One Night Only: Hot Game Previews for June 15th

Hold on to your you-know-whats.

This edition of One Night Only contains:

1. Previews of varying sizes for these four games: Florida at Philadelphia (Game Two), Florida at Philadelphia (Game One), San Diego at Colorado, and Boston at Tampa Bay.

2. Pitcher and Team NERD scores for every one of tonight’s games.

3. Some free association, and then some association that’s actually kinda expensive.

Florida (5) at Philadelphia (2) | 19:05 ET
Starting Pitchers
Marlins: Anibal Sanchez (9)
85.1 IP, 9.18 K/9, 2.53 BB/9, 43.8% GB, 3.03 xFIP, 81 xFIP-

Regarding Your Socks, Where They’ll Probably Be After This Game
Off.

How They’ll Probably Have Gotten That Way
By being knocked.

By Whom or What They’ll Have Been Knocked
By the quality of the pitching performances, I was thinking.

Regarding the Etymology of the That Term
From the OED:

Regarding C. Beecher, Who That Is
The sister of Harriet Beecher Stowe (author, Uncle Tom’s Cabin), among other things, it appears.

Regarding Roy Halladay, His Excellence
Only five qualified pitchers this season have an xFIP- equal to or below Roy Halladay’s cumulative xFIP- (73) since 2002 .

Regarding Roy Halladay, His Excellence, Part II
Those five pitchers, as follows: David Price (73 xFIP-), James Shields (72), Cliff Lee (68), Cole Hamels (68), and Roy Frigging Halladay (63).

Three Other Games
Florida (5) at Philadelphia (2) | 13:05 ET
This is actually the first game of the same doubleheader in which the featured game (above) is the second. Marlin pitcher Elih Villanueva makes his major-league debut. Serious command guy, but with just a 5.8 K/9 between Double- and Triple-A combined (just over 250 IP), nor, it appears, the ground-ball rate to make up for it.

San Diego (5) at Colorado (7) | 15:10 ET
Charlie Blackmon Watch!

Yesterday: 2-for-4, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 K, 1/1 SB.

Current: 31 PA, .290/.290/.323 (.321 BABIP) .305 wOBA, 80 wRC+, 0.0% BB, 9.7% K, 0.1 WAR.

Future: Saving everything.

Boston (7) at Tampa Bay (6) | 19:10 ET
Jeremy Hellickson (4) is always wearing this expression on the mound that’s like, “Seriously? You’re gonna make me throw another pitch? Okay, fiiiiiine.”

Also Playing
These games are very likely playing at some kind of sporty channel near you. (Pitching probables and game times from MLB.com.)

pNERD = Pitcher NERD
tNERD = Team NERD
Game = Time and Average NERD for Game
* = Fewer than 20 IP, NERD of 5 (or 10 for debuts)

What happened to the morning after recaps? =(

Is there some way that you guys could have a substitute for the previews/recaps when Joe Pawl or you are away? They’re enjoyable to read and give people a reason to visit every day. It’s unfair to expect two people to do it day in and day out, but as a site feature you could rotate in and out other people to help out.
