Meeting of the Corey Kluber Society Today
The Purpose of This Post
The purpose of this post is, firstly, to announce a meeting — in this case, at 7:05pm ET today (Wednesday) — of the Corey Kluber Society. Secondly, it’s to publish — for the reader’s pleasure — three accounts by noted personages of Corey Kluber and the eponymous Society.
About the Society
The Corey Kluber Society (or, frequently just “the Society”) is composed of individuals all bound by their singular enthusiasm for the works and days of Cleveland right-hander Corey Kluber.
How to Attend a Meeting
To attend a meeting of the Society, one needs merely to “push it,” where it signifies “spiritual intellect” or something not unlike “spiritual intellect.”
Accounts from the Corey Kluber Society by Famous Personages
A number of notable writers and thinkers have, at one time or another, been quite active within the Society. Below are accounts from three of them.
British novelist C.S. Lewis:
At the time, I knew nothing about Kluber; but instantly I was uplifted into huge regions of northern sky, and I desired with almost sickening intensity something never to be described (except that it is cold, spacious, severe, pale, and remote) and then found myself at the very same moment already falling out of that desire and wishing I were back in it.
American philosopher and psychologist William James:
The effects [of Kluber] will of course vary with the individual, just as they vary in the same individual from time to time; but it is probable that in the former case, as in the latter, a generic resemblance will obtain. With me, as with every other person of whom I have heard, the keynote of the experience is the tremendously exciting sense of an intense metaphysical illumination. Truth lies open to the view in depth beneath depth of almost blinding evidence. The mind sees all logical relations of being with an apparent subtlety and instantaneity to which its normal consciousness offers no parallel.
Seventeenth-century French polymath Blaise Pascal:
From about third inning until the sixth, FIRE. God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, not of the philosophers nor of the Wise. Assurance, joy, assurance, feeling, joy, peace… Kluber, the world has not known thee but I have known thee. Joy, joy, joy, tears of joy.

Here’s slow-motion footage of the last pitch Kluber threw in his most recent start — a cutter at 92 mph to strike out Mitch Moreland:

Today’s MLB.TV Free Game
Houston at Baltimore | 19:05 ET
Erik Bedard (103.0 IP, 115 xFIP-, 0.8 WAR) faces Miguel Gonzalez (112.1 IP, 108 xFIP-, 1.4 WAR). Regarding the former, he hasn’t fared as poorly as some other pitchers who currently possess a 0 Nerd score. He has the distinction, however, of being the slowest-working of all 203 pitchers who’ve thrown 20-plus innings as a starter. His pace figure of 26.4 seconds between pitches is over 2.5 standard deviations slower than average among the aforementioned population.
Readers’ Preferred Broadcast: Houston Radio, Maybe.

Carson Cistulli has published a book of aphorisms called Spirited Ejaculations of a New Enthusiast.
The White Sox are so mystified by Kluber they don’t even know who to send to the mound.
Corey Kluber will be pitching for both teams.
Klubes will be also calling balls and strikes
