Description:
The Detroit Tigers are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer. This role will be responsible for development and maintenance of software projects within Baseball Operations. This position will report to the Sr. Director, Baseball Analytics & Operations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform general development and maintenance tasks for the upkeep of internally developed software products.
- Use modern software techniques and best practices in all parts of the software life cycle.
- Supervise, provide feedback, and guide project work conducted by external consultants.
- Manage the integration of baseball analysis into our proprietary tools and applications.
- Provide coverage for the maintenance of software tools for other developers as situations arise.
- Assist with the design and development of new software products.
- Monitor, identify and recommend new or emerging techniques, technologies, and algorithms.
- Meet with vendors and make recommendations for investment in new data and technology resources.
- Other projects as directed the Baseball Operations leadership team.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, similar technical field of study or equivalent real-time experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge in developing in a Web-based object-oriented product environment.
- Minimum of four (4) years programming experience in and strong knowledge of several of the following technologies:
- Java and developing java web based applications
- Spring applications
- REST API’s
- JUnit and Mockito for backend test cases
- JavaScript and Angular JS – Version 1.x a plus
- Karma Test Cases
- Bootstrap
- CSS
- Build Tools (Maven, Gulp and Bower)
- GIT/BitBucket
- .NET technologies
- Demonstrated knowledge in working with medium-to-large scale relational databases.
- Expert level SQL Skills – Microsoft SQL Server experience is a plus.
- Experience with ETL Tools – Pentaho Kettle experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with ORM – MyBatis experience is a plus.
- Ability to work in all phases of the product lifecycle, from requirements gathering to design, testing, and implementation.
- Ability to learn new technologies and techniques as necessary.
- Familiarity with the sport of baseball, baseball-specific data, modern statistical techniques, and sabermetric analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership and self-direction.
- Demonstrated project management, problem-solving, and teaching abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate difficult and complex concepts to colleagues possessing a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Team player.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with NoSQL Databases.
- Knowledge of streaming video.
- Mobile development including Android and iOS native applications and hybrid applications.

Responsibilities:
- Use STATS program to provide video analysis to coaches and players.
- Utilize proprietary systems to create scouting reports.
- Prepare video hardware and scouting reports for team road trips.
- Record games for team database.
- Various other tasks within the Major League clubhouse and video room.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate must be at least a college senior, recent graduate (within 6 months).
- The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ideal candidate must be proficient with Microsoft computer applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- The ideal candidate must have excellent customer service skills.
- The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational skills.
- The ideal candidate must be available full-time.
- The ideal candidate must be willing to work longs hours, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Position: Detroit Tigers Baseball Operations Minor League Video Intern
Location: Lakeland, Fla.
Description:
This position is designed to assist with day-to-day department activities, projects, presentations and overall organization. The position runs from February-October 2018.
Responsibilities:
- Utilization of STATS software to chart, upload and download game information.
- Act as main video personnel for both Gulf Coast League teams.
- Assist in day-to-day video operations during Spring Training.
- Daily management of data collected from various affiliates throughout the Minor League season.
- Preparation of advance scouting documentation prior to each series.
- Assist scouting staff with video needs from local and televised games and workouts.
- Recording of any on-field activity as requested by Tigers staff.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate must be at least a college senior, recent graduate (within 6 months).
- The ideal candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational skills.
- The ideal candidate must have excellent attention to detail.
- The ideal candidate must have excellent knowledge of general baseball concepts.
- The ideal candidate must be available full-time.

- Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
