Contract Crowdsourcing 2013-14: Phil Hughes

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market.

I would love for the braves to go after him as a reliever, although I think san diego (or some west coast team with a big ball park) may take a 1 year 3-4 million dollar flyer on him with a vesting option as a starter. I am highly confident major league caliber stuff is there, but he may be best for a inning or two rather than 5 or 6.

I’m interested to see what kind of deal he gets. Obviously, after the year he had there’s no way he’ll get the contract he hoped for, but I remember reading articles earlier this year that mentioned the Anibel Sanchez contract when referencing him. 1 year, 3-4 million would be a tough pill for him to swallow.
