It might be Cameron’s job to remember contract stuff, but he forgot that Rusney Castillo got the largest contract for a Cuban!
I think you could make an argument for the Marlins OF as being “the best”. Stanton is a 6 WAR player and both Yelich and Ozuna slot in the 3-4 WAR range each. Personally, I think Yelich could take another step forward and become the heir to the Shin Soo Choo offensive skill set
Idea for draft: Instead of picking in the reverse order of the previous year’s standings, pick in the reverse order of the cumulative three previous seasons’ standings. Limits the amount of tanking possible, especially for perennially good, big-money teams having off years.
Re: abolishing the draft and setting hard caps, the caps would need to apply to only the first dozen or so prospects signed b/c teams still need to fill out their minor league rosters with guys getting $5k-$10k bonuses.
One other potential drawback: If there’s a huge drop-off from the first player to the second, what’s to keep his agent from demanding that the top team surrender their entire allotment?
What was the adjective that was used to describe everything that McCutchen does – awesome? I know there are 30 teams and that’s a lot of baseball, but you couldn’t have watched many Pirates games and made that statement. Have you seen him throw the ball? Strong? Accurate? And I know Pirates fans will give me a bunch of thumbs down, but he isn’t “awesome” defensively. He plays really deep, I’d guess so he doesn’t have to try and catch a ball over his head. If he has to leave his feet, he often doesn’t catch the ball even if he gets to it.
Best OF in baseball? It might end up being, but that’s pretty bold. It doesn’t help when either the 2nd or 3rd best CF taking the field plays the position because well, why does he?
Bigger heart throb – Mookie Betts or Andrew McCutchen?
