Eno Sarris: Dedicated to Yu? No, dedicated to Rob Manfred and his juiced balls? Wait. You dedicate this.
12:03
Eno Sarris: I’m here I’m here I’m here
12:04
Lance McCullers: I got 4 hit (batsmen) and a RBI. Which is more surprising?
12:04
Eno Sarris: The RBI. AL pitcher!
12:04
dan: Should bellinger get blames just as much for the dodger losing last night as yu darvish?
12:05
Eno Sarris: It wasn’t a good postseason for Bellinger, and he had some flaws exposed. I saw some say he’ll fall off quickly and isn’t that good. I believe he has some contact improvement in him and this was part of that first rookie adjustment myself.
12:05
jjp: Which pitchers do they dodgers go after for next year?
12:07
Eno Sarris: Yu said he wanted to come back! They seem set up to sign a pitcher! … it doesn’t seem likely that it’ll be yu, though, does it. Maybe they like Arrieta? Everyone has them as a likely Otani spot too.
12:07
Long Live Jeff Frye: I for one was glad to see a low scoring game. I’d really gotten tired of the balls narrative. The Morton narrative is much more fun.
12:07
Eno Sarris: That Game Five was a source of much conversation at the bar last night. Was it great? Or just full of (the) runs?
12:08
Braník Best: Need pitching in a keep forever dynasty. Is posey for berrios and faria too much to give up?
12:08
Eno Sarris: This is the time to sell a catcher with a lot of miles, IMO. I like those pitchers, except Faria’s velo was weird. Is there a slightly more established second piece you could add to Berrios’ upside?
12:09
jjp: What happens to Adrian Gonzalez and his 23m contract?
12:09
Eno Sarris: I’m thinking something medical. His back was all messed up.
12:09
AD: Eno! You’re alive!
12:09
Eno Sarris: barely!
12:09
toki: where do you see Addsion Reed landing? Cubs 8th inning role a possibility?
12:10
Eno Sarris: It’s possible the Cubs acquire some back end pitching — which is actually sort of plentiful — and spend more of their resources on the pen instead of being in on Jake, Cobb, Yu.
12:10
Oddball Herrera: Mets opened betting in 8th for 2018 world series odds at 20/1, equal to AZ and ahead of interesting teams like TB, Mil, Col… this feels tantamount to setting a pile of money on fire, am I missing something?
12:12
Eno Sarris: there’s a lot of offseason left, but the Mets feel like the Angels. Say the Angels get Yu. A healthy season from Yu, Richards, Heaney, Skaggs… maybe they get a second baseman (kipnis?) or a third baseman… Mets could make some moves, similarly, (CF?) and get a miracle last healthy season from Wright, and somehow their other pitchers get back on the horse and are healthy again… You’re right that Milwaukee and Tampa are probably better teams in most simulations of next season, but health is the big question mark for everyone.
12:12
Moltar: So is Morton the dude most likely to see his fantasy value inflated by the postseason?
12:14
Eno Sarris: The NCAA tournament mistake! I mean… I love the dude. He was nearly crying in the locker room. Everyone else is screaming, and he’s crying. He’s a good middle of the rotation pitcher in fantasy and real life, but his problems against lefties never really went away, and health hasn’t always been on his side.
12:14
Colito: hey Eno what do you think of this Darvish pitch tipping thing? I cant decide if I’m team ‘he can’t throw his off speed stuff cuz the damn slippery balls’ or ‘they knew what was coming’. Either way do you think this ruins his shot at staying in LA?
12:15
Eno Sarris: Hell of a time to tip. With Verlander’s weird slider situation, and the fact that the pitchers that did best in the series didn’t feature sliders… I don’t know. I don’t usually like conspiracy theories, but once you open the door with the regular season ball, bets are off, and it’s fair for us to question the WS ball.
12:15
Craig: What’s the big takeaway from this year’s World Series?
12:15
Eno Sarris: An executive told me recently… “Baseball is not that hard to figure out. You build a core, and when it’s ready, you add some veterans.”
12:16
AD: I saw that there is a hold-up in negotiations between MLB and the Japanese league on how to handle posting fees and such. Do you think this significantly delays Otani’s signing?
12:17
Eno Sarris: Hopefully it’s what paves the way for Otani, not the other way around. Those rules suck for everyone. Everyone! Yes, they suppress costs for MLB, but by doing so, they make it less likely that Otani (and Takahiro Norimoto, who is pretty good too) come over.
12:17
Pine Marten: Not to burst your bubble, but today’s date is 11/2/2017. Unless we’re chatting with future Eno…
12:17
Eno Sarris: Oh poop. I guess I don’t usually set up the chat after midnight my time and I added that day erroneously
12:17
get puiggy with it: give me some words of hope for my dodgers next year
12:19
Eno Sarris: Who they losing? Yu and Utley? They can get past that. I bet they trade Grandal for something. His game calling is atrocious but someone wants his framing and bat.
12:19
E: Are you a fan of black IPAs? any favorites?
12:20
Eno Sarris: Always loved Wookie Jack from FW but they retired it. Haven’t had a great one in a while.
12:20
toki: Come on Bellinger is a rookie.
12:20
Eno Sarris: That’s what I’m saying.
12:20
Bitter Mets Fan: cant decide if I’m happier that Beltran, McCann and Gattis finally got rings or that Utley didn’t
12:20
Eno Sarris: I had to write an ode to the veterans just so I could give Beltran some dap.
12:20
ATCQ: Are we doing mostly post-WS q’s today, or offseason q’s as well?
12:21
Eno Sarris: Bring it all. I’m going to the AFL to see prospects today. Calendar has turned.
12:21
John: What chances would you say Otani coming to MLB this winter are? And what are the 3 most likely destinations?
12:22
Eno Sarris: What happens, as I’ve seen it with Japanese players, is that once the player makes up his mind, the teams usually acquiesce. Otani seems to have made up his mind despite the money. I’d put it at like 70% likely. And since money is not part of the equation, I think city and winning are going to be most important to him: LA, NY front runners.
12:22
Nelson: Did you see Rich Hills at bat vs Verlander. If he could make contact a couple of times, im very convinced that you or Chris Hayes would have a few hits in 600 ABs
12:22
Eno Sarris: All he did was try to get that bat going as fast as he could. Did you see him run???
ss: What do you make of the Dodgers allowing Bellinger to continually tweak his approach/swing during the WS as opposed to letting his regular season approach ride?
12:26
Eno Sarris: If they expose a weakness, you have to adjust, can’t keep banging your head against the wall.
12:26
Bruce: Does the champagne celebration look as manufactured and inauthentic in person as it does on camera?
12:27
Eno Sarris: There are DEFINITELY elements of, okay, here we go, batten down the hatches. Especially among the media, who are struggling to get quotes as the suds fly. BUT. Those guys were legit having fun. You should have seen Liriano. McCullers. Hugs in the hall, stogies, so many smiles. Musgrove. I mean, it’s kind of fun to let normal societal rules about cleanliness go and just spray people with foam.
12:27
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: Some say Larry King is still sitting there, unmoving, waiting for a brighter tomorrow.
12:27
Aaron Judge: Behold, for I am the king of the TTO rookies!
12:28
Nihilist Eno: I’m a nationals fan….the void is looking pretty good right now. Drink lots of beer, watch no baseball.
12:28
Eno Sarris: Hey that was a world series quality interlude.
12:28
ATCQ: Yankees have enough money/lux tax space to just resign Tanaka and CC and call it a winter, do they not?
12:28
Eno Sarris: Yeah but it’s also the easiest place for them to improve. If they can get Otani, whoo boy.
12:29
BradG: Why does the analyst industry seem so have such massive trust in Hoskins when rookies constantly get exposed at some point after a year’s playing time? We have seen Bellinger adjust before. We don’t know that Hoskins will once he gets figured out.
12:30
Eno Sarris: Hoskins make so much contact. Bellinger can make more, I think. It’s a good point and worth exploring. Let me do a quick search.
Eno Sarris: Austin Kearns, Lew Ford, Mike Aviles, Austin Jackson out of top 30.
12:33
Eno Sarris: That’s three guys built on D, which you wouldn’t trust in a rookie season unless your eyes told you it was legit, like it did with Jackson, but injuries a big story there. And Austin Kearns. Does that guy strike you as a Hoskins or Bellinger?
12:33
Eno Sarris: To some extent, you’re talking about guys that have seasons that don’t match their minor leagues. That’s not really the case with Judge, Hoskins, Bellinger.
12:33
Pine Marten: How many of you are taking a nice post-World Series vacation after this thriller of a series? That was exhausting!
12:33
Eno Sarris: I was really toast last night. I can’t believe I’m doing more baseball this weekend.
12:34
Pine Marten: How excited are you for the Rule 5 Draft now that the WS is over? Isn’t that the best part of the offseason?!
12:34
Eno Sarris: …
12:34
Alex: Best local beers you had while in LA?
12:34
Eno Sarris: Highland Park 3 Homers hazy pale. So good.
12:34
hscer: so how does a queue the day after a world series compare to one in june, one in the postseason, and one in winter meetings
12:34
Eno Sarris: This is a little more robust than late season.
12:34
Chucks: Any future offseason articles on grips?
12:35
Eno Sarris: Next season I’ll do some more like that one I did for the Athletic on tucking the thumb: roundups about certain pitch types and differences in grip.
12:35
Kobe: Does Lester rebound this year or is this the beginning of the end?
12:36
Eno Sarris: I’m a little bit more in the ‘beginning of end’ camp. He really depends on command bringing the most out of his stuff, I feel like there’s going to be a tipping point there. It’s not like he has a ton of pitches. Maybe he goes to the change more next year as a wrinkle.
12:36
Bat: Eno, since you, like me, love the Mets…how shocked were you that they chose Callaway? I was sure they were going to go with a name like Chip Hale or Bob Geren, or at most someone like McEwing, a sacrifice bunt proponent and certainly not a new age guy like Callaway.
12:36
Eno Sarris: Gives me a bit of hope.
12:36
Alex: Darvish, Utley, Morrow, Watson, Granderson, Gutierrez are FA for the Dodgers. Likely that none of them are back?
12:36
Eno Sarris: There’s the full list. I bet none come back. Maybe one of the relievers. But they rode Morrow so hard. Maybe they reward him for that.
12:36
Babe Lincoln: You comfortable with Nimmo/Lagares platoon in CF for Mets? Should they upgrade?
12:37
Eno Sarris: They have guys for most positions, which is good. That means they can try to find the best deal and not be so obvious about their needs.
12:38
Alex: Almost unthinkable right now, but should I be shopping George Springer this week in dynasty? His performance, the World Series MVP, him being on the cover of that SI… Hate to lose him but might get a haul
12:38
Eno Sarris: He’s 28, so near end of peak window, won’t steal that many bases going forward, likely to regress in batting average. Not crazy time.
12:39
Silly Beane: OAK and SF both need OF help. StL has a surplus of OFers. Who could the Bay Area teams offer to work out a deal for a Cardinals OFer like Piscotty, Grichuk, Pham, Bader or O’Neil?
12:39
Eno Sarris: Maybe they can help the Cards get Stanton by giving up some pitching?
12:39
Bugsy Brewer: Which breakout reliever do you like more for 2018: Archie Bradley or Chad Green? Thanks!
12:39
Eno Sarris: Green! Bradley has minus minus command. Well… Bradley closer to saves though.
12:40
YKnotDisco?!: Did you read Dave’s piece about Morton today?
12:40
Eno Sarris: Literally woke up two minutes before the chat.
12:40
Ben: Why do you think we’ve been treated to two great World Series in back to back years?
12:41
Eno Sarris: We obviously didn’t deserve it.
12:41
a;sldkfj: The biggest takeaway watching the Astros win the WS was the fact the Mariners need to just commit to a rebuild. Ugh. We couldn’t have hung with any teams in the playoffs even if the pitching was healthy
12:41
Eno Sarris: We have had some tear it down teams in the series. But the Giants never tore it down. We can’t get so myopic and declare, *every* year that we should learn x y or z from the series. It was a series.
12:42
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Tony LaRussa takes a front office role with the Red Sox. Hilarious.
12:42
Eno Sarris: Maybe he has contacts within the game and can facilitate trades? That’s an underrated part of trades: they happen more often between people that are friendly.
12:42
Nicky: Maeda’s role going forward . Reliever against RHH? Eats some innings as a starter in RS? Or something like a tandem role?
12:42
Eno Sarris: Starter again.
12:43
toki: With all the money the Cubs free up this offseason, do they make a splash in FA or do they wheel and deal for starting pitching?
Personally, I like Lance Lynn and Cobb to fill the holes.
12:43
Eno Sarris: If Lynn is cheaper than Cobb, I take him. Lynn has plus command and wrinkles on his fastball. Cobb doesn’t have that. Both are two-pitch pitchers right now.
12:44
Show Hey O’Tawny: Don’t just name drop Norimoto without telling us something about him?
12:44
Eno Sarris: Remember this?
12:45
Eno Sarris: Splitter, slider, mid-90s heat. One thing that I discovered when looking at movement changes due to reg season ball change: splitter drop is down more than any other pitch…
12:45
hscer: the Astros were 55-107 in 2012. the Nats were 98-64. comfort me
12:46
Eno Sarris: You got another run in you in 2018.
12:46
toki: Future Eno, Does Brantley’s option get exorcised?
12:47
Eno Sarris: More likely exorcised than exercised, IMO. The injuries have been so plentiful.
12:47
Scott of Linconshire: Sam Adams Utopia: Worth the quest? I’ve spent countless hours searching for Pappy Van Winkle at retail price, and need a new quest to help my wife hate me even more
12:47
Eno Sarris: Hah. I… I’ll admit: it doesn’t sound like a beer I’ll like, it’s more of a brandy than a beer, but it’s one of the few bucketlist beers on my list still.
12:48
Long Live Jeff Frye: Whither the Tigers? They’re going to be bad bad–like, bad by Tigers standards–next year, right? Should they do a Houston and plan on a few years of that?
12:48
Eno Sarris: Yeah probably a good idea to trade guys like Castellanos and Fulmer next year or even this offseason, for hauls. maybe swallow the rest of Cabrera’s contract in the middle of a good year in order to get some prospects from a contender.
12:48
cj: whats your guess on the braves penalties? MLB wouldn’t want to cut Maitan and see how much minors are being underpaid right?
12:49
Eno Sarris: I’m guessing they don’t lose a player of that magnitude, baseball doesn’t want to see 30 teams going at a minor league free agent like that.
12:49
jjp: Time for non-stop Ronald Acuna questions! How wonderfully awesome will he be next year? Will he cure cancer? Walk on water?
12:50
Eno Sarris: yes, most types, with a jet pack.
12:50
E: Are pale ales the most underappreciated beer style today?
12:50
Eno Sarris: Maybe my favorite so yes?
12:50
The badger: Eno, would you have taken Morton out for a pinch hitter when his spot came up? I know past performance doesn’t help you predict future performance but with a four run lead you can stay with Morton and keep keuchel just in case.
12:51
Eno Sarris: I asked Hinch and he said, “we had help waiting and he was dealing.” I’ve seen the research that says ‘pitchers that were dealing were the same as other pitchers in the next inning’ but I question the definition of dealing. What if velo was up, or swinging strike rate? If you used those instead of RA9, what’s the next inning look like?
12:51
YKnotDisco?!: Who are you looking forward to see in the AFL the most?
12:51
Eno Sarris: Acuna, Robles.
12:51
Bruce: Utley has a World series, no? Phillies 2008?
12:52
Eno Sarris: Yes. And he was so good for those Phillies teams, maybe really the best on a team full of stars.
12:52
PandaKOST: What was going on with Charlie Morton’s postgame interview? I couldn’t tell if he was about to cry, super hopped up on adrenaline, or just forgot how to speak. It was odd. Thoughts? Side note – can we get more Bregman interviews. Dude was hilarious after game 5.
12:53
Eno Sarris: He was about to cry. He was really emotional. It was touching.
12:53
a;sldkfj: Rich Hill runs like he’s running through a field of wildflowers
12:53
Long Live Jeff Frye: Results aside, who managed better in the WS?
12:54
Eno Sarris: I don’t think either guy made a decision that really vexed me like some of Maddon’s did last year (and this year). Taking Hill out early in his first start made some of the bullpen issues come to light, but it was clearly the team’s philosophy, and it’s based on data.
12:54
Ol’ Rock: As a recent Tempe transplant can you recommend any breweries to check out? Already crossed off Four Peaks.
12:55
Eno Sarris: Well you got the worst one done, so let’s go up the list: Wren House, Arizona Wilderness, Pedal Haus, and Kings Beer & Wine for growlers.
12:56
Silly Beane: what sort of value does Rosario have in dynasty? I should use a keeper spot on him?
12:57
Eno Sarris: Nobody hurt his hype more than Rosario last year. No EV, all GB, no plate discipline. Looking more like Erick Aybar than Francisco Lindor. I’ll keep him cheap in ottoneu because he could adjust and has talent, but if you’re talking keep five or seven, no. Maybe in keep ten depending on depth of league.
12:57
toki: I wasn’t lashing out at you for the “Bellinger is a rookie comment”. I made it because putting that much pressure on a young kid this early in his career is crazy.
12:57
Eno Sarris: Yeah and I was agreeing!
12:57
Anthony: I asked Jeff, and he didn’t think so, but I’d be curious to get your take: do you think Morrow’s earning power this off-season will be depressed by his throwing 212 days in a row in the postseason? Feels like a massive durability concern, on top of the durability concern that comes with being Brandon Morrow
12:58
Eno Sarris: A savvy agent could spin it as being willing to do anything for the team, but I wouldn’t be lining up to sign him or Wade Davis really.
12:59
Aaron: Admittedly as an inhabitant of the East Coast I had hardly seen Corey Seager play until this series, but he certainly showed signs of what scouts had feared about him, that he wouldn’t stick at SS. Is he just banged up (missed the NLCS) or is he going to soon be a liability with the corners otherwise occupied at the moment?
1:00
Eno Sarris: His back wasn’t in good shape, you could see it on that flip at second error he had early in the series. I do think he’s too big to finish his career at short, but not sure looking at current depth chart matters a ton.
1:00
Nelson: I tried to be a hater of NEIPAs as long as possible… then I went to Other Half. GIMME ALL THE HAZE!!!!
1:01
Eno Sarris: There are bad ones, but when it’s done right it’s soft like pillows, still light and airy, and fruity and not that bitter. What sucks about that? (I hate the thick chewy ones)
1:01
Shawn: As a Braves fan, now that WS is over, we get our Doomsday announcement. From what you know, how does our crimes compare to Cards hacking scandal. Would we get more or less of a punishment?
1:01
Eno Sarris: Less. The stuff they are accused of is *rampant*.
1:02
Shreve Balboni: Where did you get that roast beef sandwich yesterday?
1:02
Eno Sarris: Monte 52 in Highland Park. Excellent spot.
1:02
Sonny: Baseball is over. Bad. Fall is Stout Season. Good. We finding silver linings where we can Eno
1:02
Anthony: Grandal’s game calling is atrocious? I’d never heard that before. Is that a vibe you got from people around the organization, or just your own take? Not saying it’s wrong, btw, just curious
1:03
Eno Sarris: My own take, but when you have to have a crib sheet on your arm during games it’s not a good sign.
1:03
botchatheny: what if they were spraying pliny?
1:03
Eno Sarris: I would try to catch it with my mouth instead of running away like a little school boy.
1:03
toki: What’s the worst nickname ever for a baseball player at any level?
1:03
Eno Sarris: Anything where you just add a y
1:03
kevinthecomic: Rich Hill runs like a baby giraffe on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.
1:04
Mike: Theres a difference between ‘bust’ and ‘will go through a period of struggle’, Judge and Bellinger both show us that a period of adjustment is eventually going to be necessary for Hoskins, but he’ll probably still be good, because he’s good.
He’s not Mike Trout.
1:05
Sonny: I always thought of Austin Kearns as a Miranda
1:05
Mike sixel: Got laid off last week. What beer should I celebrate my freedom with? This is the kick I needed to do something else.
1:05
Eno Sarris: Russian River Consecration, along with a consecration.
1:07
Eno Sarris: You know what day this is we should name it
1:07
Eno Sarris: (also, props to the person transcribing the lyrics on ‘eeeeeeeee’)
1:07
Anthony: Who’s the best pure athlete you’ve seen on a baseball field?
1:08
Eno Sarris: Mike Trout looks like a linebacker. Peak Jose Reyes (Lindor?) looked like an elite soccer player. Definition of an athlete is difficult.
1:08
Chris Tracy: If the Cubs let Arrieta and Davis go, it’s going to cost money and either draft picks or players to replace them. I don’t get why they just don’t pay them and keep their depth. There are still holes to fill. Letting them go creates more holes.
1:08
Eno Sarris: Just a question of resources and how much they want to spend.
1:08
Eno Sarris: In other words, do they think they can find that production cheaper from somewhere else.
1:09
Eno Sarris: Buy a non closer and elevate Edwards, get a back end pitcher like Arrieta was before he was Arrieta, that sort of thing.
1:09
stephan: Does signing Darvish give a team a leg up on winning the scrum for Otani?
1:09
Eno Sarris: I don’t think so. These guys are individuals. Remember what Darvish said when Tanaka signed his deal?
1:11
Bert: We heard a lot of talk about high spin rates this postseason. Who’s the quintessential low spin rate pitcher? Keuchel? Hendricks?
ATCQ: Any worries about Greg Bird in 2018? His ankle injury seemed like a fluke, and his bat is tempting
1:14
Eno Sarris: I’m in on Bird next year. Again.
1:14
P: Gregerson, Liriano, Beltran, Maybin and Centeno are Astros FAs. I’m not sure how that doesn’t get more hype for a repeat than the Dodgers losing a few more prominent pieces?
1:14
Eno Sarris: I think they both going to be good next year.
1:14
The Ghost of Wade Boggs: Would someone who’s ludes were all an annoyance of technology be a ludeite
1:14
bobby fats: beneath the sweeping cranberry restless eyes of THE LORD the skin of a pear is/as religious imagery
1:15
Larry David: Otani will be a bust.
1:15
Eno Sarris: Not bad, not bad.
1:15
Larry David: It’s incredibly pretentious to call blog posts “pieces”
1:17
Eno Sarris: Obviously I disagree. This is my work. Some of my pieces take weeks, months to write. Literally, since I’ve begun collecting quotes for ideas through the whole season. I pay people to do research for them, so there are teams putting these pieces together. Just because they go up on a website does not devalue them. They more permanent than a print magazine, would you say the same of a magazine piece?
1:17
Ned Yost: wow Upton just re-signed with Angels
1:17
Eno Sarris: I thought this might happen. I wonder if they have money to go after a starting pitcher too.
1:18
Eno Sarris: Hey I’m near silverlake and this voice is calming and soothing, like the opposite of Larry David.
1:18
the brew: Related to the George Springer fantasy question, would now be a good time to target Yu Darvish in an auction league?
1:19
Eno Sarris: I’d rather be sure he signed with an NL team first.
1:19
dan: Have we come to the point where the dodger acknowledge that they will not get a ring with Clayton Kershaw? He is a great, if not the best regular season pitcher, however he can’t put a team on his back and win the world series like MadBum can.
1:21
Eno Sarris: I think this is taking it too far, but it does interest me that he’s pitched 122 postseason innings to a 4.35 ERA and seemingly has a homer issue in the postseason. He’s a great pitcher, and I’m not saying he’s a choker. They can win with him. They just need to get him a really good number two. And I wonder if he relies on the fastball too much in the postseason, which is full of fastball hitters and pitchers that go to their junk more often.
1:21
hp: remarkably, a bit of research just showed me that Albert Pujols did not just have the worst 100+ RBI season of all time (by WAR). any guess who did?
1:21
Eno Sarris: Can’t be Matt Kemp, or could it be? No, wait, someone like Tony Batista or Joe Carter?
1:22
botchatheny: i just want to say: Fire mike matheny
1:22
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Hey, remember when the Rangers, Expos, and Blue Jays finished a three team, three player swap with three first basemen (David Segui, Lee Stevens, and Brad Fullmer)?
I wonder how often there has been a three team trade with exactly three Major League players (possibly playing the same position) in history…?
1:23
Eno Sarris: The ultimate challenge trade. Doubt it’s happened a lot.
1:23
YKnotDisco?!: Which co-worker is most likely to have a beer with you?
1:23
Eno Sarris: Jeff Zimmerman, homeboy extraordinaire.
1:24
I am the walrus: Rumors of a Shark and Melacon for Heyward trade. Why would the Cubs do that? How about Heyward for Shark plus $35Mill??
1:24
Eno Sarris: Dunno why the Giants would want to do that either…
1:24
Hannah Hochevar: I Love LA is STILL the best stadium-specific song. Eat out, Sweet Caroline!
1:25
Eno Sarris: Certainly beats the pants off of listening to Journey 80 times a year.
1:25
Hannah Hochevar: Jose Altuve reminds my wife of Robert Duvall
1:25
Eno Sarris: I think Sean Manaea looks like George Clooney
1:25
Moltar: I tend to take “dealing” to mean “not giving up hard contact”
1:25
Eno Sarris: Yeah we should throw Exit Velo on that list.
1:25
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: I was looking at JAWS scores for second baseman and Chase Utley is a Hall of Famer by those standards. Obviously he was really good during his peak stretch, but does he *feel* like a Hall of Famer? Put me in my place, Eno.
1:26
Eno Sarris: Best player on a team that won a ton of games and a championship. Power, speed, plate discipline.
1:26
Hannah Hochevar: Now Logan Forsyth can go back to just being the sheriff on Stranger Things.
1:27
Greg: You don’t like Four Peaks?
1:27
Eno Sarris: Their best beer is a scotch ale, Kilt Lifter, which I don’t like. It’s a decent place to go, but I don’t love their beer, no.
1:27
pirates hurdles: Wouldn’t free agent Maitan still be bound by INTL pool rules due to his age. It wouldn’t be anymore than $6 million then.
1:28
Eno Sarris: Yeah I guess so. They did release some players in the Boston decision, right? But not the most high profile one…
1:29
Manfraid: Manfred should have taken a harder stance and suspended Gurriel immediately, but was afraid of making it an even bigger story… agree or strongly agree?
1:30
Eno Sarris: Agree, with one asterisk: I think the precedent here is for regular season games, so doing the math there — how many regular season games is a world series game worth — might have been over his head or opened up a new can of worms. One that should probably have been opened.
1:31
Eno Sarris: But would he have had right to appeal? What if you suspend him for one WS game and then he appeals it and just takes a game off early next season?
1:31
Eno Sarris: Probably best thing to do is suspend him five and give him right to appeal.
1:31
Travis: You ready for the Atlanta Braves dynasty?
1:31
Eno Sarris: I am HERE for Ozzie Albies.
1:31
Bob: Do you think Carlos Gomez could ever be what he used to be? If so, will teams give him a contract based on potential?
1:32
Eno Sarris: I think his game was built on athleticism and that athleticism is waning fast. I wouldn’t give him more than a year or two.
1:32
Dodgers Dugout: How’s the Fangraphs staff doing? You guys must be crushed after watching your beloved Dodgers fail miserably.
1:32
Eno Sarris: I can’t think of anyone on staff who reps the Dodgers.
1:35
Eno Sarris: We’re all a little divorced from our fandom teams, but Dave and Jeff were once Mariner fans, Sporer / Tigers, Me complicated/Mets/Giants, Edwards/Cards, Swydan Rox/Sox, Mitchell Yanks I think, I don’t actually know about Dolinar, Sawchik.
1:35
chewbacca: Rich Hill runs like a dog is chasing him, but not a very fast dog
1:35
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Back in 2008 at the newly opened Nationals Park, my brother and I used to specifically get seats in right field to heckle Austin Kearns.
1:36
BikeChrout: I like Blue Moon, what should I expand to, I am new to the world of beer. I dont like super dark stuff, like pale ales. Live in CT.
1:37
Eno Sarris: Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale from Lagunitas, Allagash White…
1:37
Joe Don: Athletes: Mays, Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson.
1:38
Eno Sarris: But plus bat speed seems athletic, so even with his flaws, Barry Bonds.
1:38
Show Hey O’Tawny: What did he say about Tanaka’s deal?
B: You mentioned Stanton to the Cardinals earlier in the chat, but that seems like the least Cardinal like move ever. Do you really think they would trade for that contract?
1:40
Eno Sarris: They were rumored in on Donaldson, and I think they could use an impact bat to go along with all the ‘yeah just fine, good, above average’ dudes they churn out.
1:40
Dave: The data on pitchers facing a batter for the third time is pretty clear. If we go back to era when complete games were common, would we see the same pattern?
1:40
Eno Sarris: Here’s something that is not clear from the data, which is really important: is it from fatigue or from being comfortable with the arsenal, seeing all the pitches?
1:41
Brian: Pliny the Elder or Pliny the Younger?
1:41
Eno Sarris: Elder. Younger too hot.
1:42
RagsandPags: Does Tanaka opt out? Is it borderline attorney malpractice if he doesn’t?
1:42
Eno Sarris: Re-signs I bet.
1:42
Hannah Hochevar: Morrow sets the record for WS appearances. But those can be deceiving!
1:43
Eno Sarris: I’ll write on those, because yeah, it wasn’t a ton of pitches — Jansen is the one in the top five for pitches in a WS — but in terms of fatigue units, consecutive days with one day or less, things like that, Morrow set records.
1:43
Hannah Hochevar: Chase Utley looks a lot like James Caan, tho
1:43
DunningKruger: One of my favorite things is to imagine all the post-hype guys a rebuilding team could accumulate – and maybe find the next Joey Bats, Justin Turner, Chris Taylor, etc. Who are those guys for you? Maikel Franco, Castellanos, Wilmer Flores, Jorge Soler, AJ Reed?
1:45
Eno Sarris: I still like Franco for sure. I tried to use statcast stats to find next Turner and found Yasmany Tomas, Yandy Diaz, Jose Martinez, Luke Voit, Jose Osuna, Abraham Almonte, Tommy LaStella among others.
1:46
Michael: A good number 2? You mean greinke right? If only they could pair them
1:46
Kimball: How is Brian McCann only 33?
1:46
Mel: Do I keep Albies or Encarnacion in a keeper league?
1:47
Eno Sarris: Oh man, Albies skill set is so much more rare in today’s SB-less game. It’s tough but make that jump.
1:47
YKnotDisco?!: Rueben Sierra worst 100+ RBI season?
1:47
The Ghost of Wade Boggs: Alex Wilson is a clone of fat Chris Pratt
1:47
Dann: Cubs want to dump Heyward to clear a spot for Harper in 2019 (Schwarber/Almora/Happ is more than cromulent offensively), and Shark/Melancon as 4SP and CL works, both on shorter terms than JHey. No idea why SF would do it, unless they think a Pence>Heyward defensive upgrade is worty something.
1:48
Eno Sarris: Well they need a CF, Span is moving off, but the Giants also need a 4SP and reliever…
1:48
dan: Is Aaron Nola an ace?
1:48
Eno Sarris: Maybe not a first division one yet but is a top 20/30 pitcher? yes.
1:49
Strelnikov: Acuna or Gleyber Torres. Can only keep one for the next 6 years.
1:49
Eno Sarris: Acuna
1:49
John: No take on who’s better at game calling, but its worth noting that Barnes wears the crib sheet armband too
1:49
Eno Sarris: Ooh interesting. Didn’t notice. I think it was telling that they went with Barnes in the Series.
1:50
Manfraid: The commissioner CAN make a suspension immediate and not allow appeal. Again, precedent blah blah. But its possible.
1:50
Eno Sarris: Interesting. Seems… draconian.
1:50
Moltar: Manfred should have suspended Gurriel from all team activities for 6 weeks after the conclusion of the World Series – that means he’s banned from the parade and any other celebrations other than the one immediately after the game
1:50
AdamZ: Why does Fangraphs hate my team?
1:50
PandaKOST: What was your favorite moment of this WS?
Larry: Who else here changes their name so they can get multiple questions answered?
1:52
Eno Sarris: Jokes on you I rarely read the name
1:52
hp: Close — Tony Batista and Joe Carter both have multiple seasons in the top 10. it’s Ruben Sierra in 1993!
1:53
lolmets: your statement re rosario made me very sad….tell me something good
1:53
Eno Sarris: He’s a very good defender and they need more defenders!
1:53
Slick Rick: Can you suggest a good brewery in SoCal?
1:54
Eno Sarris: Beachwood, El Segundo, Highland Park, Monkish, Societe.
1:54
Otani’s hair: Help me settle an argument: When someone says “best pitcher in the league” does it mean in the entire MLB or the AL or NL respectively?
1:54
Eno Sarris: Usually MLB but I’ve hid behind AL/NL when called out on missing a player haha
1:55
Eno Sarris:
1:55
Baby Bunting: Does Otani get to choose where he signs, or does his club choose?
1:55
Eno Sarris: Otani.
1:56
Baby Bunting: Would you give Cain 4 years? Do you think you would have to give him at least 4/80?
1:56
Eno Sarris: 35 at end.. Yeah I do think he’ll get that.
1:56
Show Hey O’Tawny: Sawchik might have some Pittsburgh fandom left after being their beat guy
1:57
Eno Sarris: I was going to guess that.
1:57
Marp Catt-Tinder: I hate my job and am currently ignoring a conference call to read your chat. Thank you.
1:57
BESR: Any study on pitchers not throwing all of their pitches first time through the order, in order to give new looks later on?
1:57
Eno Sarris: That might be a way to separate fatigue and getting used to arsenal effects!
1:58
John Stamos: Paul DeJong or Addison Russell at SS next year?
1:58
Eno Sarris: Damn I guess you have to go DeJong since they projected so closely in so many places other than power, but I still think very highly of Russell.
1:58
Cal Ripken: These young kids Correa and Seager are way too big to play shortstop. Just like Tulo and A-Rod.
1:59
Jaff: Is there a mediocre pitcher who you think could turn into a dominant reliever?
1:59
Eno Sarris: I don’t know why JC Ramirez wasn’t a better reliever but I see some potential there. Perdomo would be lights out in short samples.
2:00
Show Hey O’Tawny: Of course there’s two Cardinals in there
2:00
Eno Sarris: Forgot that Christian Arroyo and Austin Slater also showed in the query.
2:00
J. Blecher: Yank: Darvish/Faria/Noah/Arrieta for fantasy keeper goodness
2:01
Eno Sarris: I’ll yank this group, it’s interesting. Still going Noah first. Arrieta vs Yu is tougher today than two weeks ago, but I’ll take Yu by a nose in a tier there.
2:01
Tony Plush: Eno, you gonna be at the game in Glendale this afternoon? I’m playing hooky …
2:01
Eno Sarris: arrive at four so going to the night game
2:01
Castellanos’ castanets: I don’t really understand why the Dodgers aren’t players for Darvish. Are we subscribing to the “emotional scars/fan anger” narrative? Too soon?
2:02
Eno Sarris: I mean they could be. Right now it seems doubtful, but give it a little bit of time.
2:02
Castellanos’ castanets: Regarding Rich Hill’s unfortunate dash: let those among you who run pretty cast the first stone.
2:02
Eno Sarris:
2:03
Moltar: How’s the Fangraphs staff doing? You guys must be crushed after watching your beloved Baseball fail to be played again for months and months
2:03
Eno Sarris: The good news is that we’re such dorks we’ll obsess over every little move in the meantime.
2:03
vivalajeter: Did you wind up getting your growlers to Arizona?
2:03
Eno Sarris: Leaving soon!
2:03
Castellanos’ castanets: What’s your best pale ale?
2:04
Eno Sarris: Maybe pseudoSue?
2:04
jjp: SoCal beer, don’t forget The Bruery in Orange County!
2:04
Castellanos’ castanets: What is the advantage of low spin? Is there one? Isn’t high spin the one that makes “tracking the little red dot” harder?
2:04
Eno Sarris: More drop.
2:04
Castellanos’ castanets: What’s going on with Urias? Did he have arm trouble?
2:04
Eno Sarris: Bad. Shoulder surgery.
2:04
Seth: Mood today after baseball ended
2:04
Seth:
2:04
YKnotDisco?!: Maybe BESR’s comment is what is described as “establishing the fastball”
2:05
Eno Sarris: dunno. I asked Stratton why he doesn’t throw the curve more and he said, relievers want to throw junk, what happens if I throw a bunch of junk before it gets to them?
2:05
Castellanos’ castanets: Who is most likely to crater next year: Chris Taylor, Zack Cozart, or Marwin Gonzalez?
2:06
Eno Sarris: Marwin IMO.
2:07
Giant Gonzales: Pretty sure with Boston they released ALL the signees from that year’s international signing period
Eno Sarris: In other words, maybe the Braves lose other players but not Maitan.
2:09
B: Sounds like the Darvish/Tanaka thing was an instance of sarcasm not being evident through print
2:09
Eno Sarris: ” I don’t know too much about the new posting system but I think the Yankees gave him too much.”
2:09
Eno Sarris: weird way to put your scarcastic comment.
2:09
ctw: what did you like most and least about covering the WS?
2:09
Eno Sarris: sharp as elbows, lines to get in the clubhouse, very little player access… great games, though, with intense crowds.
2:10
Connor: Moncada/Espinoza were signed in a different signing period. That’s why the Sox were restricted when they signed the illegal package deals
2:10
Eno Sarris: But it’s unclear *how* they got those guys on undermarket deals unless they were tied to Moncada/Espinoza by Buscon.
2:10
ATCQ: Darvish also isn’t a native English speaker, let’s remember…
2:11
Eno Sarris: Of course. My main point is really: I don’t think having another Japanese guy on the team is important unless, you know, they’re actually friends. Not all Japanese baseball players are friends!
2:11
Detroit Pet Rock City: I have pot roast leftovers and plenty of horseradish. What else should I use to make a sandwich?
2:12
Eno Sarris: Go easy. Do something fun with onions, carmelize or the like. cheddar.
2:12
Eno Sarris: Okay guys I think I have to go to the airport soon. Thanks for hanging out. Let’s have another great season next year!

Remember seeing a young hitter flailing against good pitching when he first came up….guy named Springer. Think he’s made some adjustments and while he stills fans a lot, he seems to be earning his keep…..
