The Best of FanGraphs: 10 Most Popular Posts of 2014

It’s the end of the year. At the end of the year, we like to look back before we look forward to the upcoming year. In that vein, I thought it would be instructive — and perhaps a little bit fun — to pull the most popular posts from our fair site for this calendar year. If you read the Best Of post each week (or even some weeks, or maybe you glanced at it while your significant other was in the dressing room that one time and you were suuuuper bored???), you know that I like to throw a little shine at all of the blogs in our family, so we’ll also have a spot for the most popular piece for each blog as well, if they didn’t reach the actual top 10. Onward!

Wait, before we move onward, a note — just because I’m using the “Best of” post here, doesn’t mean that these were necessarily the best posts. They’re simply the most popular. I am grouping them under the “Best of” banner because it’ll be easier to find them at a later date. You know, if you’re curious to find them again at a later date (I know I will be). OK, onward!!!

FanGraphs After Dark Chat – 12/16/14

9:24
Jeff Zimmerman: Hi everyone, Paul is going to be a bit late and I will start this chat

9:27
Comment From Larry Bernandez
Do you think Scherzer is going to be disappointed and not get the offer he wanted? It seems like not too many teams are that interested in paying his large price.

9:28
Jeff Zimmerman: Just a few teams would be able to afford him to begin with. I think Lester’s deal set the low bar. I expect Scherzer to get a bit more.

9:28
Comment From Ceej
Which version of the 2014 Salazar are we more likely to see in 2015?

9:30
Jeff Zimmerman: I really don’t know, hopefully the second half version when he threw strikes. I watched one of his starts for this week’s Quick Looks and his defense really let him down a few times.

9:30
Comment From season tickets
whats the next big move the Os make?

Do The Red Sox Have a Ground Ball Fetish?

The Red Sox have tried to erase the painful feelings of their botched Jon Lester negotiations by completing a flurry of pitcher transactions. While that’s unlikely to fool people who still just want Lester back, the pitchers acquired (or reportedly acquired) — Wade Miley, Rick Porcello and Justin Masterson — all have one thing in common in that they generate a lot of ground balls. Before that, they acquired Joe Kelly, who also generates a great deal of ground balls. Are ground balls the hip new thing on Yawkey Way?

FanGraphs After Dark Chat – 12/2/14

6:07
Paul Swydan: Hi everybody! WINTER MEETINGS!!!!

Jeff and I will be here at 9 pm ET to talk all the sexy rumors that you want to talk. Well, Jeff might be a little late, but we’ll allow it because he’s special.

In any case, fill up the queue and I’ll pop off a few polls, and we’ll rendezvous here soon! Ciao!

9:03
Paul Swydan: OK, enough trying to catch up on rumors, let’s get to this. Jeff will be along after he makes a bloody mary.

9:03
Comment From Park Chan-hos Beard
Should the rockies try to trade for McCann? is that feasible? would the yankees give him up, considering his less than stellar year last year?

9:05
Paul Swydan: It’s definitely feasible from the standpoint of “do the Rockies have enough talent to land McCann.” From a “should they try,” ….. I can see where you’re going, but I think there’s probably a better solution for the Rockies. They can’t afford to pay a lot in trade for McCann and then have him be bad again. Or rather, not as good as expected.

9:05
Jeff Zimmerman: I think they could, but wouldn’t be able to make a reasonable trade to get the Yankees to move. McCann is in NY for a while longer IMO.

9:05
Comment From Ethan
Will we see the flood gates open on trades and signings this year like we did last year in the week before the winter meetings?
