Eno Sarris: But I do. I do.
8:55 |
Comment From BkgeneralIs it safe to say AROD is in post season form?
8:56 |
Eno Sarris: LOL. Good one. If you being serious, I do think he can be an asset on one level. OBP leagues. Deep leagues. Still probably can hit 20 homers with his hip fixed. (full year pace)
8:56 |
Comment From CeejYou always take the hitter over the pitcher, but in a vacuum, how much would you give up for Jose Fernandez as a 4 year keeper? We use QS and not Ws.
8:57 |
Eno Sarris: I dunno, maybe a guy like Nolan Arenado, who doesn’t steal bases and I don’t think has 30 home run power. Maybe a young-but-fading guy like Pablo Sandoval.

Comment From DavidSuprise! Bonus Chat!

Eno Sarris: Yah, Took the day off yesterday. Felt weird. I work pretty much every day.
8:58 |
Comment From zackDoes Colby Rasmus not suck anymore or is this just another teasing hot streak?
8:59 |
Eno Sarris: Still striking out too much to put the “Not Suck” moniker on him. Won’t hit much better than .240, somewhere between 25-30 homers, no speed any more…
8:59 |
Comment From Random Acts of LevityFriday chats now???
8:59 |
Eno Sarris: Not for good. Just for the good of the website today.
8:59 |
Comment From zackWhat in the name of Kyle Blanks is going on?
9:01 |
Eno Sarris: He cut his strikeout rate against righties! This is important, because it used to be turrible. Now it’s just bad. He whoops lefties, but he needs to continue improving against righties. I asked him what’s going on, and he evaded answering really. Just felt that this was the first time he’s felt healthy, has stayed healthy, and has gotten good playing time.
9:01 |
Comment From zackBetter ROS: Hamels or Liriano?
9:01 |
Eno Sarris: Hamels still, but if I got Liriano and an upgrade, might do it.
9:01 |
Comment From Larry DavidGallardo/Sandoval/Appel enough to get Pedroia/mediocre SP in a keep-20 H2H points league? Have Hamels, JZimm, Harvey, Wainy, Medlen and A. Sanchez already. Longo at 3B.
9:02 |
Eno Sarris: Yes should be. Should you give that up? Gallardo not much of an asset, Appel’s future unclear (but the changeup got way better this year), and Sandoval looks like a future 1B.
9:02 |
Comment From AtTheWallWhat can we make of Eric Hosmers recent return to relevance? Are the HR’s a blip? His HR/FB ratio’s at 16.4%. Where do you think it will stabilize?
9:03 |
Eno Sarris: Blip. His HR/FB in June was 27%. Still hitting over 50% on the ground. I revised my .280/20/15 expectations down to 15/15 when he was going bad, I’ll bump them back up to 20/15. This is why you have to be really patient when a hitter looks about the same but the power is missing. Especially when they young. Power takes forever to stabilize.
9:03 |
Comment From koalasin a keeper league..is jose fernandez a big step down from Strasburg? Thinking of trading Strasburg to upgrade hitting.
9:04 |
Eno Sarris: This year, JF will come up 40 IP short of Stras. Long-term, I love love JF and would do something like you are suggesting.
9:04 |
Comment From DavidBeen scuffling along with Headley/Lawrie at 3B. Picked up Rendon, but not sure I can really count on him. Was offered Wright for Headley and Latos (My #2) … do the deal? My pitching is pretty deep otherwise
9:04 |
Eno Sarris: I like Headley. I think you can make it work. 3B is more like 1B than 2B these days, lots of offense there. And I still like Headley.
9:04 |
Comment From GoatEno!!! Are you an Ouzo drinker? Supping some on a Greek island (sooo good with ice and water) but set my alarm for the chat! You big on Josh Johnson at the mo? Control still sucks- have been stashing him on the bench but gerritt cole was released in my 5×5 standard redraft and am considering putting in a claim at JJ’s expense- pull the trigger or hold pat?
9:06 |
Eno Sarris: That stuff is crazy. Too much for me. Although I had a special ouzo, like top shelf stuff, and liked it once.
Josh Johnson? High-threes ERA with a k per inning, yeah I think that’s do-able. Cole’s K% is up in the air, but ERA/WHIP should be better in the NL.
9:06 |
Comment From Too. Much. Meat.Would you sell Teheran for Cole Hamels in a QS league?
9:07 |
Eno Sarris: Keeper? Either way… Probably yes. Definite yes in redraft. Maybe no in keeper.
9:07 |
Comment From DanielYou tweeted about Hosmer’s unsustainable 27% HR/FB rate in June. Wouldn’t a major, successful adjustment lead to some dramatic short term results before stabilizing in the 15-20% range?
9:07 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah but you’d like to see his gb/fb move some if he really made an adjustment.
9:07 |
Comment From zackBetter ROS: Josh Hamilton or Delmon?

Comment From ScottIn a keeper league, where does Starlin Castro rank among SS?
9:09 |
Eno Sarris: You know, I still think he’s a .290/15/20+ guy, even if he doesn’t hit those numbers this year. And that’s still a top-six shortstop most years. I just faithcasted him into a .290/20/30 season because I saw incremental improvements every year.
9:09 |
Comment From ScottMarquis, Locke and Guthrie have to see their results regress right?
9:09 |
Eno Sarris: YES, yes, YES.
9:09 |
Comment From Las Vegas AAASoooo, about Ike Davis. I held onto him. Chances he makes Rizzo expendable so I can trade him for pitching?
9:09 |
Eno Sarris: In an OBP league, some chance of this actually. But in a batting average league, I see Rizzo pumping that up to .280 most years. Ike can’t do that.
9:10 |
Comment From LarryADo you get Bourbon Country Stout out there? is it worth the price?
9:11 |
Eno Sarris: No we don’t. But I’ll be in Chicago for a meetup July 18 (beergraphs/fangraphs) and I’ll make sure to get some.
9:11 |
Comment From They Might Be GiantsNext 4 years for fantasy, Jose Fernandez or Profar?
9:11 |
Eno Sarris: JF just cause Kinsler and Andrus signed for too many of those years.
9:11 |
Comment From MattWhich do you think has more value in a redraft? Rendon or Howard?
9:13 |
Eno Sarris: Trade value? Hot young thing. Real value? Might actually be the hot young thing. Howard can’t hit for better average than this right now. If he pushes the power pace in the second half and hits 15, though, he’ll be worth more than Rendon, who hasn’t always had great BAs and doesn’t steal much.
9:13 |
Comment From RKEno – thoughts on Justin Verlander? Nice turn last night, but something seems amiss.
9:13 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t see anything wrong in his numbers. And he seems dominant when I watch. No problems that I can see.
9:13 |
Comment From Random Acts of LevityMatt Adams needs PT, but what do the Cards need? They look pretty good and deep at the moment. Thoughts?
9:13 |
Eno Sarris: They’re just going to hold him. Have heard they think he could start next year.
9:13 |
Comment From AtTheWallAoki has 3 SB and 4 CS in his last 45 games. Has he lost his SB upside? Is this a result of Segura’s production so far?
9:14 |
Eno Sarris: You know what I found strange when I looked at his Japanese numbers recently? Three of his last four years there, he stole <20 bases. I think we miscast him as a 30 steal guy.
9:14 |
Comment From chrisIn my dynasty I’m allowed to keep 6 prospects. I have Buxton Baez Billy Hamilton zunino garrit Cole and pro far. Thoughts any you do not like? Who would u target?
9:15 |
Eno Sarris: I think you lose zunino in that crowd. the K%.. If you could build using Billy Hamilton and Zunino for Taveras, might be worth the extra wait you’ll have to undergo to see Taveras in bigs.
9:15 |
Eno Sarris: Normally that trade is impossible, but OT is hurt right now…
9:15 |
Comment From Larry DavidWhat would you consider fair value for Sandoval? Specifically an OF in a points league (dynasty).
9:15 |
Eno Sarris: I think I just answered that, randomly.
9:15 |
Comment From The NegotiatorKershaw/Kemp vs. Darvish/CarGomez. Which side would you rather have?
9:16 |
Eno Sarris: YuCar. Because Kemp’s shoulder is a big unknown to me.
9:16 |
Comment From Team TheoInternational signings, Feldman deal, Garza deal soon, the Cubs are doing well for themselves right? Any concern they don’t get Bryant signed?
9:17 |
Eno Sarris: With the new structure, I think there’s a lot lower risk of guys going unsigned. I bet Bryant signs. I like the international stuff, but I don’t even understand what a second-round International slot is worth. How often do those guys hit the bigs? I would love to see some of the draft analysis extended to international signings. How much return on investment do teams get with international $s?
9:17 |
Comment From AAIs Bryan Buxton the Number 1 prospect in baseball right now (who has not been called up) and is Aaron Sanchez going to be a top 5 prospect entering 2014?
9:17 |
Eno Sarris: Well, Oscar Taveras is pretty dang sexy, and closer, so I don’t think he’s undisputed. Sanchez… could be, but out of my league here.
9:18 |
Comment From DeepLeaguerIn a fantasy keeper league, who would you rather have rest of season/rest of career? Heyward or Hosmer?
9:18 |
Eno Sarris: Heyward/Heyward.
9:18 |
Comment From peachesnnutsBaseball needs a rookie sophmore game like the NBA badly. Darvish vs. Iwakuma. Rosario, Rizzo, Simmons, Donaldson, Trout, Harper, Cespedes vs. Gattis, Adams, Rendon, Profar, Arenado, Puig, Martin, and Ozuna
9:18 |
Eno Sarris: Yes actually, that could be fun.
9:18 |
Comment From Brian SPraise you, Sir Eno. My office is empty today. Your chat gets a full screen of its own.
9:18 |
Eno Sarris: and since there are fewer of you, chances of getting a post in goes up exponentially!
9:18 |
Comment From GuestI took a headshot in a Roman Candle fight last night. What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done on a 4th of July?
9:19 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t even like Fireworks, so this beats me. Well, one time I tried to make ground chicken burgers and got drunk first and then the chicken burgers wouldn’t stay together and we had something like chicken sloppy joes but didn’t care because we were drunk.
9:19 |
Comment From bdhudsonYou like JZimm or Ryu more ROS?
9:20 |
Eno Sarris: Zimm. Ryu has nice deception, and a nice changeup, but his other pitches aren’t as good, his fastball lacks gas, and I could see teams lining him up the more they see him.
9:20 |
Comment From Scotthow useful is it for me to hang on to Erasmo Ramirez and Carlos Martinez? Waiver wire not strong: Phelps, Santiago, Blanton, Danks, Slowey, Keuchel, E-Jax, Peralta, Gomez, Harrell.
9:20 |
Eno Sarris: The team is sitting Wacha to save his innings for the end of the season, so I think wacha is ahead of CMart, making him droppable (I like Phelps). Erasmo I’ll hold for a second given the options.
9:20 |
Comment From jwoplease rank: gee, porcello, kluber, straily ros
9:21 |
Eno Sarris: Kluber, STraily, porcello, Gee. Gee’s changeup is good, but when you send an 88 mph fastball high in the zone in August, it ends up in the seats too often.
9:21 |
Comment From CRRest of career: Rizzo or Goldschmidt?
9:22 |
Eno Sarris: What happens when Goldy starts stealing fewer bases? I’ll admit right now that it’s hard to pick Rizzo, but I do think he might settle in around .280/30+, like a new Fielder, and that there’s some risk in a 1B that gets some value from sBs.
9:22 |
Comment From stevowho are the best closer in waiting to pick up before trade deadline
9:23 |
Eno Sarris: Strop or Parker in Chicago. Parker little experience, but he’s probably a better pitcher! Henderson in Milwaukee, once K-Rod is traded. Who knows in Houston. Ambriz I guess, but they might get a random RP back in their trade and install him.
9:23 |
Comment From DaveUse #1 waiver priority on Austin Jackson? He’s scoring runs at a ridiculous rate when healthy. 12 team head to head, standard 5 categories plus ops. Would replace Aoki as starter, who’d move to bench. I’ve been conservatively holding onto it all year but thinking he’s too much to pass up. Thanks!
9:24 |
Eno Sarris: that one might be worth it. I don’t love A-Jax (think he’s a .280/15/20 kind of guy true talent), but with Aoki’s SB problems, I’d like you to have two guys in that role. I’d take it. Nice veteran boost late in the season.
9:24 |
Comment From stevois raul ibanez going to stay in my lineup all year?
9:24 |
Eno Sarris: Nah I htink he’ll revert to 20 homer pace… now.
9:25 |
Comment From DanielI have enough pieces to trade for a top-flight SS in a shallow keeper league (protect 7). Which SS do you want most the next three years? Feels like it’s a year early to protect Profar in this format. I’m not sold on Segura, don’t trust Tulo’s health.
9:25 |
Eno Sarris: Might want to go to a different position. Only one that I could forecast into top-five production next three years is Desmond. And even he has issues wrt to his K%, SB attempts.
9:25 |
Comment From BrucePlease tell me Ian Kennedy can return to being a decent SP3?
9:25 |
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll improve his control and be useful, yes. F-Strike good.
9:26 |
Comment From Keeper? I hardly know herWhat do you think of trading an established Ace like Shields for someone like JF in a keeper?
9:26 |
Eno Sarris: I’d do it if I was out of it. This year, though, JF will cost you 40-60 IP.
9:26 |
Comment From kalisiwhy am i holding bj upton
9:26 |
Eno Sarris: Can still .240/20/20 pace.
9:26 |
Comment From Keeper? I hardly know herHas Singleton hurt his chances of a call up this year with his performance in AAA so far (SSS I know).
9:26 |
Eno Sarris: Nah. That team is trying everyone out for a couple weeks. He’ll get a chance.
9:27 |
Comment From BruceIf this chat is 80/20 baseball/beer, will you do any on BG that are the opposite?
9:27 |
Eno Sarris: I’d like to. Chatting software is suddenly expensive, though, and my co-founder is busy on the leaderboards!
9:28 |
Eno Sarris: My true talent guesstimation is .275/30/15 right now. I think the K% might move south at some point. I do think his BB% will improve though too.
9:28 |
Comment From GuestThis Wednesday, gonna get to see Bob Dylan (local boy), Wilco, and My Morning Jacket at Midway Stadium (home of the St. Paul Saints). Recommendations for pre-game beers?
9:30 |
Eno Sarris: Three Floyd’s Zombie Dust in honor of Dylan, maybe an Abrasive from Surly to get your “Concert Elbows” sharp?
9:30 |
Comment From dudeAre we missing all the regulars? This chat seems to be way too focused on baseball talk.
9:30 |
Eno Sarris: Yah, get weird, people.
9:30 |
Comment From kalisitijuan walker or achie bradlie good stash for this year?
9:30 |
Eno Sarris: Walker is closer.
9:30 |
Comment From chrisProfar??? Fantasy good or just a good ball player?
9:31 |
Eno Sarris: he’s a good ball player and will be fantasy good once he gets a nice full year of work.
9:31 |
Comment From peachesnnutsIs 1B weaker than 3B now? that question was laughable in the recent past.
9:31 |
Eno Sarris: Actually, it’s been getting closer for a couple years now. Might happen this year, and if I remember the chart right, might have happened before even.
9:31 |
Comment From 5-cent headBaltimore’s Miguel Gonzalez…pretty serviceable stats over 2 different 1/2 year seasons for a back end starter. Do you concur, or am I smoking dope?
9:32 |
Eno Sarris: Real-life useful. Not sure I see a reason his BABiP needs to stay at .260 going forward though, and I think he’s more league-average and not a great fantasy asset.
9:32 |
Comment From kalisishould i trade adam lind while i still can
9:33 |
Eno Sarris: Even when he’s going good, he’s pretty much a .280/25 guy, which is replaceable.
9:33 |
Comment From kalisiporcello suck again?
9:33 |
Eno Sarris: I was never really bought in to good Porcello.
9:33 |
Comment From Chuck in Chinowaking up to Bloody Mary and Eno chat — doesn’t get much better than this… Is Peter Kozma done? If so, any chance to see Ryan Jackosn?
9:33 |
Eno Sarris: They’ll just Brendan Ryan it up with Pete Kozma. D-only guy at SS is acceptable when everything else is gangbusters.
9:33 |
Comment From bdhudsonWill billy hamilton see the majors this year?
9:34 |
Eno Sarris: I still think so, but they’re leaving Choo out there in center, which surprises me.
9:34 |
Comment From Pork SaleKen Rosenthal leaves Allen Craig off his All Star Team in favor of Freddie Freeman. Do you agree?
9:34 |
Eno Sarris: I think they are pretty comparable players. I’m not in a tizzy.
9:34 |
Comment From Tom ODo you ever find it amusing, people wildly misspelling player names? Or are you used to that by now?
9:35 |
Eno Sarris: With my mispronunciations, I cannot cast stones.
9:35 |
Comment From DeepLeaguerWhoa, whoa . . . if someone has waited for Taveras this long, why would they sell now that he’s injured?
9:35 |
Eno Sarris: How long could you have been waiting on him? He’s a helium prospect and right now is really the only chance you’ll get, since there was no buzz about him coming up, and now he’s injured. Just send a link to my piece about how the Cardinals like em old and cross your fingers.
9:37 |
Comment From bdhudsonThe most overowned fantasy player is?
9:37 |
Eno Sarris: Morneau’s at 59% and I’m not sure he’s got much power left. (Yes, I did go scroll through my Yahoo league player list)
9:37 |
Comment From AAWhat is Evan Gattis’s value when he returns? Is he the long-term answer for the braves at C or do you think they will stick with McCann
9:38 |
Eno Sarris: Next year, I bet Gattis catches for them. I doubt they’ll sign him.
9:38 |
Comment From jackWhich power hitters do you see making a second half surge (i.e. buy low targets)
9:39 |
Eno Sarris: Stanton. Maybe a mini run from Todd Frazier. Granderson. Hill.
9:39 |
Comment From ScottttttttPick one to NOT keep next year. Segura, Kipnis, A Jones, Jay Bruce, Matt Holliday, Jose Fernandez, Allen Craig
9:39 |
Comment From Billy KI’m tired of Cespedes. Trade him for Choo in an OBP?
9:39 |
Eno Sarris: Not terrible.
9:39 |
Comment From dudeFireworks are illegal in NY 🙁 NO FUN
9:40 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t care for fireworks. At least, I really hate getting into a crowd to see them. They’re meh to me. Very rarely have I seen a show and been like THAT, THAT ONE WAS TOTALLY DIFFERENT!
9:40 |
Comment From chrisCan’t get tavares for hamiltonbzunino? Would u trade those 2 for any of these guys: soler, deshields, Addison Russell , singleton, almora. Anyone else u may like. I’m willing to wait on guys too
9:40 |
Eno Sarris: Almora yes. Soler/Russell maybe.
9:40 |
Comment From BoAt what point can we say that Chris Johnson is actually a pretty good hitter and not just lucky? His career babip is surprisingly high.
9:41 |
Eno Sarris: Actually… I took a look at hitters with oppo power because of Joey Votto (for Getting Blanked) and yeah he showed up on that. I do think he has a little BABIP skill — sprays to all fields, hits the ball hard — but with his K%, he still has batting average downside.
9:42 |
Comment From Joeif you look at kemp’s batted ball distance on fly balls and home runs, he has recently been trending significantly up since returning from the DL. his avg. fly ball distance is near 300 ft again, which suggests to me he is finally healing from his shoulder injury. A-Gonz and Hanley had similar surgeries on their opposite shoulder and seem to have regained their power. i see this as a perfect opportunity to buy low on Kemp. Trumbo + Greinke for Kemp + Hellickson. what do you think for a 12-team H2H keeper league?
9:42 |
Eno Sarris: I did wonder if the DL stint for his hammy might let his shoulder heal. Greinke’s probably not getting any velo back, and kemp’s probably the best player in that deal… the probablies make me nervous, but it’s a decent trade, two useful pieces for a shot at a star.
9:43 |
Comment From DeepLeaguerWhen will fangraphs provide splits for plate discipline data?
9:43 |
Eno Sarris: I want it. You want it. We want it.
9:43 |
Comment From GuestWhat is your favorite alcoholic drink other than beer?
9:43 |
Eno Sarris: I love love Pinot Noirs and Laphroig. Both give me heartburn though.
9:43 |
Comment From TDIs Tim Lincecum due to be significantly better ROS? his xFIP is 3.47 …. same as Verlander.
9:44 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah but he’s wild in the zone and I think he’s going to have homer problems. I think he’ll be useful, especially in K/9 leagues, but no I don’t think he’s turned a corner.
9:44 |
Comment From KevinRendon or Arenado at 3B, 5×5 plus TB and OBP
9:45 |
Eno Sarris: The OBP makes Rendon more interesting. Arenado might have nod in BA leagues because he makes good contact and I think he’ll eventually have nice BABIPs helped a bit by home park.
9:45 |
Comment From B-SmackGoing forward this year, do you think Tulo will have any slip in numbers from the rib injury?
9:45 |
Eno Sarris: No, just more typical Tulo excellence… when he’s in the lineup.
9:45 |
Comment From RamonMaybe apples and oranges here but in a dynasty who would you prefer, Machado or Harvey?
9:46 |
Eno Sarris: Is Machado the number one 3B going forward? I don’t think so. Is Matt Harvey a perennial top-12 SP? I think so. There’s injury risk of course, so that makes them closer, but I take Harvey.
9:46 |
Comment From Larry DavidRafael Montero – I’ve heard whispers of him becoming an RP. He also didn’t crack an updated top-100 prospects list I just read. Am I missing something? His numbers look pretty great. Dump him for Franco, Cecchini or Biddle? Or hold on because he’s closer to the bigs?
9:47 |
Eno Sarris: I’d hold. this regime will give him a chance to be a starter a few times before giving up, IMO. Not the old regime.
9:47 |
Comment From LarryAAre you aware who has the longest shutout streak going in right now?
9:47 |
Eno Sarris: this is pretty good
9:47 |
Comment From LarryAAxford- 20 something innnings!
9:47 |
Eno Sarris: I have him in holds leagues and have been happy.
9:47 |
Comment From zackWas offered Puig for matt carpenter in a linear weights keeper league. Should I do this deal?
9:48 |
Eno Sarris: You know what? Yes. I know 2B is week, and Carp walks, but he won’t hit more than 15 or so jacks, and won’t steal bases. I think Puig is probably a 30/15 guy, and that’s a ton of points even if he doesn’t walk.
9:48 |
Comment From bdhudsonI’m going to eat lunch and return to a chat transcript full of useful and witty banter! Then I’ll remember I’m at work and be sad. Thought you’d all want to know.

9:48 |
Comment From bdhudsonBest name in the minors? I’m partial to Wendell Floranus for many juvenile reasons
9:49 |
Comment From Señor FrogWere you, by any chance, named after Brian Eno?
9:49 |
Eno Sarris: Yes Interlude
9:49 |
Comment From Take oneJose Fernandez or Samardzjia?
9:49 |
Eno Sarris: Shark. He backs up his K% with swSTR%, has more track record, both in NL.
9:49 |
Comment From LarryAhad any interesting flavoured Saisons this summer? Raspberry, peach, etc?
9:50 |
Eno Sarris: Just had Baudelaire’s rose-hip saison yesterday and really liked it again. That’s a must-try for Saison drinkers.
9:50 |
Comment From GuestWe’re witnessing the ruining of Kevin Gausman, aren’t we? This whole SP-RP-SP-RP cycle is getting old

Eno Sarris: It used to be the way of the world. As long as he continues to throw all of his pitches, I’ll be okay with it. But Jeff Samardzija admitted to me that he didn’t like relieving as he was coming up, but then also said he threw all his pitches in pens anyway. (I still love Kevin Gausman)
9:51 |
Comment From Pork SaleIs Oscar Taveras worth a spot in a 12 team mixed 30 man roster league. The damn Cardinals are staying too healthy.
9:51 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t think we’ll see much of him this year.
9:51 |
Comment From Daniel CShould I really be considering dumping Matt Wieters for Jason Castro?
9:51 |
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t. Wieters’ power over Castro’s in the second half IMO.
9:52 |
Comment From GuestI read your tweet earlier and said you don’t like Fourth of July Fireworks. I’m still not quite over it. I’ve never heard of such a thing. Is there a longer explanation to this or something that you knowingly admit to be weird and have no real story behind it?
9:53 |
Eno Sarris: Can see my answer above, but mostly I hate doing the crowds thing unless the reward is awesome music or a great sporting event. Getting in a crowd to see the same firework show I’ve seen my whole life reminds me of parades, which are TEH WURST for me.
9:53 |
Comment From BruceI need to make a desert choice: Nanaimo Bar or expensice “artisinal” donut?
9:53 |
Comment From AlIs Beergraphs affiliated in anyway with Fangraphs or does it just borrow the graphs? If it is, why doesn’t the site update it’s look?
9:54 |
Eno Sarris: BG is a licensed affiliate of FG. You’ll see BG show up in different places on FG soon. We’ll have different looks. I think that’s okay. Main thing is data-driven analysis of the subject at hand.
9:54 |
Comment From AndrewDo you ever get the sensation of wanting to sneeze, but not being able to? It’s miserable…any suggestions?
9:54 |
Eno Sarris: this is weird yo. I’m having that feeling right now. I think we forget about it and then we’ll sneeze later.
9:54 |
Comment From MosesMy 10-team keeper team is built for power. I get trade offers for Tulo all the time, but there’s not really any power-hitting shortstop who’s better than 2/3 of a season from him with the rest filled by a waiver guy (Asdrubal atm), right?
9:55 |
Eno Sarris: In a ten-team I kind of like Tulo better. The replacement while he’s out is totally fine.
9:55 |
Comment From Juan Pierres Superfluous Third NippleI’m keeping an eye on this thread.
9:55 |
Eno Sarris: So far, all quiet on the Western front.
9:55 |
Comment From Pork SaleGot ahold of some Ballast Point. Am I a complete doofus for liking the Big Eye better than the Sculpin?
9:55 |
Eno Sarris: BG co-founder Matt D is with you. Sculpin is heavy on hops. Big Eye more drinkable/lighter.
9:56 |
Comment From GuestAdam Eaton was a popular sleeper pick heading into the season, and it seems he’ll be back in a week or so. Any thoughts on him going forward from a production and playing time perspective? Worth a stash?
9:56 |
Eno Sarris: I think he is. OBP, BA, SBs should all be there, and SBs are down across the league. Pollock should really only play v LHP, and Ross (vLHP) and Kubel (vRHP) have their platoon issues too. There’s an opening there still.
9:56 |
Comment From BruceHow does John Sterling still have his job. Are there worse announcers than him?
9:57 |
Comment From SeattleWhich Mariner would you stash between Ramirez and Walker in a H2H points, (non-keeper) — both?
9:57 |
Eno Sarris: Feel like Erasmo has to be ahead, unless that management team gets desperate and tries the young fancy thing.
9:57 |
Comment From GuestIs there a search function on BG?
9:57 |
Eno Sarris: Will be soon. We’re working on the leaderboards every day.
9:58 |
Comment From Random Acts of LevitySmyly is such a valuable asset in the DET bully. Can they continue to trot Porcy or Alvarez out there or does the kid get his due?
9:58 |
Eno Sarris: I feel like the multi-inning thing with Smyly was keeping one foot in that pool, but now he’s a more traditional setup man. Might be closer to being the closer, especially since Anibal is closer. #closer
9:58 |
Comment From frank the tankThoughts on Taylor Jordan?
9:59 |
Eno Sarris: GBs and control? Wasn’t too impressed with first look, but I’ll give him another.
9:59 |
Comment From Random Acts of LevitySo…you will give a weeks notice before your next Friday chat so we can all go out, buy the same beer, drink it during the chat, and compare notes….right?
9:59 |
Eno Sarris: Love that idea.
9:59 |
Comment From Las Vegas AAABuying low is tough. Want to make an offer on Andrus but this means starting with a Zobrist for Andrus/Upgrade somewhere else since he doesn’t have another SS. What do you do in these situations?
10:00 |
Eno Sarris: Unless you do the Zob situation, you probably won’t get a deal done. Unless you spot the waiver wire SS he might pick up, pick him up, and then wait two weeks so he forgets you picked him up.
10:00 |
Comment From YowzaI’m probably going to see Manny Ramirez play baseball in person on Thursday night. What should I yell at him?
10:00 |
Comment From MattWhat do you think or Randall Delgado?
10:00 |
Comment From EddieWhither Brandon Beachy? He was my sleeper special going into the draft!
10:00 |
Eno Sarris: Working on his control
10:01 |
Comment From LarryThots on L. Chisenhall and O. Arcia.
10:01 |
Eno Sarris: interested in Arcia for power. Home park suppresses it some (Chiz too) but Arcia has more natural power. If Chiz was at a tougher position, I’d be more interested in him.
10:01 |
Comment From Gila MonsterWhat is your favorite non-beer alcoholic drink?
10:02 |
Eno Sarris: Pretty much only drink beer and water. Sometimes Kefir. Oh and that Jamaican ginger beer. Mostly things that dehydrate and hydrate me though. Things with sugar seem pointless.
10:02 |
Comment From ToddCingrani is going to stop walking guys, right?
10:03 |
Eno Sarris: I wonder if it’s an extension of his one-pitch thing. People just waiting for the fastball the want since they know it’s mostly fastballs.
10:03 |
Comment From John StamosShould I be picking up Phegley as a waiver?
10:03 |
Eno Sarris: I’m suspicious. Didn’t have this power until this year. I doubt him.
10:03 |
Comment From GoatI have seen no Duda update as yet. Getting really worried- reminds me of a story an old landlord I worked for told me about one of his regulars… He was so dedicated that they knew he had kicked the bucket when he didn’t turn up one Thursday for his 11am 4 pints and a shot of gin… Where is Duda??!!! A world without Duda is a world I want no part in.
10:03 |
Eno Sarris: Maxamuz where are you
10:04 |
Comment From John StamosIs Appel for $9 too much at this point?
10:04 |
Eno Sarris: Gonna be double-digits before he has regular role in bigs, that seems like a bad deal.
10:04 |
Comment From GuestWhat cf should the reds target so they can move Choo to LF. Billy Hamilton is dealing with a wrist issue so I am guessing that might rule him out for a while.
10:04 |
Eno Sarris: Ah did not know that bit. What about Ruggiano? Cheap, probably.
10:05 |
Comment From ChristopherDo you ever get tired of the unrealistic prospect hype? You can be one of the best minor-leaguers the world have ever seen, and you’re still somewhere between Matt Wieters and Jay Bruce. Which is still a very good major league player, but not a superstar.
10:05 |
Eno Sarris: For the most part, I trend veteran or young MLBer. Have shown something, so even if you feel like the ceiling is lower, the floor is higher, and how high is the ceiling really on these prospects.
10:06 |
Comment From Random Acts of LevityIs it too early to grab Sano for next year if you’re out of things this year?
10:06 |
Eno Sarris: No, the Twinosphere is already talking about Sano seeing time this year.
10:06 |
Comment From JasonAny thoughts on Kyle Gibson’s last start? What was different? Or was he just facing a better team in the Yankees? Still holding onto him over replacement level in a 12-team mixed keeper league?
10:06 |
Eno Sarris: Still like his GB and swSTR and BB record so far. I’m holding for a bit longer.
10:06 |
Comment From Electricbest name in the minors: Exicardo Cayones
10:06 |
Comment From 2ndHSOkay. I’m here. You can start the chat now.
10:07 |
Comment From fireworks?really?
10:07 |
Comment From GrohmanEno “Country” Sarris – AleSmith X. Got some, excited…what do you love about it?
10:07 |
Eno Sarris: I love well-balanced DIPAs. It’s hoppy, but it’s sweet too, so you don’t get HOPS IN DA MOUF.
10:07 |
Comment From MosesHave you tried DFH Positive Contact? I bought it because Deltron 3030 and came away surprised at how much I enjoyed drinking a saison/farmhouse style beer, which normally isn’t my thing
10:08 |
Eno Sarris: I did the same thing. It’s saison-y, but it’s a little more like a fruit beer. Very interesting. Haven’t bought again, but might.
10:08 |
Comment From davelamb9000Who would you pick from these uninspiring choices to start at SS: Scutaro, Simmons, Crawford, Rutledge, Brad Miller, Drew
10:10 |
Eno Sarris: You’ll need to own two. I’d own Rut-Rut just for a bit, and Miller. The guys like Scutaro and Simmons and Drew and Crawford will be there later. If Rut-Rut goes on a babip tear, he could force issue at 2b, and Miller has some nice upside too. I’ll admit, though, that Rut-Rut plate discipline and d (and Tulo’s impending return) says that maybe you should try Simmons and Miller instead.
10:10 |
Comment From WesEno chatting on a day when I shouldn’t even be at work? YAYAYA! I’m stubborn about dropping under performing players. For example, I own Jimmy Rollins, Chase Headley and Yoenis Cespedes in an OBP league and they’re all dragging me down. I’m waiting, but I also fall into a slight depression every time I see one of these guys striking out or weakly grounding to the pitcher. You selling any of these guys for .50 on the $?
10:10 |
Eno Sarris: Jimmy Rollins is old. I might see what I could get for him. Maybe use him to buy low on Castro or something.
10:11 |
Comment From Re: sneezingLook up at the light. The sun, if you can see it. Works for me.
10:11 |
Comment From BoTry closing your eyes then open and look at a bright light while slowly breathing through your nose.
10:11 |
Comment From AndrewWow ha I was not expecting empathy on the sneezing thing. Good luck!
10:11 |
Comment From Jerk storeIs Bastardo the closer in Philly if Paps is traded? Next year?
10:11 |
Eno Sarris: Him or DeFratus. Might be DeFratus, since he’s setting up.
10:11 |
Comment From Jerk storeThoughts on Ozuna? Is he a starter next year?
10:11 |
Eno Sarris: yes. worse BA cause of the Ks.
10:11 |
Comment From BkgeneralHow does Carter Capps strike out so many guys, walk so few, and yet be terrible?
10:12 |
Eno Sarris: Platoon splits I guess.
10:12 |
Comment From RotoLandoDyansty League: Pujols for Matt Moore. Nuts?
10:12 |
Comment From PaulMDont you hate when you shave and then miss a spot and then you spend the rest of the day feeling the hair that you missed? Ugh
10:12 |
Eno Sarris: Yes. Only way to solve this is beer.
10:12 |
Comment From Cal GuyWho would you rather have long term, Myers or Correa?
10:13 |
Eno Sarris: Correa. Myers strikes me like Swisher, which is real-life fine.
10:13 |
Comment From AnthonyMy team is built for losing and being horrible. Just an FYI.
10:13 |
Eno Sarris: I’m sorry if I had a part in that.
10:13 |
Comment From Dr. Meti’m here!
10:13 |
Eno Sarris: I’m slowing down!
10:13 |
Comment From NickEno, what was the beer of choice yesterday?
10:14 |
Eno Sarris: Let’s see. Mikkeler pils (great, but almost an IPA), Baudelaire Rose Hip Saison, a California Native Ale (a light wit), AleSmith X, and El Segundo CITRA. all yummy
10:15 |
Comment From AndrewBeer lude- what do you think of Sierra Nevada Torpedo? I’d somehow not had any until last night despite living in California, and I was very impressed. Tons of hop flavor without being insanely bitter, plus a great malt backbone. I’m not a big Sierra Nevada Pale guy, but I thought the Torpedo was fantastic.
10:15 |
Eno Sarris: Yes, Torpedo is underrated because of the ubiquity of their regular pale ale I think.
10:15 |
Comment From dudeJPM killed Maxamuz.
10:15 |
Eno Sarris: Oh no the war has come to a conclusion?
10:15 |
Comment From Beef SodaDo you think Donaldson’s numbers will hold up? His history does not seem to support this kind of performance.
10:16 |
Eno Sarris: Actually I think his minor league history does suggest he could be a true-talent .280+/20+ kind of guy. So yeah some regression, but I still like him.
10:16 |
Comment From GuestWill Carter Capps bounce back?
10:16 |
Eno Sarris: Sure but he’s still got wicked platoon splits and a slider that suggests that maybe he should.
10:17 |
Comment From GuestIs Lance Berkman done?
10:17 |
Eno Sarris: Looks like it.
10:17 |
Comment From The other KyleNL-only keeper league, 4X4 (no runs, Ks), $26 cap…I have Segura at $1 and have 2 choices…keep him for 1 more year at $1, or re-up after this year for $.50/yr added…do i maximize value and just keep him next year at $1, or would you add on years? and how many?
10:19 |
Eno Sarris: I’d add some years. Had a similar decision with Kipnis and feel good about it now (went three years). I’d look around at top-six shortstops and how much they cost. I bet two years would still make sense. (He’d be $2 a year for three years?)
10:19 |
Comment From AndrewBerkman is OBPing .360. I know the power is waning, but isn’t “done” overstated?
10:19 |
Eno Sarris: Oh he’s real life useful. But the power is gone and that’s hwy fantasy owners own him.
10:19 |
Comment From BkgeneralI still believe in Zac Britton. Am I insane?
10:19 |
Comment From PaulMBallast Point Longfin is an excellent Helles style session lager. LOVE it
10:20 |
Eno Sarris: Ballast Point is so frigging good. Such a great lineup. Variety. Killer stouts, lagers, IPAs.
10:20 |
Comment From BkgeneralI also don’t know what GBER means, am I dumb too?
10:21 |
Comment From AndrewMy name also is Andrew and was thinking the same thing on Berkman.
10:21 |
Eno Sarris: With the sneeze thing, we’re a regular X-files episode today.
10:21 |
Comment From dudeFavorite competitive thing to do that doesn’t involve physical sports that involve athleticism? I phrase it this way because some believe chess is a sport.
10:21 |
Eno Sarris: Settlers of Cataan? Backgammon?
10:21 |
Comment From dudeYes, but in a surprising twist, Duda killed Maxamuz.
10:21 |
Eno Sarris: He was tired of all the updates.
10:22 |
Comment From GrohmanIf you could have one stat replace BA in the virtual lineup cards that broadcasts show at the beginning of games, what would it be – wOBA? WRC+? If you say OPS Dave Cameron will harm you.
10:22 |
Eno Sarris: got asked this on the radio and said wRC+. Isn’t it easy to say “dude’s offense is 20% better than league average.” that makes sense. it’s not super complicated. And it’s such a great summation.
10:22 |
Comment From dudeMilk Stout or Guinness Stout?
10:22 |
Eno Sarris: milk stout every day and twice on every day.
10:23 |
Comment From mickWhat somewhat struggling catcher this year would you not be surprised about being top-5 next year? My money is on Sally Perez, but…
10:23 |
Eno Sarris: Avil still has some skills. Lucroy could have a career year. Grandal could still be great.
10:23 |
Comment From BkgeneralWhat do you see from Ike Davis ROS? Demotion get his attention?
10:24 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe, but Vegas is a band box too.
10:24 |
Comment From Brian SBaked Beans or Potato Salad
10:24 |
Eno Sarris: great question. um. Potato Salad? especially if it has bacon in it.
10:24 |
Comment From dudeThe Mermaid Parade is pretty cool Eno.
10:24 |
Eno Sarris: I enjoyed that parade. Almost a concert. I’ll call it a concert. I also like halloween. If you dress up yourself, no longer a parade?
10:24 |
Comment From GrohmanHow many times a week you playing hoops?
10:25 |
Eno Sarris: Two or three. Can’t exercise otherwise, so boring.
10:25 |
Comment From BruceA 25$ Pujols is sitting on my Otto waiver wire. just languishing there. Sad, really
10:26 |
Eno Sarris: I’d think about it if i was a contender with money, but no contendes have $ at this point in season.
10:26 |
Comment From DavidIs Alex Cobb worth a stash?
10:26 |
Comment From AndrewDerek Dietrich has a 25% line drive rate, no big platoon splits, a 287 ft average HR+FB distance, 7 bombs (with 15-20+ HR power in the minors consistently), is 23, and plays a premium fantasy position. Why don’t I hear more about him?
10:26 |
Comment From zackPhillies should pick a former Royals outfielder. Create the awesome Delmon/Frenchy platoon

10:27 |
Comment From CleonWhat’s wrong with Cespedes?
10:28 |
Eno Sarris: Too any Ks on high fastballs. He’s made some adjustments in past, so there’s still hope.
10:29 |
Comment From Jazzy JimAny North Carolina beer recommendations out here in MiLB country?
10:29 |
Eno Sarris: Foothills’ stuff looks good
10:29 |
Comment From AndrewDietrich’s BABIP, on that note, is .246. TELL ME IT’S OK THAT I LOVE DEREK DIETRICH!!!
10:30 |
Eno Sarris: It’s okay. I’d be worried about his BA even with a normal BABIP.
10:30 |
Comment From AndrewThe A’s fireworks show on Wed was freaking incredible. Weird, considering everthing else about the park is subpar.
10:30 |
Eno Sarris: Well there you go. I probably would have enjoyed the game and beat the crowds going home.
10:30 |
Comment From JRWill Oswalt become relevant again?
10:30 |
Eno Sarris: Away spot starts.
10:30 |
Comment From AndrewDietrich’s K% is 23%. Not great, obviously, but isn’t that serviceable for a potential 20 HR MI who should see his BABIP come around?
10:30 |
Eno Sarris: Potential to be worse. But at 23%, he could .270 or so.
10:31 |
Comment From SonnyDom Brown here to stay?
10:31 |
Eno Sarris: .275/25/10 true talent Imo.
10:31 |
Comment From 2ndHSI don’t know about the rest of the world, but I’m pretty excited for Hellweg vs Wheeler tonight.
10:31 |
Eno Sarris: The inner thighs, knees, shins and shoulders of the catchers involved are not as excited.
10:32 |
Eno Sarris: Hey guys! Family is back from hope depot. Gotta help now! Enjoy your weekend! Drink beer, responsibly, as in drink good beer.
