Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 2/13/14
11:45 |
: Be here in 15
|
11:45 |
|
11:46 |
: Cool. Song of the day embedded. Will serve as the elevator music while you wait.
|
12:00 |
Doesn’t Jose Lobaton, Felipe Rivero and a minor leaguer for Nate Karns get you excited?!?!?1 |
12:00 |
: BABESELL
|
12:00 |
In a league that weights RBI/R/HR above everything else, how would you rank Beltre, Longoria and Wright? |
12:00 |
: Longo, Beltre, Wright.
|
12:00 |
After a three year battle, I finally convinced my league to get rid of errors. I’m so beaten down I can’t even be excited. |
12:00 |
: LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT
|
12:00 |
Who are you more worried about Iwakuma or Hamels? |
12:01 |
|
12:01 |
Runs and RBI for heyward this year? |
12:02 |
: Impossible. I can say that I think he’ll be at the top of the lineup, so more runs than RBI. And I do think he can be healthier. So something like 90/80?
|
12:02 |
How does the move to Philly change your thoughts on AJ? The groundballs help keep the ball in the park but I’m not sure about the defense for the Phillies infield and their lack of shifting compared to the Pirates. I had him pegged for about 15 wins and 3.50 ERA with Pirates but I’m thinking 11 and 3.90 now. |
12:03 |
: Yeah you can push the ERA up a bit, but I’m not buying this idea that it’s New York all over again. It’s still the NL, the ballpark is not that tiny, and he started using a two-seamer more since. I’m not calling him an ace or anything, but he’s a mixed leaguer.
|
12:03 |
Eno, I can keep two of Harvey, Cashner and Porcello in a 5×5 keep forever league. No dollar values, so equally affordable going forward. How would you make that decision? |
12:03 |
|
12:03 |
so I dealt Kole Calhoun for Avasail Garcia, amirite that, since this is a keeper league, I win the challenge trade? |
12:04 |
: Well in terms of age and prospect pedigree, for sure. And Garcia is in the right place for his power to blossom. You might lose out on year one though.
|
12:04 |
Moving to a 14-team league from 12 teams — auction draft, OBP league. Never done such a deep league. Any suggestions for how drafting strategy might/should shift? |
12:04 |
: Take a look at the 13th – 16th best at each position to get an idea of scarcity in your league. It changes just with two teams.
|
12:05 |
Hi Eno… I was interested in trying out daily leagues and wanted to know if there were any recommended sources to get this info without having to, for example, drill down by EVERY single player’s page to get their split data. Any for home park factors too? Thanks. |
12:05 |
|
12:05 |
Hi Eno…I recall last year this time where Starlin Castro was being mentioned as the possible best SS (including on Rotographs) and a year later, he’s being drafted much later in early mocks. Has that much changed? |
12:06 |
: All the momentum he had, in terms of the fact that everything was pre-peak and moving in the right direction, was halted. It’s hard to project him past 2012 now, not after 2013. So now he looks like a .280/12/15 guy at best. Still useful, but you can’t project him much past that.
|
12:06 |
Since everyone asked this for football this year and its a powder day on the east coast, IF the world series was played in the snow, what contender has the advantage? |
12:07 |
: What’s harder. hitting or pitching in snow? Running is, at least. Pitching might be too. Maybe the Sox would have the best advantage, because of their hitting, and they aren’t really built on speed.
|
12:07 |
This chat should have a soundtrack, let’s just try to keep making it weirder and weirder. |
12:07 |
|
12:07 |
:
|
12:08 |
: We do have to get weird. I didn’t sleep much. Sick again.
|
12:08 |
What do you think of San Diego’s new tourism campaign, I Love (gas)Lamp? |
12:08 |
: perfect.
|
12:08 |
Olympic Hockey! Go Canada! |
12:08 |
I paused my Breaking Bad binge to join this! |
12:08 |
Eno, |
12:08 |
Hey Eno, |
12:08 |
: Now comes the part where he tells me some bad news.
|
12:09 |
How much is too much to pay for Duda? I obviously must draft him now to justify my awesome new team name |
12:09 |
: Always think he’s worth a dollar. Without a role, not much more.
|
12:09 |
What would you say your favorite genre of music is? |
12:10 |
: Has changed a ton over time. Right now, probably indie rock, but ask again in the summer and it might be reggae again.
|
12:10 |
Any recommendations on best places to find a good assortment of craft beer at a reasonable price? Looking for places somewhere between San Mateo and San Jose. |
12:10 |
: I love Willow Market in Menlo Park on willow road. Great selection, they keep their beers (mostly) in the back and in the fridge.
|
12:10 |
I tried to access fangraphs projections and noticed you can pick positions and pick teams, but you can’t pick leagues. Is there a way to look at just NL players? |
12:10 |
: I’ll check on this.
|
12:10 |
Ozuna or Marisnick in Miami? |
12:11 |
: For me, Ozuna. His strikeout rate was much better than what you would expect from Marisnick, and he has power and speed. Even with regression, I think he’ll be better. and they stuck with him some, which is a good sign.
|
12:11 |
So how worried should I be that the Twins will have Sano and Buxton skip AAA? I am very much looking forward to seeing them in Rochester this summer. |
12:11 |
: I doubt they’ll be good, so I doubt they’ll need to rush their guys.
|
12:12 |
Choose two SP for dynasty league: Tanaka, Wacha, Salazar, Samardzjia, Cingrani. Classic 5×5 categories |
12:12 |
: Give me the changeups in pitcher’s parks — Wacha and Salazar.
|
12:12 |
Deep NL only keeper league. Thoughts on Roark ($3) and Henderson Alvarez ($5)? |
12:13 |
: They just won’t give you any Ks and that makes their upside so much lower than others. I might keep the cheaper one, but I don’t have much hope that either will add more Ks.
|
12:13 |
Lowrie to the Yanks make sense once Russell is ready? |
12:13 |
: Sure! And Castro.
|
12:13 |
Good morning, should i stick with my husband one more year? |
12:13 |
: I doubt your team will, but jeez he might be a nice guy and all.
|
12:14 |
Say something funny about baseball. |
12:14 |
: Ranking body parts wasn’t good enough? I’ll keep trying.
|
12:14 |
Would you trade Sale in order to get both Buxton and Baez in a Dynasty? |
12:15 |
: That’s pretty exciting. Between the two you should get a star position player, which is worth more than a star pitcher. I’d love if he threw in a veteran pitcher that was above league replacement level.
|
12:15 |
Zobrist worth keeping in standard 4 keeper mixed league, due to position scarcity? |
12:15 |
: No. He’s probably below Castro at this point because his batting average isn’t great.
|
12:15 |
I’m so proud of my GM for telling STHs that we won’t raise our payroll until we see attendance up at Citifield!! Bahhh Humbug!! |
12:15 |
: Ah, good one, take the team hostage.
|
12:15 |
E5 and what tier of pitcher would get me Goldy in a trade? |
12:16 |
: top 25, doesn’t need to be top ten.
|
12:16 |
SNOW DAY!! |
12:16 |
In an OBP league, Would you rather have Goldschmidt for next 3 seasons or Rizzo for the next 4? How close will they be in the future? |
12:16 |
: Goldy because one season isn’t worth three rounds a year.
|
12:17 |
In a head-to-head league that uses QS and k/9. Based on our rules, I can keep one of Lester or Salazar for the exact same price. Which would you keep? |
12:17 |
: Salazar actually. K/9 will be much better than the vets’.
|
12:17 |
With the minor injury to Iwakuma, is Paxton an OD lock now, even if he may not have been before? |
12:18 |
: Yeah he’s a lock. It was going to be two of Erasmo, Paxton, Baker, now it has to be three, or Maurer over Baker. Deep leaguers shouldn’t forget Maurer.
|
12:18 |
Please pick two of these four as contributors this year: Duffy, Mejia, Paxton, and Santiago. |
12:19 |
: Paxton and Santiago, if only for innings. On per-inning talent, I’m taking Paxton and Mejia. But Mejia. oof. career max is like 110 ip.
|
12:19 |
Does your gut say Jones is the CHI closer this year? |
12:19 |
: His strikeout rate says it too.
|
12:19 |
What are some categories besides the traditional 5X5 and OBP that you like to have in your fantasy baseball leagues? |
12:20 |
: Wrote about this a bit, but I don’t mind holds. I like thinking about setup guys.
|
12:20 |
Would you feel ok going in with d’Arnaud as your only C in a 18-team mixed keeper? |
12:20 |
: If there’s going to be a platoon backup like Ross on the wire, yes.
|
12:20 |
Khris Davis or Avasail G? |
12:21 |
: This year, Khrush. Career? Garcia?
|
12:21 |
Is Bradley Jr. a sufficient OF3 in a deep league, provided he is the opening day starter? |
12:21 |
: Unfortunately I’d have to know how deep. I’d want it to be 18+ probably. He’s not going to have a lot of HR or SB.
|
12:21 |
Ranking body parts: Illic crests #1 |
12:21 |
: Wow.
|
12:21 |
Suk-Min Yoon, starter or reliever? |
12:22 |
: Reliever. Paid like one, has been one.
|
12:22 |
Think Hector Santiago ends up in the rotation or pen this year for the Angels? |
12:22 |
: Rotation.
|
12:22 |
Catching and SP seems really deep to me. In a 12tm league I plan to be the last to draft a C… how late would you leave it before picking your first SP if you were waiting? |
12:23 |
: Wait on catchers yessss. Pitchers? I still want in on the elites, I used to wait until the tenth, but I feel better picking two guys in the top 20. So that usually means picking pitching in the 5th and 7th or so.
|
12:23 |
What are your thoughts on Jose Bautista going to into 2014? Still a good bet for 35-40 HR and great OBP if he can stay healthy? |
12:24 |
: under on the homer total and healthiness, but good while in.
|
12:24 |
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to? |
12:26 |
: Burning Spear with 50 people in Negril, The Shins with 100 people in France, Fisherspooner on Halloween in NYC and I was Kenny G, The second-to-last LCD Soundsystem gig in NYC, Rat-a-Tat at Terminal 5, Blackstar with 500 people in 1999/2000, Phish playing till dawn on first day of 2001, The Amon Tobin ISAAM gig, and Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger in 1998 in Orange County.
|
12:26 |
Palate Wrecker and Sucks has gotten me through being stuck inside for 3 days… |
12:26 |
: Upside to snow.
|
12:26 |
Eno, what do you think of Maikel Franco, he’s ranked #52 on BPs top 101 list this year, but his performance, power and ability to make contact seem to suggest he could be a big time fanto-3B soon. Thoughts? |
12:28 |
: I like him and took him with my third pick in a fantasy league farm system draft for BP, and most people liked the pick. In fantasy rankings, you have to bump all the position players higher and leave defensive concerns largely to the wayside. He’s got power and his team will give him a chance at third.
|
12:28 |
Have you ever tried your hand at home brewing? |
12:28 |
: Was bad at it. Really bad. Might try again when the kids are a bit older.
|
12:28 |
Thoughts on Yelich going 15/25 this year? |
12:28 |
: Sure. The batting average is the question.
|
12:28 |
I am really only here to provide interlude content |
12:28 |
K&L Wines in Redwood City and The Wine Club in Santa Clara are good and cheap beer places. |
12:29 |
SNOW DAY! Where I’m still at work. And no one else is…. WHY AM I HERE!!!!!! |
12:29 |
: Questions and answers lude.
|
12:29 |
What stat line does Jeter put up this year? |
12:29 |
: .275 8/12
|
12:29 |
Bryce Harper should be drafted_____th? |
12:30 |
: Mocks have him going at the turn, but wow. I mean, I don’t love love Adam Jones’ real-life game, but we’re going to take Harper ahead of him now? There’s some faithcasting in there. I’d rather have him in the middle of the second, perhaps ahead of Stanton, who’s a one-catter, but that means I won’t get many shares of Harper.
|
12:30 |
Prognosticators have been down on A. Simmons it seems for this year. He’s still pretty young. Why wouldn’t he improve? |
12:31 |
: I think the power might come back, but pop-up rate is fairly strong year to year and he’s shown that flaw twice now. He might not have a lot of good batting average years.
|
12:31 |
What’s the deal with Desmond Jennings? Does he get any better, or is this what he is? |
12:32 |
: He’s 27. Other than a good BABIP year, I don’t see much more projection there.
|
12:32 |
rays, nats trade, who comes out on top? |
12:32 |
: Nobody. We all lose.
|
12:32 |
An angle I am surprised I haven’t read yet: AJ Burnett’s agent is a genius. He managed to dodge the QO w/ the retirement talk and will dodge another one signing w/ the hapless Phils and getting dealt |
12:33 |
: but Burnett got a no-trade clause. Might just be leverage to go to the right team.
|
12:33 |
Do you like the idea of “Hitters early, pitchers late” or do you think there is no foolproof strategy and it is more of a play it based on how the draft goes? |
12:35 |
: Pitchers hit the DL more often, stay longer. Pitchers’ projections are about 75% as successful as hitter projections. Pitchers make up less of your lineup. Pitchers are grouped into two positions while hitters have many more. These are reasons to wait. If your draft starts going nuts though, I would try to get the last of a tier rather than just poop out of top pitching alltogether.
|
12:35 |
Lobaton doesn’t hurt Ramos’ fantasy value any does it? |
12:35 |
: No! Ramos is a great value pick. Lobaton is there for when he’s hurt or needs a day off.
|
12:35 |
Sleeper 2nd basemen? |
12:37 |
: Not many of them. In deep leagues, La Stella is interesting, but he doesn’t have job off the bat. Gennett in slightly more shallow leagues, but not in mixed leagues IMO. You know who I like, perhaps unreasonably, in mixed leagues?? RENDON! I think he showed health and he’s going to improve across the board. Remember the pedigree and that he has more power than he showed.
|
12:37 |
Ranking body parts: #1 – you always go for the knee |
12:37 |
: In usefulness perhaps, but in aesthetics?
|
12:37 |
Eno, Gattis was a big story in 2013, now McCann is in NY and Gattis is projo’d to hit 4th in good Braves line-up. The man can crush it, seems like a legit candidate to hit 30+ HRs this season assuming health. Wouldn’t that make him a top 5 catcher easy? Thoughts? |
12:38 |
: There is concern that his bad plate approach will give him fewer chances to hit those bombs. And he’s so much older than the other power guy at the position, there’s not much projection left. I wouldn’t go putting him in 30 homer pants yet.
|
12:38 |
Can Belt top 1000 RBI or is Posey going to steal too many ABs with his rest days at 1B? |
12:38 |
: Well 1000 would be pretty amazing. But yeah, even 100 is too much for him. He needs more power too.
|
12:39 |
I was hoping you could briefly describe your methodology for creating a value formula each season. Do you use slope regression on prior seasons results and use those results in a Standard Game Points (SGP)formula? |
12:40 |
: Zimm is your guy for that. I’m much more intuitive. I use Steamer to rein in my excitement, and then I add and subtract little bits here and there. I’ve been using Zach’s system with some tweaks, but I might switch to Art McGee’s system this year.
|
12:40 |
i love beer. is it ok that i want a contenders ss to go down with an injury so they may inquire on Alexei (at least i didn’t get fat and happy once i got paid) Ramirez? |
12:40 |
: I love beer. You interested in watching Semien or Leury?
|
12:41 |
Picking from scraps for my final keeper in 16-team dynasty w/ 40-man rosters. Have to keep one of Arroyo, Chen, Erasmo, Joe Smith, Bonifacio, Buehrle, Dempster. Which one? |
12:41 |
: I was doing a query last night and Chen has the worst slider in baseball, 6.7% swinging strikes. Turns out it’s a cutter, but that still stinks. I’ll take a shot at Erasmo’s changeup and home park.
|
12:41 |
Canada hasn’t scored against Norway yet (in Olympic hockey). The sky is falling! |
12:42 |
Sorry, Im burnt out. I mean how many rankings can one person possibly read |
12:42 |
: this is a problem because we haven’t even come out with ours yet lol
|
12:42 |
In a league that uses OBP instead of AVG, do you like Freeman or Rizzo this year? What about long term? |
12:42 |
: Freeman walks too. I’d still take him as much as I like Rizzo.
|
12:42 |
wait, “kids” as in multiple?!?!?! |
12:43 |
: Soon enough. My wife wants more.
|
12:43 |
Do you think Everth will be the same player in 2014 as 2013? I dont think you can completley dismiss the HGH, couldnt it have helped him run faster? |
12:43 |
: I think it might have helped his bat speed and therefore his contact rate. I’d push that batting average back down to the .250s.
|
12:43 |
: Was it HGH on record? I think that’s probably the least-helpful steroid.
|
12:43 |
Does Joe Kelly start or relieve this year? I’ve read some things that suggest he could even be the RH setup guy for Rosenthal. |
12:43 |
: Relieve.
|
12:43 |
I bet you are trying hard to forget Maurer! |
12:44 |
: Saw him in the AFL and still like his breaking pitch.
|
12:44 |
Keeper league question – I’ve actually got 2; which team wins? 1) Votto and Rosario for Machado, Dom Brown and Carlos Santana 2) Fielder & Cano for Marte, Verlander and Machado |
12:45 |
: 1) since Carlos probably loses catcher eligibility, I’ll take Votto side. 2) Fielder and Cano.
|
12:45 |
Does Kris Bryant contribute to fantasy leagues before September this year? |
12:45 |
: If they move him off third. His bat is ready. I doubt they will, though, so I doubt he’s up quickly.
|
12:45 |
Can you sort on BG by state instead of just by region? |
12:45 |
: yeah, click on the state inside the leaderboard and you’ll get one.
|
12:46 |
Is Beergraphs Style the same as Ratebeer Style score? |
12:46 |
: no idea. Style+ is (beer score – ave beer score in style) / (ave beer score in style).
|
12:46 |
Why does it make me so angry when fantasy commissioners completely ignore walks? |
12:46 |
: Cause you like real baseball?
|
12:46 |
I’m I crazy to think Pujols should be a 3rd round bat? Seen him going mid 50’s in mocks. |
12:47 |
: .280/28/90, which is my number right now, is worth just a bit less than Fielder…
|
12:47 |
Why does every comment about Ian desmond sound the same: “I dont loe his game, but you cant argue with back-to-back 20/20 season” |
12:47 |
: Cause his defense isn’t great and his plate discipline sucks.
|
12:48 |
100% of all published draft reviews: ” Overall, I’m pretty happy with my team, If some of my upside picks can perform as I expect them to, I should do well” |
12:48 |
follow up on Burnett’s agent is a genius: Yup, I see the no trade as extra leverage and the mutual option is yet another escape hatch to dodge the QO if he doesn’t get dealt |
12:48 |
Robin Wright’s clavicle is a fantastic body part |
12:48 |
Is zunino gonna be horrible offensively and just an OK def catchet? |
12:48 |
: He should have power
|
12:48 |
If Lagares is truly the Mets’ 4th OF, can the Mariners go rescue him – and send one of their many 4th OF in a package return? |
12:48 |
: I refuse to believe this.
|
12:49 |
SB the easiest hitting cat to find on the wire, yes? |
12:49 |
: Saves.
|
12:49 |
What’s up Eno! Snow Day(s). How many Astros is too many Astros? Seem like some late round value to be had in their young guys. You think Springer is on OD roster. |
12:49 |
: Gotta be careful about your runs and RBI though. Do not think Springer goes to Houston with the team. Too many Ks, not enough reason to start the clock.
|
12:50 |
Yahoo has Chase Headley going in the 18th-19th round? Is that such a large value in an OBP league that you would skip over guys like Donaldson in the 9th,Sandoval/Lawrie in 11th,Seager/Aramis in the 14th to land? Is a 20/10 season |
12:50 |
: Def skipping over Seager/Ararmis/Sandoval, and Lawrie in ninth…. Donaldson in 9th… that’s kind of sexy. But Headley in the 18th… might want to get both. What happens if you wait on Headley and someone nabs him.
|
12:51 |
Re: Franko, not a fan of Asche? |
12:51 |
: I think Asche might have an okay hit tool, some power and speed, but I doubt he keeps him down. They might have to move him if they can. Utley’s knees are degenerative… just sayin.
|
12:51 |
so davenport has abreu slugging 600 but most projections here have him slugging 400-50. who’s right? |
12:52 |
: Most of Davenports’ power MLEs seemed high to me. And slugging 600 is kind of crazy these days.
|
12:52 |
Do you believe Dickey Returns to a 3.50-3.80 ERA guy that can approach 200K’s in 2014? |
12:52 |
: Yes, but he’s a weird cat to own. Better in deep bench leagues like ottoneu. Because when he’s hurt, he still pitches, just worse. You want to start him when he can throw the fast knuckleball.
|
12:52 |
No goals for Canada in 20 minutes against NORWAY! The sky is still falling! |
12:52 |
Billy Hamilton, 360 OBA, 100 SB, ROY !! ??? |
12:53 |
: No, I don’t think so. But maybe .315 and 65!
|
12:53 |
Matt Cain, yay or nay? Is he going low enough to be considered a good buy low, or is his name still getting him drafted too high? |
12:53 |
: I think he’s Minor-esque.
|
12:53 |
Hey Eno, under what circumstances would you have James Paxton on your pretend baseball team? |
12:54 |
: As high as mixed league bench if I have a decent sized bench. I love getting guys like him for my bench. If they don’t work out, I’ll move on, I’m not married to him. That would make my wife mad anyway.
|
12:54 |
But damn didn’t spear play some great shows in the 90’s! |
12:54 |
Alexander Guerrero. Thoughts? |
12:55 |
: Not excited. Cuban numbers below everyone elses and now his team is worried he can’t play second.
|
12:55 |
Is rosenthal for sure the closer? |
12:55 |
: yes
|
12:55 |
Who is Zach of “Zach’s system? Is there any projection left in Kyle Seager’s game? |
12:55 |
: Zach Sanders has done full writeups of his system on our site (fVARz).
|
12:55 |
: And no, I don’t think so. There’s some pull/shifting action that might take some batting average away, even.
|
12:55 |
Do you love Brad Miller for 2014? Outside Tulo/HanRam/Desmond guys, he sees like a decent bet 15/15/.275 season. Could you be picking up a Ian Desmond-lite 15 rounds later? |
12:56 |
: yes I love love him. Been getting him in all my mocks.
|
12:56 |
What an we realistically expect from Kole Calhoun this year? |
12:56 |
: .270/18/10
|
12:56 |
Surly Darkness or Descheutes Abyss? |
12:56 |
: Aybsss
|
12:56 |
Chimay or Delirium? |
12:56 |
: Chimay but not my fave style
|
12:56 |
Beeswater Purple Nut Wheat Zydeco Oatmeal Sassafrass Peach Honey Special President’s Day Ale ? |
12:56 |
: I think I post this stupid joke every time.
|
12:56 |
Thoughts on Profar now with a starting job? Does he break into the top 5 2B by 2015? |
12:57 |
: Not this year. And honestly a little worried about the speed showing up. I’m not going to forget the pedigree, though.

Should I be worried that Homer Bailey’s velo increase doesn’t stick? Given his pedigree, I think it’s real and he’s just figured out how to locate pitches like he needs while also throwing hard, but you never know… |
12:58 |
: I’m worried about him. All of this stuff came with a velocity spike at an age when you usually see drop offs. I think we’ll see more 2012 Bailey.
|
12:58 |
Any of the Cuban defectors ready to hit the market project to be impact players? |
12:58 |
: Not Diaz. Not the shortstop they just signed. Dunno beyond.
|
12:58 |
Can you win a roto league without drafting an “ace”? |
12:59 |
: if you draft a bunch of number twos, yeah, one of them will have an ace season.
|
12:59 |
His first full year in the bigs: 8.36 k/9 (Moore: 8.88), 4.35 bb/9 (Moore: 4.11), 4.08 fip (Moore: 3.93) His second year in the bigs: 9.74 k/9 (Moore: 8.56), 4.79 bb/9 (Moore: 4.55), 3.08 fip (Moore: 3.95) His third full year in the bigs: 9.34 k/9, 3.57 bb/9, 3.12 fip. The other player is Kershaw. Not saying Moore is the next Kershaw. But do you think it is a possibility Moore could follow a similar path and really break out this year? |
12:59 |
: I don’t see it because we’re already seeing Moore’s velocity drop and he’s already been on the DL once.
|
12:59 |
Eno you should join the 7 line army Miami take-over in June. 650 or so Mets fans all sitting together at Marlins Stadium. |
1:00 |
: should outnumber the Marlins fans at least two to one.
|
1:00 |
How many beergraphs writers are in here currently? |
1:00 |
: I don’t see the one that normally comes.
|
1:00 |
In a dynasty league, where my team is strong but not necessarily a favorite to win, would you deal an aging Beltre for Maikel Franco and Anthony Rendon? |
1:00 |
: This is the time to do it, but I’d want a little more.
|
1:01 |
Reading chats 20 minutes behind makes it difficult to ask new questions. |
1:01 |
Also, I did not know that a white coated tongue is a symptom of constipation. |
1:01 |
Im here, what did I miss? Beer? Baseball? Ludes? |
1:01 |
: You missed… that.
|
1:02 |
Adams or Abreu at 1B for dynasty? |
1:02 |
: Abreu IMO. Adams a big pull guy with high K%. Abreu *might* not be.
|
1:03 |
I know you spend a ton of time looking at pitch values and whiff/swing…etc. Is there any guy you have saw excellent pitch f/x data on and are looking breakout in/have faith in? |
1:03 |
: Estrada? His offspeed offerings are really good.
|
1:03 |
partial to the taint |
1:03 |
oooo, I love me some Semien |
1:04 |
Thoughts on strong craft beers at a ballgame? |
1:04 |
: Be careful lude.
|
1:04 |
What type of prospect is needed to bridge the gap in a starlin for kipnis swap? |
1:04 |
: A great one. Top five.
|
1:04 |
Thoughts on Cobb? He is going around guys like Shields,Cole,Bailey, and Wacha? Decent strikeouts, sexy GB%, and great change. |
1:05 |
: And the curve is great too. I’d take him ahead of Bailey. But Cole is still best.
|
1:05 |
Did you try Pliny the Younger this time around? I bailed on the 10.5 hour line. I guess I’m just a craft beer poseur. |
1:05 |
: Friends went on a week day and I passed. they waited 7 hours.
|
1:05 |
Hello Eno, So are you predicting Miller for 275/15/15? What’s your Boegarts prediction? |
1:06 |
: Something like that. Bogaerts I have at .260/18/10
|
1:06 |
A white coated tongue is a clear symptom of having a tongue. |
1:06 |
Is this the body part chat? Nostril is a pretty terrible name for a body part. |
1:06 |
Opposable Thumbs – the best body part…. related to baseball.. |
1:06 |
Should I be selling |
1:06 |
: Love this lude.
|
1:07 |
From your experience in clubhouses, what would you think the reaction would be to a Michael Sam in MLB? |
1:08 |
: There are all sorts of people in the clubhouse. Not sure they’d be extremely popular, can’t speak for all as a monolith, but it’s fairly conservative in there. But could he exist in the clubhouse and go to work and not bother anyone? Yes.
|
1:08 |
Who do you target at 2B in an OPS league? Utley with a decent upside backup? Like an Ultey/Profar or Rendon? |
1:08 |
: Profar might be a little expensive based on this year value. I really like the Utley/Rendon connection though.
|
1:08 |
Who am I better off with for overall 5×5 production, Segura or Leonys Martin? |
1:09 |
: Segura
|
1:09 |
Fantasy questions: how does your strategy change when there are two catcher spots versus one? How does it change when you start getting bigger leagues (10 team versus 12, 13, 14, etc.)? |
1:09 |
: Huge. You actually have to draft catchers if there are two. the 24th-best catcher is pretty putrid.
|
1:09 |
What are some your favorite guys to take in round 24-25 assuming you have everything covered?(non-catcher) |
1:11 |
: Did a 15-team mock for RW, liked: Ian Kennedy, Jaime Garcia, Alcides Escobar, James Paxton. KEVIN GAUSMAN, Cody Asche, Jameson Taillon, Yonder Alonso.
|
1:11 |
re Estrada…..isn’t he too homer prone? Does this reduce his breakout potential? |
1:12 |
: Of course, but even just a couple fewer homers could really go a long way. And he has some ground ball stuff.
|
1:12 |
So, who will be the first player to give Jeter a gift basket? |
1:12 |
: Wait are you asking me which player will sleep with Derek Jeter first?
|
1:12 |
Points based keeper league where my team is a strong contender. Keep Holliday for one more year or go with Salazar’s upside? |
1:12 |
: Keep the hitter another year!
|
1:13 |
Why should pitchers aspire to high K’s, low BB’s, and GB’s when it’s been studied that pitchers who routinely beat their FIPs are actually LOW GB/HIGH FB lefties? Trying to understand what’s optimal. |
1:13 |
: Do you want to beat your FIP or be really good? High FBs correlated with Ks.
|
1:13 |
If you like Semien you’ll go ape over simian. [COMPUTATIONS FOUND THIS PUN TO HAVE ACCEPTABLE LEVELS OF HUMOR] |
1:13 |
Eno! Like the white rabbit, im late but make a big impression. |
1:13 |
Glenn Burke was openly gay in the 1979 in MLB. He also invented the high-five with Dusty Baker. |
1:13 |
Esophagus |
1:13 |
: I have a sore throat right now groan.
|
1:14 |
Traded Wil Myers for David Price & Jean Segura. Roto keeper, no compensation for keeping, no time limit. Good move? |
1:14 |
: I actually like it. I think Myer’s BA will go down, and you didn’t trade really far down from Myers to Segura and you bought low on an ace.
|
1:15 |
Whats the largest (most teams) league you’ve ever heard of or participated in? |
1:15 |
: Dunno about heard of. I’m in a 12-team AL-only scoresheet with 40-man rosters right now, that’s deeper than my 20-teamer mixed with 40-man rosters.
|
1:15 |
chances Profar is being under-projected due to a largely fixable “not swinging enough” problem? The contact skills are elite (5.5% swSTR) and he was a top prospect for a reason…. |
1:16 |
: And he does have power. It’s true. Just a fair amount of risk there. worth it more in keeper leagues.
|
1:16 |
Thoughts on Smyly as a starter this year |
1:16 |
: He hasn’t really thrown the change-up for a year and there has to be *some* limit on his innings. Excited to see, but not paying a bunch to own.
|
1:17 |
Sleeping with Jeter is optional. Just curious to know what player is most likely to pull a little joke on him. |
1:17 |
oooo, areola |
1:17 |
do you still have the waffle button? |
1:17 |
: I’m hungry and pushing lots of buttons right now but only these stupid words are coming out.
|
1:17 |
Eno’sophagus |
1:17 |
so you’re saying miller better than bogaerts? cmawn! |
1:18 |
: Not for careers. This year? I can see it. Miller older, closer to peak, and guaranteed a starting role. Stephen Drew is not signed. If he signs elsewhere, all the counting stats for Bogey go up. I do think Miller will hit for better BA.
|
1:18 |
Im sorry but they dragged out the Rivera goodbye tour last year and now they’ll milk the Jeter farewell.unlike espn I dont care for the Yankees. |
1:18 |
: I want no part of milking Jeter either.
|
1:18 |
Islets of Langerhans. It’s a body part. |
1:19 |
In the wake of Wolf of Wall St, does anyone ever get nervous for you when you mention that you love ‘lude breaks in the middle of your chats? |
1:19 |
: Someone sent me a picture of a car with that on the license plate and I was like oh boy that’s probably something else.
|
1:19 |
crazy that everth cabrera = jean segura + 15-20 more steals? his ped’s weren’t doing anything really, batting eye and patience increase not caused by strength. .280/5/100r/50rbi/50 sb reasonable? |
1:19 |
: Contact rate is helped by bat speed is helped by PEDs. E-Cab gonna hit .250 for me.
|
1:20 |
if you dont play in any 30 team leagues you are missing out |
1:20 |
HR only league… name one player who didn’t hit many home runs last year (had to hit at least one) who is going to hit a LOT more this year. |
1:21 |
: Khrush Davis? Adams I guess.
|
1:21 |
Thoughts on power vs. control pitchers? Thinking back, guys like Gausman haven’t panned out as well as power pitchers. Reminds me of guys like Slowey and Sowers. |
1:22 |
: Nothing about Gausman is like Slowey or Sowers! Gausman throws 97 with a killer split change, a good regular change, and an okay slider. Yes, he has good control, but he’s a power pitcher.
|
1:22 |
Gausman affected by the Yoon signing? |
1:22 |
: Gausman is the only guy on that team with ace upside.
|
1:22 |
crazy to not keep justin upton and instead keep salazar? |
1:22 |
: yes
|
1:22 |
weenus (look it up) |
1:22 |
: no
|
1:23 |
yordano ventura end up 2014 badass? |
1:23 |
: no. does he have a second pitch?
|
1:23 |
K-Rod see some saves this year in MIL? |
1:23 |
: O’s could still sign him.
|
1:23 |
Thoughts on Kluber? Fantastic slider, above average change, decent cutter and curve. |
1:23 |
: command goes in and out and that’s when the homers come. That’s the only negative I’ve been able to find.
|
1:23 |
PSA: Slam dunk contest from 1990 on NBA network right now. Shawn Kemp, Dominique Wilkins. |
1:24 |
: Loved Nique.
|
1:24 |
Eno I’m stranded trying to go on a ski-cation. Tell me good news about baseball! |
1:24 |
: It’s right around the corner! Everyone’s got a shot!
|
1:24 |
Freeman in 9th, Cole, or Bogaerts that would cost last pick as final keeper? Already have C.davis and Segura |
1:25 |
: You have a first baseman and a shortstop… strict value guys would say bogaerts, but I love me some Cole, and he might fit your team better. I think this is the first year he’s a fantasy ace.
|
1:25 |
Im kidding myself if I think I can get encarnacion in the second round, right? |
1:25 |
: I’m seeing go right around 10-13
|
1:25 |
Doesn’t Dylan Bundy also have ace upside (obviously not this year though)? |
1:26 |
: Yeah, I meant this year.
|
1:26 |
think david price gains back some of the K-rate? |
1:26 |
: If he goes to the NL.
|
1:26 |
I’m listening to the Podcast while being in this chat. How does Eno do these things at the same time? |
1:26 |
: MAGIC
|
1:26 |
The Phillies are actively trying to be the oldest ballclub on record? I bet they were dissapointed about missing out on colon. |
1:26 |
: I read that as missing a colon and it still made sense.
|
1:26 |
O’s cannot sign KRod, Brewers just did. (you drinking, or something?) |
1:27 |
: Ah, missed that somehow. er. Saves in Milwaukee? I like Henderson, but his walk rate could explode again.
|
1:27 |
Mr. Wrestling IV, Eno can do that because he’s an alien. Cistulli broke that news weeks ago. |
1:27 |
how do i stop playing the FG+ player profile game? |
1:27 |
: start making your own projections? or projecting players on the player pages?
|
1:27 |
Beergraphs writer here! Just running 25 minutes behind in the chat! |
1:27 |
When do you think Baez will come up and what kinda impact behind the plate do you project for him? |
1:29 |
: Dude, the other question you’re asking about Kershaw and Moore. I answered that one. This one… Baez’s K% makes me nervous. I get nervous about high strikeout rates. But he should be up this year — what position I dunno. And if he has 80% of the power that people say he does, he’ll have an impact.
|
1:29 |
Will Middlebrooks BSHOL alert |
1:29 |
: but what about his eyes
|
1:29 |
On the podcast the other day, you said Rafael Soriano went on the DL last year. He did not |
1:30 |
: Which is sort of amazing, considering there were updates about his elbow health, he took time off without going on DL, and his velocity was all over the place. I still think he’s headed for time off.
|
1:30 |
Is it reasonable to take Cole above the likes of Latos, Shields, maybe even Grienke in H2H pts? |
1:30 |
: That’s taking it a bit far. Over Shields, yes. And wait past LatosGreinke and get cole in next round.
|
1:30 |
gotta get some work done. Thanks Eno! |
1:30 |
: Yeah I gotta go too!
|
1:30 |
: Thanks guys!!
|
1:31 |
: Next week I won’t be sick, hopefully.
|
1:31 |
No lightning? well thanks anyways |
