The only difference between 2014 me and career me is my sub-5% HR/FB rate. Will I continue to be good, or will I go back to career me?

12:00
Eno Sarris: Career you.

12:01
Comment From AL Pitching Coach
DL-stint aside, Is it time to cut bait on Tyler Skaggs?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Only in ten teamers. Ah! Chris Russo is yelling at me.

12:01
Eno Sarris: Skaggs’ reduced strikeout rate and meh change have me thinking he was a good deeper league pickup but doubting his overall upside. Risk of bad command coming back too.

12:01
Comment From Tony G.
Hi Eno! Hope you’re having a stellar week. I was curious to hear your thoughts on Eugenio Suarez, and the likelihood he can be a productive fantasy player going forward. Thanks!

12:02
Eno Sarris: At least he makes a lot of contact, more than Danny Santana when I last looked.

12:02
Comment From Alex Meyer & Co.
Hi Eno…are there any high upside pitchers that should get the call up this month that you think could be a top 50 pitcher the rest of the way? Thanks!

12:02
Eno Sarris: Yeah, Meyer and Heaney. Marlins are closer than they/we expected.

12:02
Comment From Stanatee the Manatee
IMPORTANT: My grocery store has all craft been on sale this weekend. What Boulevard brew should I look for? I’m not a fan of overly bitter beers.

12:02
Eno Sarris: Saison Brett, Rye on Rye.

12:03
Comment From Stan
Looking for a DL stash. Best per game value (looking for quality not quantity) from the time they come off DL:
Hart (late June),
Gyorko (early July),
Gee (end of June),
Paxton (mid July),
Nate Jones (mid July),
Crain (early July),
Henderson (end of June)

12:03
Eno Sarris: Hart or Gyorko have the best upside. Might depend on where your lineup has space if they get good.

Comment From Maxamuz

12:03
Comment From Everth Cabrera
I’m below the Mendoza line over the last 30 days and am under .230 for the season with 4% walks, what gives?!

12:03
Eno Sarris: Returned to his pre-Florida contact rate is mostly it.

12:03
Comment From Benny
Is my R. Zimmerman for his Cargo a no brainer?

12:03
Eno Sarris: YES

12:03
Comment From Ronald Belisario
I know I started off real shaky, but I’ve converted three straight save opportunities, knocking em down 1-2-3 in the first two chances, and allowing a run last time out. Have I solidified my standing as White Sox closer yet?

12:04
Eno Sarris: I thought you had it in the bag from the beginning. That team doesn’t need to make their young guys expensive.

12:04
Eno Sarris: (And Pence said Belisario’s sinker was the nastiest pitch he’d seen)

12:04
Comment From dutchbrowncoat
so it sure seems like a replay call might have been botched in the mets/brewers game last night.

12:04
Eno Sarris: Have seen a couple! Still humans!

12:04
Comment From person hscer
Ryan Zimmerman isn’t hopeless in left? Sure, there’s not even a parallel universe where he makes a Cespedes-type throw, but he’s been better than expected, yes?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Made some nice plays last night.

12:04
Comment From Pale Hose
Hey Eno. I put Hosmer on the block in a dynasty sim league. The best offer I got is Wong. Should I pull the trigger or hold?

Comment From Tom Jones
Think Kevin Gausman sticks in the rotation provided he puts in a decent start tonight against the Jays?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Yes. I hate to put this too much on one game, but it’s pretty huge. Toronto is on fire. If he can keep them muzzled, they’ll notice.

12:07
Comment From Ozzie
Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying watching Abreu hit homers off Cy Young winners, but you think he’s going to boost his BB% during the course of this season? Also, can the White Sox build around Sale and Abreu to be competitive for the next 3-4 years?

12:07
Eno Sarris: They sort of have a short window, provided by those two. I don’t think Abreu will be a huge walk rate guy, but we’ll see. They have enough that they could make the rebuild quick, and the Santiago trade was amazing.

12:08
Comment From Matt
What’s up Eno? Gotta eventually get rid of a SP to make room for CarGo when he comes off the DL. That said, would you trade Wacha, Kluber, and Choo for Hamels and Braun?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:08
Comment From Maxamuz

Eno Sarris: Oh yes.

12:08
Comment From Trying to Keep the Faith
ENOOOOOO! Sooooo, Verlander’s velocity (both average and max) has been UP his past two starts, but obviously the results still aren’t there. Do you think this suggests better days are ahead, or is he just reaching back and trying to pump gas at the expense of control/command/overall effectiveness?

12:08
Eno Sarris: I don’t know, but I’ve stopped looking for sell low offers given the new velocity. Time to hold.

12:08
Comment From person hscer
Can your musical tastes beat CCR + Weird Al + VNV Nation?

12:08
Comment From person hscer
(That’s classic rock + parody + “futurepop”)

12:09

12:09
Comment From Justin
Sorry for the multiple posts – Altuve & Doolittle for Marte & Gio. Which side do you want?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Normally I’d take the Marte Gio side, but Altuve is legit and a top-two or three 2B, which is probably the best asset in the deal.

12:09
Comment From Yoenis Cespedes
How many WAR is my throwing arm worth?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Not that many. Look at Jeff Francouer.

12:10
Comment From Zach
I know Machado made a HUGE mistake, but I feel everyone hates him now. I know he threw the bat and it is dangerous and all, but be didn’t charge the mound, bat in hand trying to beat the pitcher to a pulp with it, and I feel that is how everybody is reacting to it as if he did just that. Honestly, he just flailed the bat over there. Still a very poor call on his part, but it is not life threatening like everybody is making it out to be. I made poor judgement calls when I was 21 too. People need to lighten up although I do agree it is a serious situation, just not as serious as everyone is making it out to be. Thoughts?

12:10
Eno Sarris: I was more upset by smirking at the catcher after hitting him. But he’s a young dude and he can learn. He’s also hitting the first bad stretch of his career, in a way, so let’s see what happens now.

12:10
Comment From Ballpark Frank
With Waino hurt is it finally time for Carlos Martinez to start? What would you expect from him as a starter ROS?

12:10
Eno Sarris: I think that boat has sailed. You’ll see someone come up from minors I bet.

12:11
Comment From zurzles
eno, what do you do about a competitive league where no one wants to make trades that aren’t obviously lopsided in their favor? trades NEVER happen, but there are plenty of offers being made.

12:11
Eno Sarris: Trades are super hard in all leagues. I try to gauge the league and my team right. Sometimes I overpay just to get what I need. Screw what they think. Just be careful, or the offers will get worse.

12:11
Comment From Mark Ellis Gold Glove
Is Soria going to close the rest of the year, or is Feliz going to be back and assume the roll? Also: how would you rank these closers for the rest of the year: Soria, Nathan, Rodriguez, Rodney?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Soria’s golden. Number one on your list. K-Rod second. Rodney and Nathan have problems, but at least Rodney’s throwing gas.

12:12
Comment From stonepie
granderson has turned it around tremendously over the last month. the power seems to be back

12:13
Eno Sarris: Power takes the longest to know. I thought he looked okay all along. And what I said about him not being Bay — that he has more athleticism and that’ll help him to a softer landing — seems more true now. Better LF D than Bay, patience still there. Always will have a bad BA though.

12:13
Comment From John Stamos
Should we just drop Wilson Ramos at this point? Current C is Mesoraco, but Ramos is my 7th guy to hit the DL and I can’t even fill out the starting lineup.

12:13
Eno Sarris: I think you can drop him. I hate having two catchers anyway.

12:14
Eno Sarris: No change-up.

12:14
Comment From Ashtray
Weaver is ranked 28th. Archer is ranked 52nd. Discuss

12:14
Eno Sarris: Doubt it was like that for me. But they might be opposite pitchers. Archer has command issues, great stuff, bad change. Weaver has a great arsenal, great command, terrible fastball.

I’m 4th in SB, 10th in RBI, 12th in Runs and second in Bsr WAR over the last calendar year but many experts still rate me below guys like Asdrubal, Everth, and Andrelton. What do I have to do to get a lil’ credit?

Which young 3 do you want? Mets: Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Indians: Kluber, Bauer, Salazar? Cardinals: Wacha, Miller, C-Mart…How close/not close is it?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Next year, Mets for sure. Because Kluber is more “find” than “stud” still I think. And Indians ‘studs’ have problems. Cards three is killer but one might be an RP. Okay, so Cards / Mets is super close. But remember Harvey.

12:19
Comment From Ethan
How do you feel about Segura RoS? OPS is an extra category and his .603 is killing me

12:19

Eno, concerned about Bryant’s strikeouts? How are they likely to translate at the next level? Same for Joey Gallo

Eno, ACBF in Boston, there were some good beers. Left had a ginger infused beer, it was pretty good after. Jack’s Abby was awesome, as you said. Green Flash has a saison aged in red wine barrels, also really good. If i hadn’t had so much beer, I could tell you the names of all of these beers.

12:21
Eno Sarris: nice!

12:21
Comment From The Dude
You think Danny Salazar has got the yips? The Steve Blass disease? The fleas in the brain thing?

12:21
Eno Sarris: No, the slider got worse. Looks like he’ll be one of those change-up guys that has trouble with his breaker. Maybe a cutter will be his savior. Command also an issue though.

Comment From sell sell sell
I own Kazmir, am 6-14 (12 team mixed h2h, we do doubleheaders) and have an outside chance to make the playoffs (just 2 games back). Someone offered me Gausman for Kazmir (we have 5 keeper maxs). I rejected it and am currently trying to get him to throw in Stroman as well. What do you think of this situation? Is selling the inury-risky Kazmir a good move for those just Gausman, or should I try hard to get stro as well?

12:22
Eno Sarris: If you get both, you have two 50/50 shots at a better young pitcher than Kazmir, and then I’d do it.

12:22
Comment From Sleeper & the Best!
Do you have a good comp for Alex Meyer? And does he matter when he arrives….which is soon right?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Dunno, Alex Cobb with more velocity? Curve, Change, no-seam sinker fastball.

12:23
Comment From chris
Much hope for Craig going forward? He rebounded a bit from his awful April but he’s just a singles hitter and doesn’t walk much.

12:23
Eno Sarris: .280/18 type. Too many grounders, but the grounders will be good for BA.

12:23
Comment From Bruce
Chase Whitley better than Phelps?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Yes. Love Whitley. Three above-average pitches, even if his fastball is 91 and he’s a converted closer that may only get 120 IP.

12:24
Comment From Hrkac Circus
The Twins have been pretty clear that Meyer will be on an extremely tight innings limit, is there any reason to believe he’ll be a starter in the majors at all this year?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Getting his feet wet.

Chances Mejia holds onto the closer’s gig?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Love love him. He’s got it.

12:24
Comment From XandersBigBoyBoots
Is Sean Doolittle elite Eno? Fastball velo is the same, but location seems better, getting more swings and misses with it. Slider has been better this year as well. He’s pitching like Chapman light, can he keep it up?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Gotta do that piece we’ve been planning for so long. Love him as a person and a pitcher. More sliders this year is good. Throws a change-up once a month.

Which player’s lack of power is most surprising so far: Holliday, Wright, or Cano?

Time to cut bait with Charlie Blackmon in a shallow league? I’m currently platooning him with Alex Rios and trying to get him in at Coors Field, but Yelich, Khris Davis and Dexter Fowler are available on the wire. Who would you go with?

12:26
Eno Sarris: I like that Blackmon/Rios platoon.

12:26
Comment From chris
Is it worth cutting Brian McCann for either Norris or Jaso in an OBP league?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Man, I know the shift is killing McCann but it can’t be that time yet. Jaso if you do, because he’s the guy that starts more.

12:27
Comment From Nick
For a long time, even back when I played, I wondered how it was that so many pitchers could throw broadly the same pitch at varying levels of success. Since you’ve talked to pitchers often about grips, have you ever thought about what it is that differentiates one pitcher’s curveball from another’s? Is it the feel they have for the pitch that makes one person throw it better than another?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Very interesting. Mechanics, deception, unique grips, and maybe command (repeatability of mechanics) seem like things that could differentiate.

12:28
Comment From Guest

Eno, Rubby has the stuff, makes people look foolish, can he stick in the rotation, or is he a future elite closer?

Are you looking at any non-prospect propects like Jake Lamb, or Souza to be able to come up and mash?

Comment From The Oriole Bird
Going to take my 1-year-old to Aberdeen this weekend to see his first baseball game. Someday when he’s older, I hope we can point to all of Dylan Bundy’s Cy Young Awards and say, “Yeah, I saw his first rehab start after his first of many Tommy John surgeries!”

12:31
Comment From Miami Pete
ROS outlook on Heaney? Will there be innings limit?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Threw 120 last year, so he could throw 150-160 this year. Strikeout rate going up, added to his polish, and home park, makes me like him more now. Has 80 or so innings left.

12:32
Comment From Nelson
Whats Eno Sarris’ opinion on cask beer?

Ventura’s start yesterday was a thing of beauty. Not a lot of Ks but lots of GBs and a very efficient pitchcount.

My main man Eno, would you drop J.J. Hardy or Chris Owings for Rougned Odor?

12:38
Comment From JoJo
How do you respond to a guy that consistently sends lopsided trade offers without severing ties? Rejection after rejection and yet the offers seem to worsen.

12:38
Eno Sarris: Send an offer back that you’ve thought about and find actually fair for both sides. Show him how you value players.

12:38
Comment From Matt
Following up that recent question about Holliday, Wright, and Cano, do you think they each have a good chance to still reach 20 on the year?

Dave said yesterday that Adams, Shelby, Martinez, and Piscotty was not enough for Price, what do you think?

12:40
Eno Sarris: I respectfully disagree. That’s a great package that hits on their needs pretty well.

12:40
Eno Sarris: Maybe a minor league starter instead of CMart, if he’s just an RP.

12:40
Comment From Des
What can I expect Collin McHugh to do ROS. The recent short outings a cause for concern?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Don’t know what his innings situation is. But I do his like mix enough. The change isn’t great, but a curve and a slider and a show-me/grounder change is probably enough.

if it can only be one reason, why was everyone wrong about Tanaka? (I know not everyone was wrong but I want to be provocative, but I’m unwilling to actually stand by that posture).

Eno Sarris: The slider isn’t always there, and when you’re translating stats from Japan, you’re stuck with a small sample size and it’s hard to know if Japanese pitchers are getting better or just the last few were better than translated stats said they would be.

Don’t read too much into how hitters describe pitchers. The Twins once signed Dusty Hughes because Mauer and Morneau said he was nasty.

FWIW, since getting demoted, Semien has a 20.9% walk rate and a 9.3% K rate. That’s not a typo. Can any meaning be derived from this?

12:53

I rarely ask questions specific to my team, but you’re the one guy who’s opinion I value most. So here goes…I’ve suffered through owning Brad Miller all season in my AL-only league, and though he has been a tad bit better of late, I picked up Suarez just to make sure I’m covered at SS. Corey Hart is available on my waiver wire, so I’m contemplating picking him up. That said, Suarez and possibly Danny Farquhar are the only two guys I could drop for Hart. What should I do? Thanks so much!!!

Gary Thorne (O’s TV play-by-play guy) had to introduce a graphic in one of last week’s games that used WAR. Any suggestions on where to look, or what to look for, in terms of jobs as an American moving to Germany with no real plan?

1:40
Eno Sarris: LOL. They speak German well, but there are usually jobs editing English for English-language publications. Or teaching English.

Why does everyone predict the demise of the 300 win pitcher? People have been saying that with each one to do it since i can remember yet if you look it up, half the guys who have won 300 won their 300th in my lifetime (’77). #FAIL

1:41
Eno Sarris: Fewer seasonal wins every year. Fewer 20-game winners. Fewer innings for starters. More innings for relievers. Guys winning 300th did it in a different environment, largely.

1:41
Eno Sarris: by seasonal wins I mean, the best starters are winning fewer games every year.

Wow, you called Dozier. After seeing the results of last year’s bold predictions I started tuning them out. Brad Miller still worth grabbing in deep leagues?

My league freaked out when I landed Matt Kemp, Ryan Howard and Charlie Blackmon for Chris Sale. They tried to veto but I prevailed. Thoughts? Lopsided deal? Man do I hate trade vetos.

1:42
Eno Sarris: I’d rather have Sale!

Eno, love reading your articles and insights here and on twitter! What do you make of Verlander. His velocity was back up last night averaging 95ish on his fastball and topping out at 99, and he appeared to have good movement on all his pitches. Is there reason for hope (the surgery etc) that he can get back in a groove and be a useful commodity both in real life and fantasy?
