I know nearly nothing about Jeff Passan. I was vaguely aware that he’s a sportswriter, but that’s about it. Didn’t hold an opinion on him either way.
But now knowing he flips out if you pronounce his name in a manner displeasing to him is telling enough that I feel safe in assuming he is a giant dickhead.
(We’ll see how this assumption changes based on his podcast appearance this week!)
FIP-WAR is incorrect and RA9-WAR is incorrect, therefore there exists an X where X x FIP-WAR + (1 – X) x RA9-WAR is correct. Odd conclusion.
By the way I am frequently one of the naysayers on UZR’s contribution to WAR. But I am loving this discussion. I can sincerely tell you that I will not walk away from Fangraphs in disgust any time soon. Disagreements within these circles is a sign of maturity of the sabermetrics internet community.
Also, much of this discussion will fade as the available statistics improve.
