Eno Sarris: just some “interesting” rap
12:01 |
Comment From MikeSalazar or Walker for 2014?
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: Just based on my eyes, I say Salazar. Love love the changeup and the fastball. Fewer control problems in the numbers, too.
12:02 |
Comment From JohnZombie hoard is on its way. You must flee. What 3 items do you take from your house (items, not people).
12:03 |
Eno Sarris: Obviously the computer and all charging, listening devices that are usually attached to it. My conditioner. My jacket (layering is important in NoCal).
12:03 |
Comment From Mr. Wrestling IVHe is the woman’s pet, he is the man’s regret. What you see is what you get. And, ladies, what you don’t see is better yet.

Comment From Mr. Wrestling IVHe eats t-bone steaks, he lifts barbell plates, he’s sweeter than chocolate cake.

12:03 |
Comment From ozziewhat line would you expect from avisail garcia next year?
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: I struggle with this one, obviously. Scouts say he has power coming, but I don’t see it. But if any park could coax power out of him, it’s the one he calls home now. He hits too many balls on the ground to be a power threat. But he goes oppo, so he might have a good BABIP. I’ll give him a .260 batting average with 15 homers and 5 steals.
12:05 |
Comment From JoeMaddonsMCHave you considered a rap career?
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: There’s a reason I write: the power to edit.
12:05 |
Comment From SteveSo keep 9, 20 team league, keep forever. My locks are Harper, Miggy, Posey, Pedroia, Hanley, Kershaw, Stanton… who’s my next two between Waino, Cespedes, Cobb?
12:06 |
Eno Sarris: I think you can keep two pitchers in a keep nine, but three is pushing it. Cespedes can .265/25/10 true talent, IMO, so him and Waino.
12:06 |
Comment From ChrisDo you think Castro will be fine or should i start lookin for another catcher?
12:06 |
Eno Sarris: No reason for them to push it.
12:07 |
Comment From DaveLeft Hand milk stout is kinda awesome.
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: Yup. Make sure to hard pour!
12:07 |
Comment From MiketronWill you still be doing the podcast into the offseason?
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: yes but probably less often
12:07 |
Comment From DaveJeff Shark Boy is killing me. Any chance he improves over the last couple weeks or can I let him go in a redraft?
12:08 |
Eno Sarris: Still getting strikeouts, not really walking a ton of guys, and even though his velocity is down, it’s still 94ish. Dunno, I still like him.
12:08 |
Comment From GuestOver/under Cargo blast 5 more homers ROS?
12:08 |
Eno Sarris: Under, it looks like he’s going to take some days off.
12:08 |
Comment From DaveDo you like Chooch ROS/
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: Carlos Ruiz can do what he’s doing right now, yes. Not much power, good batting average.
12:09 |
Comment From JEBAt the top of the hour you will feel my wrath, after I take this here bath
12:09 |
Comment From Mr. Wrestling IVWhat is the most complete Roto victory you’ve ever seen? Has someone ever won all the points?
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: I’ve had straight twelves with one eleven.
12:09 |
Comment From Guesthow good can martin perez be?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: I didn’t even think he could do this, but if you look at his pitches separately, he does have what it takes. No idea why he’s not translating whiffs into strikeouts. I think he could, and be a 2/3 in real life, a good but not great fantasy guy.
12:11 |
Comment From GuestAs the MLB season begins to gear up for the playoffs, I reminded that pumpkin themed brews will soon dominate the offerings.
12:11 |
Comment From tylersnoteswho is more likely to end 2014 on a major league roster: josh johnson or mariano rivera?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: Hey come on now, JJ could put a healthy year together in the National League, maybe, right, okay maybe you’re right.
12:12 |
Comment From DallasEno! I need a good streamer today. Gray? Gonzales? Vogelsong?
12:12 |
Eno Sarris: Gray Gray GRay Gray
12:12 |
Comment From RazorFantasy baseball playoffs: I finished 1st in the standings by about 20 games, and am down this week 2-8 in H2H. 1) What beer should I drink if I go down so pathetically in the championship game? 2) What beer should I drink if I make a huge comeback and win it all?
12:13 |
Eno Sarris: 1) Something strong that doesn’t taste super strong. Maybe a Speedway Stout or something. 2) Something that tastes just like victory: Double Jack.
12:13 |
Comment From Adam DummHoly crap, Coco Crisp! Dude’s on fire. I love the guy, but he’s getting old and will fall apart soon, right?
12:13 |
Eno Sarris: He IS falling apart. I mean, he’s going to do that thing where he’s good when he’s in, but he misses games.
12:14 |
Comment From Dr. Metof all the recent callups, anyone strike you immediately as a Sept contributor?
12:14 |
Eno Sarris: Not really. Maybe a guy like Kevin Gausman in a league where you can get holds from him in an SP slot. Guys like Taijuan Walker when they actually get a start, but so many pitchers are up against innings limits.
12:15 |
Comment From Woody BarrelsonROS who do you want? Rutledge, Lake, or Jeter?
12:16 |
Eno Sarris: Wow. Jeter has fallen hard. I guess I would take the healthy young Junior Lake even after the BABIP regression just because it’s not clear if Rutledge will play every day.
12:16 |
Comment From Guesthow high do you have jason castro ranked nxt seas?
12:17 |
Eno Sarris: I’ve been burned before by interviews informing my opinion too much. Chase Headley convinced me that pulling the ball more was the source of his power and that was sustainable. (Well, I’m still a bit convinced and think he’ll have a good September actually.) And Castro said he was tinkering with his FB rate and he did and now he has power. I’ll put him in the top twelve, maybe top ten, but I can’t just pencil him back in for another 20 homers.
12:17 |
Comment From Bob LoblawI’m in a super close race, in the middle of 3 teams where top and bottom are separated by 5 R, 5 teams separated by 4 HR, and 5 teams separated by 8 RBI. I’m also 4 SB behind a couple of teams! With these races do you start Billy Hamilton ahead of Cozart or Aybar?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: I think you’ll shoot yourself in the foot with runs if you start a pinch runner. If you are in a daily league and you see him in the lineup, you have to start him, but otherwise… nah.
12:18 |
Comment From JasoWhat three baseball players would you want with you during the zombie hoard?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: Joey Votto, Sean Doolittle and R.A. Dickey.
12:18 |
Comment From GuestRank for next season: Hosmer, Rizzo, Belt
12:19 |
Eno Sarris: Rizzo, Hosmer, Belt. Even with the good strides that Belt has made, in order to get into this bottom of the top twelve ranking, his K% is the highest and so he has the most BA risk.
12:19 |
Comment From GregCan’t wait around for Dom Brown at this point, right? Matt Adams a decent flier?
12:19 |
Comment From DavidHow many more innings does Wacha have? He’s already obliterated last year’s total. Have the Cardinals spoken about how much longer they’ll use him?
12:20 |
Eno Sarris: They said he’ll throw 100 pitches the next time out, so yeah, they’re watching him. They tried to skip some starts early in the year to extend him here, too.
12:20 |
Comment From person hscerover under 200 MLB PA for Espinosa next year and with whom
12:20 |
Eno Sarris: Just saw a decent argument for backup MI on the Braves, which might get him more than 200 PA.
12:20 |
Comment From JTA-Rod or Venable as a plug and play UTIL player?
12:21 |
Eno Sarris: Good one. Venable has more speed, and since you plugging and playing, you won’t need to play him v LHP. I think I take him.
12:21 |
Comment From Dr. MetSo Gibby mentioned Chris Owings “will play” but where? They already got Didi and Hill is manning 2b…. who is getting traded?
12:21 |
Comment From JTFavourite current rapper? Just don’t say Lay Z, please!
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: I’d answer but I’d ruin the lyrics of the day.
12:22 |
Comment From JT“top of the hour you will feel my power no that’s lame I’m really more tame”? Let me guess, Will Smith?
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: I deserved that.
12:22 |
Comment From Johnny S.Run the Jewels, Eno! You truste either Cahill @ SF or Guthrie vs. SEA as a streamer today?
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: Ding ding ding. I’ll take Cahill. I don’t get Guthrie.
12:22 |
Comment From Mike HonchoIn a keep 3 format, do you keep Fernandez as a 16th rounder?
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: I have this question before me, too, as a 24th rounder. I might do it in my league because it’s a k/9 league and starters w/ K/9 become more valuable. And in the past I would have had a hard line against keeping a pitcher in a keep three. But that’s a lot of surplus value. I might take the chance.
12:23 |
Comment From YoungbloodeIs trading away young “prospect” type players for established players year in and year out a viable strategy in keeper leagues if the veterans can be expected to produce?
12:24 |
Eno Sarris: Yes, but I would target guys 28-31 or so. Get far past 30 and you’re risking yourself too much.
12:24 |
Comment From JEBhow come the roto podcast isn’t on stitcher?
12:24 |
Eno Sarris: It isn’t? It should be. Will fix.
12:24 |
Comment From BartI picked up A’s Sonny Gray to stream against the Astros Peacock tonight. Is he a strong win candidate tonight? I’m in a points league and am sitting in 1st by 200 pts. If he wins I get +100 pts but if he loses I get -250 pts. (no decision is 0) Would you risk it?
12:24 |
Comment From DavidWhat’s a hard pour?
12:25 |
Eno Sarris: Pour down the middle. Turn the bottle upside down over your glass pretty much.
12:25 |
Comment From SteveWhat’s the best piece of advice you have for someone starting a brewery?
12:26 |
Eno Sarris: This comes from studying the early nineties beer bubble and from my recent BeerGraphs interview with Chris White, the king of beer yeast: open a local brewpub, and don’t distribute until you’re very sure you’re ready. Kill in a local market. People want to go drink local beer at a crafty place.
12:26 |
Comment From Guestdo the Dodgers have the best rotation for a 5 game playoff series or is it still the Tigers?
12:26 |
Eno Sarris: Gonna study Verlander for an ESPN piece running Saturday, but from looking I think he’s righted the ship somewhat and yeah I’ll take them.
12:27 |
Comment From juan pierres mustacheguy didn’t specify nitro milk stout…make sure it’s nitro before you hard pour. if you grab a beer from a friend’s fridge and assume that it’s nitro because it’s LHMS, you might end up pouring beer all over a dinner table, just hypothetically.
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: And never ever hard pour a saison.
12:27 |
Comment From GuestOH CRAP I’M LATE

12:27 |
Comment From bdhudsonOH CRAP I’M LATE AND FORGOT TO PUT MY USERNAME IN

12:27 |
Comment From MartyWho’s next on the interviewing target list? The Cole piece was great.
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: I really want Yu Darvish but I missed him. Today I’m going to the park. Probably Goldschmidt if he’ll talk to me!
12:27 |
Comment From RazorAre you sure your “frequent emailer” isn’t just your wife messing with you? Or Cistulli?
12:28 |
Eno Sarris: This emailer told me recently that he didn’t care about batting average, he just wanted hits. I don’t think Carson could bring himself to write that.
12:28 |
Comment From Shane SpencerKeep Profar, Bogaerts, or Andrus?
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: Oh dammit. That’s a mediocre bird in hand versus two birds in the bush. Do you have to know now? There’s so much offseason left to figure out who’s got a role. If they all had everyday roles, I might take the chance on Profar’s power/speed combo.
12:29 |
Comment From Bmore GuyManny and Jones on course for 200hits. Two members of the team both getting to 200 hits would be an O’s first. You think it will get done???
12:30 |
Eno Sarris: They will actually play every day since they are in a tight race. I’d be surprised by Adam Jones doing it, but since he doesn’t walk much, that allows him to put a lot of balls in play. I bet Manny falls short.
12:30 |
Comment From MaxamuzDUDA HAD A MONSTER GAME.
12:30 |
Eno Sarris: HE ALMOST CYCLED
12:30 |
Comment From MartyPumpkins are far more conducive to smashing than drinking
12:30 |
Comment From BirdSonny Gray is looking like a nice keeper no?
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: There are some long-term concerns in that he’s a little guy. And I watched his approach against lefties, and the changeup might not be great. But the curve shouldn’t have a terrible platoon split, so I think he’ll figure that out. Good velocity, great command.
12:31 |
Comment From person hscerJJ or ‘Spinosa though
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: Hardy? Hardy!
12:31 |
Comment From Dr. Met1) bourbon stout 2) belgian tripel!
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll do the first, but not the second.
12:31 |
Comment From David2014 Keeper question. Any of these pitchers rate a top-5 round protection: Harvey, Minor, Greinke, Holland, Garza? I feel ike with Harvey’s injury I’m left with a staff chock-full-o fantasy #2s…
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: Just pass. You can get all those guys back in the sixth round. Keep five hitters.
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: And don’t worry too hard. I’ve won plenty of leagues picking my first pitcher in rounds 6-8.
12:32 |
Comment From MarkApröpös nöthing, since Mesut Özil has jöined Arsenal I have taken the cömpletely sane and ratiönal decisiön tö umlaut every “ö”.
12:33 |
Comment From MiketronDo you think Vinne Pestano gets back inot the Cleveland closer conversation end of this year or next year?
12:33 |
Eno Sarris: No. There’s been some erosion of his stuff. Cody Allen looks like the future guy once Perez is gone.
12:33 |
Comment From kevinthecomicHow come when an outfielder makes an ill-advised dive for a ball and it ends up rolling to the wall, they score it a triple (or inside the park HR) instead of a single and a two-base (or three-base) error?
12:33 |
Eno Sarris: I guess it’s too hard to figure out how far the runner would have actually run.
12:33 |
Comment From JALEno, can I drop Dave Wright or CarGo at this point in a redraft if I am close to the money? Thanks!
12:34 |
Eno Sarris: CarGo is actually with his team, so I wouldn’t. Wright is further away.
12:34 |
Comment From GuestDrop Dom Brown in a redraft, headed to playoffs? Could add a Chris Carter/Mitch Moreland type to replace the pop…
12:34 |
Eno Sarris: You gotta be cutthroat in the playoffs. Brown says he’s at least a week away. that could be your last week.
12:34 |
Comment From STiVoI’ve been keeping Cain for the last few years in a 12-team, 8-keeper max league… Is he keepable this offseason? Strongly considering tossing him back.
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: You could get him in the first round if you wanted, I think he’ll go in the 8-10th rounds next year.
12:35 |
Comment From juan pierres mustacheflying dog is doing a marzen seasonal that i quite liked (though, mixed reviews online) instead of doing the typical pumpkin swill. let’s hope it catches on
12:35 |
Comment From Atwoodwould you drop craig for crisp? cant really use craig on bench if injured
12:36 |
Eno Sarris: A sprained foot could knock him out a week or two, and I’m assuming you’re the guy in the eight-team redraft. Craig’s a .290/20 guy, which seems borderline in your league anyway.
12:36 |
Comment From RazorStart Cain on Saturday vs AZ?
12:36 |
Comment From The Oriole BirdHow many PAs do you think the O’s will give Schoop this year? How deep does a league have to be for him to be fantasy relevant this year?
12:36 |
Eno Sarris: I own him on the bench in my 12-team AL-only LABR team. I don’t expect him to play much.
12:37 |
Comment From Internet User Since 1995What do you mean by “hard pour” for LH Milk Stout? And why does it matter?
12:38 |
Eno Sarris: It’s for the nitro version of the beer. By pouring ‘hard’ you allow the nitro to … ‘mix’ I’ll say. You get the waterfall effect you see when you get a guinness on tap. Spreads the smooth mouthfeel around.
12:39 |
Comment From The Oriole BirdFinally, a new brewery opened in DC (Atlas Brew Works). We are in desperate need of good local beers here. (Dogfish Head just outside the area, in Delaware.)
12:39 |
Comment From Internet User Since 1995California Common is a style of beer, yes? Any good?
12:39 |
Eno Sarris: Hoppy lager, similar to the pale ale session beers out there. Good sunny day beer.
12:39 |
Comment From eRutRut has been hitting last few days and I would guess that if he’s hot, they’ll play him over DJLM. Assuming he gets the majority of starts, then who do you take ROS?
12:40 |
Eno Sarris: It’s a crap shoot between him and Lake, both bad plate discipline guys with power and speed. Since Rut Rut plays in Coors half the time, I’ll take him if they all have daily roles.
12:40 |
Comment From MarkKeep 3 league: Vöttö and Stantön are definite keepers. Whö dö yöu like fröm Braun, Pedröia and Heyward.
12:41 |
Eno Sarris: Pedroia I think. Tough position, thumb should heal, more power next year. Obviously Braun over Heyward given their respective upsides.
12:41 |
Comment From MartyYou don’t want Lucas Duda v. Zombies?! Epic Fail Eno!!
12:42 |
Eno Sarris: He’s too nice. Actually… it was VERSUS zombies, different list. Adam Dunn, Luke Scott (for the guns, not the rat-tail) and… someone fast. Billy Hamilton.
12:42 |
Comment From SEWRe layering… I tend to like places where the weather leads to layering. But what’s the best practice for carrying the extra stuff (e.g., jackets) during the warm time of day?
12:43 |
Eno Sarris: This is a serious problem for men. I usually just use my jean pockets because of g-damn tight jeans, everyone can see all the crap in my pockets.
12:43 |
Comment From Adam DummWhy is Doolittle on your zombie list? Have you interviewed him in the past?
12:43 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah he’s interesting and interested, which is a great combo.
12:43 |
Comment From Henry RowengartnerDoes Jeff Samardzija take a step forward next year with command and last longer in games and improve all his stat lines or is he truly a box of chocolates?
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: It’s a little nerve wracking when a guy doesn’t have great natural command and uses a split finger as his main secondary pitch. I saw enough out of him this year that I like him going forward.
12:44 |
Comment From Ringtone ComposerLike Kluber ROS, once he comes off the DL?
12:44 |
Comment From Steve SaxDom Brown worth keeping over Nelson Cruz?
12:44 |
Comment From KevinIn your opinion, which player has (positively or negatively) the greatest difference between fantasy value and real life value? I’m thinking guys like Andrelton Simmons and Miguel Cabrera who have extreme defensive skillsets.
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: Gotta be Simmons. Or a DH like Ortiz.
12:45 |
Comment From Daniel WWhat are some fantasy football sites you recommend?
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: The Fantasy Fix, The Fake Football.
12:46 |
Comment From So Many Mediocre Franklins on the MsWhat do you see for Nick Franklin’s future? Is he more the torrid start or the weaker finish? A comp going forward?
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: It’s too bad he’s striking out so much. But he’s struck out a lot at new levels and figured it out eventually. And his swSTR% says to me (10%) that he can whittle it down closer to 20% and have a .250-.260 type average once things click for him. With power and speed at second, it works.
12:47 |
Comment From 24601Do you thinks the chatter about Puig attitude will cost my ROY votes? and should he or fernandez get it?
12:48 |
Eno Sarris: I hate “chatter about attitude.” Often there are cultural biases at work. I’d have to look closer though, because JF had a great season and it shouldn’t be ignored.
12:48 |
Comment From Farting for ScienceMiggy Miggy Miggy, can’t you see, sometimes your bombs just hypnotize me
12:48 |
Comment From Jealous BurksWil Myers flipping his bat one every homer= Hard pouring every beer
12:48 |
Comment From Dave Camerons PuppyAlso never even try to pour Green Flash Rayon vert. That thing is impossible to handle (and then too fizzy if drank from the bottle)
12:49 |
Comment From JayWhat’s your gut say on Halladay next year, landing spot and stats?
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: NL contender like the Dodgers, 80-110 innings of usable but not vintage Doc. Maybe even a half-way through season signing. Retirement.
12:50 |
Comment From Guestgyorko just got dropped in my keeper, do I drop Brad Miller or Arod to pick him up? I am in 1st place heading into the playoffs
12:51 |
Eno Sarris: I think they can both .260, but Miller has more speed and plays SS, so I think you can hold on to him. If you’re not using A-Rod much, or at Util every once in a while, you could risk it. But the playoffs are a crapshoot. Probably okay to let a rebuilder get him.
12:52 |
Comment From Dave Camerons PuppyWhen are people going to realize there isn’t any pumpkin in pumpkin flavored things? It’s just a spice mixture.
12:52 |
Eno Sarris: I guess I just don’t care. I don’t like the spice mixture then.
12:52 |
Comment From person hscerBrad Peacock is still free in FG TG. I protest this justice.
12:52 |
Comment From HogwagonWhy doesn’t Cole throw his changeup more often? Seems like it would still fit the PirateWay, generate grounders, but may also generate swings and misses? Can he not control it or something?
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: It’s actually a swing-and-miss changeup, not a grounder changeup. Not that that matters a ton, but that’s what I saw in the numbers.
12:53 |
Comment From Gila MonsterI drank 2 Heady Toppers and I’m pretty sure my urine smelled like hops the next morning.
12:53 |
Comment From MartyI was up in my playoff game 6-5, went on a date, and came back down 1-10. Life’s just not fair.
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: I kind of hate head to head.
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: AT least you got a date.
12:53 |
Comment From Gila MonsterThings that sucks: teams like the Braves/Dodgers sitting players, because they have clinched their division. You could make the argument for the Tigers and Miggy too.
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: Right in the middle of our playoffs, how could they.
12:53 |
Comment From BartPick one to stream, Cingrani (vs Lynn) or Vogelsong (vs Cahill).
12:54 |
Comment From GuestWhat is a redraft league do you redraft weekly and keep a few guys?
12:54 |
Eno Sarris: redraft = not a keeper
12:54 |
Comment From GuestIf Craig is out for an extended period, would you take Adams over Hosmer or Rizzo?
12:54 |
Comment From Kool KeithThanks for chatting, Eno! Any spec save recommendations I should have my eye on in a 14-teamer? It’s a struggle out there on the wire.
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: Well Pedro Strop is going to get chances, but deeper than that… Josh Fields? Deeper? Jose Veras? Deeper? Gonzalez Germen?
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: That got dirty quick.
12:55 |
Comment From Jealous BurksWhat’s your favorite fall beer? Too late for saison/ too early for porter? Given that all pumpkin beers should be hard poured into the sewer.
12:56 |
Eno Sarris: I can get with some dopple bocks and oktoberfests.
12:56 |
Comment From JALPlease pick three of these guys that I should run out there every day in my 12-team 5×5 where I am doing my best to stay alive (need help in all/any cats): Markakis, Gardner, L. Martin, Swisher, Pagan, Bourn, Nava. Thanks!
12:57 |
Eno Sarris: Gardner. Martin. Bourn. That’s a bit speed-heavy so maybe Swisher over Bourn. The Indians are going to face some terrible pitching this month.

Comment From JALEno, re SEW’s comment (correct me if I am wrong), I think he meant, “how best should i carry/wrap/etc. my jacket during the day when I am not wearing it”.
12:58 |
Eno Sarris: Also a serious frigging problem. The waist is so cumbersome, the neck is so preppy. Gotta just frigging carry it, and sacrifice the use of your left hand for a bit. Then put it down somewhere. Then drink. Then forget it somewhere.

Comment From Maxamuz
This guys a legend, Chet f'n Steadman
12:58 |
Comment From TonyThink Michael Choice can be an impact player for Oakland in 2014?
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: He’s traded some power for contact. But that makes me nervous because what if the swing and miss comes back but not the power. I think I’ll be a bit down on him, and I’m not even sure he has an everyday role next year.
12:59 |
Comment From MattExpectations for Gausman next year? Is he in the rotation to start the year?
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: He will be on half my teams next year.
1:00 |
Comment From tylersnotesconsider for 2014 adding mid-season updates to fangraphs+ profiles. would be a good way to capture guys who were missed, and for cistulli to right the wrong of chad young’s 2013 corey kluber profile. I would pay more for such a service.
1:00 |
Comment From JALBut why has Yahoo not reverted back to the old page or given us the opportunity to revert back? It is terrible and I can no longer easily see when my pitchers are on the bump next or see how my batters have fared in the past vs. today’s starting pitcher. Why?
1:00 |
Eno Sarris: I’m struggling pretty hard to find a new routine. I’m using MLB.com right now.
1:01 |
Comment From saskatunesI’m going to have to drop someone to reactivate Matt Cain soon… who is most expendable looking toward 2014– C Torres, Petit, Oberholtzer?
1:01 |
Comment From DallasWould you keep Matt Moore at 15$ for next year. 260 budget for 30 man roster.
1:01 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah that’s a decent price.
1:01 |
Comment From HogwagonWould you keep Aaron Hicks at a negligible salary in a dynasty keeper?
1:01 |
Comment From PhilWas Haren’s start against the Mets an outlier? His velocity and Zone% seemed same as recent. For that game his BABIP=.692, FIP=.79 and xFIP=1.82. The only thing I find as a concern from the game is that the LD rate was higher for him than normal. Will he still be a good streamer vs weaker competition coming up (MIA, NYM)?
1:02 |
Eno Sarris: Haren was righting the ship, and I was prepared to tout him for those matchups before that game. Now I’m all out of love.
1:02 |
Comment From MosesRun the Jewels!! McCutchen’s BABIP since the start of 2012 is over .365. ZiPS & Steamer have his ROS BABIP in the .330 range. Do you think that’s too aggressive a regression given how long he’s kept this up, or is that about right?
1:03 |
Eno Sarris: Career BABIP .331. I think they probably have it right.
1:03 |
Comment From JoeHow much stock do you put in home/road splits for pitchers? H2H playoffs next week and thinking about Redmond (high SS%) with 2 home starts (Angels/Orioles) where he has been excellent. Would you consider it?
1:04 |
Eno Sarris: I do consider them if they line up with expectations of the park. Like if a Rockies pitcher is bad at home. For Redmond to be good at home in this small a sample, I think that’s just random. I like him for that Angels start though, just because of the matchup.
1:04 |
Comment From JoeI have 86 of 90 right now in a 9 teamer. Still could catch saves/wins leaders, but SB might be gone…
1:04 |
Comment From JustinEvery pumpkin beer I’ve ever tried: First sip — “hey, this is tasty!” Second through fourth sips — “there’s NO way I can finish this.”
1:04 |
Comment From person hscerPumpkins are overrated.
1:04 |
Comment From Dave Camerons PuppyNo I’m not saying pumpkin things are good. They are in fact awful. But the whole cult around them is so weird especially given where the flavors come form
1:04 |
Comment From saskatunesWhat the heck does Derek Jeter do next year? I get that he won’t want to go out on this injury year but… can he really expect much better?
1:05 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t think his body wants to play shortstop any more even if his mind does. I wonder if they could sell him on super-util.
1:05 |
Comment From TJOne of the (many) reasons I respect Sierra Nevada is their non-giving-in to pumpkin beer. What’s that you said? No, you really want a brown ale.
1:05 |
Eno Sarris: I could get with some browns in the fall.
1:06 |
Comment From JayTFor the second straight year I’ve coughed up a 20 point lead. What should I do the rest of the season, blow it all up and try to find some hot hands, pitch and ditch every day, or just stick with the guys that got me here and hope they turn it around?
1:06 |
Eno Sarris: Next year: sell more guys high. Now: take your worst hitter and worst pitcher and drop them for streamers. Stream for steals. Stream for pitching matchups.
1:06 |
Comment From Rubby of the RoseI now hate H2H and weekly rosters, because 5 of my starters got injured on the first day of the playoffs and I lost. I was the #1 seed. 🙁
1:06 |
Eno Sarris: I think that’s a terrible combination of settings.
1:07 |
Comment From tylersnotesdo the top rated ipa’s have such high BARs because the replacement level is so crappy? i’m trying to understand why some of my favorite belgian style ales all have 3-6 BAR– i assume because production in belgian style ales is generally pretty high?
1:08 |
Eno Sarris: No it’s the other way around. Replacement level for the IPAs is very high, highest in beer. But because they are drunk so much, they get a boost. 35% of the sample is a pale ale of some sort, but 45% of the top 100 is a pale ale. Because we have an adjustment for ‘number of rankings’ and that’s high for IPAs.
1:08 |
Eno Sarris: It’s something we’re looking at.
1:08 |
Comment From Jealous BurksRe: Choice. Don’t you think the A’s will sell high on Coco and pick up his 7.5 mill option and deal him?
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: If they do, do you think they’ll hand a rookie an every day job in CF? I think they could maybe bring him along as a fourth OF.
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: Also, predicting Beane’s offseason moves = folly.
1:09 |
Comment From Rubby of the RoseEarlier this year, in my keeper league, I dropped George Springer for Jordy Mercer because I needed a MI for a couple weeks. Console me.
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: He’s not 100% a major leaguer. Lots of strikeouts.
1:10 |
Comment From saskatunesWhy so down on Petit? Or just dont think there’s a SP spot for him next year?
1:10 |
Eno Sarris: He will be 29 next year, throws 88 and has a long history of mediocrity.
1:10 |
Comment From Gila MonsterHow is Gausman not in the rotation THIS year? You have Feldman/Norris/MigGonzalez in your rotation? But not a proven top prospect?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: Agree. I guess they just don’t want to see someone adjusting to bigs while they in the race.
1:11 |
Comment From zackWacha or Gausman for next season?
1:11 |
Comment From Rated RookieWho would you target as additions to a 2014 SP dynasty rotation that will include Archer, Cole, Teheran, Fernandez, Walker, Appel and Bradley? What *kind* of pitcher will help to balance out some of that youth?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe a James Shields. Like a lower-tier number one with a good WHIP.
1:12 |
Comment From Dr. MetTo be fair, those “LD’s” in the Haren game were a bunch of dinker and dunkers. BABIP is a cruel mistress.
1:12 |
Comment From BeattieHave you ever done a chat kinda drunk before? When you decided you wanted 2-3 of those 8% ABV beers instead of just one.
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: I live on the west coast, so no.
1:12 |
Comment From YahooI’m telling you guys, Four Peaks Pumpkin Porter is amazing. Its just Pumpkiny enough to give you that slight fall feeling, yet smooth and light enough to drink all night.
1:12 |
Comment From Rubby of the RoseBell’s “Best Brown” is fantastic.
1:12 |
Comment From 24601so your saying Jeter should be content on becoming Michael Young?
1:13 |
Eno Sarris: Well not ‘content,’ but maybe they can sell it to him. “Hey Capn Jetes, I’ve got this great idea, could keep you healthy.” Wait, that sounds like a different sort of solution.
1:13 |
Eno Sarris: yes this workaround works… for now.
1:13 |
Comment From JoeWill George Springer be called up this year (and if so, make an impact)? OKC lost their first playoff game yesterday. If they lose the series, you think he will be called up afterward?
1:14 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe, but if he’s not on the forty-man they might just wait.
1:14 |
Comment From MattIf Robertson gets named the closer in NY during the offseason, is he a top 5 closer going into drafts next year?
1:14 |
Eno Sarris: I think that’s how I’d rate him, but I’d try to get him cheap anyway.
1:14 |
Comment From GuestRotoinfo has easy-to-access hitter v. pitcher ratios built into their daily lineups, for what it’s worth.
1:14 |
Eno Sarris: But hitter v pitcher information is not useful. Please don’t use it.
1:15 |
Comment From Rated RookieTrying to decide between Gattis and Lawrie in early consideration as my final keeper in a 16-keeper, 11-team league. Catcher and 2B are my two empty roster spots. Any thoughts? Pray that Lawrie is Toronto’s 2B or just keep him because he is still only 23?
1:15 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll take Lawrie just based on age and promise. Let’s not assume the Braves will just put Gattis at the catcher spot and let McCann go. And I think you may have Lawrie at second at least for one year.
1:15 |
Comment From juan pierres mustacheH2H where 75% of the money goes to regular season winners and 25% to playoff winners works decently well. Still some randomness, but it at least rewards the people who do well over 20 weeks more than people who turn it on at the end.
1:16 |
Comment From GuestNot sure why people are surprised that the average beer drinker enjoys pumpkin ales. They just taste like cinnamon. Same reason people like beers like Blue Moon which are “Belgian” wheat ales but really just taste like orange.
1:16 |
Comment From DallasHolland or Griffin for 2014?
1:16 |
Eno Sarris: Interesting. On stuff, Holland. On park, Grififn. I’ll take Holland.
1:16 |
Comment From EvanCan Billy Hamilton be effective as a starter with a .650 OPS for the Reds next year? If not, who do you see them going after? Chris Young? Franklin Gutierrez?
1:16 |
Eno Sarris: Pretty sure he’ll be their starting CF next year and lead off.
1:16 |
Comment From KJI would be interested to see the marks on a lot of these IPAs as compared to a replacement level IPA. Within their own category and not across all beer.
1:17 |
Eno Sarris: Then use wOBAR instead of BAR.
1:17 |
Eno Sarris: wOBAR is just IPAs scored against the RL for IPAs.
1:17 |
Comment From Guestcan you write code?
1:17 |
Eno Sarris: No, that’s why I needed co-pilot Matt Dennewitz on BeerGraphs.
1:18 |
Comment From JoeCan Christian Yelich overcome the Marlins lineup and park to be a valuable fantasy contributor for the H2H playoffs?
1:18 |
Eno Sarris: Well, he’s stealing bases and I’m pleasantly surprised by the strikeout rate. Hitting a ton of grounders. Wouldn’t own him for power right now.
1:18 |
Comment From Can a moustache have a moustache? Are you okay with dropping David Wright for Adam Eaton?
1:19 |
Eno Sarris: In a redraft, especially h2h playoffs? okay.
1:19 |
Comment From BartAsche or Moustakas ROS?
1:19 |
Eno Sarris: Asche actually
1:19 |
Comment From EvanJabari Blash a legitimate prospect? Worth a stash in deep dynasty leagues?
1:20 |
Eno Sarris: Lotta strikeouts, and at 24 is not young for level. But power and speed enough for deep dynasty stash.
1:20 |
Comment From Dave Camerons PuppyWorried that there are too many breweries opening? I think the current selection is great, but it seems like with everyone that wants to start a brewery it’s going to double or even triple in a few years
1:21 |
Comment From Gila MonsterBest way to learn SQL? It is a 400 level course at my university with a ton of CompSci prereqs. I’m a on my Epidemiology/biostatistics Masters, yet have not been introduced to SQL. It seems useful for my hobbies and profession.
1:21 |
Eno Sarris: Don’t do it the way I’m doing it, which is to bug all the people you know that know SQL with stupid questions.
1:21 |
Comment From Adam DummDo you DraftSheet or other daily fantasy contests? I’m intrigued, but not thrilled about putting real $$ down everyday…
1:22 |
Eno Sarris: I like daily ball, don’t do it as much as I want to because of all my many leagues. You can risk as little as $5 and have fun with it.
1:22 |
Comment From DNABeerGraphs should host some blind beer tastings! It’s well established in the wine community that people rate and review things differently when they know what it is. I’d be curious to see whether the ABV effect still persists as much when people don’t know what the ABV is or
1:22 |
Eno Sarris: Very much want to do this.
1:22 |
Comment From Rubby of the Rosewhy does anyone draft closers? you can just stream relievers all season…
1:22 |
Eno Sarris: Well I like getting a bunch of mid-to-bottom tier closers, that seems to work for me.
1:23 |
Comment From saskatunesSmyly stuck in relief for good or stretched out next year?
1:23 |
Eno Sarris: He’s good enough to start. Feel like his GM will give him a shot next year.
1:23 |
Comment From MartyNY Media thinks Yankees are making the playoffs. Thoughts?
1:24 |
Eno Sarris: They’ll have to slug their way in. With Baltimore’s starting pitching, it could happen. But the Rays are over 60%. I think they’ll do it.
1:24 |
Comment From HogwagonIs Longoria hurt? Just slumping? Who’s the best replacement in a points league, Scutaro, Arod, or Asche?
1:24 |
Eno Sarris: You stick with Longoria.
1:24 |
Comment From KJI see the CWS are starting Siemens (2b/SS) at 3b… could he be the LT solution there?
1:25 |
Eno Sarris: Yes, there’s a lot to like about him. Watch him.
1:25 |
Comment From GuestKyler Seager a top-5 3B in drafts next year?
1:26 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe just outside, would have to actually look, but he can keep doing what he’s doing, and he’s a good player.
1:26 |
Comment From JoeBaseball HQ is really high on Jonathan Villar for his ability to steal basis. They have him projected as a $10 player versus Nick Franklin $2 and Erick Aybar $2. The values seem a little out of whack, right?
1:26 |
Eno Sarris: He’s probably a true-talent .220 hitter.
1:27 |
Comment From MaxamuzXBox needs another year in AAA I feel.
1:28 |
Eno Sarris: I’ve been vetoed. I guess he’s just X. That’s okay. I think he’ll be an MLBer for most of next year.
1:28 |
Comment From Daniel WI live in NorCal and recently sent you an FB message saying something along the lines of, “Lemme buy u beer and talk beisbol plz.” Inappropriate or reasonable?
1:28 |
Eno Sarris: Totally reasonable. Will do a little meetup for an away playoff game maybe.
1:28 |
Comment From BartMiller, Gennett or Plouffe to replace Bogaerts for playoff run?
1:29 |
Comment From JoeyIn a weekly 5×5 league, is there a way to prevent the dominance of 2 start pitchers? Would adding walks or total bases make sense? Holds is not something we are interested in.
1:29 |
Eno Sarris: Total bases does it. Or get off weekly format lol.
1:29 |
Comment From Rubby of the RoseXbox = Xander?
1:30 |
Comment From Dr. MetWhen/where is the NYC FG meetup?
1:31 |
Eno Sarris: I’ll be there in a week. I better look to see if I can do a meetup, otherwise it’s in October with Appelman and Cameron.
1:31 |
Comment From Hogwagonmy previous question about replacing Longoria was meant to be “if he misses time/goes on the DL”…in that case, Scutaro, Arod or Asche?
1:31 |
Comment From GuestShould I add Kris Davis for my H2H playoffs, or is he bound to come back to Earth the moment I roster him?
1:31 |
Eno Sarris: Safest way to use him is v LHP.
1:31 |
Comment From Rubby of the RoseIn a week?? Beer time, Eno.
1:31 |
Eno Sarris: At the very least I’ll do ‘office hours’ at a bar in NYC for sure.
1:32 |
Comment From Yasiel Puig RoastCan Mesoraco become an offensive force?
1:32 |
Eno Sarris: Very much so. I like him. Just traded for him in my dynasty league.
1:32 |
Comment From Dr. MetIf Semein gets regular AB’s at 2b, do you drop Franklin for him in a keep forever dynasty?
1:32 |
Comment From Rubby of the RoseIs Nick Franklin not good? Everyone liked him and now everyone hates him. Learning curve or not a realistic long-term 2B option?
1:33 |
Eno Sarris: Semien does have a better K rate than Franklin, but Franklin has shown more power. And if Franklin gets his K% down — he’s done it before — then he’s better. Neither has a ton of pedigree. I bet scouts are divided on them. Sorry I don’t have a hard-line answer, but i haven’t seen a ton of Marcus.
1:34 |
Eno Sarris: Hey guys! I gotta go. It’s a park day. Hit me up on twitter if you have a saber-question for someone on the D-Backs.
1:34 |
Comment From bo bodo u use fake users for comment controls…i will assume yes if u do not address
1:34 |
Eno Sarris: Fake users? That’s way too much effort man. I get hundreds of comments and I choose what I want.
1:35 |
Comment From Dr. Metlet us know about NYC office hours please!
1:35 |
Comment From Yasiel Puig RoastThanks!

With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
I tweeted this question also, but thought I’d go ahead and ask here as well. Did you ever check out Chromeo on Live From Daryl’s House? There cover of “Lowdown” is excellent.
