Emergency SCOUT Leaderboard Update
Below is an emergency update of the SCOUT batting leaderboard for the Venezuela Winter League. SCOUT+ is calculated using regressed home-run, walk, and strikeout rates, where 100 is average and above 100 is above average.

On SCOUT Batting Leader Carlos Rivero
One will notice that Nationals mostly third-base prospect Carlos Rivero — who’s hit four homers and posted an 8:8 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 45 at-bats — is now atop the SCOUT batting leaderboard for the VWL. One will likely also follow that observation with a question — a question very much like, “Who actually is Carlos Rivero?”
Here’s a very brief answer: Carlos Rivero was signed out of Venezuela for $100K as a 16-year-old in 2005 by Cleveland. He was claimed on waivers by Philadelphia in 2010. Then he was claimed again on waivers by Washington last winter. Originally a shortstop, now he’s more of a third baseman. He played all of 2012 in Triple-A as a 24-year-old, which is mostly age appropriate.

Contract Crowdsourcing: Three Left-Handed Relievers
Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. FanGraphs is asking readers to estimate the years and average annual dollar values likely to be received by certain notable free agents. We continue today with the three most notable left-handed relievers (probably). (Click here for more on the contract crowdsourcing project.)

Re: Darren Oliver – there is 100% certainty in my mind that the Jays will pick up that option. The real question, as I see it, is will Darren Oliver retire.
Assuming he doesn’t retire, the Jays project to have an excellent bullpen next year just based on who is presently on board. From the right side you have Janssen, Lincoln, Delabar plus whatever you get out of Santos, and Oliver and Loup from the right side. Toss in a long-man (Brett Cecil, perhaps) and one of the group of Crawford/Carreno/Frasor/Lyon coming back and you’ve got the makings of an excellent BP.
