11:44 |
Eno Sarris: see you at the top of the hour!
11:59 |
Eno Sarris: lyrics o day, will be easy for some, so let’s all not google it.
Oh, Elizabeth, don’t keep me guessin’, I opened up the door and saw you undressin’. The words came out, one after another.
11:59 |
Comment From bdhudsonLeast favorite ballpark?
12:00 |
Eno Sarris: Could be Anaheim, if you’ve been following along on Twitter. Lego/hospital ribbed plastic floors, strip mall food stands with stickers for signs, bad beer, bad food, fake rocks in center field. o.Co gave me food poisoning and has food problems, but at least you can find a Lagunitas anywhere in stadium.
12:00 |
Eno Sarris: (Shea and Fulton County Stadium, and Candlestick were all horrid)
12:01 |
Comment From jeffMike Napoli droppable in 10-team? Gattis, Ramos, Martin, Chooch available
12:01 |
Eno Sarris: I still like him. Ten-teamers make you be more cut-throat, though, and Martin’s not terrible, especially if you could use a bit more speed. I’ll still take Napoli, all things equal.
12:01 |
Comment From juan pierres mustachelet us all give thanks to the baseball gods for blessing us with an abundance of day games this week. also to my boss, for taking the week off. truly, it is a wonderful time to be alive.
12:01 |
Comment From MilhousePts league where wins are very valuable. Should I be trying to deal Harvey now before the playoffs? He’d probably e a keeper of mine…
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: 200 inning cap puts him, what, two starts short of a full season? That’s worth keeping him.
12:02 |
Comment From Guestjust d’Arnaud it
12:02 |
Comment From Guestd’Arnaud ya know it, it’s Eno Thursday again!
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: Notice the little d, which is style guide correct. /Interluded
12:02 |
Comment From tomI like EY Jr. over Villar and Bonifacio for steals ROS because of definite playing time. You agree?
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: Yes. Well Villar could start the rest of the way, but he could hit .210 too.
12:02 |
Comment From EffyROS: Kendrys, LaRoche, Ike, Lind – right order?
12:03 |
Eno Sarris: In a batting average league, yes. Ike moves up a spot, or even two, in OBP.
12:03 |
Comment From juan pierres mustachei want to call TDA the Fourth Musketeer. i don’t especially mind if no one else does, really
12:03 |
Eno Sarris: Just because of the apostrophe, right?
12:03 |
Comment From bdhudsonYour interviews have been awesome lately, hope they’re as much fun to write as they are interesting to read.
12:03 |
Eno Sarris: Phew, I was hoping they weren’t starting to get stale. Trying to go at each one with slightly different angles.
12:04 |
Comment From KrisWhy does Jason Heyward have such bad luck?
12:04 |
Eno Sarris: This year. Saving it all up for next year. I know it doesn’t work that way.
12:04 |
Comment From GuestI am in the h2h playoffs (2 week mathcups ftw) and now have 1 more closer than I can actuallly play w/ Betancourt’s return from the DL. Given his blowup last night and Ziegler’s recent struggles who is the guy to kick to the curb for a 2 Start SP? (Or should I just hold one on my bench and not risk fortifying a playoff opponent in saves)
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: Yikes. Ziegler’s problem is inability to get lefties out and improving Putz. But his surface stats look great. Betancourt’s peripherals are no better, and Brothers was good. You’re in the playoffs. All hands on deck. You can drop Betancourt imo. He’s averaging less than 90 on the fastball, worse since he came back.
12:05 |
Comment From FrankEno! Matt Moore said his elbow hurts when he throws his change … should we be concerned about Shields and Hammels and other changeuppitchers too?
12:06 |
Eno Sarris: Supposedly pronation (the changeup makes your elbow go ‘in’ not ‘out’) is better for your elbow. Most teams and pitchers I’ve talked to think the changeup is the healthiest pitch. Moore might just have an elbow problem.
12:06 |
Eno Sarris: FWIW, he doesn’t have the walk rate or mechanics of a Beane guy, who likes strike throwers because they stay healthier.
12:06 |
Comment From WoodsWhat do you think of Alex Torres as a possible keeper? He’s put up good numbers in middle relief, but hasn’t gotten close to a late inning role, and Tampa already has starting depth.
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: I think he’s too far from a regular role.
12:07 |
Comment From KrisWhat is up with Ian Kennedy? Blown up by the Mets @ SD then dominate the Pirates?
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: Gotta be careful with him. Better in H2H as a bench guy. Still would start him in 50+%, so that makes him a bit more than a streamer to me.
12:07 |
Comment From dudeI delved into the world of Eric Hosmer and I came out grounded.
12:07 |
Comment From MartyEno, Eno can’t you see, sometimes your stats just hypnotize me.
12:08 |
Comment From bdhudsonThis is the 2nd year of Pujol’s contract. That is all.
12:08 |
Eno Sarris: Solid early lude.
12:08 |
Comment From Dr. MetDamnit I realized I just sent in a bunch of questions as guest… best beer for a cold / sore throat?
12:08 |
Eno Sarris: Ginger tea. (I abstain when sick)
12:09 |
Comment From KrisAny guys to target, either coming off DL or called up late, to prepare myself for the inevitable shutdown of Jose Fernandez?
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: September starting pitchers are almost never hot prospects. Those guys are hitting innings limits and might be an asset as SP-eligible relievers. We’ll have a piece on that soon.
12:09 |
Comment From JojoHeyward 🙁 . Choo or Holliday ROS to pick up the slack?
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: Choo more likely to steal some bases.
12:09 |
Comment From MartyWhat will mlb’s reaction be when ARod surpasses Mays in HRs?
12:10 |
Eno Sarris: Announcement on the scoreboard, some sort of muted congratulations with a backhanded compliment from Selig. “What a great player to be mentioned with. Willie Mays did it all.”
12:10 |
Comment From GuestEno, I’ve been gone far too long. My fantasy baseball managing has struggled. My beer drinking has struggled. Life has been a struggle. Well, maybe not life in general, but you get the point. Shower me with your knowledge.
12:10 |
Eno Sarris: Beer showers get sticky.
12:11 |
Comment From JordanWow, terrible. Can’t even explain correctly that I forget to include my name.
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: What are they teaching you in class.
12:11 |
Comment From Dead McCann WalkingJ-Hey dilemma: I’m in 2nd in a 10team, 6×4 H2H league, 6 team playoff. Players must be rostered all season to keep for next. Currently Matt Moore is in my lone DL slot. I can keep both Moore & JHey. Do I ride it out with both guys or drop one to keep pushing forward? Current OF includes Stanton, D Brown, Marte & Leonys Martin, thanks!
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: How many keepers you got? Moore’s elbow barking, and I go position player heavy with my keepers. He could be the dropper.
12:11 |
Comment From ChaseBetter stash? Villar for steals, Putz for saves? Need steals most in roto league.
12:12 |
Eno Sarris: Villar. Especially if H2H, once your batting average is set either way, you can play him late in week for steals.
12:12 |
Comment From TravisHow big a blow is Heyward’s injury for the Braves in the playoffs? He should be back by then, but I can’t see him immediately being the player that he’s been for the last month.
12:12 |
Eno Sarris: He came back pretty well from the last injury.
12:12 |
Comment From juan pierres mustachesmoked porters. weird. enjoyed a 4oz tasting glass, not sure I’d want more.
12:13 |
Eno Sarris: Oh! I agree! BUT. I just had Stone’s Smoked *Vanilla* Porter, and the vanilla sweetness made it really work.
12:13 |
Comment From Joe MamaDrop Sandoval with the lingering back issue for Aramis or Middlebrooks?
12:14 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll take Aramis of this crew. Third time I’ve seen this three put together. People are dropping Pablo now huh? I know walk year stuff isn’t statistical and crap, but Pablo has said he wants to eat what he wants to until 28 and then get in shape. And so he’s admitted to a bit of a motivation problem. And he’s in walk year next year.
12:14 |
Comment From Eastern NCAm I an idiot for believing in Starlin Castro as a keeper? Would you even consider him over Wil Myers? I mean, track record, right?
12:15 |
Eno Sarris: Yes, but if you in ten- or twelve-team league, it’s possible to over-rate his position value. .280/10/25 seems to be the baseline, and Myers is going to clobber that, even if his batting average drops back to .275 or so.
12:15 |
Comment From TravisIs Kimbrel now the absolute best closer in baseball? Or is it still 1A and 1B with Chapman?
12:15 |
Eno Sarris: and 1C with Jansen. Have you seen his K-BB?
12:15 |
Comment From DaveFranklin, Miller, or Dozier ROS? Castro is also available but eh
12:16 |
Eno Sarris: In this group, it’s still Castro for me. If you don’t wanna… Dozier has been doing things, but why is his career BABIP so low? I don’t get it. All three of those guys are probably back of envelope .275/15/15 types. If I remember right, Dozier getting caught a bit, but trying for more steals than other two. Might be him.
12:16 |
Comment From ShawnCould Jordan Schafer be a legitimate above replacement leadoff hitter and left fielder ROS? He should get a boost from his defense and onbase skills.
12:17 |
Eno Sarris: The strikeout rate is high. But I’ve seen some inklings of a better approach. Hard to make speed/defense work at above RL in corner OF without at third skill though.
12:17 |
Comment From CochiseWhat do you make of ichiro’s 4,000th hit?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: I love the NPB. I don’t think we can combine the two, unless we want Sadaharu Oh to be the homer champ. Maybe we do.
12:18 |
Comment From MarkLyrics of the day:
I could drop until I touch the sinister side
Visit all attractions flippin’ mass genoicide
Still you leave me rotting on this rock all alone
It’s my fault for knowing not what I should have known
How does it feel to have no idea what the lyrics are Eno? HOW DOES IT FEEL?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: Hold on, let me google them.
12:18 |
Comment From JeremyYoung minors roster in a dynasty league question: Rather have Giolito or Mondesi?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: Position player.
12:18 |
Comment From Not Eno SarrisJJ Putz – will he get closer role this year?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: I still think so. Got the last save, but it didn’t count.
12:19 |
Comment From DaveDo you like stouts? What are your favorites?
12:19 |
Eno Sarris: Like don’t love, but love love Speedway Stout. and Left Hand Milk Stout. Kinda like the sweet stouts.
12:19 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggyis Lance Lynn any better than a matchups play at this point? His 2nd half swoon from last season has me dreading more 2.00+ whip outings like his last one
12:19 |
Eno Sarris: I’d start him every start at home. Plus ones against weaker offenses or in pitcher’s parks on road. So that’s 75% plus.
12:20 |
Comment From BirdAlex Wood has been awfully impressive starting. The question has been asked in numerous chats and a lot of you guys still think he will end up in the bullpen, but there has to be a good chance he sticks in the rotation barring injury right?
12:20 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah the reason for the bullpen thing is not really stuff but that crazy delivery. And people thought Sale would end up in bullpen for same reason. I think he’ll start. And start. And get hurt. And start again.
12:20 |
Comment From @TheREALMarthaStewartAJ Griffin isn’t going to stop giving up homers, is he? Why’s he being a big jerk?
12:21 |
Eno Sarris: It’s what happens when a hitter correctly guesses on the big hook and knows what to do with it.
12:21 |
Comment From Hobbesthoughts on brandon belt?
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: Belt changed his grip and that makes me happy. Word was, he didn’t want to do it. Now he has. I think he could still be a .270/.375/.480+ 1B, with something like 20/5 in HR/SB. That’s pretty good.
12:22 |
Comment From DaveI miss Charlie Manuel 🙁
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: Cholly got screwed. He didn’t sign all those crappy players.
12:22 |
Comment From MartyBrought flower power on vacation per your Rec. great call

12:22 |
Comment From Travis dArnaudMan, do I love to walk, right?
12:23 |
Comment From DaveWhat resources would you recommend for the beginning craft beer drinker?
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: Me. Tell me where you live and what your favorite beers so far have been.
12:23 |
Comment From dudeMets signed dice-k. Oh boy.
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: So. Slow. But you know, we Mets fans have dealt with Mike Pelfrey, we can do this.
12:24 |
Comment From MikeWade Miley or Medlen worthy of stash ROS or stream only? Would have to drop closer stash (Putz, Rosenthal, Jim J/Tommy Hunter).
12:25 |
Eno Sarris: Not Miley. That’s a lot of non-closers to be holding. Muijca says he’s going to pitch through it… Dunno. Putz?
12:25 |
Eno Sarris: (Oh I like Medlen)
12:25 |
Comment From Goat
This cat has JBats, Heyward and Trout on her fantasy team- it's been some week…
12:25 |
Comment From RyanEno, how much does a pitcher’s hands affect his repertoire? I mean, if he has big/small palms, long/short fingers, or if he has any fingers out of whack on length, curved, etc.
12:26 |
Eno Sarris: This is a great question. Alfonseca shoulda had a six-finger changeup. But I know that Samardzija has HUGE hands, and so he can split-finger. Who’d I talk to that couldn’t do it with his hands… Masterson? Someone showed me he couldn’t even really do a split-finger.
12:26 |
Comment From MapEno I’m at an optometrist office they are doing weird tests and I’m scared but
12:26 |
Eno Sarris: OH NO WHAT HAPPENED PLEASE NO

12:26 |
Comment From Fat TonyYou have 24 hours to give us our money. And to show you we’re serious… you have 12 hours.

Comment From Swing and a Miss PuiggyDanny Farquhar last 30 days: 18ip, 8h, 4BB, 29K, 2ER. Wow….chances he can keep this up and join the really elite RP?
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: He went from side arm to over the top and gained five MPH. Has three pitches. Love him. /Farquhard
12:27 |
Comment From Gila MonsterShy do people automatically assume guys like Baustista or Davis used PEDs? I mean guys in the old days hit a bunch of homers, why can’t bigger, better trained, better science mean it.is.going to be morr common for guys to hit 40 or 50 Homers
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: This is the world we live in.
12:28 |
Comment From RotoLandoI heard these awful rumors that Lucas Duda drinks milk from the jug, talks during movies, and gives Canadian coins back for change. This has to be another Lucas Duda, right?
12:28 |
Eno Sarris: Someone is going to get mad at you.
12:28 |
Comment From bdhudsonWill the Astros, Marlins, or Brewers make the playoffs before the Angels do?
12:28 |
Eno Sarris: They have money. Need pitching. They could make it work. I’ll Brewers of that crew though, actually.
12:28 |
Comment From JohnRoy Halladay. Do anything for you the last month?
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: I found that pitchers of his age that went on DL for shoulder issues averaged 51 more IP over the rest of their careers, and a ton of that was Tim Wakefield, who shouldn’t count.
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: Also this is Ted LIlly relevant, just to head off the millions of Ted Lilly questions that I’m sure are coming as I scroll up.
12:29 |
Comment From juan pierres mustachethe best beer for a sore throat is whiskey with honey and lemon. you can heat it up too.
12:29 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggyinteresting beers tried recently: Great Divide Oak Aged IPA (not quite as complex/rich as expected but solid). Lagunitas WILD sumpin’ sumpin’ (really good)

12:30 |
Comment From Johnwhat league is Jojo in that choo and holliday are available?
12:30 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe he’s talking trade.
12:30 |
Comment From ChrisSup Eno have you tried the Gotterdammerung 17th anni from Stone, damn its good. Should i be starting Cobb over Shields or Gio?
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: I haven’t heard good things about the regular one but I really loved the Grapefruit Zest version I had at Stone Fest this weekend. Start Cobb over Gio for wins on weeks where Cobb is home or has good matchups. You could also take Cobb over Gio in two-start weeks.
12:31 |
Comment From Adam WarrrenIchiro or Khris Davis ROS?
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: Davis. I think he could be a true-talent .260/20+/10 guy right now.
12:31 |
Comment From BrewCrewRyan Braun a .285/20/85/10 guy next year?
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll give him another five homers. And enough OBP to top 90 in R and RBI.
12:32 |
Comment From LarryAJayson Werth has been more valuable than Mike Trout in fantasy over the past 2 months. Just saying.
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: I’ve been very happy with him.
12:32 |
Comment From CyrusWill Nats offer Ellsbury something similar to Werth’s deal?
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: I could see Ellsbury topping that. Younger, still a CF.
12:32 |
Comment From DukesA Can Delmon Young help a contender?
12:33 |
Eno Sarris: A righty platoon DH? Maybe when rosters expand.
12:33 |
Comment From CWJarred Cosart. 14-teamer. 97% Z contact, 1:1 K/BB, how ridiculous is the ERA/WHIP, and should I hold him for the back of my rotation vs. E.Jax, Kennedy, Doubront, Vogelsong, Leake or Buehrle?
12:34 |
Eno Sarris: I really don’t see the control. Obviously, 95 with fastball and a good curve is fine, but he can’t command either pitch . I’d rather stream for good matchups with Kennedy at the front of the line.
12:34 |
Comment From Steve-oWhat do the FanGraphs T-Shirts actually look like? The photo on the site is just a photo of a couple of T-Shirts with the FG logo photoshopped on
12:34 |
Eno Sarris: It’s a well-fitting comfortable blue t-shirt with the logo photoshopped on.
12:34 |
Comment From LarryABonifacio over Villar if I need speed?
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: Nah. Boni might lose PT as the Royals fall out and move to Getz/Moose Tacos / Giavotella (aka the future).
12:35 |
Comment From Dr. MetSpeaking of d’s, what in the dejesus is going on? Traded, waived, claimed?
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: Dunno why Nats were trying to block someone.
12:35 |
Comment From MaloneHeyward had a .414 wOBA in the second half.
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: Exactly. He can help the Bravos in the playoffs.
12:35 |
Comment From MarkKeep 3 deadline deal: My Heyward and Koji for his Stanton and Romo. Rate this trade before Heyward’s injury. How much should I gloat (keeping in mind I am likely missing the playoffs and the other guy is in second)?
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: Well he’ll scoreboard you so don’t get too lusty.
12:35 |
Comment From GoatIs McCann being platooned now?
12:36 |
Eno Sarris: He’s a lefty catcher, so even if he was, it’d be about the same as a normal righty catcher.
12:36 |
Comment From BadLuckPlease rank the following scrubs to replace Heyward: Swisher, Reddick, Dozier, JonJay, Wong?
12:36 |
Eno Sarris: It’s a well-fitting comfortable blue t-shirt with the logo photoshopped on.
12:36 |
Eno Sarris: Swisher told me this week that his shoulder finally feels right. HIghest LD rate of his career. (dunno what happened THERE, coveritlive, jeez.)

12:38 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss PuiggyAnother beer recc: Fire in the Ham Rauschbier by Jack’s Abby. Lots of good smoky/almost bacon like flavor infused into a light bodied lager w/ hops finish. Wonderful.
12:38 |
Eno Sarris: Sounds very strange.
12:38 |
Comment From JordanApparently I’m being taught the importance of editing one’s work…You miss a lot when not watching any baseball for two weeks. Is this Junior Lake thing still a thing?
12:38 |
Eno Sarris: All tools no skills. Could give you some power and speed with a bad BA, and is still starting.
12:39 |
Comment From RKWhat are the chances you give Gausman of opening next year in the O’s rotation? I am trying to make a run and could pickup hopefully 3 weeks worth of David Wright by dropping him at a potentially keepable price if he starts the year in the rotation. Thoughts? (I have Longo so it’s not like I’m in dire need but every bit helps)
12:39 |
Eno Sarris: Pretty good. He’s got more upside than any of their other starters. Nobody else to drop? (other thing is you might be able to draft him at reasonable price, I doubt they announce before ST is over that he’s the starter.)
12:39 |
Comment From BadLuckJCastro seems legit
12:40 |
Eno Sarris: He told me he was playing with his Gb/FB split this season, and what do you know, more FBs, more homerz. I caught up with him and he was like, yuuuup.
12:40 |
Comment From 4000+ Questions askedIchiro has 4000 hits between two leagues, that is both awesome and amazing.
12:41 |
Eno Sarris: But also not 4000 hits in the record books.
12:41 |
Comment From GuestHey Eno. If you had to drop one of Ludwick and Brantley to snag Tommy Hunter who would you pick. Brantley surprisingly solid this year but obviously doesn’t have power potential of R Lud. See any signs of optimism with him?
12:41 |
Eno Sarris: Actually I’d drop Ludwick. Roto cuff injuries are tough on power.
12:41 |
Comment From MartyAny plans for a podcast ep of cistuili, sarris, Murphy? That would be the holy trinity if eccentricity.
12:42 |
Eno Sarris: We could try to make it happen as long as Blake doesn’t start talking hockey or wrestling.
12:42 |
Comment From No Way JoseAltuve hurt or just in slump? Dude has been brutal for last week and need his speed/avg. bad!
12:42 |
Eno Sarris: Slump. Happens sometimes when you’re a bit BABIP-dependent.

12:43 |
Comment From KBAny reason to own Xander Bogaerts if no chance you are keeping him for 2014?
12:43 |
Eno Sarris: No, as we said on the podcast, I think he’s around 1/4 PT (SS v LHP, some 3B). Wong, for example, is 2/3+ PT (2b V RHP).
12:44 |
Comment From @TheREALMarthaStewartShawn, have you ever watched Jordan Schafer play defense? He’s fast, but reads the ball HORRIBLY off the bat, takes HORRIBLE angles, and has a peashooter for an arm. He has never rated positively by any metric, and fails the eye test miserably as well.
12:44 |
Comment From Playing for next year!CayyyuuuuuuuuCas! So who’s the better keeper, Wheeler or Gray?
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: There you go. Wheeler plays in NL and has done something, has more plus pitches probably. I like em both though.
12:44 |
Comment From MartyMuch of the recent boom in pitching is due to valued d and shifts. Agree?
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: This could be true. The pitt pitchers were very happy with the shift when I talked to them.
12:45 |
Comment From Jordan
Yes please.
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: This is actually how you pour this, by the way.

Comment From Cornerzbetter combo? Chris Johnson ATL at 1B, Aramis at 3B. Or B. Moss at 1B and Chris J at 3B?
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: Moss is a platoon guy. Sorry, but Aramis at three B, CJ at 1B, with some Moss mixed in is best.
12:46 |
Comment From GSonSalazar and unpublished innings limit.. A bunch of hokum or something Tribe fans should wrap their hands around?
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: There has to be one. I don’t know what it is, but he’s far and away past his his IP from last year already. I think the team will shut him down as soon as their playoff percentage drops under 15% or so. It’s at 30% now.
12:47 |
Comment From CochiseAre you gonna make a triumphant return to fantasy football anytime soon?
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: One. League. And for some reason it’s a deep dynasty and I have to know who Bernard Pierce and Kendrall Thompkins are.
12:47 |
Comment From juan pierres mustacheStouts: Founders’ Breakfast (all varieties–KBS probably best), Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout (again, all varieties I’ve tried are good), Stone w00tstout, Oskar Blues Ten FIDY
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: yes on all except woot.
12:48 |
Comment From Maxamuz
MOVE OVER LUCAS DUDA, I FOUND A NEW IDOL! His nickname, "Moon Man," stemmed from various escapades such as the hijacking of the team bus and the flooding of a minor league ballpark so he could leave Amarillo one day early at the end of the
12:48 |
Comment From John StamosIn a dynasty league, who would I miss more if I dropped them to pick up a roster spot to stream SP’s the rest of the way? Asdrubal Cabrera or Andre Ethier?
12:48 |
Eno Sarris: As Cab LD still good.
12:48 |
Comment From EzraWho would you rather have for steals down the stretch – Rajai or Coco?
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: I’d rather have Coco all around, but if you could plug Rajai in mostly against lefties, and all you needed was steals, I guess it’s him.
12:49 |
Comment From VinceBetter waiver add: Danny Salazar or Sonny Gray?
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: Gray has more innings and will be around longer, like Salazar’s stuff longer. So your settings matter.
12:49 |
Comment From bdhudsonMore realistic outcome: Pujols has another 30-hr season, or Josh Hamilton lays off a breaking pitch low and away?
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: The Pujols one, with a healthy fasciitis.
12:50 |
Comment From dudePedro Martinez has really long fingers. I remember in some magazine I had when I was like 13, he showed all of his pitch grips. I took up the circle change and threw it once really well. It was awesome. And that is the highlight of my baseball career. Oh, and my inside the park homer in little league.
12:50 |
Comment From NotOlyphantMartinez changeup grip was amazing due to his hands, Rondo would probably have been one fine pitcher.
12:50 |
Eno Sarris: These were posted in succession!
12:50 |
Comment From CrustyTrying to pound some nails into a coffin and pull signficantly ahead of 2nd place team by stacking my lineup with speed (I’m safely in 1st in other categories). Which 2 of the following would you pick: Dyson, Cain, Gose, Stubbs, some AL prospect about to get called up who I don’t know about?
12:50 |
Eno Sarris: Give Gose a shot for a bit. Cain is the fallback.
12:51 |
Comment From Mr. Wrestling IVThe population of players who throw left and bat right is like 10% position players/90% pitchers. Why is that? It seems counterintuitive for a pitcher to put his pitching arm closer to the incoming ball.
12:51 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll ask around but I bet it has something to do with how they became a lefty pitcher. (For example, they were a righty that learned to throw lefty.)
12:52 |
Comment From Mike at The TedJerk-store or Rendon. Holding onto both, sitting on my bench for depth. Which one to drop for ROS. Not planning on keeping them for next year.
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: You know, I like em both, but Rendon’s K% is four percent lower. Neither player is in a stabilized sample size for power. Maybe Rendon!
12:53 |
Comment From Maxamuz
That's it Eno. It has been 30 minutes. Your outright refusal to include me in this chat will result in the tables being flipped. You now will become my mortal enemy.
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: This is what happens when you’re 30 minutes behind the questions.
12:54 |
Comment From RasputinI live in NYC and love milk stouts. Any recommendations?
12:54 |
Comment From Meano EnoENO! This is my last chat until December 🙁 will you cry for me?
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll miss your ‘eno’ chants.
12:55 |
Comment From crankAL East…I suck
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: Naw. Two really good teams and Baltimore’s not bad either. (whoops did I do that)
12:55 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss PuiggyPedro Martinez had double jointed fingers which allowed him some really unique grips w/ his middle knuckle bent backward. He also had very long fingers for a relatively short pitcher
12:56 |
Comment From Mike at The TedEver had a Bud Ice Light and some Crunchy Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos?
12:56 |
Eno Sarris: No but BeerGraphs today has a piece where the flaming hot Cheetos factor in heavily.
12:56 |
Comment From Donnie GinesEno, Heyward worth holding onto. He would be a fourth rounder next year. 12 team 5×5 obp league.
12:57 |
Eno Sarris: I like him as a fourth-round talent, but I doubt he’d cost that in a draft.
12:57 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggydoes going back to Giavotella qualify as “back to the future”?
12:57 |
Comment From CrustyIncoming: “Rays Sign Delmon Young”. (as a RH platoon DH opposite Scott?)
12:58 |
Eno Sarris: Okay, sure, maybe, but ‘help’ is a relative term.
12:58 |
Comment From bobGeorge Springer, Kyle Zimmer, and a second rounder for Ryan Braun in a 10-team 40-man dynasty. How’d I do?
12:58 |
Eno Sarris: I’m not sure Springer can make it as a 30% K guy. Zimmer I like, but he’s still a shot in the dark, can’t be more than 50% likely to make it. Sounds good to me.
12:58 |
Comment From Mike at The TedStraily available in 12 team… should he be rostered?
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: Streamer I guess.
12:59 |
Comment From MaxamuzOh look who finally recognizes that I’m here. It’s to late Eno. I have prayed to the baseball gods and wished horrible things upon Lucas Duda for your lack of respect.
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: Are you sure I haven’t published like eight things from you today?
12:59 |
Comment From RMPSchierholtz or Swisher ROS?
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: Schierholtz if daily lineups and you can keep him out v LHP.
12:59 |
Comment From Mike at The TedOBERHOLTZER! Awesome name, awesome pitcher?
1:00 |
Eno Sarris: Awesome name, okay pitcher. I like his changeup, but his curveball, even though he has two of them, leaves me flat.
1:00 |
Comment From TomHeading out to a local bar with a large tap list tonight for a meeting of my album club (like a book club but we talk about an album). Here are some of the beers on tap I’m thinking of trying – Odell Myrcenary, Stone Sublimely Righteous, Left Hand Milk Stout, Lagunitas IPA, FW Union Jack. Thoughts?
1:00 |
Eno Sarris: Leave the Stone until later. They can wreck a palate. The Milk Stout might actually go first! good list.
1:01 |
Comment From HogwagonDeep league: Hoes or Khris Davis as a Heyward filler?
1:01 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggywho is Alex Rios really?
1:01 |
Eno Sarris: .275/20/15. Most years within a good or bad month of that.
1:02 |
Comment From MartyHas anyone notices Ike Davis’ last month? Pretty solid.
1:02 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah he’s had a better approach at the plate. I’ve always liked him as a real-life 2+ WAR guy, a guy who can D and OBP and SLG his way past a bad K%.
1:02 |
Comment From DaveI’m from PA. Been liking stouts a lot so far, but don’t have a whole ton of money to spend unfortunately.
1:05 |
Eno Sarris: I really liked the Saison Du BUFF from Victory and they’re not super expensive, but that’s a different style. Maybe some Troegs won’t be too expensive where you live, since they are local. Sometimes going to the breweries (Troegs, Victory, Voodoo) is a cost-effective way to go.
1:05 |
Comment From billywCan the Mets fix their holes with a trade to the rockies? Cargo, Tulo, Cuddyer would solve the mets issues and give a package starting with Mejia, Wheeler, Cecchini, Nimmo, Tapia, Robles, Duda, Valdespin
1:05 |
Eno Sarris: That sort of thing never happens. Could the Mets trade for an OF with one or two pitchers? Yes. But doubt it’s Cargo (too expensive) or Cuddyer (too old). Fowler?
1:06 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss PuiggyPSA: Make sure you have an actual 16oz. pint glass before trying “the hard pour” w/ a 12oz beer
1:06 |
Comment From JordanMy team is littered with guys who were supposed to turn it around and haven’t. 3 weeks left til the playoffs and I’m in the last playoff spot…time for some wholesale roster changes? Drop Headley in addition to Starlin?
1:07 |
Eno Sarris: As long as you’re not dropping out of the playoffs, the only way you’re going to make any headway in the playoffs is if those guys get it going at the end of the year, I’d guess. Waivers get thin these days.
1:07 |
Comment From jjupslope has a Cabernet IPA on tap right now – very interesting
1:07 |
Eno Sarris: is that like Dogfish Head 61, where they add grape must? If so, eh. If it’s Cabernet barrel-aged… then I’m in.
1:07 |
Comment From MagicCheck this prediction: Lance Lynn, top-5 N pitcher next season. What you got to say about that…
1:07 |
Eno Sarris: Not impossible. I like him.
1:07 |
Comment From garethI’m in a pickle. Lost bautista, mauer and heyward in the space of 24 hours. I’m fine in the outfield but my catcher replacement has to be: perez, salty, d’arnaud or gattis. Which one eno?
1:08 |
Eno Sarris: you know what, with Heyward out… Gattis. I think he’ll get regular catcher time and has power.
1:08 |
Comment From balticfoxAlcantara or Schoop for my last minor league roster spot? Also, thanks for showing me how to properly pour beer! I had it wrong for so long!
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: Hold on, that’s how you properly pour nitro beers, to get the full effect of the nitro. Try that with a saison and you’ll lose half the beer. Alcantara. Schoops had a real bad year.
1:09 |
Comment From saskatunesAny hope for The Bartender coming back? AND closing?
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: He’ll be back up when rosters expand most likely, but don’t think he’ll close unless Farq really blows up.
1:09 |
Comment From Maxamuz
Lucas Duda is DEAD TO ME. DEAD I TELL YOU. Long live GREG MINTON!
1:09 |
Comment From MagicMy wife makes the money in my family–does this emasculate me and will Fantasy victories help?
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: It’s working okay for me.
1:09 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss PuiggyI haven’t played fantasy football since drafting LaDainian Tomlinson in SD was basically a pass to the playoffs….has much changed?
1:10 |
Eno Sarris: Still a crapshoot.
1:10 |
Comment From SamCoco Crisp on waivers – worth dropping Byrd or Gordon for him? Dude never runs anymore
1:10 |
Eno Sarris: He’s having health issues. Getting older. I’d drop Byrd for him though.
1:10 |
Comment From Iron Balls McGintyBetter keeper? Donaldson or Castro? Both same price.
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: I believe Donaldson can be a .280/25 guy. Problem is, at third, is that much better than .280/10/20? Will have to run numbers at end of year, but I doubt it.
1:11 |
Comment From Gila MonsterWhy has Cespedes taken a step backwards? Can’t make contact, Can’t walk, therefore he can’t get on base and steal. I mean he has power, but a sub .300 OBP…ugh
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: He always had the whiffs. Likes the high fastball a bit much. I think he’ll have better years.
1:12 |
Comment From MaloneI liked how another commenter gave an anecdote about something Maxamuz said in an espn chat a year ago, and Maxamuz IMMEDIATELY provided screenshots of same.
1:12 |
Comment From dudeHow many of these comments do you read, how many do you post, how many do you get? Is it even possible to read every comment sent to you?
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: Doing my best. I read 80%, post 10% maybe.
1:12 |
Comment From person hscerisn’t fasciitis the condition not the part?
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah I always mess that up. His plantar will be heatlhy again some day.
1:12 |
Comment From RMPTake a flyer on Venable in a 12-team league?
1:13 |
Eno Sarris: If you can sit v LHP, I believe his current power and speed levels. The fences really helped him. And you don’t have to sit against all lefties, he told me that basically it’s the tall ones with the sidearm (Sale, BumG) that hurt him most.
1:13 |
Comment From MartyWe really need a Tuffy Gosewich reference in this chat.
1:13 |
Comment From GuestAutocorrect changed Salazar to Salad bar
1:14 |
Comment From MaxamuzYou and Lucas Duda are my new mortal enemies.
1:14 |
Comment From BruceCreme Brulee is en event. Dont try to finish a bomber alone
1:14 |
Comment From JordanI throw left and bat right. For me it was because anyone teaching me to swing batted right. Counter intuitive for a right handed parent to teach a left handed swing. Probably unrelated is the point that I learned to golf right handed because my parents only had right handed golf clubs.
1:14 |
Eno Sarris: We laughed, we cried, we learned.
1:15 |
Comment From saskatunesJeter: not keeping next year (4th). Past trade deadline. Questionable ability to even be worth a spot in playoff run over my current SS Segura if he’s healthy. Do I drop him? Or try to trade him for scraps in offseason?
1:15 |
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t start Jeter over Segura ever, no? Doubt anyone tries to acquire a fourth-round Jeter either.
1:15 |
Comment From NateUgh, I know the intelligent thing to do in my keeper league is to keep Heyward for next year. However…I’m pretty bitter about wasting a third round pick on the guy, and would really like to drop him and get it over with. Advice?
1:16 |
Eno Sarris: One of the hardest and most important things to do in fantasy is get over past burns. Brett Lawrie and Lucas Duda have burned me in the past. AT the right price, I’ll take em.
1:16 |
Comment From BruceWould Macros have a better chance at combatting micros by buying them up, or starting their own “micro” labels
1:24 |
Eno Sarris: Ug sorry guys
1:24 |
Eno Sarris: internet died
1:24 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggythat question about macros “combatting” micros was so depressing it ground this chat to a halt 🙁
1:25 |
Eno Sarris: yeah, what I wrote was: they are doing both now. The ones they start suck balls. The ones they buy get a little worse. But! I’ll still drink a Goose Island Matilda and go to their brew pubs (which they retained ownership of).
1:25 |
Comment From Seno ErrisAt this point in season: use bench spots for bat, SPs or saves stashes
1:25 |
Eno Sarris: SPs. Play the matchups. Can’t wait for upside bat on bench any more.
1:25 |
Comment From dudeAvisail Garcia is doing quite well for the White Sox so far.
1:26 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe the new park will let him tap into his power, but if he doesn’t have great power, I don’t think he’ll have much else.
1:26 |
Comment From garethIn light of the emergence of khris davis, I hear that the astros just l promoted maguel kabrera from aaa to help out the big league club.
1:26 |
Comment From Chris in NYIs it time to drop Rivera for Uehara or Faruqar to get the added benefit of some K’s?
1:27 |
Eno Sarris: Can’t imagine this is a great idea from the leash perspective.
1:27 |
Comment From JTI just dropped BJ Upton in a dynasty. And it felt GLORIOUS.
1:27 |
Eno Sarris: yeah thought of that.
1:27 |
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
Pic of pedro's double jointed fingers
1:27 |
Eno Sarris: Sick. on a couple levels.
1:28 |
Comment From CrustyDo you prefer identifying a specific name from your roster to offer in a trade, or do you often give your trade partner a choice of 2 or 3 names? I have found the latter approach has yielded great fortune for my team, as the trading partner usually sub-optimally selects the wrong guy.
1:28 |
Eno Sarris: Works if you have the right selection of talent. I usually identify more than one name in my head, don’t always tell them the names.
1:29 |
Eno Sarris: Hey guys, sorry to end like this with the internet and all, but the wife wants to go and I’ve got the baby now. Going to White Labs and Stone Bistro this afternoon with Alan Harrison, though, so see you guys on twitter as we descend into madness.
1:29 |
Eno Sarris: Next week I promise a full two hours of weird.
1:29 |
Eno Sarris: And yes, Maxamuz, I’ll post something of yours early so you don’t show up at my house in the rain.
1:29 |
Comment From Mike at The TedGoodbye my love!

With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
