FAN Projection Targets: Five Signees and/or Tradees
At the beginning of this week, FanGraphs CEO and founder David Appelman announced that the ballots for the 2015 FAN Projections are now available for the tender ministrations of this site’s readership. With a view to ensuring that all notable players are addressed sufficiently — and also towards producing the number of posts he’s required to publish each week — the present author is highlighting certain players whose ballots are of some particular interest.
Before casting a ballot, don’t forget this note from Appelman’s announcement post:
Please note that everything this year is a rate stat. You’re projecting 2B+3B, HR, SB, and Fielding as a measure of 150 games (basically a full season). The player’s previous stats are shown per 150 games in the projection ballot too. This will make changing playing time projections much easier as you’ll only have to change the games played portion.
Now, here are five players for the reader’s consideration — all of whom have either signed or been traded this offseason. Note: listed age is for 2015.
Player: Nori Aoki, 33, OF (Profile)
2014 Line: 549 PA, .285/.349/.360, 7.8% BB, 8.9% K, 104 wRC+ at MLB
Notes: Once again, in 2014, posted nearly identical walk and strikeout rates while also producing above-average defensive numbers in right field. Signed literally today by San Francisco for one year and $4.7 million. Likely to play left field for Giants.
Player: Dean Anna, 28, SS (Profile)
2014 Line: 241 PA, .207/.325/.308, 13.7% BB, 10.4% K, 80 wRC+ at Triple-A
Notes: Made major-league debut with Yankees in 2014 as 27-year-old following six years in Padres system. Selected off waivers by Pittsburgh in July and then granted free agency by that club in November. Signed major-league deal this offseason with St. Louis, with whom he’s likely occupy utility role.
Player: Tyler Clippard, 30, RHP (Profile)
2014 Line: 70.1 IP, 10.49 K/9, 2.94 BB/9, 0.64 HR/9, 2.75 FIP at MLB
Notes: Including 2014, has now produced six consecutive seasons in which he’s recorded at least 60 innings and 27% strikeout rate. Traded from Washington to Oakland this past week in exchange for Yunel Escobar (below). Will probably assume setup role with A’s in front of Sean Doolittle.
Player: Yunel Escobar, 32, SS (Profile)
2014 Line: 529 PA, .258/.324/.340, 8.1% BB, 11.3% K, 95 wRC+ at MLB
Notes: Served as Oakland’s starting shortstop for five days following trade to A’s from Tampa Bay. Has now occupied role as Washington’s starting shortstop second baseman for two days in wake of second trade.
Player: Josh Johnson, 31, RHP (Profile)
2013 Line: 81.1 IP, 9.18 K/9, 3.32 BB/9, 1.66 HR/9, 4.62 FIP at MLB
Notes: Signed with San Diego for one year and $8 million before 2014 season but failed to make any official appearances. Signed with San Diego for one year again earlier this month for considerably less money (about $1 million) but quite a lot in available incentives. Would certainly be a rotation fixture should he return to his previous form.

who the fuck wants to project Dean Anna
I did it just for spite.
I just don’t get why some feel the need to act like this.
