Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 3/16/17
| 2:08 |
: Hey you. I… I:
| 12:01 |
: Why no Haitians in the MLB, compared to the DR pipeline?
| 12:01 |
: Less infrastructure overall, less baseball infrastructure in particular, and maybe French influence pushes youths to soccer.
| 12:02 |
: my team already sucks what do i do now
| 12:02 |
: get really into prospects?
| 12:02 |
: Have you ever done a high stakes NFBC type of league? Ive been playing regular roto with friends or ottoneu for 20 years. Whould I get slaughtered like a lamb playing in a 1000$+ league like that?
| 12:02 |
: I did okay a few years back, got my money back at least. It’s hard, and you might lose your cash the first time as you get to know the intricacies of the system, but it’s not impossible.
| 12:03 |
: Who do you think ends up with the 2b job in KC?
| 12:03 |
: I think Colon makes the team because he’s out of options, but I bet Whit Merrifield, baseball’s boat shoe of a name, gets the job at first.
| 12:04 |
: Just traded DeGrom for Pollock, and then Glasnow for Moncada in a keep forever league. Thoughts?
| 12:04 |
: Love love the second trade.
| 12:05 |
: For all the talk about Mitch Haniger, what actually constitutes a successful season for him?
| 12:05 |
: Good defense, not a platoon bat, .260/.330/.430 would be a win for Seattle.
| 12:06 |
: Suppose the Yankees get under the luxury tax threshold, setting them up to capitalize on an elite free agent crop. Adding in an elite farm system, are they poised to join the Dodgers and Cubs as well-funded super teams that should compete for best club in the league for the foreseeable future?
| 12:06 |
: Yes, they put together a nice young core quickly.
| 12:06 |
: Hey Eno, think Wacha ever gets into the Top 25 SP club? Or is destined for long-man work?
| 12:07 |
: No way. He’s a starter. I think he returns to top 40 with Casey Casem.
| 12:07 |
: Zimmerman tweeted a link that showed Giolitto’s ST velocity is down 4 MPH from 2 years ago. How are you feeling about his long-term outlook?
| 12:07 |
: Never been a fan.
| 12:07 |
: Gimme a smooch, Eno. Eno…gimme a smooch
| 12:07 |
: I yearn for boldness
| 12:07 |
: Take me to flavour town, Eno
| 12:07 |
: full of sound and fury and signifying nothing!
| 12:08 |
: Am I crazy for thinking that Brandin Nimmo can make the ‘JD Martinez adjustment.” I know that’s much easier said than done but I can’t help but watch him bat (approach plays to this as well) and think that if he changed that line-drive swing he could be much better offensively
| 12:08 |
: And I have just the tools for him! Big piece on weighted bats coming today.
| 12:08 |
: Will Pineda finally put together a complete season this year with 10+ k/9 and sub-3.5 ERA? or is that fastball still too hittable?
| 12:09 |
: The fastball in a vacuum is not necessarily hittable. He’s just a two-pitch guy with iffy command that gets into bad counts, which means hitters can really hone in on the pitch they want. If he stays out of bad counts, he can have more success.
| 12:09 |
: Was thinking about spin rate while playing catch with my son. Is there any evidence to show that spin is a function of where you place the ball in your hand (e.g. further out on the fingertips leads to more spin)?
| 12:10 |
: Very little evidence that something you can change about your hand can change the spin. That said, there is evidence that grip strength matters, so perhaps you could work on that aspect of your body.
| 12:10 |
: I asked you a week or two ago about food shopping for one while maintaining a plus plus sandwich-making tool. But I forgot to ask about bread. I’m a fan of that soft whole wheat bread–lots of fiber, no icky nuts–and tortillas are great too, but what about baguettes and the like where it’s harder to get through the whole loaf alone before going stale? Have the rest with pasta? Make croutons?
| 12:11 |
: I recommend rolls, aka mini baguettes.
| 12:11 |
: Eno, I love your chats. I always get my questions published during your ludes because I just say weird stuff
| 12:11 |
: you should tell yourself everyday “I am the greatest!” cuz even a broken clock is wrong twice a day
| 12:11 |
: A cow moos softly in the outfield grass – a monolith of hamburger
| 12:11 |
: So… it’s going to be that kind of day huh.
| 12:11 |
: who you got winning NCAA tourney (besides the NCAA exploiting these young adults)? Who’s your Cinderella, dressed in yella?
| 12:11 |
: I DON’T HAVE A BRACKET AND IT FEELS SO GLORIOUS
| 12:12 |
: (that said I like basketball and someday, when I’m not nipples deep in two beats, I’ll return to March Madness)
| 12:12 |
: Going to USA vs the Doctors tonight at Petco. Jealous?
| 12:12 |
: Yes!
| 12:12 |
: February rankings for 3B by the rotographs staff have Alex Bregman at 13th. I see that as a “show me” ranking, which makes sense at this point. Do you think Bregman is capable of putting up numbers similar to Kyle Seager in 2015 with a .266/.328/.451 line?
| 12:12 |
: I think you can push Bregman higher, but it’s hard to push him past Seager without, as you say, seeing it.
| 12:12 |
: I’m not hearing too much hype on Mazara for his sophomore season. I think this is a good thing. Do you?
| 12:13 |
: I don’t. And I love him. I see some Juan Gone in him. Not leading the league in power, but .300/25-30 with oodles of RBI at his peak.
| 12:13 |
: Favorite beers to drink on St. Patty’s Day?
| 12:13 |
: I guess it’ll be Pony Pils from Half Acre this year! Maybe Daisy Cutter too.
| 12:14 |
: What kind of season to you see Dansby Swanson putting together as a rookie?
| 12:15 |
: .275/.350/.425, 15/15 with plus but not elite D and four wins is not out of the question.
| 12:15 |
: What does my peak year look like?
| 12:16 |
: This is fun! I love dreaming on guys. .300+/.400/.500 with 25 homers and 10 steals and plus outfield defense.
| 12:17 |
: It seems that the Marlins want to get Bour more ABs this year. Can he fix his platoon issues and get 550 abs? If so, can he hit 30 HRs?
| 12:18 |
: wow a 56 wRC+ in 110 plate appearances is not great, bob. That said, that’s not a meaningful sample. I think the volume would get him to 25 anyway.
| 12:18 |
: Is curling the most polite sport?
| 12:18 |
: Is there a lot of trash talking in Equestrian sports? “Your horse sucks balls”
| 12:19 |
: A small plastic figurine of Alex Rodriguez sits on my desk, unblinking. A half-ironic smile flits across his lips, giving me an insight into the man he really was. I pick Alex up between my thumb and forefinger and scrutinize him carefully. The tiny bat he holds in his hands still threatens, even now. More power than I have in my whole body, in this little statue. A soft groan leaks out of my throat. “Why, Alex, why…”
| 12:19 |
: Why did you kiss the mirror Alex, why
| 12:19 |
: Heading to the West Coast this summer and making a stop at Russian River. What are their best non-Pliny offerings you recommend?
| 12:19 |
: The sours. Supplication and Consecration are my favorites.
| 12:20 |
: Think Scherzer’s finger lingers longer than expected? Says he will miss a start but I’m worried a finger on the pitching hand will be worse than expected recovery/performance wise
| 12:20 |
: DO YOU HAVE TO DO YOU HAVE TO DO YOU HAVE TO LET IT…
| 12:21 |
: sorry. Cranberries on the mind. He says he didn’t feel it and pitched through it, so I’m not too worried yet.
| 12:21 |
: Have the boobs morphed into the arms in this picture?
| 12:21 |
: I think that’s my son’s finest moment so far as an artist.
| 12:21 |
: I have my first dynasty start up draft Saturday and I don’t see myself drafting a single prospect before my starting lineups are filled. Wrong thought process?
| 12:22 |
: Nope. Unless it’s a 20 teamer, you’ll still get some decent prospects. Maybe it’s okay to have utility and your last OF open, your last two pitchers. If it means a landing top-25 bat, which is a big deal.
| 12:23 |
: I’m just here for the erotic baseball fanfiction
| 12:23 |
: A dinosaur, a cigarette.
| 12:23 |
: The phrase “try anything once, and twice if I like it” is how I learned to never put my penis in my belly button
| 12:23 |
: Either we have one very prolific interluder today, or we’re on fire.
| 12:23 |
: Thoughts on Greg Bird? Looks amazing this spring. Do I need to draft Carter or Holliday as insurance for the days he doesn’t play?
| 12:24 |
: I think he’s got the job, and as the best defensive first basemen in the crew of good bats, I’m betting that the plate appearance projections are low.
| 12:25 |
: Who is one “sleeper” that appears on every list (ie, Paxton, Broxton, etc) that you think is actually being overhyped?
| 12:25 |
: When I dove into Villar’s changes, I wasn’t sure if his work against righties would hold this year. A lot of babip.
| 12:25 |
: Hey Eno! What do you think of Matt Harvey, wil his velo come back? What’s his ceiling with fastball at 92? Should I keep Cruz instead of him? Thanks, much appreciated!
| 12:26 |
: I’d keep Cruz. This isn’t good news, and I saw some evidence last year that Harvey might hurt more from a velo loss than other pitchers.
| 12:26 |
: Horrifying thought: What happens if our Eno goes bald? Thanks Eno, thanks a lot for another thing to worry about.
| 12:26 |
: I prefer not to wonder what’s going on with my widow’s peaks. THEY’RE FINE OKAY
| 12:27 |
: Eno. Talk about Alex Wood. I expect Hill to miss his share of starts and McCarthy is no guarantee. Can wood get some innings and put some things together?
| 12:28 |
: Kaz throwing 86 too. Yeah he could get to 100 decent innings.
| 12:28 |
: Which team has the most pitchers qualify for rate stat titles (162IP +)? Fewest?
| 12:28 |
: Dodgers keep using the most pitchers, which probably means they have the fewest that get 162 IP+.
| 12:28 |
: Every year, Taijuan Walker sucks me in with his spring stats and I fall in love all over again. Talk me down (or validate my love).
| 12:29 |
: I was out on him, finally, until they pulled 15 (!) bone spurs from his foot. Maybe he can land properly now! (I’m still mostly out)
| 12:29 |
: Who are you top 3 late round SP sleepers?
| 12:30 |
: Assuming 15-team… Cotton, Bundy, D Norris, Lynn, Wacha, Gsellman, Happ, Finnegan, Davies.
| 12:30 |
: Manaea break through this year? Second half was encouraging. What does he need to do to take another step?
| 12:30 |
: Harder breaking ball.
| 12:30 |
: Cody Bellinger O/U 400 PA this season?
| 12:30 |
: Under.
| 12:31 |
: If Javier Baez’s ability to tag without looking is the Paris Hilton sex tape of defensive abilities, whose 20-grade skill ranks out as the Hulk Hogan sex tape of defensive abilities?
| 12:32 |
: It’s mean but I think of Aubrey Huff in the outfield, Daniel Murphy in the outfield, that route Odubel Herrera took on the Hamels perfect game catch…
| 12:32 |
: Eno, what can Julio Urias do to improve? he has plus stuff at a young age sure, but hasn’t gotten results? Seems hittable?
| 12:33 |
: I was surprised at how mediocre the results on his breaking pitches were. Some focus there might work.
| 12:33 |
: In a draft, do you typically favor sexy upside or boring floor? IE, you’re staring at Greg Bird and Kendrys Morales, which direction do you typically pivot? Or try to find a nice balance and make calculated risks?
| 12:34 |
: Sexy upside gets me so often. But necessity will hit me up in the other direction. Like on LABR, my infield is Bird/Odor/Lindor/Sano/Anderson but necessity forced me to an OF of Beltran/Reddick/Pillar/Rosario/Chisenhall and CI/UT of Smoak and Pedro.
| 12:34 |
: Both Taijuan Walker and Kyle Hendricks were throwing high fastballs the past Arizona/Cubs ST game, seemingly in counts they normally wouldn’t have last year. Do you think this adjustment is just a ST-let’s-try-this-out kind of thing or are we going to see a lot more guys aiming for the high strikeout? Is there anyone who normally hits those high fastballs for power?
| 12:35 |
: High fastball hitters include Brian Dozier, Carlos Correa, Jose Bautista!
| 12:35 |
:
| 12:35 |
: I have a live draft this Saturday at noon but we are meeting at 10:30 to start drinking. I’m thinking I should stick with something like Founder’s All Day IPA, what would you roll with so you can make semi-reasonable picks in the mid to late rounds?
| 12:35 |
: Yup, or Easy Jack.
| 12:35 |
: Which teacher’s pet do you like better this year and going forward: James Paxton or Lance McCullers?
| 12:36 |
: Both full up with injury concerns, so I’ll take the stuff I like better: Lance Jr.
| 12:36 |
: I am a top 5 player
| 12:36 |
: I know it, and you know it but
| 12:36 |
: The silver lining to Sonny Gray’s injury is Andrew Triggs is now a lock for the rotation. That should be fun.
| 12:36 |
: Can’t wait to track that changeup.
| 12:36 |
: How are you feeling about Chris Archer heading into this season? He was a bit of a rollercoaster last year – I think I recall a few games where he K’d 9 or 10 guys while coughing up a 4-5 ER loss. Is he a true ace or are we all waiting to get Keuchel’d?
| 12:37 |
: I like him this year. Second half showed an adjustment, he was better.
| 12:37 |
: What do you predict for Gary Sanchez in 2017?
| 12:37 |
: .275/.340/.500 with 30 homers.
| 12:38 |
: It’s a little crazy, but it’s not a lot crazy if you start with projections.
| 12:38 |
: Name one reason in a language other than English why Mike Trout is a first round value.
| 12:38 |
: Er tut alles.
| 12:38 |
: Why are you ignoring us?
| 12:38 |
: ….
| 12:38 |
: Who do you like better for this year and long term. Rodon, Fulmer, or Nola? Thinking of making an offer of Smyly+ for one of them.
| 12:39 |
: Fulmer highest floor and probably second highest ceiling (Rodon’s ceiling is tantalizing).
| 12:39 |
: Have you actually read “The Sound and the Fury”? It might be the best written book ever, I am super glad I read it, and I HATED reading it.
| 12:39 |
: Didn’t he have sentences that went on for pages and chapters that were paragraphs? I mean, yeah, I think I remember about the same.
| 12:40 |
: FYP draft for dynasty, who’s your favorite: Moniak, Keller, Groome, Acuna, Collins, or Mejia?
| 12:40 |
: Not a catcher or a pitcher, so despite chance of recency bias, Acuna.
| 12:40 |
: Moncada has an elite arm and speed. He doesn’t seem to be any good on the IF. Why don’t the Sox just write this year off and groom him as a CF, in AAA? Giolito does look bad, agreed.
| 12:41 |
: I’m thinking Moncada might be a CF yeah.
| 12:41 |
: Are you on record about Eric Thames?
| 12:41 |
: I’ll buy below his projections value and above his ADP. Cautious like I guess.
| 12:42 |
: Who closes for cubbies when Wade Davis gets hurt again? This Rondon stinks
| 12:42 |
: STROP! Maybe Carl Edwards, but Strop’s slider deserves some love too.
| 12:42 |
: If the Philippines had a team in the WBC my owner would be their best player.
| 12:42 |
: If Baez had missed that tag, Brian HISTORY OF THE GAME McCann would have appeared behind him in a Grim Reaper costume.
| 12:42 |
: A cock, a beaver, and a sperm whale walk into a bar and order a beer. Who gets laughed at first?
| 12:42 |
: good lord.
| 12:43 |
: Pretty desperate for an answer. Keepers lock tonight. Final Keeper Bregman or Tanaka 7×7 w/ Standard+ SLG/OBP and QS/BAA… already keeping 4 hitters including Donaldson so Bregman would be util. Tanaka would be SP2 behind Cueto
| 12:43 |
: I keep Bregman I don’t care. I don’t keep a lot of pitchers in keep five situations.
| 12:44 |
: I was reviewing my teams from previous years and i’m really bad at keeping my WHIP down. Please help.
| 12:44 |
: Add a reliever spot?
| 12:44 |
: Hypothetical – if Trout had Kiermaier’s defense could he make a case for a top 5 of all time, or something outlandish like that?
| 12:44 |
: Yes. He’s already making that kind of case.
| 12:45 |
: Do you buy sano’s projections? They are a little loftier than I expected
| 12:45 |
: He has elite power. My question is how many plate appearances he’ll have and I’m not sure he’s injury prone. He might be.
| 12:45 |
: Have you heard anything about Jameson Taillon’s new changeup grip? Do you know if it’s made for an improvement?
| 12:46 |
: I have his start to watch, got it recorded. it’s a two-seam grip, so it should have more movement. Might be the ticket. Command was off in first inning yesterday.
| 12:46 |
: So this yr, I am trying to do something a tad different with my pitching. I want to model my rotation based on something I came across from Ron Shandler. I want to draft skills (k/9 [8+], BB/9, IP, etc.), all with data going back three seasons (aiming for some stability). I am sure this has been done before. So, in practical terms, I’ll be trying to pair up a Lester (IP & BB/9) with a Robby Ray (K/9), and so forth. Would you advice against doing this? Just draft based on tiers? I’ve modeled my tiers based on yours and Paul’s.
| 12:47 |
: One problem with that approach is injury. If you’re only getting guys with three-year track records, your team will be old and more likely to be injured. AS for the skills thing, yeah, draft guys based on skills more than results, that makes sense. And I do like varying it up so you don’t have all one kind of pitcher on your squad.
| 12:47 |
: Can you order these SPs based on potential for boosting long term value? Blair, AJ Cole, Wisler, Brault, Kuhl, Jake Thompson
| 12:48 |
: Cole Wisler uhhhhhh
| 12:48 |
: I’m a super deep sleeper that no one is talking about, but will help win league titles. T or F.
| 12:48 |
: All about health, really.
| 12:49 |
: Do you think in say… the next 50 years there will be new pitcher archetypes we haven’t seen yet? Do you think it’d be dependent on new batter archetypes appearing?
| 12:50 |
: Robot Umps would create a new archetype, basically a Romo type with two breaking balls. If someone could have a sideways sweeping breaker and a sinker that can nip the corner of the robot zone… and then also add a curveball that can hit the plate?
| 12:50 |
: I miss your sexy face
| 12:50 |
: That answer lacks believability.
| 12:51 |
: How do you quantify love
| 12:51 |
:
| 12:51 |
: my son was born with a male pattern baldness silhouette. I’m confident at some point in adulthood he’ll lose his hair in exactly the pattern shown as an infant. My question is how much am I (a man w luscious lox) allowed to taunt him about this as he gets older?
| 12:51 |
: less at first, then as much as humanly possible near the end
| 12:52 |
: The wife and I made brackets and most correct picks wins. What should we bet?
| 12:52 |
: If you have kids, wager sleep ins. If not, movie choices.
| 12:52 |
: How many Lowe’s could Rob Lowe rob, if Rob Lowe could rob Lowe’s?
| 12:52 |
: He’d need a team, obviously. Mark and Sweet could help.
| 12:53 |
: @William Faulkner – but have you read Captain Underpants? If that’s not the best written book I may be illiterate
| 12:53 |
: Thoughts on corn as a a) sandwich topping, b) pizza topping?
| 12:53 |
: I dig it but people think I’m crazy.
| 12:53 |
: First pick in a 12 team H2H league. Kept Harper, Bryant, Correa and Blackmon. Am I taking Votto or Marte? Thanks for the help!
| 12:53 |
: I’d take Marte. Steals are scarce.
| 12:54 |
: These chats can be so puerile.
| 12:54 |
: Totally. *googles puerile*
| 12:55 |
: Is peak Pedroia a good comp for peak Benintendi? Or are the skills different and the numbers just the same?
| 12:55 |
: I think Ben might have more power at peak. It’s an interesting comp though.
| 12:55 |
: Do you think there is anything to the finance background of many of these front office execs? I.e. Andrew Friedman from wall street to rays, etc.
| 12:56 |
: I mean, yeah it’s a biz school FO situation right now. I’m not sure that’s the very best idea. Someone that knows a ton about how high-level baseball is played on the field might be able to do some really interesting things with development, which seems to be a spot where baseball can improve.
| 12:56 |
: Eno, as a guy who used to take cold showers outdoors, I need your opinion on something: If you were chilling with some friends in a relaxed atmosphere, would you prefer to have three 5% alcohol beers or two 7.5s?
| 12:57 |
: three 5%. More time.
| 12:57 |
: I know you mentioned in a recent podcast (and this has always been your position) that you are not paying the tag price on the expensive closers. That being said, who do you continue to end up with? I’ve been following suit and end up with Kelvin Herrera, Giles, and sometimes being a little more aggressive with Osuna and Diaz. Are you in the same neighborhood of guys?
| 12:59 |
: Zimmerman’s research, that the elite guys hold their jobs more, makes me think I do want one elite guy, and then guys that are last in their tiers. That means Diaz and then one more good mid-tier guy, and then maybe two fringe guys with great ratios. An Eno Pen this year would be something like Diaz, Ramos, Iglesias and Neris.
| 12:59 |
: Is the multi-inning relief ace hype dying down since the WS? Are teams using anyone in this manner in ST?
| 1:00 |
: I think Iglesias, Devenski, Montgomery, Andriese and Rosenthal are the names I’m tracking.
| 1:00 |
: Dude, check out “Chasing the Scream” book. It’s about the war on drugs. Sad. Fascinating. Could change the world if people would just believe in what the author is selling. (This has been your weekly book recommendation.)
| 1:00 |
: Why did they choose to name it Toilet Paper when it could have just as easily been called Bowel Towels?
| 1:00 |
: Eno – I have a roommate that is one of your biggest fans, but we have been having this argument for months about Innings Pitched projections. He is really stuck in the belief that you cannot accurately project how many innings a pitcher will pitch each year. I obviously argue you can. What would you say to him? Keep in mind he is an Orioles fan so he may just not be happy with what the projections are saying.
| 1:02 |
: He has a great point. IP projection is actually a major source of error in pitcher projections. Think of projecting a pitcher to be mediocre on a bad team. If he’s mediocre, he probably won’t get as many innings as a normal projection, based on past performance, would suggest. There’s a lot of either he’ll get 200 or 60 innings type decisions projections can’t necessarily make.
| 1:02 |
: who will have the better season: Michael Brantley or David Peralta?
| 1:02 |
: David Peralta. I’m still nervous about Brantley’s shoulder.
| 1:02 |
: Why do we like IPA’s so much? I mean, I really like IPA’s, but how did that happen?
| 1:03 |
: People love sweet plus bitter, you see it in cocktails too. And then as your palate gets hooked to the hops, it’s not even that bitter anymore.
| 1:03 |
: Do the Tigers have the cajones to go with Boyd over the existing contracts of Sanchez and Pelfrey?
| 1:04 |
: I think it’s happening as we speak. or write.
| 1:04 |
: What’s your prediction for Yuli Gurriel?
| 1:05 |
: .280/18?
| 1:06 |
: Which non-closer do you like to take over closer duties first?
| 1:06 |
: Neris? Would pick someone in Arizona, but I don’t know which guy to pick.
| 1:07 |
: Thoughts on Ottavino this year? Realize he “lost” the closing gig, but I’m in a saves/holds league. Still like that skill set?
| 1:07 |
: Yeah I’d hold him.
| 1:07 |
: Why am I not jumping off the cliff at Rick’s Café, right now?
| 1:07 |
: I often ask myself that question.
| 1:08 |
: Who are the candidates for lowest 2017 WAR?
| 1:09 |
: Yasmany Tomas, Gerardo Parra…
| 1:09 |
: What is my purpose?
| 1:09 |
: Uncle? Called strikes on non-swings, ground balls, whiffs if you’re fast.
| 1:11 |
: Peavy models both in this piece. Just a regular changeup grip, you put the seams in different places and the theory is that the spin looks more like the two- or four-seam fastball. Two-seam changeups usually get more fade, like a two-seam fastball. Depends on how you want to pair the pitch, I guess. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jake-peavy-on-keeping-them-guessing/
| 1:11 |
: can you explain (or link to) an explaner on 2 v 4 seam changeup grips? is a 2 seam what used to be called a forkball?
| 1:11 |
: ooops scroll up
| 1:11 |
: First pick in a 12 team H2H league. Kept Harper, Bryant, Correa and Blackmon. Am I taking Votto or Marte? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

: I answered this question when I first saw it and then was rewarded with 20 more posts of it!

: is there anything more “90s european club” than some haddaway?

: 16-team, 4 years of Taillon for 2 years of Xander, who says no? Thanks for doing these chats!
| 1:12 |
: Still take the hitter here.
| 1:12 |
: How can Sanchez hit 30hr this year when he has no history in the minors of having that much power. Don’t you think pitchers will figure him out this season?
| 1:14 |
: He played in some really pitcher-friendly parks and leagues. The projections know this and have him projected for 27. Exit velo and launch angle loved Sanchez, so I’m pushing it a bit. AS for adjustments, sure, he’ll have to make a few. But he hit for power high, tight, and low in the zone… http://www.fangraphs.com/zonegrid.aspx?playerid=11442&position=C/DH&ss=2016-01-01&se=2016-12-01&type=6&hand=all&count=all&blur=1&grid=10&view=bat&pitch=&season=2016

: I had some crazy tacos that was a chopped up asada, al pastor, pork chop, cecina (salted beef), and ham topped with cheese. I thought it was an Eno Taco.
| 1:14 |
: Think the Yankees have a good shot at the WC if the rotation holds up?
| 1:14 |
: Yup
| 1:15 |
: Adam Eaton is the “Pedroia of the outfield” comp
| 1:16 |
: Yeah I think Ben has more power.
| 1:16 |
: Eat while ya poop. Out with the old in with the new.

| 1:16 |
: so mad
| 1:16 |
: Best career from this point on: Jake Lamb, Miguel Sano, Maikel Franco
| 1:17 |
: Oooooooh I love it. Sano’s power tool has to be the best tool in the bin, but Franco’s hit tool is second and that’s a really nice thing to bet on. I think Lamb comes in second too often, though his combination of patience and contact might be the best. I’m sorta interested in taking Franco here, though. hit tools are awesome.
| 1:18 |
: I get that Matt Holiday is 37 and that he has been injured, but he will be batting cleanup and DHing so why are most projections so low on PA’s?
| 1:18 |
: Chris Carter.
| 1:18 |
: Bold prediction: Every team will be using some variation of Driveline/Weighted balls in 10 years once they see the results. Thoughts?
| 1:18 |
: yeah the results are too good to be ignored. Same thing with my piece today or tomorrow.
| 1:19 |
: do you have any experience with dude wipes?
| 1:19 |
: I mean we call them toddler wipes in the house
| 1:19 |
: Can’t say I haven’t snuck a use myself tho
| 1:20 |
: Once when low carbing I made a meatza – a pizza with the crust replaced with ground meat. It was so gloriously greasy. One of those things you try once, then twice if you like it, like putting your penis in your belly button.
| 1:20 |
: IPA’s taste like grass clippings and farts but I still love them. It’s very strange
| 1:20 |
: Knebel or Carl Edwards as a quality ratios and saves spec?
| 1:20 |
: Knebel as good and closer to saves.
| 1:21 |
: Give me your dream composite 4 pitch repertoire of all pitches in baseball right now (can’t just say Kershaw + Hamels change)
| 1:23 |
: Ooh check this out. Danny Duffy’s four-seam (fourth in rise, tremendous velo), Marcus Stroman’s sinker (most sink among qualified starters, good velo), Jharel Cotton’s changeup (second-best by movement and velo), Corey Kluber’s breaking ball (intense and sideways) and Rich Hill’s curve (modifiable, can be big).
| 1:24 |
: RE: Thames…when you say below his projection, which one? They’re all over the place!
| 1:25 |
: Zips seems doable .247/.321/.493 with 26 homers and 10 steals, and I think he’s being drafted lower than that.
| 1:25 |
: When you’re not drinking beer, what is your libation of choice?
| 1:25 |
: Water.
| 1:25 |
: I’m stashing Otani on my dynasty roster on the off chance he posts this year and pulls the sneaky extension after one start. Worth holding if he announces he’s staying overseas until age 25 or whatever the new rule is?
| 1:25 |
: Pretty strong rumor he’ll be posted next offseason.
| 1:26 |
: Let’s say a guy gets into a lot of two-strike counts and generates a lot of swining strikes, but for some reason pr another has an unimpressive strikeout rate. Would you expect the strikeouts to naturally rise up via regression, or is “putting hitters away” a skill that this guy probably lacks?
| 1:26 |
: I would guess that guy throws a great changeup. Changeup whiff rates have the weakest relationship with strikeout rates, and I think weak contact is the answer why.
| 1:27 |
: Thanks for the chat, Eno. In a keep forever, no salary league, who would you keep: Kyle Hendricks or Danny Duffy?
| 1:27 |
: Duffy, I’ll go with stuff.
| 1:27 |
: Eddie Rosario has 828 at bats over two years with 23 HR and .268 average. I understand the horrible plate discipline. But he’s starting for Minnesota. Why isn’t he a $15 player?
| 1:28 |
: Also gives back value in other ways, has been popped for PEDs, doesn’t seem to have the trust of his team, funky swing… But yeah, he’s interesting this year.
| 1:28 |
: a converted hybrid pitcher/catcher (Bethancourt) is the most efficient use of a roster spot, True or False? and what would be the second most efficient type of position player to convert to sometimes pitching?
| 1:28 |
: Third or fourth middle infielder!
| 1:28 |
: Hi Eno, Just read that Colorado is likely to use Holland as closer instead of Ottavino. Do you have any info?
| 1:28 |
: Yeah they’ve been saying that. I’m not sure that will hold all year, due to trade or injury or play.
| 1:30 |
: Khris Davis = Chris Davis light with fewer walks that you can get a few rounds later?
| 1:30 |
: Yup.
| 1:31 |
: I believe the real March Madness is listening to announcers trying to talk about AA players once their 2 bulletpoint note cards are used up
| 1:31 |
: I like it when they just wander into nothingness and start talking about fans and parks and the time they had a bologna sandwich with Tommy LaSorda.

: Headed to Salt Lake this weekend for some skiing. Other than Uinta, what breweries should I check out?
| 1:33 |
: Modern Family and Epic
| 1:34 |
: If a pitcher’s fastball and changeup speeds are converging, as is the case with Gio Gonzalez, what can he do to improve?
| 1:34 |
: Get more movement on the change, I guess. IT’s not a good sign.
| 1:34 |
: There’s been a lot about the Rays throwing high fastballs in the past week or so. Should more guys be moving away from the 2-seam to counter the uppercut swing, or is more dependent on a pitcher’s innate spin?
| 1:35 |
: Yeah if you don’t have high spin, you need to be a sinker guy. Doesn’t mean you can’t develop a cutter that you can throw high and tight.
| 1:35 |
: How many leagues are you in? And of those, how many leagues do you REALLY care about? Favorite format?
| 1:35 |
: Cut down to 9 and I care about all of them. Ottoneu might be my favorite. Either that or the straight 12-team redraft that’s super classic.
| 1:35 |
: You hear about spin with fastballs, curveballs, and change-ups generally. Is there a relationship between spin and slider/cutter effectiveness?
| 1:36 |
: Spin rate collection on those pitches is the worst. The hardware drops readings and also makes false readings. And there are so many different sliders/cutters that it’s hard to know how to classify the bunch.
| 1:36 |
: is there a forum on here for leagues looking for fantasy players?
| 1:37 |
: Look on RotoGraphs. We have a matchmaker service link in Draft Tools now!
| 1:37 |
: Epic has an amazing tasting room in SLC. Have to buy food to drink, but a 5 pound meat plate is like 1o bucks.
| 1:37 |
: Do you have favorite beer in Charlotte?
| 1:37 |
: NoDa?
| 1:37 |
: finally got my hands on psuedo sue. at first i felt over rated. after a few i realized it’s just a perfectly balance pale ale. not too much not too little.
| 1:37 |
: It’s amazing.
| 1:39 |
: Eno, are you happy?
| 1:40 |
: As I’ve ever been. The kids are amazing, my wife is too, live where I want to live, do what I want to do for work. Anything I’m working on is around the edges, and I have y’all to thank for that.
| 1:41 |
: Seems like a good spot to finish up. I’ve got to check in with too many people to keep chatting right now! thanks guys!
| 1:41 |
: wouldn’t god already know you were happy?
| 1:41 |
: hah that’s right
| 1:41 |
: A Venn diagram of cutters and sliders would have pretty significant overlap, and different people would call it different things.
| 1:41 |
: yeah, there are slutters and cutters and baby sliders and
| 1:41 |
: okay okay gotta go
| 1:41 |
: later!
