Everyone seems to be expecting the A’s to be big time sellers, but I don’t see it that way. They’re 8-2 in the past 10, and have closed the gap to 9 games. If any team knows what it’s like to make crazy runs and make the playoffs, it’s the A’s, so why are people so convinced that Zobrist/Clippard/etc. will be dealt in the near future?

Eno Sarris: I think they’ll go all the way to August just in case. The league dove for the middle and there are only two true sellers in my mind.

So aren’t all trades really context dependent? How do you answer trade questions? I was going to comment on your Trout trade, but then I realized I really know nothing about the otteneu format.

Eno Sarris: They are even more context dependent than league settings and format. Like, in my league, there were three deals on the table because only three sellers. I had a shallow deal built on Addison Russell, a shallow deal built on Gallo, and then this deeper league with (admittedly) maybe not a guy as good as those two.

Do you think Keuchel has the ability to maintain his weak contact ways? As a grounball pitcher, shouldn’t he have a somewhat higher babip than most, as in one that is not his current .229? Do you expect him to be closer to the 2014 or 2015 version of himself ROS? Also, what’s the meaning of life?

Eno Sarris: SIERA research found that the elite ground ballers actually have plus BABIPs — maybe because the defense is on their toes — and I believe there is a little HR/FB risk sometimes, but I haven’t been able to pinpoint it in my research. I think he could manage a .260-.270 BABIP.

Eno Sarris: Ellsbury vs Moncada is the decision. I think it’s a bit early for this. Moncada is 20 and in A-ball.

Eno Sarris: Worth studying if it was actually an option. It is much friendlier during the day because it’s much warmer.

Eno Sarris: Other than a .312 lifetime BABIP, there just isn’t something here that’s pointing to his supposed plus hit tool. The defense has improved but he’s still below replacement in all three years in the league… Yeah his ceiling has come down.

Not sure if you mentioned this already but did you notice Montgomery went to his cutter more in his last start than he had been his previous ones? His fastball isn’t very good, but the cutter looks above average.

Eno Sarris: Nice, good eye. Yeah he’s a bit of a bad fastball guy, but it’s a little easier for lefties to be good with lower velocity fastballs. If he’s cutter, sinker, change, curve, then he’s got four average or better pitches. AL-only hold.

Eno Sarris: Always DH, Keep As Is, No DH. But the first two much closer. Everytime I see a pitcher bat I think nah we don’t need this. And we already have defensive specialists and pinch runners and pinch hitters, so the specialization of the game has already happened. Plus most minor league pitchers don’t bat. And colleges even using it. I think it’s just going to be all DH soon, and I think interleague and roster construction in-season is made more difficult by the Keep As Is. That’s ranked second because difficult also means interesting.

Eno Sarris: Talked to him about and it was so simple that maybe it’s possible. He just said he’s spitting on the outside corner, swinging less. It’s amazing how good that’s for him. I’d give him a .275/.280 type RoS batting average.

Seems like the winning strategy in Daily Fantasy is to pick the stack that no one else picks and hope it scores 10 runs. But is today’s ARI-COL De La Rosa-fest so sure to result in a ton of runs that I’m a fool for passing on players involved in it?

Eno Sarris: That’s the way to win the big ones, boom or bust. I think if I played DFS I would have two strategies. Mixed lineups to win a few 50/50s to make sure I keep my money slowly building, and then some crazy stacks in the big tourneys for the big money.

Eno Sarris: I’d say Betances but he’s such a great pitcher that you have to keep him even with Miller on the mend. Britton’s new K rate makes him untradable. I might look at what Tolleson could get me.

How do you value positional flexibility when trading? I was thinking of trading Semien but moving him between 2B and SS has been useful and I don’t know if losing a game from my SS or 2B every week or so matters a lot.

Eno Sarris: I don’t worry so much about backups and extra games. The wire is there for backups, and the extra games aren’t like in basketball, they’re fairly infrequent.

Hard hit % not correlated with LD%, but iirc LD% is correlated with BABIP. Does that mean hard hit % and BABIP don’t have a connection? If so, how can that be?

Long-term still think he can get back some of what he’s lost, but he may end up at a different position, and we may not ever see 20+ steals again. Hanley got nailed on the hand by a line drive yesterday on a hit-and-run play (and therefore is out of the lineup today). Hanley didn’t even turn his head to try and find the ball after it was hit. Is that just super unluckiness or is it his responsibility to locate the ball while running and dodge it if needed?

I asked Szym on Monday if Chaz Roe’s slider does actually have unique motion to it. It appears totally different than others by the infallible eye test. Is it in fact different??

Eno Sarris: yeah it looks like Kluber’s slider, but it’s not as extreme. Kluber’s breaking ball has the drop of a curve and the sweep of a cutter, and roe’s does that a bit too.
