Carson Cistulli has published a book of aphorisms called Spirited Ejaculations of a New Enthusiast.
Could a team not expecting to contend until 2016/2017 offer a lesser bonus to Moncada but promise him an MLB roster spot right away? Or offer a preset very fast track to MLB that is less detrimental to his development?
Could the Twins or Braves give Moncada a $25M bonus and promise him a 25 man spot? If back door promises are available, maybe the Yankees could match that promise easier than the Red Sox and Dodgers.
TL;DR
Moncada will break camp on the Yankees 25 man.
I imagine they can promise him whatever they like, but they cannot put anything in the deal which would allow Moncada to enforce that promise, because that would make it a major league contract which is no longer allowed for amateurs.
I’m afraid if Moncada takes the word of an MLB GM on that sort of thing, then we’re going to sour him on this whole ‘capitalism’ thing pretty quick.
