Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. FanGraphs is asking readers to estimate the years and average annual dollar values likely to be received by certain notable free agents. We continue today with shortstops. (Click here for more on the contract crowdsourcing project.)

Here are three notes regarding the other Alex Gonzalez, the one who played from 1994 to 2006.

1. Four times he was ranked among baseball’s top-100 prospects by Baseball America: 1992 (No. 62), 1993 (No. 27), 1994 (No. 4), and 1995 (No. 8).

2. His career WAR total (10.7 in 5528 PA) actually rivals that of the still-active Alex Gonzalez (13.8 in 6098 PA).

You know, I think I may have assumed that both Alex Gonzalezes were the same guy. I don’t think I knew there were two.
