Description:
To assist with virtually all facets of the Baseball Operations department while gaining exposure to the day-to-day operations of a Major League Baseball front office. The internship responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following, as outlined by department.
Responsibilities:
Baseball Operations:
- Gather and coordinate information for baseball planning and decision-making.
- Perform scouting, analytical, financial and/or statistical studies as assigned or as interest dictates.
- Coordinate, collect and analyze video for studies and potential player acquisitions.
- Assist with all negotiation planning, arbitration preparation and organization of contract information.
Amateur Scouting:
- Assist in the Draft information-gathering and information-tracking process.
- Coordinate the day-to-day administrative needs of scouts and crosscheckers through frequent communication.
- Assist in booking travel arrangements for various meetings/events/showcases.
- Coordinate approval of the department’s expenses.
Player Development:
- Coordinate the distribution of daily game reports to front office and field personnel.
- Coordinate pitch-tracking and video-related game information.
- Assist in the day-to-day administrative needs related to the entire department and Minor League video needs.
Professional and Advance Scouting:
- Assist advance scouts and Advance Scouting Coordinator with video and analysis of tendencies of upcoming opponents for the team’s advance reports.
- Coordinate the collection of relevant advance scouting information.
- Analyze relevant statistics to evaluate and analyze performance trends.
- Assemble and distribute advance scouting reports to Major League coaching staff and select front office personnel.
- Assist with the coordination of video, stats, and other information on Major and Minor League players.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree is a must.
- Previous baseball experience as a player, coach or relevant position otherwise is preferred.
- Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Excel, including formula, pivot table and chart creation.
- Familiarity with the following program languages is a plus: R, SQL and other.
- Knowledge of and exposure to sabermetrics.
- Qualified applicants must be motivated, well organized and detail-oriented.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able and willing to travel.
- Ability to work with multicultural populations and a commitment to fairness and equality.
- Ability to act according to the organizational values at all times.
- Ability to develop and maintain successful working relationships with members of the Front Office.
- Effective communication with both co-workers and guests.
- Ability to work extensive hours, evenings and weekends required Ability to walk and/or stand for entire shift.
- Ability to lift and transport items up to 25 lbs.
- Reads, speaks and comprehends English effectively.
- Ability to speak and comprehend Spanish is a plus.
