Thoughts on Severino for the playoff run? |
12:00 |
: lovely
|
12:01 |
Is a check swing reviewable on replay? Also, are there any good reasons why the 1B or 3B umpire should NOT call every checked swing? If replay was added to get calls right then MLB should adjust this rule as well. The whole concept of allowing the HP umpire to call them contradicts the “getting the call right” theme. |
12:01 |
: I don’t think it is, but it should be. But what if there was a chip in the bat and on the plate? What if robo umps? Is Tennis so bad?
|
12:02 |
Rank streamers for today: Rodon, Ross, Smyly, Rubby |
12:02 |
: Smyly Ross Rodon Rubby
|
12:02 |
So Twins people keep citing innings limits, but I’m trying to figure out what the logic is for letting Berrios reach his innings limit by annihilating AAA hitters, or letting him do it as the replacement for one of MN’s many poor performing, no ceiling pitchers. And if roster spots are the problem, why not at least shut him down for a week, to save those innings for Sept.? Given how it’s being handled, I feel that more pitchforks and torches should be involved. |
12:03 |
: I been mad
|
12:03 |
You buy JD Mart and Blackmon as keep-4 guys for 2016? Right now I’m looking at JDM, CB, Bryant and Schwarburger. No elite studs there, but I like the overall balance of power, speed and a reasonable AVG. |
12:03 |
: you fine
|
12:03 |
Who might be a good fit for an incoming Mariners GM? An org with expensive older players demanding a win-now approach, but a decimated farm system? |
12:03 |
: Dave Dombrowski?
|
12:03 |
Tyson Ross projects for +4.5 WAR. When does he start getting national attention? |
12:04 |
: I’m a national guy and I give him attention! Interviewed him even! Last night, I spotted him throwing a 96 mph two-seamer and a 91 mph two-seamer in the same at-bat. It’s possible the second was a changeup, but he told me he doesn’t throw those, so I think it’s possible he has four fastballs.
|
12:04 |
Do you guess Carrasco is shut down by the tribe? |
12:04 |
: Yeah they have like what a 2.5% chance?
|
12:05 |
Should we pay attention to FIP or xFIP more? |
12:06 |
: in the smallest samples, neither. Look at velocity, percentage of pitches, and then swinging strikes per pitch type. In a medium sample, xFIP is okay, but SIERA is better. FIP in bigger samples. ERA once you get past three years or so.
|
12:06 |
ITS ENO TIME OH YES IT IS |
12:07 |
Look who’s back, back again, Eno’s back, tell a friend. |
12:07 |
Ich wär’ so gerne Millionär |
12:07 |
: slow start interlude
|
12:07 |
Is Donaldson starting to run away with MVP? |
12:08 |
: I couldn’t find great evidence that Trout was hurt in the numbers, so there’s still time for him to make it a better argument.
|
12:08 |
Has Verlander put himself into top 30 starter status again for next year? |
12:09 |
: The fastball has a 10% whiff rate right now, which is twice the average. He found some rise on the pitch. Still has two above-average secondary pitches. Curve is meh. I’ll give him top 50 at very least.
|
12:09 |
Nate Karns never really goes deeper than 5-6 innings, even if doing well. Do you think that will change next year? I like him and want to keep him, but not if he never goes deep enought to get W’s. |
12:10 |
: I like him, and the change has gotten better, but with his age, I think he’s a decent guy to sell now.
|
12:10 |
Soler was dropped in my keep 6 league, and need to own him this weekend if I’m keeping him next year. Could you pick two between: Last round Buxton, last round Dickerson, last round Soler, 16th round Rendon. Thanks! |
12:10 |
: I love Soler but the Buxton Dickerson combo is pretty hot.
|
12:10 |
Your top shortsop in fantasy for the pas month and half……Not Correa….Franciso Lindor, 2 ladies and Gentleman. |
12:10 |
: Way better stick than I thought, but if you look at his seasonal numbers, I’d say that’s about as much as you can expect from him.
|
12:11 |
Being a Mariners fan is a great exercise in finding reason for optimism. Ketel Marte has been a lot of fun so far. What do you see the Mariners doing with him in the future? |
12:12 |
: Weird thing is he looked like a free swinger and sometimes still does, but his swing rate is better than league average and he’s walking. If he keeps that up… problem is, his defense is also not plus, just like Miller. Anyway, it’s probably better than Miller, so there’s a chance that Marte is the shortstop next year. Maybe Miller is trade bait.
|
12:13 |
Where does Carlos Correa get drafted next year? |
12:13 |
: Second round?
|
12:13 |
Eno! I will be in North Carolina (specifically Durham) next week for a wedding. What beers should I look out for while I am there? I am driving so I plan to make the most of the trip. Any recs for specific breweries to keep an eye out for? Thanks man |
12:14 |
: Asheville is the place to be. Wicked Weed and Highland. I like NoDa in Charlotte and Foothills in Winston-Salem, too. I see Big Boss in Durham area but I don’t know anything about them. Olde Hickory is good.
|
12:14 |
Do you think Jose Fernandez gets a few starts in this season? |
12:14 |
: They saying yes. So I believe them I guess.
|
12:15 |
On a scale oh Phillies to Padres, how screwed are the Orioles next year? |
12:15 |
: Dunno, there are a couple interesting pitchers in that system, and some great young players still… they might have some money. I wouldn’t put them on that scale.
|
12:15 |
Carrasco or Carlos Martinez next year? The shoulder and AL factor worry me. |
12:15 |
: C Mart
|
12:16 |
You get a lot of thoughtful responses from players, but have you ever come away from an interview feeling that a player is overthinking something? |
12:16 |
: If you’re thinking a ton on the mound, maybe. But even Trevor Bauer told me he doesn’t like to think about that stuff on the mound too much, so most of the stuff I’m talking to players about happens in practice.
|
12:16 |
With the Dodgers’ bullpen struggles, does this increase the chances that we see Urias in relief now and starting by mid next summer? |
12:17 |
: I think it would be a great move on their part, and I think it’s possible. People around the team suggested they could see it happening, and he’s supposed to be a polished if young guy.
|
12:17 |
Ottoneu. My $5 Stroman for his $19 Rendon. I have Turner at 3b and Dozier at 2B. Yay or nay? |
12:17 |
: If you in it this year and need offense, maybe. Stroman strikes me as a better keeper at 7 vs 21 Rendon though.
|
12:18 |
A couple of good pickups were available this week, who do you like more as a keeper option for 2016, Medlen or Trea Turner? |
12:18 |
: Trea
|
12:18 |
What strategy can I use to plug Shark in for spot starts? |
12:18 |
: Pitcher parks? Has a bit of homeritis.
|
12:18 |
Can you rank Severino, Matz, Nola, Heaney and Berrios ROS? Assuming Berrios forces his way up soon. |
12:18 |
: Severino Matz Nola Berrios Heaney if he’s up, maybe Berrios third. But I’m done yelling about it.
|
12:19 |
How many more starts do you expect to see from Aaron Nola before he gets shut down? Would you drop him for Jose Berrios speculating on a September call up? |
12:20 |
: Nola pitched in college last year. He accrued 175 innings. He has no limits.
|
12:20 |
The Dbacks would be pretty good if they could get any sort of decent pitchin, huh? |
12:20 |
: I like how they got a ton of live arms, and it looks like Rubby might work out. They not as crazy as they seemed.
|
12:20 |
Chance Pomeranz really is the new closer in Oak? |
12:21 |
: Pretty good. They haven’t gone to Rodriguez and Scribner is done and even though I love Doolittle the man, he’s only at 92 or so right now and has to prove himself a bit.
|
12:21 |
I’ve never done this, but would you ever do this or do this for this deal? Trade deadline has passed in our dynasty league, but this guy wants my Strasburg for his Addison Russell and Shelby Miller. He wants to post it on the league page and then have it pushed through after the season is over. Would you ever do a deal like this and would you do this one if so? Thanks. |
12:22 |
: I mean you’re just agreeing to a trade in the future, after the season is over? That seems fine. I’d do that deal.
|
12:22 |
so can we write off the Nationals now? |
12:23 |
: They look pretty bad. Zimmerman has turned it around, but Rendon needs to find it too, and Span. Look at that talent though. With Ross in the rotation, they could run off a string of wins. I’m not going to write their epitaph.
|
12:23 |

Yo-eno-is Ces-sarris |
12:23 |
I’m trying to figure out how a mashup of the backbeat from Eminem’s Curtains Down and the beginning of Concrete Jungle would work together, but in my mind it’s already awesome. |
12:23 |
Does Osuna’s amazingness transfer with him if he’s made a starter next year? |
12:23 |
: They haven’t been talking about it, have they? He does have three pitches, but I think he’ll be a closer.
|
12:23 |
When you talked to Jungmann did pitching at altitude while at AAA come up at all? I’m interested to hear if guys have any pros/cons of that environment before hitting the bigs. |
12:24 |
: No, but Thor told me that pitching in Vegas made his changeup better because his curve wouldn’t bite and he had to do something.
|
12:24 |
On a radio spot the other day Ron Darling mentioned the idea of having Syndegaard and Matz in the postseason bullpen. Brilliance? Or too much pressure on rookie players? |
12:24 |
: Blech. Colon, if he would do it — he wouldn’t for the season, but maybe in the postseason — would be a great reliever.
|
12:24 |
I know its hard because its your job, but to ever get tired of the whole beer rat race and just wish you had a case of sculpin (or some other old stand-by) and could just ignore all new releases, trades, hype, etc |
12:24 |
: I’ve been slowly mixing in more old standards when I buy, for money reasons too.
|
12:25 |
Who do you like better long-term? Chi Chi Gonzalez, Vincent Velasquez, Robbie Ray, Chase Anderson, or Kyle Hendricks? Who has the highest upside? |
12:25 |
: Wow I don’t really love any of them. I’ll take VV for upside, he has a rise ball and two nice pitches and some velocity. Chase for floor, though Kyle probably has similar floor. Chase > Kyle in arsenal though.
|
12:25 |
What do you think of Jimmy Nelson ROS after that 8 walk outing? |
12:26 |
: Always thought his command was iffy and people asked me why I thought that.
|
12:26 |
Who’s a better keeper for next season, Votto or Freeman? |
12:26 |
: Non OBP, Freeman. He’s younger.
|
12:26 |
I’m heading to Iowa next week (Cedar Rapids). Is there any hope to find good local beer there? HELP! |
12:26 |
: I wonder if you could find some Toppling Goliath around there.
|
12:27 |
What happens if RAJ and Jack Z traded places. |
12:27 |
They are opening a Hofbräuhaus in St. Pete next month. I think that should end the new stadium debate. |
12:27 |
Free hot dogs? |
12:27 |
: Hey that’s not bad.
|
12:27 |
You buying Stroman or Carrasco next year? |
12:27 |
: Carrasco way more strikeouts, I’ll take CC.
|
12:27 |
Does this go down as AJ Pollock’s career best season? What kind of power upside does he have from here, if any? |
12:28 |
: He’s 27. Maybe he hits 18 or so next year, but I doubt he ever does much more than 20. on pace for like 16 this year.
|
12:28 |
Dogfish head 60 minute looks/tastes more like a white Porter. It’s good but I doubt they intended this. Ever try? |
12:29 |
: Of course. I think you mean more like a light barleywine? When you get to the heavier ones, it’s more obvious it’s like a barleywine.
|
12:29 |
fav episode of the Simpsons? |
12:29 |
: Dumbell Indemnity, the one where Homer has to try and crash the car to pay for Moe’s girlfriend but stops to watch Hail to the Chimp. Just like that it’s Double Indemnity, great old noir movie, and there’s a great scene in the bar when Moe’s speed dating.
|
12:30 |
: Although the Springfield Nine one is of course, awesome sauce.
|
12:30 |
FYI, MLB Live subscriptions are only 10 bucks for the rest of the year. |
12:30 |
Baez at .314/.381/.535 in the minors! What % of full time will he play when he comes up? What’s your best guess on a slash line? |
12:31 |
: 25% strikeout rate, second time at Triple-A, but only 22. I don’t see who he’s displacing other than La Stella though. He’s a righty, maybe he platoons at 2b/LF
|
12:31 |
Yankees eat about 80% of his contract, and trade ARod to Miami next year and he becomes player-manager. Any chance this happens? |
12:31 |
: Funny but 0%
|
12:32 |
:
|
12:32 |
Will Yelich become a 20+ homer threat anually? |
12:33 |
: I need to see SOME movement in his ground ball rate before I give him that. I could see Brett Gardner type career happening if he does hit a few more fly balls.
|
12:33 |
Had a nice time at Saber with some of your compatriots, when you coming out east dude? I need me some Eno-tainment! |
12:33 |
: Maybe once the baby is sleeping through the night. Feels like that will be in ten years.
|
12:33 |
I can keep two of the following in an NL only league: Wong, Yelich, Duffy. Who would you throw back? |
12:34 |
: Not Wong, definitely not Wong. I could see dropping Duffy actually.
|
12:34 |
Sleeper holds candidates for the last month? I’m chasing one roto point which could be the difference. |
12:35 |
: Is Kela a sleeper? I just picked him up in a few leagues. I like Dan Hudson. Osich. Bryan Morris.
|
12:35 |
Who’s Detroit’s closer next season? |
12:35 |
: rondon
|
12:37 |
why does matt barnes suck so bad |
12:38 |
: Actually.. the fastball is good, the curve is decent and the change, we’ll see. Okay fade, not great drop, good velocity differential. Starting with a good fastball is nice, but maybe he doesn’t have a plus secondary pitch? I think he doesn’t suck so bad.
|
12:38 |
Chris Bassitt worth a pickup? Is he a viable long-term guy? |
12:39 |
: Has boosted his fastball two ticks this year and his curve is dropping more. Curve and four-seam only pitches above-average by whiffs, and none is plus, but no pitch really sucks other than maybe the change. Kitchen sink guy. Usable while in Oakland.
|
12:39 |
What is your favorite nickname in baseball right now? |
12:40 |
: I forget who it is now, stupid, but there was an old school player whose nickname was Tripod and wow.
|
12:41 |
Raisel Iglesias: 2016 breakout or disappointment considering his current struggles vs lefties? |
12:42 |
: Sorting his pitches against lefties, still gets above-ave whiffs on change, slider, fastball versus them. I still lik him!
|
12:42 |
:
|
12:42 |
Justin Turner or Kang at SS for the rest of the year? |
12:42 |
: Kang. I know they sat him for Mercer one time, but I think he’ll play.
|
12:43 |
In a league with categories of W, L, S, K, Holds, ERA, WHIP, would you consider basically punting SP? |
12:43 |
: Yeah that’s three categories for relievers (L, S, HLD) and two for starters (W, K), and then ERA/WHIP should go to RP too.
|
12:43 |
FYI, Roark is being stretched out to replace Joe Ross. So, he might have only the Cardinals start left. |
12:44 |
: Damn, that’s too bad.
|
12:44 |
Is Carson Smith droppable at this point? |
12:44 |
: He lost a ton of velocity. I think he’s hurt.
|
12:44 |
I’ve heard Dombrowski is off the market. Worth looking into any potential GMs, or just wait and see which names pop up? |
12:44 |
: Yeah, was a lark. They should have moved faster, I feel. Now you might be stuck with Jack another year.
|
12:44 |
They have been talking about it. He’s been a starter at every level he’s played at except for the majors. They are essentially doing what they did with Sanchez last year with him. |
12:45 |
: Ah, good, I was wondering if maybe I just hadn’t heard about it. He has a better arsenal than Sanchez, and I think he’s a decent keeper because he’ll either be a good starter or a good closer. Sanchez could take over for him if he goes to the rotation, wouldn’t that be fun.
|
12:46 |
Re: Nelson it was pouring rain last night. |
12:46 |
: Yeah I watched some. I maintain that his command isn’t great and most of his blowups start with walks.
|
12:46 |
I’m a vegetarian. |
12:46 |
What non-human animal would be the best at baseball? |
12:47 |
: Something most human like? an Orangutan? Chimp? Could swing the bat. I think I saw a monkey hit a baseball. hold on.
|
12:47 |
:
|
12:47 |
: BOOM
|
12:47 |
How far do you see the Astros going into the postseason? |
12:48 |
: Woulda liked em a lot better with Cole Hamels on that team.
|
12:48 |
re: Durham. Steel String Brewery if you can make it to Carrboro. Big Boss is solid but Aviator is the tits. Definitely work a check out. |
12:48 |
How come JBJ was dropped in my deep league. I grabbed him, but wonder if he’s secretly made of fantasy poison, because he was hitting well. |
12:48 |
: Empty on-base percentage long-term.
|
12:48 |
Hey Eno can we be friends? |
12:48 |
: LONELY WON”T LEAVE ME ALONE WHY TELL ME WHY
|
12:49 |
21 Short Films still holds god-tier simpsons ep |
12:49 |
And with that, I’m a cat. |
12:49 |
A-Rod + most of his salary for Billy Butler |
12:49 |
Where does Sano stack up in 2016 drafts? Do you anticipate drafting him over guys like Freeman and/or Votto given he’s 22 and has shown great plate discipline along with the amazing power? Top 50 player in fantasy for 2016? |
12:50 |
: I don’t think I can push him that high because of his K%. More likely to hit .240 next year than .280.
|
12:50 |
What are the cutoffs for classifying cutters vs sliders? Kluber and Arrieta throw a similar pitch it seems, but one is a cutter and the other a slider. |
12:51 |
: I don’t think Arrieta’s is as horizontal, and I’d call them both sliders, but usually it has to do with velocity and drop. Cutters are more horizontal with little drop compared to a fastball. They are designed to go in on the lefties’ hands without dropping into their happy zone.
|
12:51 |
In a re-draft with Gattis and have Grandal on the bench. Can I cut Grandal at this point? He’s been quite meh for a month and a half and is now injured. |
12:51 |
: In a redraft yeah I guess.
|
12:51 |
If you were Mariano Rivera wouldn’t you charge $1k/hour to MLB pitchers to teach that cutter? |
12:52 |
|
12:52 |
: Where’s my 1k
|
12:52 |
: (Thats Ottavino, but that’s the Mo grip)
|
12:52 |
Does Coghlan still play full time after 9/1 when Baez comes up? |
12:52 |
: he doesn’t play full time now
|
12:52 |
Do you like Polanco ROS? |
12:53 |
: I’ve liked him all along
|
12:53 |
Nimmy Jelson |
12:53 |
Late to the chat, so not to be annoying but what was the question about “They have been talking about it. He’s been a starter at every level he’s played at except for the majors. They are essentially doing what they did with Sanchez last year with him.” referring to? Osuna? |
12:53 |
: Osuna
|
12:53 |
On Tuesday’s Podcast, there was no mention of Fowler with the combo outfielders. He seems pretty good. Even in a non-OBP all that OBP translates to R and SB. |
12:53 |
: Yah I just couldn’t put him in the 10-15 HR/ 30 SB combo that we were talking about. He’s in the 15/15 group, which is relevant enough to the conversation that I would probably wait on a guy that doesn’t have great power with his speed.
|
12:54 |
Do you pencil Paxton into the rotation next year or do you just assume he’ll be hurt, plan for another guy, and take any starts you can get from him? |
12:54 |
: Guess I plan on him being my sixth starter.
|
12:54 |
Is Carlos Rodon the kind of SP who has a good chance of getting his command under control in year 2, and becoming a dominant starter? |
12:54 |
: Yes, but I wish he had a change.
|
12:54 |
Is Jeff Sullivan strutting around grinning like an idiot after the timing of his Verlander piece? |
12:54 |
: I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jeff Sullivan strut. He kind of… lopes.
|
12:55 |
The best nickname in MLB history was Dr. Strangleglove |
12:55 |
My wife is pregnant, and is reading a lot of mommy blogs (God help me). Did you ever try cloth diapers? It sounds like a bad idea to me… |
12:56 |
: My mom did but we lived in a third-world country where you would throw your trash in a hole in the backyard and much of the time they just let me run around naked and poop on myself and then hose it/me down. With diaper genies and trash pickup, I may be a bad person, but I’ll take the diapers.
|
12:56 |
Should I worry about any of these pitchers in my h2h playoffs. I should get a bye. Salazar, Pineda, Thor, Carasco or Richards. HSould I drop any for Matz or Stroman? |
12:57 |
: Watch the news like a hawk because Carrasco could get shut down. They say he’s back September 6 but shoulders are scary and they have 3% chance right now. Pineda you always worry about. The rest are fine. I love Matz.
|
12:57 |
If you had to rank SP for next year, where would you put Nate Eovaldi? I’m starting to feel good about buying low on him in dynasty… |
12:57 |
: He’s inching into the top 75.
|
12:58 |
What do you see out of Mesoraco next year? He’ll have catcher eligibility but play in the outfield. |
12:58 |
: High variance, but the upper edge of his outcomes is super super tasty.
|
12:58 |
:
|
12:59 |
Buxton Dickerson sounds dirty. |
1:00 |
Will Jungmann be on a innings limit? |
1:00 |
: Nah
|
1:00 |
Is the Mets’ window essentially this year only? Pitching is so volatile and the line-up certainly won’t be this good again next year unless ownership finds some money under the mattress. |
1:00 |
: They deep enough that they can handle some regression from one or two of the guys. Their pitching should be good again, IMO. And a year for Conforto, a couple of guys in the minors that could get closer to helping with bats… No I don’t think this is their only window.
|
1:01 |
Are you worried about Schwarber’s K rate? |
1:01 |
: Not a great in-zone contact rate. Saw him miss a pitch on the inner half, low but in the zone, by about six inches yesterday. He’s a beast, but he’ll have some worse batting averages in the future.
|
1:01 |
Rebuilding in dynasty, any reason to hang onto Leonys Martin at this point? |
1:02 |
: Been thinking about that one, and I don’t think so. I mean, he’s basically a platoon accruer at best (.270/10/25 but you have to sit him vs LHP) and if he’s out in Texas, where’s he going to go.
|
1:02 |
What player valuation method do you use for fantasy? Z-scores? PVM? SGP? Something else? |
1:02 |
: I’ve used both Z scores and SGP, and I like Z-scores for most leagues, but SGP is decent in keepers/dynasties where there are keeper effects and the managers have stuck around for a while.
|
1:02 |
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Miguel Cabrera and his .370/.470/.600 line? |
1:03 |
: done.
|
1:05 |
Can you fill me in on what Z-scores and SGP are? |
1:06 |
: Z scores are basically replacement level concept — take your players stats and value them over a replacement level in each category by z-scores, and then add up the z-scores for a value. SGP is standings-based — what is a stolen base worth in the standings. That has obvious flaws, but once you’re in a league with managers that stick around and there are tendencies (keeping certain stats), I think it can be more valuable.

Wife and I are about to start trying to have a kid. Asked a bunch of friends what books they read to prepare and the universal response was “Don’t bother, nothing can prepare you.” Any advice? You read any books? |
1:07 |
: Hmm, I read some stuff but none of it was very helpful. Talked to friends, that was helpful. Talk mostly about sleep habits. That’s my thing. Get them on a good path on sleep and you’ll be like me with my first child. Do it poorly and you’re me now, constantly tired.
|
1:07 |
nice winning streak the mets have put on since dudas been out. coincidence? |
1:07 |
: OH NO HE DIDN”T

re cloth diapers. they save a ton of money and aren’t as bad as i thought they’d be, but i prefer regular diapers. if it’s about saving money cloth way to go. if money doesn’t matter skip them. |

I managed to get some Heady and Pliny and the same time…have to do it blind, right? |
1:08 |

For Scared Poopless, “Happiest Baby on the Block” was great for tips on soothing an unhappy infant. |
1:08 |
: Well that was both helpful and silly, which is amazing.

Can you explain to me how a three-game WC series solves the problem of worse teams getting an advantage over better WC teams? Either way the worse team is in the DS while one of those two WC teams is not, and even the winner is at a disadvantage compared to the worse divisional team. The problem isn’t the randomness of the play-in game, it’s the disadvantage of the better WC team vis-a-vis the divisional winner. |
1:09 |
: I see it completely differently. I think the wild card winner should have a disadvantage. I hate the randomness of the one-game playoff. Though it is sort of delirious.
|
1:09 |
Would you ever trade 3 average players (including a 3B, backup C, and SP) for a #2 pitcher? What circumstances? |
1:10 |
: If the #2 was young and a tweak away from being a one, maybe.
|
1:10 |
Me and my girlfriend are currently childless but do plan on having one eventually. She wants 2+, I want 1. What argument should I use for only having 1 other than cost? |
1:11 |
: just point to me. LOOK AT THAT MAN LOOK AT THE BAGS UNDER HIS EYES HE’S AGED LIKE A PRESIDENT IN THE LAST THREE YEARS DO YOU WANT THAT
|
1:11 |
Nick Castellanos, Pablo Sandoval, Marcus Semien, and A-Rod walk into a bar. Which one do you make your 3B for H2H playoffs? |
1:12 |
: Nick. Best defense, maybe? Second best offense maybe?
|
1:14 |
GREAT IDEA ENO I AM GOING TO PRINT OFF YOUR PICTURE EVERY DAY AND PUT IT ON OUR BATHROOM MIRROR. |
1:14 |
Where does Kang get drafted next year in a 10-team mixed? |
1:14 |
: Can’t be in the top five or six rounds unless he starts every day from here on out.
|
1:14 |
The argument against the randomness of the one game playoff is almost at its lowest point re: CHN/PIT, however, so I don’t understand why it’s rearing its head now. If anything, that randomness is good! One of those teams won’t be eliminated per se because they’re a game shy of the other (as under the old rules) and they’ll have some tiny bit of control over whether they proceed. The randomness concern seems better-suited to the AL, where a very-good AL East team might lose a coin flip to a .500 team. |
1:15 |
: It’s not rearing it’s head, it’s something I’ve always railed against. It just happens to be close to the playoffs again. One game is not very baseball.
|
1:15 |
have we already seen the best of logan forsythe or can he keep this up? |
1:15 |
: This is his best. Some of his work is just a BABIP explosion against righties.
|
1:16 |
Re: “it’s not rearing its head” — Dave just wrote an article on the subject, it’s all over many other outlets… |
1:16 |
: Ah, just waking up here on the west coast.
|
1:16 |
What goes on the ENO Bruger? |
1:17 |
: Avocado bacon carmelized onions steak sauce
|
1:17 |
Aren’t all playoff series pretty random anyway? The Phillies were like a top five offense in a 7 game sample |
1:17 |
: Sure, but less random than one game. Philip Humber can throw a no-hitter in one game.
|
1:17 |
2 kids argument (things you wouldn’t necessarily think about until you experienced it): they self entertain. the oldest is humbled by the new arrival (less attention). |

How much upside does Machado have left? Can he get even better? |
1:19 |
: He’s only 23! Amazing. I guess he could walk more, doubt he steals more. 35 homers? 40? That seems a bit crazy to predict though.
|
1:19 |
: Redraft? Smyly

Is it possible that next season the Yankees start the season with Eovaldi and Severino as their top 2 SP? They seem very adamant about not overspending on SP in free agency. |
1:23 |
: Is it possible that those front two will be the best front two in that division? If the Jays don’t buy a starter, who would have better?
|
1:23 |
I am 10 saves back of the next guy in line but 15 saves would overtake about 5 managers. I have chapman and Vizcaino. is it worth giving up a $1 chase Anderson to try to chase saves? Or could get j Zimmerman prob but not sure if he would help ratios enough to matter. NL only keeper |
1:23 |
: Doubt you get ten saves but Chase is expendable.
|
1:24 |

1:24 |

|
1:24 |
General keeper stategy: best players or best deals? |
1:25 |
: Mix. Mostly value, but if I’m competitive, I’ll keep one guy that’s a first round talent on a first/second round price.
|
1:25 |
Rougned HODOR. |
1:25 |
Where does Archer get drafted next year? |
1:26 |
: Top three rounds
|
1:26 |
Have a serious sour crush going on right now. Live in DC – do you know of any area sours worth checking out? I feel like all the really good ones are on the other coast |
1:27 |
: I mean I love Halia and the sour sisters from Goose Island. Do you see Wicked Weed? You can always shell out for Drei Fonteinen and the like, Cantillon. Allegash has some good ones.
|
1:27 |
Keeper strategy: best deals! You can always overdraft/overpay next year, if it’s still below your round/price last year you come out ahead. Let Trout walk b/c broke the bank on him, bought him back cheaper next year. |
1:27 |
: For the most part, I agree, but actually having Trout, even on first round price, has a value — you know you have Trout!
|
1:27 |
![]() best part of no duda – no more of this |
1:28 |
: 30% better than league average with the stick.

1:28 |
Have you drafted any fantasy football teams yet? |
1:28 |
: Not playing in any football leagues this year and it feels stupendous.
|
1:28 |
What round will AJ Pollock go in next season. |
1:28 |
: Talked about this in length on the podcast. We settled around the third round.
|
1:28 |
What will the Mariners do with Brad Miller? He seems a very capable starting SS, but they keep trying to replace him. Will they turn him into a super utility player like Zobrist? |
1:29 |
: People don’t love his defense. I could see him settling at second for someone else.
|
1:29 |
Okay Eno but do you believe in Steven Vogt |
1:30 |
: Someone pointed out that he was like .240/.315/.390 since I wrote that article and I’ve been meaning to point out that the average catcher this year has a .239/.303/.380 line, so yes I’ll give Vogt a 2-3 win projection again next year.
|
1:31 |
hey whats wrong with philip humber |
1:31 |
: Nothing the Kia Tigers can’t fix, maybe.
|
1:31 |
Time to cut bait on VMart? I could replace him with Rusney, JBJ or Blanco. |
1:32 |
: If some steals could help, Rusney is sorta interesting. I do think VMart can at least empty average for a bit.
|
1:32 |
heading to penrose tomorrow. do i pick a sour based on flavor combo that sounds best or abv? i struggle with drinking beers under 4%. |

wife is pregnant. how did you and your wife figure out the baby name? wife just keeps adding names to the list. dear god it doesnt end. |
1:33 |
: Good cop bad cop. Someone has to start making fun of some of the names, ‘we don’t want the kids saying this or wait that sounds like”
|
1:33 |
Standard Roto: For next year, I am keeping Harvey, Harper, Springer, Donaldson, and Syndergaard. Need to choose between Corey Seager, Olivera, Stanton (high price), and Texeira. Thoughts? |
1:34 |
: Seager. Olivera is old and unknown, Teixeira old. Stanton’s price is the difference here, so particulars matter.
|
1:34 |
Does beer have food pairings like wine? To me, beers taste much better when eating something, but I don’t know if anything in particular is better. |
1:34 |
: Yes. Drink a hoppy IPA with spicy food, it’s totally different.
|
1:34 |
Chad, for names……eno has good advice, then do paired matching…A, or B. C or D. A or C….eventually they go away. |
1:35 |
Tons of baby questions today. Disposable diapers, keep em on a schedule, and if you dont like the girl names she picks out, just say it reminds you of a stripper. |
1:35 |
Rate baby girls name out of 10: Quinn Ivy Joanne. Yes that is one name. Yes that is my girlfriend’s idea. |
1:35 |
Not an A’s question but what’s the deal with Rubby’s K’s? |
1:36 |
: Interesting, until last start (when he K’ed six again), started throwing change more, and sometimes the change isn’t the easiest way to get Ks. Still feeling his way forward.
|
1:36 |
do you remember an old snl skit with nic cage: he and wife were trying to come up with baby names, he was critical of all names because it turns out his name was aswipe (ahs-wee-pe). it was really good. |
1:36 |
Girl names are much harder than boy names. |
1:37 |
just dont name them chad |
1:37 |
At the risk of alienating the vast female audience here, I’m just going to say it: most of the dumb names you see given to kids come from women. You have to put your foot down, guys. |
1:37 |
“Really? You posted that question but you couldn’t post mine?? ” (hovering over cubicle) “Who are you talking to?” “Eno the chat guy.” (head dip and stare) “get back to work.” |
1:37 |
: Going to hope you hanging yourself with your own petards and not taking me along with you interlude.
|
1:37 |
How much movement is possible in BA at this point? |
1:38 | : Ah there you are. In July I found that you basically had to be as good as the first place team in ERA and WHIP in order to catch up, and I think BA is the same way. |
1:39 |
: Actually that was for four points, but with a month gone, I’ll say it’s the same way. If you want one or two points in the cat, you’ll need to be as good as the first place team has been in BA going forward.
|
1:39 |
Castellanos seems like he is now on a steep growth curve. 2016 stats? |
1:40 |
: something I like about him, so I’ll push it as far as my rosy glasses can go. .275/.330/.475 with 25 homers? Makes me nervous writing it, but it’s only a little growth in BB% and ISO, and he’s still only 23 with a hit tool that scouts always graded highly.
|
1:41 |
Any thoughts as to what a 2016 Franco will look like? |
1:41 |
: I’d give him a floor of what Castellanos is doing this year, ceiling around the same as my rosy projection for Nick.
|
1:41 |
Do you like what Wilmer Flores is bringing now that he’s a full time 2B? Top 10 2B for 2016? |
1:42 |
: Is he a full time 2b once Duda comes back? Unsure. Not a top-ten guy for me until I know how the team shakes out.
|
1:42 |
Drink a hoppy beer with spicy food and watch your tongue fall off |
1:42 |
: Actually the hoppy beer starts to taste more refreshing and less bitter!
|
1:42 |
The triples leader board is ridiculous. How is Gattis #2?? |
1:43 |
: Some guys get there with power, some guys get there with legs.
|
1:43 |
This is the Mets. Do you honestly think they will sign Murphy? Flores will be their 2B next season. |
1:44 |
: There’s still Dilson. I guess it’s Flores but man I’m still not fully sold. Good contact rate and average power, yes, but terrible patience, terrible defense. I’m going to cap him at average in real life next year, which I guess might be fine while he’s cheap. For fantasy though, is .250/18 really top ten at the position?

1:45 |
: I did Indian with it recently, so I would guess Chinese.
|
1:45 |
would you rather have james earl jones voice or sam elliots? |
1:45 |
: Vader
|
1:45 |
The best IPA’s come from Cali, so go spicy Mexican! |
1:45 |
Jays broadcast team discussing Revere not getting SB’s because you take the bat out of guy’s hands. 1 out Revere on 1st 82% steal rate. Isn’t him swiping a bag and Tulo getting a single still a more likely outcome than a CS? Not like anyone is using the empty bag to get to Donaldson |
1:46 |
: haha
|
1:46 |
ALL HAIL RANDY WOLF SLAYER OF ANGELS |
1:46 |
buxton dropped in redraft. i feel like i should want to pick him up, but i don’t. is this flawed thinking? |
1:46 |
: Not if you have a good team and are dropping a surefire vet. Redraft is only about long shots if you out of it.
|
1:47 |
: I need to go!
|
1:47 |
: It’s been fun!
|
1:47 |
: Exclamation mark!

THANKS ENO. You ROCK! |
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
Just knowing that no one will answer this comment 🙁 (sad)
