Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying watching Abreu hit homers off Cy Young winners, but you think he’s going to boost his BB% during the course of this season? Also, can the White Sox build around Sale and Abreu to be competitive for the next 3-4 years?

Eno Sarris: They sort of have a short window, provided by those two. I don’t think Abreu will be a huge walk rate guy, but we’ll see. They have enough that they could make the rebuild quick, and the Santiago trade was amazing.

I know Machado made a HUGE mistake, but I feel everyone hates him now. I know he threw the bat and it is dangerous and all, but be didn’t charge the mound, bat in hand trying to beat the pitcher to a pulp with it, and I feel that is how everybody is reacting to it as if he did just that. Honestly, he just flailed the bat over there. Still a very poor call on his part, but it is not life threatening like everybody is making it out to be. I made poor judgement calls when I was 21 too. People need to lighten up although I do agree it is a serious situation, just not as serious as everyone is making it out to be. Thoughts?

Eno Sarris: I was more upset by smirking at the catcher after hitting him. But he’s a young dude and he can learn. He’s also hitting the first bad stretch of his career, in a way, so let’s see what happens now.

eno, what do you do about a competitive league where no one wants to make trades that aren’t obviously lopsided in their favor? trades NEVER happen, but there are plenty of offers being made.

Eno Sarris: Trades are super hard in all leagues. I try to gauge the league and my team right. Sometimes I overpay just to get what I need. Screw what they think. Just be careful, or the offers will get worse.

Eno Sarris: Soria’s golden. Number one on your list. K-Rod second. Rodney and Nathan have problems, but at least Rodney’s throwing gas.

Eno Sarris: Power takes the longest to know. I thought he looked okay all along. And what I said about him not being Bay — that he has more athleticism and that’ll help him to a softer landing — seems more true now. Better LF D than Bay, patience still there. Always will have a bad BA though.

I own Kazmir, am 6-14 (12 team mixed h2h, we do doubleheaders) and have an outside chance to make the playoffs (just 2 games back). Someone offered me Gausman for Kazmir (we have 5 keeper maxs). I rejected it and am currently trying to get him to throw in Stroman as well. What do you think of this situation? Is selling the inury-risky Kazmir a good move for those just Gausman, or should I try hard to get stro as well?

Eno Sarris: If you get both, you have two 50/50 shots at a better young pitcher than Kazmir, and then I’d do it.

For a long time, even back when I played, I wondered how it was that so many pitchers could throw broadly the same pitch at varying levels of success. Since you’ve talked to pitchers often about grips, have you ever thought about what it is that differentiates one pitcher’s curveball from another’s? Is it the feel they have for the pitch that makes one person throw it better than another?

Eno Sarris: Very interesting. Mechanics, deception, unique grips, and maybe command (repeatability of mechanics) seem like things that could differentiate.

if it can only be one reason, why was everyone wrong about Tanaka? (I know not everyone was wrong but I want to be provocative, but I’m unwilling to actually stand by that posture).

Eno Sarris: The slider isn’t always there, and when you’re translating stats from Japan, you’re stuck with a small sample size and it’s hard to know if Japanese pitchers are getting better or just the last few were better than translated stats said they would be.
