Nicholas Minnix Baseball Chat – 7/18/14
8:47 |
: Hello, everybody! I’ll be with you at the top of the hour, as always. I have been going to about an hour and a half for these, but today I won’t go much beyond the requisite hour, visiting family, hope you understand. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say and ask! |
8:57 |
: And, my sincere apologies: I changed the start time of my event initially … but not the time zone! So now we’re all set. |
8:59 |
Among the teams who are in the hunt for a RP which would not have Soria as a closer? |
8:59 |
: Gonna go ahead and get started. … I’d say LAD definitely. Initially, I’m going to believe that Detroit wouldn’t, either. Will depend on Nathan’s performance after a would-be deal, I expect, tho. |
8:59 |
I just traded Evan Longoria and a 5th rounder for Carlos Santana and Michael Brantley in my 5-keeper Keeper League. Good deal? |
9:01 |
: Um, yes? Really, it’s hard to say. Longoria or Santana is best player in the deal? I think this is a career year for Brantley, easily, and there is no more upside. Maybe Santana is close to Longo, he’s younger, so that’s good. |
9:01 |
I’m very interested in Joc Pederson’s potential arrival. Defensively, the Dodgers have to do it right? There’s gotta be a Kemp taker, right? |
9:01 |
: Sorry, don’t see it this year, except as a bench player in September. |
9:02 |
My initial thoughts are Richards v. SEA, Arrieta @ ARI and v. STL, Wood v. SD, and Kennedy @ ChC. |
9:03 |
: Arrieta wouldn’t sit for me, Richards hard to as well, but vs. DET you might. Tought calls otherwise, I’d like Kennedy vs. both opponents off the top of my head, esp. vs. CHC. |
9:03 |
Would you drop Leonys Martin for any of the following (assuming they’re healthy) in a 5X5 dynasty 12-teamer: Pollock, James Jones, Kevin Keirmaier, Jennings? |
9:04 |
: Man … Jennings baffles. I’d rather own Jennings in a dynasty league, though. I like Martin about as much as or more than the others, though. |
9:04 |
Nick what are your thoughts on Matt Adams ROS? His peripherals scare me outside of his LD% and his supressed HR/FB%. He’s like jumbo Adam Jones this year. |
9:04 |
: I like him. Like him like him like him. Liked him coming in, so I have to stick with that. I suppose you’re worried about BA regression — probably some, but will come with more power, so, live with it. |
9:05 |
wOBA treats infield singles different than any other single? If not, why is that? Thanks |
9:07 |
: I believe it does not. As for why, I do not know. It’s a good question and one I think you should ask Neil Weinberg here when you have the opportunity! |
9:07 |
MATT. DAMON. |
9:07 |
Are you in Delaware? If so, thanks for bringing the great weather. 495 closed btw. Keeper trade opinion. Would you trade cron and gausman for Donaldson? Thanks. |
9:07 |
: Haha, no, not this time. I’m in Virginia! |
9:09 |
: Thanks for the travel tip tho. Oooh. Hmmm. It depends, if it’s a limited keeper, say only for a couple of years, then I would, because I love Donaldson and he’s a 3B. If it’s a long-term thing more so, probably not. Gausman doesn’t do much for either of it, to me. If it’s an AL league, I’d probably stick with Cron, especially long term. Not elite, but solid bat. |
9:09 |
What are your thoughts on Matt Shoemaker as a fantasy SP? Thanks. |
9:09 |
: I like him. I don’t have any shares. Eno has convinced me that there’s a lot to like and speculate on. However, he’s a matchup play in 15-team mixed leagues until we get more reliable data on him. |
9:09 |
Why do you think the Cubs are moving Baez to 2B when Alcantara is holding his own in the bigs? Making room for Russell at AAA, or does Alcantara move to the OF eventually? Thanks for your insight. |
9:10 |
: Sounds as if it’s more to accommodate Russell than to do with Alcantara. It’s easy to move Baez because he’s unlikely to stick at SS, regardless of where they go at SS. |
9:10 |
Looking into stashing Ken Giles but is there any team out there that would realistically trade for Papelbon? |
9:11 |
: Rumor is LAD is really interested. I just don’t see him getting moved. LAD are crazy, who knows. But I don’t see him getting moved. I could be wrong, no doubt. |
9:11 |
Our 20+ yr keeper league is strongly considering moving to Fantrax, which I found after I read your category preferences piece. You have clout! |
9:12 |
: LOL, awesome. I do like the site quite a bit. I think it’s a hidden gem of fantasy league hosts. |
9:12 |
: I have heard of others who have had issues. I won’t hide that. I have been happy. I do not speak for FG or anyone else here, FYI. |
9:13 |
If Soria does go to one of those teams, is the following the correct rank of speculative closers (need saves): Feliz (Frasor was traded), Ramirez, Benoit, Balfour, Giles? |
9:14 |
: I think that’s fair. |
9:14 |
Did Drew Pomeranz show enough this season (along with his pedigree) to hold onto him (12-team dynasty) in the hopes that he reclaims a rotation spot next season? Thanks for your advice. |
9:14 |
: It depends on how deep your bench is — very deep, why not. Any other depth, no point, because he should be cheap again next year. |
9:14 |
How do you view Ellsbury moving forward? Still t10 OF? Hasn’t really seen any of the hoped-for Yankee Stadium bump. |
9:16 |
: I’m a bit disappointed. I think he’s a safe t25 OF, it’s hard to say because of what you cited. I think t10 is still easily within the sights. But in the 3rd spot, he hasn’t run quite as often – still should net 35-40 SBs, hope he adds RBI to make up for it. Maybe HR, would be nice. |
9:16 |
In my dynasty league i just shipped JD Martinez for Mookie Betts. My OF consists of Harper/Yelich/Cespedes and my ss is Segura. Did I do ok? |
9:17 |
: Yes, I think it’s a fair attempt to stock up. Martinez may have shelf life next year, but it’s a good play. I like your future outlook I think. |
9:17 |
Trading gausman for trumbo/Quintana in a dynasty is a no brainier, right? |
9:17 |
: I’d say. I’d trade Gausman for Quintana straight up. |
9:17 |
The O’s are OPS’ing .775 on the road. Should I start Samardzija against them at O.co? |
9:17 |
: Yes. I don’t bench Samardzija. At home is sweet. |
9:18 |
Would you start Verlander @Ari or a two-start Wheeler @AD, @Mil? Points league. |
9:19 |
: Phew, I’m gonna say Wheeler. Wheeler has for whatever reason not walked nearly as many on the road. Verlander not quite ironed out yet. |
9:19 |
ROS please rank- Ventura, Gausman, Odorizzi, Wheeler, DeGrom? |
9:19 |
: Ventura, … oooh, tough … I like Wheeler, so I will be biased, then DeGrom, Odorizzi, Gausman. |
9:20 |
Papelbon for Kemp – who hangs up first, LAD or PHI? |
9:20 |
: LOL … Actually, they might listen then, haha. |
9:20 |
Could you please rank de Grom, Duffy, Stroman, Gausman, Hutchison, Odorizzi and Hahn ROS for roto? I know it’s a tall order but with Minor and Shields going in the tank I need some SP help. Thanks Nicholas! |
9:21 |
: Stroman, DeGrom, Hahn, Duffy, Odorizzi, Hutchison, Gausman. |
9:21 |
Zimmerman/Lohse or Pearce/Samardzija? |
9:22 |
: Ryan Z, right? I’d go with the former side, vacuum. |
9:22 |
Will Evan Longoria continue to be my fantasy LVP in the second half? Both projections set his ROS ISO well below his career average. Wondering if I should try to sell based on name value. |
9:22 |
: Man, he’s a disappointment. It depends … but I would be willing to shop his name, yes. |
9:23 |
: Depends on what you can get! |
9:23 |
Any news on Cashner’s timetable, and would you pick him up in a monthly draft at the beginning of August to replace one of the following: Smyly, Shelby Miller, Pomeranz, Gausman, Salazar? Dynasty leage and I’m starting to build for next year. Thank a lot! |
9:24 |
: No update I’ve seen, wasn’t expected to be much more than the min. initially. No surprise that it’s not. Miller, Pomeranz I’d definitely consider. Pom just because no job is 1st. |
9:24 |
Who ends up being the best contributor ROS: ECab, B. Lawrie, or Bonnifacio? Deep 5×5 |
9:25 |
: Argh … I wish I could say with confidence. ECab, because he’s healthy right now and will play no doubts. |
9:25 |
Just took over a dynasty league team that’s in dead last in almost every category – just wasn’t maintained by the previous owner and has lots of prospect talent. What’s the best way to trade prospects in a league like this and what should I be reaching for in terms of trading guys like Baez, Gary Sanchez, Matt Davidson, etc? |
9:28 |
: If you’re in dead last, you want prospects, to some degree, haha. It’s difficult to answer, but if I deal Baez, killer upside, I want a surefire everyday fantasy player. Sanchez, maybe similar. Davidson, he’s more of a fringe hopeful, IMO, if you get something useful for him. But in your state, I might just hold him. It really depends on what you can get, not what you expect to get. Make offers or put them on the block. |
9:28 |
Dynasty League. My Andrew McCutchen and Dellin Betances for Polanco, Machado, Profar and Appel. my only good infielder is Rendon. Should I take it? |
9:30 |
: How long dynasty? McCutchen is the best player there for the next couple of years, at least. If you keep so many that you have no doubts that you’d keep the 3 hitters every year for a few, and you’re in sell mode, then I can’t argue against it. Cutch might be the best player ever in that deal too, tho. … Hard for anyone to top him. Good gets, all, tho, what you are getting. |
9:30 |
Where would you rank David Dahl among OF prospects? Or which tier if that’s more doable on the fly in a chat. Thanks. |
9:33 |
: How about this? I think based on my very limited knowledge of him that he’s very raw. He’s so far away, I discount that more than others, let’s say a 3rd-tier type? Upside is great, not immense but great. |
9:33 |
: I’m at 9:03 stamp, all. |
9:33 |
Start Shields tonight in Boston? He’s been better lately but he has a bad history in Fenway. |
9:34 |
: This isn’t an easy call. Vacuum, I would. Shallow league, maybe you reconsider, OK. But I normally start my guys like him, regardless. No desire to kick myself later. He’s been better, BOS has a bad offense lately. I’d risk it. |
9:34 |
What do you think happens to the Boston’s OF when Victorino comes back? Who gets put back down to minors? Cut drew move Mookie to SS? |
9:35 |
: They won’t cut Drew, I don’t think. I suspect Nava. They hope to trade Gomes, I believe, so whatever it is may not be for long. |
9:35 |
How good do you expect Arrieta to be ROS? I know we’re supposed to trust the projections, but a 4.01 ERA the rest of the way seems high. Can we reasonably expect a 3.50/1.20 with a K per inning? |
9:36 |
: The projections don’t give him credit for advances in his arsenal. I think he will beat his projections, and your #s sound likelier than ZiPS/Steamer. |
9:36 |
think austin jackson stays in the leadoff spot? him or duda ROS? |
9:36 |
: I’d like to see that. I think Kinsler is a more suitable 2-hole hitter. |
9:37 |
: And, yes, I think so, but it’s anyone’s guess. |
9:37 |
Which starters do you think will have a low ERA and WHIP in the second half? |
9:37 |
: Um … Clayton Kershaw. |
9:38 |
: I guess you want some corrections or something … I think Zimmermann will be even better than he’s been. I like Cobb to rebound, a lot. What a wide open ?. |
9:38 |
Which somewhat disappointing 24 year old do you prefer for dynasty pts league, Heyward or Hosmer (either would be my DH)? |
9:38 |
: Heyward |
9:38 |
: Just more upside, esp. at his position |
9:38 |
Is Russell Martin a top five catcher in baseball by real life value? |
9:40 |
: This is a guess, I don’t have all the data on-hand, but I’d have to say so. Pitch-framing and defensively he’s top-notch, last time I saw the #s, and that’s his long-time reputation. He puts in such extensive work to prepare with his staff. His bat is maybe average to a little above for the position if he keeps up the BA (not likely), but some of what he does there is just a bonus. |
9:40 |
Are there any similarities with what JD Martinez has done to his swing/plate discipline, and what Edwin Encarnacion did? |
9:43 |
: I cannot say for sure off-hand. I’d speculate not in terms of discipline, because nothing in the numbers suggests it to me, and in terms of that, hitters rarely change much. Martinez, a lot of his changes were made to his swing, the entire process, overhauled. So there might be, there. I haven’t compared them. |
9:43 |
Thanks for taking my Q. What is the most likely scenario for Piscotty to see significant playing time in St. Louis next year? |
9:45 |
: Allen Craig becomes expendable to STL, or they think of him as a bench bat/platoon player. Or they trade Matt Adams. I’m not sure. I think he’s just likelier to be a yoyo initially, or platoon player, f/t role possible by 2016. Guessing. |
9:45 |
Can Gillaspie and Coghlan keep this up? They’ve been pretty useful to slot into 3B with Donaldson not hitting. |
9:46 |
: To some extent, sure. Gillaspie will slow down. Coghlan’s #s could be projected forward, minus about 25 pts in BA and a good bit of the power. I like the ROS projections for both, fairly. |
9:46 |
: Nothing special |
9:47 |
Hey nick- please rank ROS. Arrieta, keuchel, odorizzi, Bauer, walker, stroman. Thanks! |
9:47 |
: Arrieta, Stroman, Bauer, Keuchel (altho health is a big determinant here), Odorizzi, Walker (scared his opportunity won’t come soon) |
9:48 |
What do you think winds up happening with the Angels’ bullpen? Will they stick with Smith, or do the Huston Street rumors have legs? |
9:48 |
: I think they trade for someone, but who IDK. Soria is a possibility, I think. In that case, Soria takes over. I think LAA want to trade for a Smith replacement if they can, yes. |
9:49 |
: I wouldn’t rule out Jason Grilli there, tho. They seem to have made progress with him. I think Smith isn’t closer ROS regardless, but it may take some time before he isn’t. |
9:50 |
Thoughts on C. Davis? His LD% and babip suggest he should be well above where he currently sits. 2nd half buy low?? |
9:50 |
: Yes. |
9:50 |
Suddenly find myself with three technically minor league pitchers in a mixed 14 team H2H redraft: Walker, Salazar, and Gausman. Will any of them fail to reward my perseverence? |
9:51 |
: Yes, probably, sadly. You listen to me too much, perhaps. Sorry. 🙁 Really, all of them are gambles in your format. I’m most optimistic about Salazar, but I’d feel most comfortable owning Walker, if that makes sense. |
9:51 |
10 team mixed league. Chasing wins, ERA and WHIP. i have quintana, gausman, ventura, porcello, bucholz and alex wood. would you drop any of them for Cashner or Cole, Kuroda, walker or skaggs?for Stout lovers Hinterland Luna Coffee Stout. |
9:51 |
: Yes, for Cashner or Cole, drop Gausman. |
9:52 |
: Whichever is back sooner, altho Cole I’m more confident will remain healthy. Coin toss. |
9:53 |
Do you see anything in Desmond Jennings’ peripherals to suggest he’s better than his current numbers, or still has some untapped upside? Thanks. |
9:54 |
: In his #s, no. In his previous performances, definitely. He may end up being a tease, surely possible. He’s 28 after this season, it’s closing in on that. Not a bust, just disappointing. I think some of it’s mental, just my opinion. He’s not very aggressive, either. |
9:55 |
Should I drop rondon or Ramirez? |
9:55 |
: For something better, sure, otherwise, don’t know why you would. |
9:55 |
Anibal for Ross and j smith? |
9:55 |
: Latter, I suppose, unless you’re chasing wins and want to play that game. Worth a few more K’s, some SV for a while. … Vacuum. |
9:56 |
where do you see Murphy ending up? Colon? |
9:57 |
: Murphy, geez, only place that makes sense IMO is SF. Colon … I’m going out on a limb and saying TOR. Which I wouldn’t like, haha. |
9:57 |
Assuming we’re thinking ahead to 2015 with teh Mets their staff looks something like: Harvey, Wheeler, Gee, Niese, Syndergaard, with a BP of Mejia, Parnell, deGrom, Montero, Edgin, Torres. Mets should trade Colon. Any specific teams you can think of that would be a potential match and who would that potential match be? |
9:58 |
: TOR! Haha. DeGrom is SP material, to me. Gee might not be around then, have to check his team control sitch, may be way off on that. Syndergaard, they’re in no rush, tho, so slow down just a little. |
10:01 |
Does Shelby Miller need to develop another pitch to stop sucking? And is that doable in the off-season? Thanks a lot for your thoughts. |
10:02 |
: It might help. His fastball sucks, he needs to focus on commanding it better, I’d think. I’d wonder if the Cards don’t eventually try to turn him into a sinker guy. |
10:02 |
wOBA sees a single for the runs it creates, not for where on the field it landed |
10:02 |
: Thanks for the help! |
10:02 |
If Street gets dealt to the Angels, would you dump him for Benoit (assuming Benoit stays in SD)? I hate the Sciosciapath! |
10:02 |
: LOL. … Um, it’s 50-50. More chances in LAA, plenty more. |
10:02 |
Thoughts on Mark Appeal and him having a rough season |
10:03 |
: Thoughts: He’s a ways away. He may not be all he was cracked up to be, so far hasn’t shown a special pitch, to my understanding. |
10:03 |
Yesterday was a pretty great night for the Cubs’ farm system. http://www.baseballamerica…. |
10:03 |
Dude, thanks! That was a long, annoying question. Didn’t expect to get it answered. BTW, keep up the good work on the podcast. |
10:04 |
: Thank you! We are doing what we can. Baby steps. IDK which ? was your long and annoying one, but we like to answer. |
10:04 |
Thoughts on B. Butler v. Austin Jax for ROS in a 14 team roto mixer… |
10:04 |
: A-Jax, please |
10:04 |
Let’s say Ben Zobrist ends up in Seattle. Which Mariner(s) lose the most playing time as a result? |
10:04 |
: Ackley, has to be, IMO, somehow. I’d be a tad concerned about Brad Miller, though. |
10:04 |
: Maybe they move Hart to LF and Zobrist to RF. |
10:05 |
Assuming both are closing in a couple weeks, who would you prefer, Benoit or Giles? Thanks! |
10:05 |
: Benoit, just a simpler answer. |
10:05 |
: Because he’s done it a lot … Haha. |
10:05 |
I’m last in AVG/SB, first in HR/RBI. Roto redraft. could use some help on pitching. my cespedes/anibal/sonny for his ryu/quintana/doolittle? |
10:06 |
James Jones…the AL’s Ben Revere? Better or worse? |
10:06 |
: If you need pitching, why trade some good pitching away? it seems like Cespedes for Doolittle, in essence, too much to give up for me. I’d want a pretty good SP straight up for Cespedes if I could get it. Don’t see your AVG/SB help there, so that’s my thought. |
10:07 |
: Better. Says sad Phils fan. 🙁 |
10:07 |
Jose Fernandez. Forecast for 2015? |
10:07 |
: Off the top … 3.25 ERA, 9 K/9 |
10:07 |
: In … 75 IP. They take no chances. I might be generous. |
10:07 |
15 team 5×5: Thoughts on Cruz? He’s been awesome, but do you sell over DL concerns that could derail a run for the flag? |
10:08 |
: I’d consider it, surely. It’s not would I, it’s what can I get if I do. Ask. |
10:08 |
Hi Nick. If the Mariners are really interested in Price or Zobrist, what prospects are on the block? Specifically, do you think Peterson goes to TB? Thanks! |
10:09 |
: I don’t think so. Nick Franklin is said to be part of the deal, for Zobrist, right now. It’s a no-brainer. SEA probably needs to add to that for Zobrist alone, probably a mid-level pitcher. Just my amateur guess. |
10:09 |
Hey Nicholas. Any news on Burch Smith? I can’t seem to find anything. Does he still have long term potential? |
10:10 |
: No news that I’ve seen. I believe so, yes, a No. 3 type SP in SD, I think. Unlikely to see him in the majors again 2015, I expect, but Sept. possible I’m sure. |
10:10 |
what part of philly are you in? we should meet for lunch! |
10:10 |
: I would be glad to, haha, but I’m in VA. I haven’t been back to Philly in a couple of years. But I’d love to get up there again soon. |
10:11 |
Would you drop Willingham (rotating at UT, 12 tm 5×5 H2H OBP) for the chance to pick up T.Bauer ROS? Current SPs are Scherzer, Samardzija, Ryu, Kluber, Kennedy, A. Wood. |
10:12 |
: You’re well off in SPs it seems. Do you need pitching or hitting more? I love Bauer, he’s a tad maddening. 1 for 1, it’s roughly the same, it’s more about need. Willingham traded to a better situation would intrigue me as an owner. |
10:12 |
I was looking at ROS projections for BJ Upton versus Kipnis and was shocked that BJ has better numbers other than BA … what gives? |
10:14 |
: I wouldn’t call them better, pretty even, with Kipnis besting Upton in AVG naturally. 6 or 7 HR, 10 SB? I’d say, regardless, it says sad face about Kipnis, haha. I’m not convinced that he hits for a lot of power in the 2nd half, either, but there’s nothing I’ve seen one way or another to determine it confidently. |
10:14 |
Currently in 2nd place in Ottoneu 5X5 league, have an offer of $13 Moss and $30 Braun for $15 Samardzija, $6 G. Polanco, and $3 Ryu. Moss would replace my Hosmer/Laroche at first; my other OF are Trout, Bautista, Gordon, Heyward in OF. SPs still on roster would be Bumgarner, Fister, Kluber, Stroman, Skaggs, Kuroda, and Keuchel. Is Braun healthy enough to make this deal? |
10:15 |
: Man, that would tempt me, if I’m in the running. I’d want to take that chance on Braun. Have seen no indication that he’s any more of a health risk than he’s been already. The upgrade at 1B and over Heyward combined seems immense. Hope you have a little skill in adding a P if needed, which I’d rather try to do than find bats. |
10:15 |
Garrett Richards: Top-15 Starting pitcher ROS? |
10:17 |
: Man, I’ll say no, just because there are a lot of good pitchers. But I don’t expect much if any real negative regression, if that’s what you’re asking. |
10:17 |
Walden or Giles ROS in a S+HD league? |
10:18 |
: I’d be tempted to go with Giles just because he’s less risky in terms of peripheral performance, let the SV+HLD fall where they may, each is a good candidate for HLD at least. |
10:18 |
If I’m the Phillies, I don’t hang up the phone if LAD offers Kemp for Papelbon and cash. |
10:18 |
: Can’t disagree |
10:19 |
: Although at that point it might be a straight contract for contract, no $$ involved |
10:19 |
Expectations for Cliff Lee upon return? |
10:20 |
: It better be better than Phillippe Aumont and Tyson Gillies, that’s all I’m saying. One top-level prospect should be doable, if he gets in a couple of good starts after his return. |
10:20 |
Is Maikel Franco still in the Phillies plans for a late callup at least? Thanks. |
10:20 |
: I have my doubts. |
10:20 |
can you explain why some of these players that seem to be on web gems everyday (springer, cutch) have such bad defensive ratings? Thanks! |
10:22 |
: Haha. Well, it’s because routes and range are more important to ratings than highlights. I’m a little surprised that Cutch isn’t rated OK, I think. I think UZR in particular doesn’t reward and in fact gets hurt by gambling. |
10:23 |
Does Jake Lamb have anything left to prove at AA? Does he take over in AZ next year? |
10:24 |
: I’d say you’re asking because you think so. I think given his age and track, he’s probably not long for the level. To say take over … I think he’ll have a legit opp to win the job in ST, how about that? I don’t speculate on takeovers until we get close to that time. He should have a very good shot. |
10:24 |
Just dealt Kazmir for Cobb and Upton. Just at a glance, did I do ok? |
10:24 |
: BJ? No. Justin? Surely. |
10:25 |
: But you may not be hurt, if regression takes its course, so it’s not a terrible deal, if that’s your thought process, and it’s B.J. I just don’t like to be so definitive, yes or no. |
10:26 |
Am languishing in sixth place. My pitching is strong but my offense is weak. Please give me reason that one or more of my key guys will go on a tear and drive me up the standings: CarGo, Trumbo, Napoli, Rios, Ozuna. Thanks for the chat. |
10:27 |
: They all could. I would be willing to see where they can take me, if that’s your ?. If you have excess pitching or a way to flip it for another bat, I’d consider it, strongly. Wouldn’t rest on laurels with pitching, can make that up more easily, IMO. |
10:27 |
Starting Cliff Lee his first time out? |
10:29 |
: Had to look up the opponent. I think I would, SF has scuffled a bit. I don’t care about his rehab results, if that’s what concerns you. I think Lee can get to 7 IP regardless, fairly easily. |
10:29 |
Miley or Shoemaker ROS? |
10:29 |
: Oooh, that’s a good question. I’m going to take Miley, I’ve been believing turnaround coming … finally started to happen. Think he could be kinda strong. |
10:29 |
What could I get for Yan Gomes in mixed 16 team? Looking for a SS or 3B. |

: Just a tough question. Best way to know is to put him out there. Say you’re willing to trade a C, not him specifically. Then see what’s being offered, and say, I think that matches up with Gomes, how about it? I’d say … maybe a struggling Segura? That’s optimistic. No. Maybe a Bonifacio? Off the top of my head, hard to say. Everth maybe. I think I’m being too optimistic, other than Bonifacio. |

ROS Cashner or Pineda? Next season? Thanx. |
10:31 |
: Cashner, Cashner. Also, Cashner. |
10:31 |
What team will have a huge second half? |
10:32 |
: Tampa Bay! Or, if not, … Pittsburgh, I think they may come on stronger. Which surprises me to say that, coming in, had my doubts. |

Whats with all of these ranking questions? Get on the ball…Man! |

Matt Carpenter for J.D. Martinez in 12 team dynasty. Have Rendon and Arenado at 3B, not so much OF. Sound good? Thanks |
10:34 |
: IDK, which one did you get? Haha. Oh I see, Martinez. Well, I’d prefer something more reliable in return for a reliable Carpenter, but … he loses that 2B eligibility, so then he’s kind of just a guy, maybe. Hey, for a decent year of Martinez, if he hits again, which is certainly a decent possibility IMO, why not. It’s not bad. |

Fernando Rodney has been surprisingly good for the Mariners this year although I assume he may be a one year stop gap. Who do you see as their closer of the future? Last year at this time I would have thought it would be Farquhar but now both Medina and Leone kind of intrigue me. |
10:36 |
: I don’t think anyone is ever safe to call Closer of the Future in Seattle. I liked Rodney, I get the impression I was one of the few more and more, haha. Stopgap … only if they’re in a position where they’re out of it and have to trade him by the deadline next year. Which is a good possibility, for Seattle, in almost any year. … |

Is this the Gausman/Odorizzi chat? 😉 |
10:37 |
: Yep, I’m starting to get sick of Gausman, even. 😀 |
10:38 |
: OK, folks, it’s time for me to wrap up. I’m sorry if I didn’t get to your question. I went ahead for 90+ minutes again anyway, sorry to my family. I’ll pick it back up next week, same bat time, same bat channel. Enjoy the weekend, and the open of the post-break run! Ciao. |
