Contract Crowdsourcing 2018-19: Ballot 1 of 7

Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2018-19 free-agent market.

Below are links to ballots for 10 of this year’s free agents — in this case, a collection of catchers, first basemen, and second basemen. Numbers are prorated to full season where noted. Projected WAR figures from final update of 2018 Steamer forecast.

after last year, i feel like there should be an option for “0” years.

I kept looking for that option with Joe Mauer, and I couldn’t find any. I wonder about Lucroy too, although the fact that he can actually play catcher should keep him in the league another couple years as a backup.

McCann as well.

I wonder what would happen if you just put McCann in a pure platoon situation. Maybe he’d recover enough of his hitting value to compensate for a guy who couldn’t hit lefties. Either way, McCann seems like he could be a backup for a year or two.

Agreed. I think there’s a decent chance Mauer and McCann both retire

I gave estimates for what I thought they’d be offered, which is still well above nothing, but I’m not sure either of them will continue to play.
