Meeting of the Corey Kluber Society, At Last
The Purpose of This Post
The purpose of this post is to announce another meeting — in this case, at 7:05pm ET today (Thursday) — of the Corey Kluber Society.
About the Corey Kluber Society
The Corey Kluber Society (CKS) — recognized by authorities such as Wikipedia and whomever designed this bumper sticker — is composed of individuals all bound by their singular enthusiasm for the works and days of Cleveland right-hander Corey Kluber.
How to Attend the Meeting
To attend tonight’s meeting, one needs merely to (a) situate himself in front of a broadcast of the Cleveland-Baltimore game and then (b) expose himself* to Corey Kluber.
*Spiritually, that is. Expose himself spiritually.
Minutes from Most Recent Meeting
Minutes from the most recent meeting of the Society are unavailable, on account of the present author was woefully absent from said meeting.
How the Author Was Occupying Himself Instead
Instead of situating himself in front of a broadcast of Kluber’s last start and then exposing himself* to Corey Kluber, the author was instead packing most of his earthly possessions into a U-Haul-brand moving truck.
*Spiritually, that is. Exposing himself spiritually.
How the Author Ought to Be Punished
The crime for missing one of Kluber’s starts is also the punishment, of course.
Preparatory Text: Emerson’s Representative Men
To prepare for Kluber’s start tonight, members of the Society should consider reading the entirety of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Representative Men and then adding a chapter to it called Kluber; or, the Pitcher.
Other Preparatory Text: Sickels’ Prospect Retrospective
Prospect analyst to the stars and recent FanGraphs Audio guest John Sickels wrote a prospect retrospective on Kluber this week that might be of some interest to the readership.
Today’s MLB.TV Free Game
Arizona at Washington | 16:05 ET
Patrick Corbin (102.2 IP, 98 xFIP-, 2.2 WAR) faces Stephen Strasburg (86.1 IP, 87 xFIP-, 1.7 WAR). Of note regarding Strasburg: while his park-adjusted ERA relative to league (ERA-) is ninth-lowest among qualified starters, Strasburg’s WAR as calculated by runs allowed is only fair (36th among qualifiers). The likely cause: Strasburg is first overall among those same qualified pitchers by unearned runs, tied with Milwaukee’s Wily Peralta, it seems, with nine.
Readers’ Preferred Broadcast: Washington Radio.
Today’s Complete Schedule
Here’s the complete schedule for all of today’s games, with our very proprietary watchability (NERD) scores for each one. Pitching probables and game times aggregated from MLB.com and RotoWire. The average NERD Game Score for today is 5.1.
