Fan Projection Targets: 12/9/2009
Today’s targets are Ian Kennedy, Ivan Rodriguez, and Joakim Soria.
Kennedy was part of the blockbuster deal yesterday, and finds himself a new home in Arizona.
Rodriguez signed with the Washington Nationals as part-player, part-mentor.
Meanwhile, tomorrow is the annual Rule 5 draft, and Soria is probably the most recent shining example of a raw pitcher being taken and becoming something ridiculous.
We don’t project saves for closers?
Nope. You specify a role (closer) and the rest of the stats. S and BS are projected on the basis of an algorithm for that sort of thing.
Just seems weird, given that we’re asked to provide W and L. Both stats are just as team-dependent as Sv. I’m not being accusatory, just kind of curious.
Well, I’d say saves are particularly weird, even more so than wins and losses and are way more dependent on a pitcher’s role than how well they do, where at least wins and loses have *some* basis in reality.
