11:46
Eno Sarris: Cool. Song of the day embedded. Will serve as the elevator music while you wait.

12:00
Comment From David
Doesn’t Jose Lobaton, Felipe Rivero and a minor leaguer for Nate Karns get you excited?!?!?1

12:00
Eno Sarris: BABESELL

12:00
Comment From Brian
In a league that weights RBI/R/HR above everything else, how would you rank Beltre, Longoria and Wright?

12:00
Eno Sarris: Longo, Beltre, Wright.

12:00
Comment From bdhudson
After a three year battle, I finally convinced my league to get rid of errors. I’m so beaten down I can’t even be excited.

12:00
Eno Sarris: LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT

12:00
Comment From Miketron
Who are you more worried about Iwakuma or Hamels?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Hamels. Shoulders are worse than fingers. Well, *injured* shoulders are worse than fingers. I doubt we need to rank body parts. Do we?

12:01
Comment From Guest
Runs and RBI for heyward this year?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Impossible. I can say that I think he’ll be at the top of the lineup, so more runs than RBI. And I do think he can be healthier. So something like 90/80?

12:02
Comment From Los
How does the move to Philly change your thoughts on AJ? The groundballs help keep the ball in the park but I’m not sure about the defense for the Phillies infield and their lack of shifting compared to the Pirates. I had him pegged for about 15 wins and 3.50 ERA with Pirates but I’m thinking 11 and 3.90 now.

12:03
Eno Sarris: Yeah you can push the ERA up a bit, but I’m not buying this idea that it’s New York all over again. It’s still the NL, the ballpark is not that tiny, and he started using a two-seamer more since. I’m not calling him an ace or anything, but he’s a mixed leaguer.

12:03
Comment From Jon
Eno, I can keep two of Harvey, Cashner and Porcello in a 5×5 keep forever league. No dollar values, so equally affordable going forward. How would you make that decision?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Upside. Even with the curve ball, I’m taking Harvey and Cashner and winning when they’re both healthy.

12:03
Comment From fantasy gm
so I dealt Kole Calhoun for Avasail Garcia, amirite that, since this is a keeper league, I win the challenge trade?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Well in terms of age and prospect pedigree, for sure. And Garcia is in the right place for his power to blossom. You might lose out on year one though.

12:04
Comment From Josh
Moving to a 14-team league from 12 teams — auction draft, OBP league. Never done such a deep league. Any suggestions for how drafting strategy might/should shift?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Take a look at the 13th – 16th best at each position to get an idea of scarcity in your league. It changes just with two teams.

12:05
Comment From Home Park Factors and Splits Data
Hi Eno… I was interested in trying out daily leagues and wanted to know if there were any recommended sources to get this info without having to, for example, drill down by EVERY single player’s page to get their split data. Any for home park factors too? Thanks.

12:05
Eno Sarris: We have a ‘guts’ page with easy park factors done by handedness, so that’ll help. And we’ll have posts here every day on daily fantasy!

12:05
Comment From Home ParkStarlin’s rise and fall and….
Hi Eno…I recall last year this time where Starlin Castro was being mentioned as the possible best SS (including on Rotographs) and a year later, he’s being drafted much later in early mocks. Has that much changed?

12:06
Eno Sarris: All the momentum he had, in terms of the fact that everything was pre-peak and moving in the right direction, was halted. It’s hard to project him past 2012 now, not after 2013. So now he looks like a .280/12/15 guy at best. Still useful, but you can’t project him much past that.

12:06
Comment From Spencer
Since everyone asked this for football this year and its a powder day on the east coast, IF the world series was played in the snow, what contender has the advantage?

12:07
Eno Sarris: What’s harder. hitting or pitching in snow? Running is, at least. Pitching might be too. Maybe the Sox would have the best advantage, because of their hitting, and they aren’t really built on speed.

12:07
Comment From Lenard
This chat should have a soundtrack, let’s just try to keep making it weirder and weirder.

12:07
Eno Sarris: Okay!

12:07

12:08
Eno Sarris: We do have to get weird. I didn’t sleep much. Sick again.

Hey Eno,

12:08
Eno Sarris: Now comes the part where he tells me some bad news.

12:09
Comment From Conquering Lions of Duda
How much is too much to pay for Duda? I obviously must draft him now to justify my awesome new team name

12:09
Eno Sarris: Always think he’s worth a dollar. Without a role, not much more.

12:09
Comment From JEB
What would you say your favorite genre of music is?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Has changed a ton over time. Right now, probably indie rock, but ask again in the summer and it might be reggae again.

12:10
Comment From SF Bay Area Beer Stores
Any recommendations on best places to find a good assortment of craft beer at a reasonable price? Looking for places somewhere between San Mateo and San Jose.

12:10
Eno Sarris: I love Willow Market in Menlo Park on willow road. Great selection, they keep their beers (mostly) in the back and in the fridge.

12:10
Comment From john
I tried to access fangraphs projections and noticed you can pick positions and pick teams, but you can’t pick leagues. Is there a way to look at just NL players?

12:10
Eno Sarris: I’ll check on this.

12:10
Comment From john
Ozuna or Marisnick in Miami?

12:11
Eno Sarris: For me, Ozuna. His strikeout rate was much better than what you would expect from Marisnick, and he has power and speed. Even with regression, I think he’ll be better. and they stuck with him some, which is a good sign.

12:11
Comment From Miketron
So how worried should I be that the Twins will have Sano and Buxton skip AAA? I am very much looking forward to seeing them in Rochester this summer.

12:11
Eno Sarris: I doubt they’ll be good, so I doubt they’ll need to rush their guys.

12:12
Comment From YOUNG sp
Choose two SP for dynasty league: Tanaka, Wacha, Salazar, Samardzjia, Cingrani. Classic 5×5 categories

12:12
Eno Sarris: Give me the changeups in pitcher’s parks — Wacha and Salazar.

12:12
Comment From Brian
Deep NL only keeper league. Thoughts on Roark ($3) and Henderson Alvarez ($5)?

12:13
Eno Sarris: They just won’t give you any Ks and that makes their upside so much lower than others. I might keep the cheaper one, but I don’t have much hope that either will add more Ks.

12:13
Comment From Derek
Lowrie to the Yanks make sense once Russell is ready?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Sure! And Castro.

12:13
Comment From Mrs. Gordon Beckham
Good morning, should i stick with my husband one more year?

12:13
Eno Sarris: I doubt your team will, but jeez he might be a nice guy and all.

12:14
Comment From Guest
Say something funny about baseball.

12:14
Eno Sarris: Ranking body parts wasn’t good enough? I’ll keep trying.

12:14
Comment From Sagar
Would you trade Sale in order to get both Buxton and Baez in a Dynasty?

12:15
Eno Sarris: That’s pretty exciting. Between the two you should get a star position player, which is worth more than a star pitcher. I’d love if he threw in a veteran pitcher that was above league replacement level.

12:15
Comment From JEB
Zobrist worth keeping in standard 4 keeper mixed league, due to position scarcity?

12:15
Eno Sarris: No. He’s probably below Castro at this point because his batting average isn’t great.

12:15
Comment From Fred Coupon
I’m so proud of my GM for telling STHs that we won’t raise our payroll until we see attendance up at Citifield!! Bahhh Humbug!!

12:15
Eno Sarris: Ah, good one, take the team hostage.

12:15
Comment From Lenard
E5 and what tier of pitcher would get me Goldy in a trade?

12:16
Eno Sarris: top 25, doesn’t need to be top ten.

12:16
Comment From Hey Eno!
SNOW DAY!!

12:16
Comment From DC
In an OBP league, Would you rather have Goldschmidt for next 3 seasons or Rizzo for the next 4? How close will they be in the future?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Goldy because one season isn’t worth three rounds a year.

12:17
Comment From Matt
In a head-to-head league that uses QS and k/9. Based on our rules, I can keep one of Lester or Salazar for the exact same price. Which would you keep?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Salazar actually. K/9 will be much better than the vets’.

12:17
Comment From Tony
With the minor injury to Iwakuma, is Paxton an OD lock now, even if he may not have been before?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Yeah he’s a lock. It was going to be two of Erasmo, Paxton, Baker, now it has to be three, or Maurer over Baker. Deep leaguers shouldn’t forget Maurer.

12:18
Comment From Phil
Please pick two of these four as contributors this year: Duffy, Mejia, Paxton, and Santiago.

12:19
Eno Sarris: Paxton and Santiago, if only for innings. On per-inning talent, I’m taking Paxton and Mejia. But Mejia. oof. career max is like 110 ip.

12:19
Comment From Jack
Does your gut say Jones is the CHI closer this year?

12:19
Eno Sarris: His strikeout rate says it too.

12:19
Comment From Daniel
What are some categories besides the traditional 5X5 and OBP that you like to have in your fantasy baseball leagues?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Wrote about this a bit, but I don’t mind holds. I like thinking about setup guys.

12:20
Comment From Jamie
Would you feel ok going in with d’Arnaud as your only C in a 18-team mixed keeper?

12:20
Eno Sarris: If there’s going to be a platoon backup like Ross on the wire, yes.

12:20
Comment From Ajas Fahtid
Khris Davis or Avasail G?

12:21
Eno Sarris: This year, Khrush. Career? Garcia?

12:21
Comment From Jason
Is Bradley Jr. a sufficient OF3 in a deep league, provided he is the opening day starter?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Unfortunately I’d have to know how deep. I’d want it to be 18+ probably. He’s not going to have a lot of HR or SB.

12:21
Comment From filihok
Ranking body parts: Illic crests #1

12:21
Eno Sarris: Wow.

12:21

Suk-Min Yoon, starter or reliever?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Reliever. Paid like one, has been one.

12:22
Comment From Mike
Think Hector Santiago ends up in the rotation or pen this year for the Angels?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Rotation.

12:22
Comment From Stephen
Catching and SP seems really deep to me. In a 12tm league I plan to be the last to draft a C… how late would you leave it before picking your first SP if you were waiting?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Wait on catchers yessss. Pitchers? I still want in on the elites, I used to wait until the tenth, but I feel better picking two guys in the top 20. So that usually means picking pitching in the 5th and 7th or so.

12:23
Comment From Gila Monster
What are your thoughts on Jose Bautista going to into 2014? Still a good bet for 35-40 HR and great OBP if he can stay healthy?

12:24
Eno Sarris: under on the homer total and healthiness, but good while in.

12:24
Comment From Stephen
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

12:26
Eno Sarris: Burning Spear with 50 people in Negril, The Shins with 100 people in France, Fisherspooner on Halloween in NYC and I was Kenny G, The second-to-last LCD Soundsystem gig in NYC, Rat-a-Tat at Terminal 5, Blackstar with 500 people in 1999/2000, Phish playing till dawn on first day of 2001, The Amon Tobin ISAAM gig, and Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger in 1998 in Orange County.

12:26
Comment From Kris
Palate Wrecker and Sucks has gotten me through being stuck inside for 3 days…

12:26
Eno Sarris: Upside to snow.

12:26
Comment From NapolisDeadHips
Eno, what do you think of Maikel Franco, he’s ranked #52 on BPs top 101 list this year, but his performance, power and ability to make contact seem to suggest he could be a big time fanto-3B soon. Thoughts?

12:28
Eno Sarris: I like him and took him with my third pick in a fantasy league farm system draft for BP, and most people liked the pick. In fantasy rankings, you have to bump all the position players higher and leave defensive concerns largely to the wayside. He’s got power and his team will give him a chance at third.

12:28
Comment From Spencer
Have you ever tried your hand at home brewing?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Was bad at it. Really bad. Might try again when the kids are a bit older.

12:28
Comment From Hal Jalikakic
Thoughts on Yelich going 15/25 this year?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Sure. The batting average is the question.

Eno Sarris: .275 8/12

12:29
Comment From Guest
Bryce Harper should be drafted_____th?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Mocks have him going at the turn, but wow. I mean, I don’t love love Adam Jones’ real-life game, but we’re going to take Harper ahead of him now? There’s some faithcasting in there. I’d rather have him in the middle of the second, perhaps ahead of Stanton, who’s a one-catter, but that means I won’t get many shares of Harper.

12:30
Comment From Hal Jalikakic
Prognosticators have been down on A. Simmons it seems for this year. He’s still pretty young. Why wouldn’t he improve?

12:31
Eno Sarris: I think the power might come back, but pop-up rate is fairly strong year to year and he’s shown that flaw twice now. He might not have a lot of good batting average years.

12:31
Comment From Xavier
What’s the deal with Desmond Jennings? Does he get any better, or is this what he is?

12:32
Eno Sarris: He’s 27. Other than a good BABIP year, I don’t see much more projection there.

12:32
Comment From Teddy
rays, nats trade, who comes out on top?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Nobody. We all lose.

12:32
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
An angle I am surprised I haven’t read yet: AJ Burnett’s agent is a genius. He managed to dodge the QO w/ the retirement talk and will dodge another one signing w/ the hapless Phils and getting dealt

12:33
Eno Sarris: but Burnett got a no-trade clause. Might just be leverage to go to the right team.

12:33
Comment From Fantasy Baseball
Do you like the idea of “Hitters early, pitchers late” or do you think there is no foolproof strategy and it is more of a play it based on how the draft goes?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Pitchers hit the DL more often, stay longer. Pitchers’ projections are about 75% as successful as hitter projections. Pitchers make up less of your lineup. Pitchers are grouped into two positions while hitters have many more. These are reasons to wait. If your draft starts going nuts though, I would try to get the last of a tier rather than just poop out of top pitching alltogether.

12:35
Comment From Guest
Lobaton doesn’t hurt Ramos’ fantasy value any does it?

12:35
Eno Sarris: No! Ramos is a great value pick. Lobaton is there for when he’s hurt or needs a day off.

12:35
Comment From Spencer
Sleeper 2nd basemen?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Not many of them. In deep leagues, La Stella is interesting, but he doesn’t have job off the bat. Gennett in slightly more shallow leagues, but not in mixed leagues IMO. You know who I like, perhaps unreasonably, in mixed leagues?? RENDON! I think he showed health and he’s going to improve across the board. Remember the pedigree and that he has more power than he showed.

12:37
Comment From LudeBurger
Ranking body parts: #1 – you always go for the knee

12:37
Eno Sarris: In usefulness perhaps, but in aesthetics?

12:37
Comment From NapolisDeadHips
Eno, Gattis was a big story in 2013, now McCann is in NY and Gattis is projo’d to hit 4th in good Braves line-up. The man can crush it, seems like a legit candidate to hit 30+ HRs this season assuming health. Wouldn’t that make him a top 5 catcher easy? Thoughts?

12:38
Eno Sarris: There is concern that his bad plate approach will give him fewer chances to hit those bombs. And he’s so much older than the other power guy at the position, there’s not much projection left. I wouldn’t go putting him in 30 homer pants yet.

12:38
Comment From Richard Hisiner
Can Belt top 1000 RBI or is Posey going to steal too many ABs with his rest days at 1B?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Well 1000 would be pretty amazing. But yeah, even 100 is too much for him. He needs more power too.

12:39
Comment From Rusty
I was hoping you could briefly describe your methodology for creating a value formula each season. Do you use slope regression on prior seasons results and use those results in a Standard Game Points (SGP)formula?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Zimm is your guy for that. I’m much more intuitive. I use Steamer to rein in my excitement, and then I add and subtract little bits here and there. I’ve been using Zach’s system with some tweaks, but I might switch to Art McGee’s system this year.

12:40
Comment From daryl boston
i love beer. is it ok that i want a contenders ss to go down with an injury so they may inquire on Alexei (at least i didn’t get fat and happy once i got paid) Ramirez?

12:40
Eno Sarris: I love beer. You interested in watching Semien or Leury?

12:41
Comment From Teller
Picking from scraps for my final keeper in 16-team dynasty w/ 40-man rosters. Have to keep one of Arroyo, Chen, Erasmo, Joe Smith, Bonifacio, Buehrle, Dempster. Which one?

12:41
Eno Sarris: I was doing a query last night and Chen has the worst slider in baseball, 6.7% swinging strikes. Turns out it’s a cutter, but that still stinks. I’ll take a shot at Erasmo’s changeup and home park.

In a league that uses OBP instead of AVG, do you like Freeman or Rizzo this year? What about long term?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Freeman walks too. I’d still take him as much as I like Rizzo.

Comment From LudeBurger

12:43
Eno Sarris: Soon enough. My wife wants more.

Comment From Bruce
Do you think Everth will be the same player in 2014 as 2013? I dont think you can completley dismiss the HGH, couldnt it have helped him run faster?

12:43
Eno Sarris: I think it might have helped his bat speed and therefore his contact rate. I’d push that batting average back down to the .250s.

12:43
Eno Sarris: Was it HGH on record? I think that’s probably the least-helpful steroid.

12:43
Comment From Tim
Does Joe Kelly start or relieve this year? I’ve read some things that suggest he could even be the RH setup guy for Rosenthal.

12:43
Eno Sarris: Relieve.

12:43

12:44
Eno Sarris: Saw him in the AFL and still like his breaking pitch.

Keeper league question – I’ve actually got 2; which team wins? 1) Votto and Rosario for Machado, Dom Brown and Carlos Santana 2) Fielder & Cano for Marte, Verlander and Machado

12:45
Eno Sarris: 1) since Carlos probably loses catcher eligibility, I’ll take Votto side. 2) Fielder and Cano.

12:45
Comment From Kyle
Does Kris Bryant contribute to fantasy leagues before September this year?

12:45

I’m I crazy to think Pujols should be a 3rd round bat? Seen him going mid 50’s in mocks.

Why does every comment about Ian desmond sound the same: “I dont loe his game, but you cant argue with back-to-back 20/20 season”

What’s up Eno! Snow Day(s). How many Astros is too many Astros? Seem like some late round value to be had in their young guys. You think Springer is on OD roster.

12:49
Eno Sarris: Gotta be careful about your runs and RBI though. Do not think Springer goes to Houston with the team. Too many Ks, not enough reason to start the clock.

12:50
Comment From Matt
Yahoo has Chase Headley going in the 18th-19th round? Is that such a large value in an OBP league that you would skip over guys like Donaldson in the 9th,Sandoval/Lawrie in 11th,Seager/Aramis in the 14th to land? Is a 20/10 season

12:50
Eno Sarris: Def skipping over Seager/Ararmis/Sandoval, and Lawrie in ninth…. Donaldson in 9th… that’s kind of sexy. But Headley in the 18th… might want to get both. What happens if you wait on Headley and someone nabs him.

12:51
Comment From Rags
Re: Franko, not a fan of Asche?

12:51
Eno Sarris: I think Asche might have an okay hit tool, some power and speed, but I doubt he keeps him down. They might have to move him if they can. Utley’s knees are degenerative… just sayin.

12:51
Comment From Guest
so davenport has abreu slugging 600 but most projections here have him slugging 400-50. who’s right?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Most of Davenports’ power MLEs seemed high to me. And slugging 600 is kind of crazy these days.

12:52
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
Do you believe Dickey Returns to a 3.50-3.80 ERA guy that can approach 200K’s in 2014?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Yes, but he’s a weird cat to own. Better in deep bench leagues like ottoneu. Because when he’s hurt, he still pitches, just worse. You want to start him when he can throw the fast knuckleball.

12:53
Comment From RotoLando
Hey Eno, under what circumstances would you have James Paxton on your pretend baseball team?

12:54
Eno Sarris: As high as mixed league bench if I have a decent sized bench. I love getting guys like him for my bench. If they don’t work out, I’ll move on, I’m not married to him. That would make my wife mad anyway.

Eno Sarris: Zach Sanders has done full writeups of his system on our site (fVARz).

12:55
Eno Sarris: And no, I don’t think so. There’s some pull/shifting action that might take some batting average away, even.

Do you love Brad Miller for 2014? Outside Tulo/HanRam/Desmond guys, he sees like a decent bet 15/15/.275 season. Could you be picking up a Ian Desmond-lite 15 rounds later?

Thoughts on Profar now with a starting job? Does he break into the top 5 2B by 2015?

12:57
Eno Sarris: Not this year. And honestly a little worried about the speed showing up. I’m not going to forget the pedigree, though.

12:57
Comment From Dan
Should I be worried that Homer Bailey’s velo increase doesn’t stick? Given his pedigree, I think it’s real and he’s just figured out how to locate pitches like he needs while also throwing hard, but you never know…

12:58
Eno Sarris: I’m worried about him. All of this stuff came with a velocity spike at an age when you usually see drop offs. I think we’ll see more 2012 Bailey.

12:58

Can you win a roto league without drafting an “ace”?

12:59
Eno Sarris: if you draft a bunch of number twos, yeah, one of them will have an ace season.

12:59
Comment From Robert
His first full year in the bigs: 8.36 k/9 (Moore: 8.88), 4.35 bb/9 (Moore: 4.11), 4.08 fip (Moore: 3.93)
His second year in the bigs: 9.74 k/9 (Moore: 8.56), 4.79 bb/9 (Moore: 4.55), 3.08 fip (Moore: 3.95)
His third full year in the bigs: 9.34 k/9, 3.57 bb/9, 3.12 fip.

The other player is Kershaw. Not saying Moore is the next Kershaw. But do you think it is a possibility Moore could follow a similar path and really break out this year?

12:59
Eno Sarris: I don’t see it because we’re already seeing Moore’s velocity drop and he’s already been on the DL once.

From your experience in clubhouses, what would you think the reaction would be to a Michael Sam in MLB?

1:08
Eno Sarris: There are all sorts of people in the clubhouse. Not sure they’d be extremely popular, can’t speak for all as a monolith, but it’s fairly conservative in there. But could he exist in the clubhouse and go to work and not bother anyone? Yes.

1:08
Comment From Charlie
Who do you target at 2B in an OPS league? Utley with a decent upside backup? Like an Ultey/Profar or Rendon?

Fantasy questions: how does your strategy change when there are two catcher spots versus one? How does it change when you start getting bigger leagues (10 team versus 12, 13, 14, etc.)?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Huge. You actually have to draft catchers if there are two. the 24th-best catcher is pretty putrid.

1:09
Comment From dbet
What are some your favorite guys to take in round 24-25 assuming you have everything covered?(non-catcher)

1:11
Comment From Chicago Mark
re Estrada…..isn’t he too homer prone? Does this reduce his breakout potential?

Why should pitchers aspire to high K’s, low BB’s, and GB’s when it’s been studied that pitchers who routinely beat their FIPs are actually LOW GB/HIGH FB lefties? Trying to understand what’s optimal.

Traded Wil Myers for David Price & Jean Segura. Roto keeper, no compensation for keeping, no time limit. Good move?

1:14
Eno Sarris: I actually like it. I think Myer’s BA will go down, and you didn’t trade really far down from Myers to Segura and you bought low on an ace.

1:15
Comment From Claude
Whats the largest (most teams) league you’ve ever heard of or participated in?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Dunno about heard of. I’m in a 12-team AL-only scoresheet with 40-man rosters right now, that’s deeper than my 20-teamer mixed with 40-man rosters.

1:15
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
chances Profar is being under-projected due to a largely fixable “not swinging enough” problem? The contact skills are elite (5.5% swSTR) and he was a top prospect for a reason….

1:16
Eno Sarris: And he does have power. It’s true. Just a fair amount of risk there. worth it more in keeper leagues.

Thoughts on power vs. control pitchers? Thinking back, guys like Gausman haven’t panned out as well as power pitchers. Reminds me of guys like Slowey and Sowers.

1:22
Eno Sarris: Nothing about Gausman is like Slowey or Sowers! Gausman throws 97 with a killer split change, a good regular change, and an okay slider. Yes, he has good control, but he’s a power pitcher.
