2009 Minor League Stats

We’ve got the 2009 minor league stats available right this second in the leaderboards and player pages. I also made a few minor changes to the leaderboards that make the standard/advanced sections contain the same stats as the major league ones. Nice to keep things consistent and all.

These will continue to be updated daily.

Now that all the early season fires have been put out, I can start working on new additions!

2009 UZR: Updated

The 2009 UZR fielding data through last night’s games is now available. Remember that it’s a really small sample size. UZR should be updated at least every Sunday.

I believe everything is now running pretty smoothly on the site after what was an extremely chaotic first week behind the scenes. Last thing that needs to get done is minor league data and I’m hoping to kick that off starting tomorrow.

Twitter Feeds Working

All the twitter feeds are now up and running. Hopefully we won’t experience any further issues! Do remember these are still all in beta. For those of you who are hearing about this for the first time, we have twitter feeds available for each and every team that transmit the game state, last play, and win probability.

There’s the full feed (every play) and the quick feed (end of inning, score change, and important plays). Here are the twitter links:

Live Data Working!

After the outage yesterday, live data will be up and running again today. We are working on the twitter feeds and expect to have those working again sometime today or tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!

Twitter Update

Well, we’re having some issues with the twitter feeds, so I suspect we will not have any live twitter updates until tomorrow, maybe end of the week at the latest. Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to have everything up and running as soon as we can.

All live data on the site should be working well again.

Plate Discipline with Averages

Added a quick little feature that people seem to have wanted for a while now. You can now click on the “show average” button:

picture-1

If you click on the button it brings up the averages for each year:

picture-2

You can then click on the show averages button again to hide the average data.

I realize it’s a little tricky to read and there are definitely better ways I can think of doing it, but I feel this is a nice stopgap until I can do things how I would have preferred. This will probably make its way into some of the other tables too, like the advanced data section.

2009 Up And Running

After a bit of a delay, looks like everything is up and running with 2009 stats (all of one game). UZR is the only thing not yet updated and I’m hoping to start updating that either later this week, or during the weekend.

We had issues with live data last night, but we believe them to be resolved and plan to start having all the live games starting today. There might be a few issues to work through in the first week, but hopefully everything will 100% working by week 2 at the very latest. Thanks for your patience.

Oh, and as a peace offering we’ve snuck in 2002-2004 pitch type & velocity data.

Live Twitter Feeds (Beta)

For those of you who visited FanGraphs for the first time this off-season, you may not realize that we track every game’s win probability in real time during the season. This year, we’re also going to “tweet” every play and win probability in real time! We have twitter feeds set up for each team, so you can follow your favorite team on your cell phone or through a twitter application of your choice.

We will be tweeting all 162 games for each team, the all-star game, and the playoffs.

There are two types of feeds for each team. The full version, and the lite version. The full version is every single play and the lite version is end of inning plays, significant score changes, and any play that changes the win probability more than 10%. I suspect the full feed will have about 70-100 updates a game, while the lite version will have 20-30 a game.

Consider these feeds in beta! I have tested them a bunch of times this off-season, but there still might be some issues. I’ll definitely take suggestions on these feeds but remember there’s a 140 character limit on tweets.

Example Tweet: 2-9, 0 % to Win, Top 9, 3 Outs, ___, Jay Payton flied out to second .

It gives you the score (with the team your followings score first), the % chance the team your following is going to win the game, the inning, the outs, the base state ( ___ means no one on, _23 would be runners on 2nd and 3rd), and the last play(s).

You can sign up for as many feeds as you like, but be warned, you will receive two tweets per game update if two teams are playing each other and you are subscribed to both feeds.

The Feeds: The full feed is followed by an _fg, so the yankees full feed would be “yankees_fg”. The quick feeds are followed by a _qf so it would be “yankees_qf”

Team: Full Feed Quick Feed

ZiPS Projections!

The ZiPS projections, courtesy of Dan Szymborski and Baseball Think Factory are now available in the player pages, the sortable projections area, and the customizable my projections area!

You can download a spreadsheet of the projections here: ZiPS 2009: Build 2

This completes the five different projection systems we’ll carry for this season, assuming there’s no major updates.

Player Links: Beta

I was feeling the player comments was a bit of a false start, so in an effort to try out some new features, it’s been replaced by the Player Links section, which I think could be particularly useful for both our readers and writers.

For any player you can enter in a link to a particular article that is relevant to that player along with a brief description of the article or short quote from the article. Feel free to submit links to your own work as well as links to whatever news, analysis, or commentary you feel would be useful to FanGraphs visitors for that particular player.
