Eno Sarris: I bet there’s actually a clearly best player, but it’s over my paygrade to figure out which one.

Oliver: Thoughts on Taillons debut/ what would you grade it? Obviously hang a couple curves but only the Ty Kelly one killed him and putting more people away with two strikes would have been nice. B/B+ sound about right?

Eno Sarris: The curve was silly when he commanded it. You can see the upside. I’d like to put him on some benches.

Ethan: Do you think Keuchel can turn things around? He’ll have a game where things look good and then the next time out he’ll be a disaster.

Eno Sarris: The two guys at the bottom of the zone ratings last year are struggling, and I’m not sure that’s an accident. Can your stuff survive when you throw it in the zone? Not sure Keuchel’s can.

Jim: What would you expect a full-season line from Devon Travis to look like? 275, 10/10?

Eno Sarris: Right now, yes. But a healthy shoulder could up that power number in another year.

Jon: I have Leonys Martin and DeSclafani ready to activate tomorrow, but I would need to drop two pitchers to make room for both: Liriano, Eovaldi, Nelson, Gausman, Eduardo Rodriguez, Neris all possibilities.Make some moves? Wait? This is a keep-18 league and I am going for it this year.

Eno Sarris: Assuming saves league, Neris for Martin makes some sense. I might want to see some of DeScla on my bench before I activate him.

Eno Sarris: Good, bad, and meh. I’m working on passing because I often take the ball at the top of the key to draw their big man out of the paint.

Eno Sarris: Speaking of in-zone stuff, his change has the best in-zone whiff rate in baseball, meaning he can throw it and get a strike, called or swinging, which is boss.

jeff: what about Pineda and Hellickson dont you like ROS that would exclude them from being top 20 pitchers? K-bb% both top 12 and both are top 10 in SwSTR% and O-Swing%. Pineda is up a few ticks on the fastball as well.

Eno Sarris: Pineda was still top 40 if I remember, and I like the changes he’s made recently to his arm slot. No problems with him. I don’t believe in Hellickson. Added a cutter, fine, but it’s a bad cutter. Which makes it a bad cutter, a bad curve, a meh fastball and a plus change. Eh.

carl: How good will Chase Anderson and Zach Davies be? I have them filling out the backend of my rotation and I’m a little worried.

Eno Sarris: I don’t believe in Davies, but Chase is showing me something. More changeups, which is a plus pitch, and a new cutter/slider if I remember right.

Jon: When does your craft beer ballpark book release? What did you find about PNC Park?

Eno Sarris: Soon, and Pittsburgh chapter is healthy. (Miami is not.)

Eno Sarris: I see more power coming, and I like some of the incremental increases in his game, but sure, if he’s getting expensive, your other options are better.

Eno Sarris: Might be one of the most frustrating moments.

JR: Are some pitchers able to outperform their FIP over time? And if so, what allows them to do this?

Eno Sarris: The holy grail is sustainable soft contact, but I think this happens a ton less than people think it does. A lesser thing is manipulating success rates with runners on base by walking players more and allowing fewer runs into play. This happens more than people think.

Eno Sarris: Just a streaky hitter with power. Should be able to manage .250/25 this year.

Eno Sarris: Looks like the shift is really getting to McCann. Sub .240 BABIP for three years now. Yeah I guess so.

Eno Sarris: Super high variance but there’s still a chance it’s aces.

CubsNerd: You agree that Duffy can be a top 50 guy going forward?

Eno Sarris: Eh. Before this year, he never had a pitch grade as above average by grounders or whiffs. Suddenly he’s throwing 97s because he was a reliever before. Is that velocity going to hold? I’m very skeptical. I’d move him to about 70 now because he is a little different, but I think he’ll regress.

Eno Sarris: He’s older than people think because of his back story, so there’s some chance he doesn’t have great upside, but he should be able to do something that would look like .285/20/10 over a full season.

Fun fact: They don’t allow their employees to go from funkatorium to their other brewery house across the street until they’ve showered. (Something about the crazy brettamycin yeast that will colonize everything it approaches, which would ruin their non-sours across the street.)
