Dan Szymborski: No. He’s still active. You have to be retired for 5 years or die in a spectacular fashion.

Dan Szymborski: And if we’re talking *will* the HoF do something, I don’t want to even imagine what the BBWAA voters will do.

Dan Szymborski: It’s an organization that has guys like Keith Law, but a lot of guys that are 80 year-old retirees that haven’t written about baseball since 1970.

Dan Szymborski: I still think that the Hall will eventually have to have a 1990s/2000s Committee to fix the mess the BBWAA has left.

Dan Szymborski: I dunno, never used melatonin. I love lucid dreaming, as it makes the dream storylines wacky.

Dan Szymborski: My favorite dreams are the one in which you can use your insistence that it is a dream to your advantage.

Dan Szymborski: For instance, I never have a true nightmare because dream Dan will simply refuse to buy the events that are going on.

Dan Szymborski: Though it’s harder to do with boring dreams. I had a dream over the weekend that Irish Spring soap was on sale. Not much to do with that.

It seems like an overpay would be better than losing Seager, Lee, Pederson, et al. and then having to pay Price any way.

Dan Szymborski: They could do both. Dodgers are determined not to be bound by payroll and given their GM, reason.

Dan Szymborski: It could be ugly in LA come the end of the decade though.

Dan Szymborski: That’s the kind of attitude that turns good teams into losers.

Dan Szymborski: Kozma wasn’t a contributor – they made it to the World Series *in spite of* Kozma.

Dan Szymborski: Teams that accept holes are teams that have disappointing seasons.

Dan Szymborski: I have a great job writing baseball for ESPN and I was a lazy, underachieving student.

Dan Szymborski: That doesn’t mean I’ll advise young people to be lazy and underachieving. I got my job in spite of that.

Dan Szymborski: I have good cholesterol and blood pressure despite being overweight and drinking too much beer and eating too much bacon. That I’ve survived so far does not make being overweight, drinking too much beer, and eating too much bacon good ideas or things I need to cut back on.

Dan Szymborski: *Logic* would dictate this, but I don’t think the Dodgers hold their prospects as having as much value as you do.

If had to choose between trading David Price for prospects, and pushing your target window back a few years, or finding the money to pay him and go for it all while the current team is together, what do you do?

Dan Szymborski: If I’m the Rays, I trade him. What I can get in return is more valuable than getting Price’s services for 2/30 instead of market price.

Dan Szymborski: If it’s a more general question, it’s hard to answer becuase every situation is different. If you think too rigidly, you’ll ask for trouble.

Dan Szymborski: They’d have to give something of very solid value – Braun’s contract extension, while not ideal, didn’t really kill his value.

Uggla never had the range to make a good defensive second baseman, so even if he rebounds well offensively he could be a negative value. The Braves really have to upgrade at second, what are the most likely options? (Though knowing the Braves they’ll probably “accept the hole” like you mentioned earlier and go into the year with Uggla and La Stella)

Dan Szymborski: Actually, I think you answered your own question. They’ll start with Uggla, I think, and if he continues to suck, won’t hesitate to use La Stella or Pastornicky
