Besides having an annoying name to type, Jeff Samardzija is annoying pitcher to follow. His outings seem to have a lot of variance week to week.

Eno Sarris: Probably command. It comes and goes with him.

Slew: Is Trevor Bauer good now (different pitch mix, more 2 seamers) or is this a SSS mirage?

Eno Sarris: He’s throwing that front door sinker more now. I think that’s a big deal. Also commanding it all around more.

Eno Sarris: Half a pitcher right now. Need to see more before I play him on the road. Good velo and three pitches, though. Worried his delivery won’t work out of the stretch.

Raisel Iglesias: Picked him up today. Interested to see where he ends up. I’m good with starter or reliever! Quality arm is a quality arm

Eno Sarris: Lots of moving parts in the delivery. Might happen again.

Matt: I’ve got Aaron Sanchez, Pomeranz, Duffy, Paxton, Tillman (among others) and just picked up Bauer in a 10 team redraft. Rank them please? Which one or two would you try to trade (either alone or as a package)?

Eno Sarris: I’d try to package Pomeranz and Duffy. Great when in, and I usually don’t like to think too much about injury with pitchers because it hurts my brain and heart, but those guys…

Erik: Do players that reach the majors younger also peak younger?

Eno Sarris: This seems possible, and might explain some of the new aging curves, which show that players peak earlier recently. Debut age and average age going down. Not sure exactly why this is, but let me try something out:

Eno Sarris: baseball is 1/2 athleticism and 1/2 learned skill. We know sprinters peak super early, so athleticism might peak earlier than 25/26 even. If you debut earlier, you learn skills earlier, peak earlier, and then it’s all just losing athleticism, i.e. ‘getting older.’

The Cincinnati Kid: Is ISO the very first stat you look at from Minor Leaguers for future success?

Eno Sarris: Actually I often look at that plus K% in tandem.

Quirks: While there is talk Raisel Iglesias may get some closing opportunities, is he good enough against lefty handed swingers to succeed in that role if given a chance ?

Eno Sarris: I always thought his floor was real high, and a .250/.330/.400 shortstop with above average defense, to plus, is still really nice. Will he do more? I see enough hope in his previous adjustments, but he does need to be a little more selective, IMO.

Eno Sarris: .255/.330/.430

Erik: Should pitchers with one excellent offspeed pitch throw and an otherwise unremarkable repertoire throw that pitch as often as most pitchers throw their fastballs? Or does that lead to injury or a loss of effectiveness?

Eno Sarris: You can’t always just throw a pitch more often if it’s good because there’s the lack of surprise / change of speeds. Pitchers are actually decent at finding that equilibrium on their own, though Shoemaker’s gambit is interesting in this regard. Some of the risk of a cutter is that it’s a slider that people throw over and over again and that affects fastball velocity negatively. So the answer? Yes.

Eno Sarris: I think we’d need times to first or 40 times. Which… we’re pretty close to getting. We just need to wait ten years to age them lol.

JalapEno: where can i see how a player’s WAR has lined up with his salary for the year? is there a way to see that Player X has underperformed his contract by X%?

Eno Sarris: You like Wits, but there are wit pale ales like Gumballhead (Victory) could see if you like to cross over. I would try some Saisons (Saison Dupont) and see if you like all Belgians (try Allegash White). You might even like sours (expensive, but Almanac is around for $11 or so a 12-oz).

Eno Sarris: I’d only look at moves on the extreme. Like AJ Pierzynski to Tyler Flowers, I think that was pretty extreme.

Jung-Ho Kang’s Knowing Stare: Highlights from New England vacation/beer tour… while I tried to hit many of the “big” names from beergraphs, Alchemist, Lawson’s, and Farmstead distribution is SO limited… not even in southern Vermont. While Allagash was super cool (and way into Brets) our best experiences were with small brewers, like Northshire in Bennington VT and Cape Cod in Hyannis, MA

njs: i was looking at archie bradley’s changeup effectiveness stats on FGs and there are three stats all labelled “changeup runs above average” … one is the same as last year (-.2), one is better (-.72 vs -1.05), and the last is worse (-1.3 vs -1.0). can you explain whats going on to me? i’m confused (i read a 538 article saying his changeup was top 5 in improvement over last year but the FGs stuff seems to tell a different story). thanks.

Eno Sarris: Those values are just about results. The 538 piece was about movement. Results based on what happened just when that pitch was put in play or strike/ball… those are a little problematic because we don’t know what pitch came before.

Kevin Gausman: Are my owners justified in moving on from me in twelve team mixed leagues?

Eno Sarris: I’m getting this feeling from Eovaldi and him that their fastballs are just too hittable and straight, and even hiding their fastballs only makes them usable instead of featured starters.

Local beer brewing company, Sweetwater Brewery, is out tens of thousands of beers after two trailers were stolen from their facility in NW Atlanta early Tuesday morning.

The brewery said the trailers were later found separated; one on Camp Creek Parkway, and the other on Southwoods Parkway.

Both trailers were found empty of a total of 78,000 beer bottles. The varieties that were taken were: 420, IPA, Goin Coastal IPA and Take Two Pils.
