Yep. They have fantastic chemistry together, so it makes for a nice listen. I wish Jeff was on the podcast more often.
I’m going to try and put this as delicately as possible.
I like Dave’s posts and appreciate the role he plays as basically the face of this site. He’s incredibly organized and competent in print, and he also churns out a shit ton of copy. If there was justice in this world, he would be penning editorials for The New York Times. I make my living writing and editing so I know how rare and valuable that kind of thing is.
That being said, I don’t think he has the kind of charisma to pull off entire 40-60 minutes of this show. At least not when compared to Jeff, Kiley and Dayn who have all built up a wonderful rapport with Carson and contrast his style well. I end up being way more excited for these episodes compared to Dave shows.
I don’t know if there are a lot of people writing to say ‘do more strict baseball and ”’sabermetric”’ type shows,’ but personally I turn to something like Effectively Wild for that type of thing, and appreciate this show more when it lets itself drift away from that a bit.
Just, my opinion and I don’t know how many other listeners feel the same.
It also seems like Dave hates doing them, so I’m not sure why it’s their signature show. I’ve come around a little on his and Caron’s interactions, but that’s mostly with how Carson plays off the straight man. If anyone else was the host people would have stopped listening a long time ago.

What’s wrong with Israel?
Well, I guess that makes at least two of us, Carson, because I also always love hearing about Jeff’s (and your) personal stories. The personal stuff is what I listen to these podcasts for every bit as much as the analysis.
Also, the fact that you went through an entire discussion of Greco-Roman-named baseball players without mention the Greek God of Walks is nigh sacrilegious.
That was absolutely delightful. I came for the baseball and left with names for my first two children. May the lord bless and keep you both.
