FanGraphs Opening Day Chat
We’re a week one day away from Opening Day (yes, I know there’s a night game on Sunday, but no one cares about those two teams), and here at FanGraphs, we’ve decided to kick off the season in style. We’re going to host an all day chat session with various FanGraphs and RotoGraphs authors and, if I may say so, a ridiculously awesome panel of guests. Scheduled to attend (all Eastern times):

Plus, a couple others may show up, depending on scheduling. It’s going to be a day full of baseball and conversation, and there won’t be a better place to discuss opening day than right here on the blog.

This should be fun. Any idea what format the chat will take place in? Regardless, I’m excited.
We’re going to use Cover It Live. It will be a moderated chat, so we’ll pick questions from the readers to discuss with the guests and authors.
Awesome. That was my guess/inclination. Seems to work well and (at least from the user end) doesn’t devolve into mass anarchy. Can’t imagine what it’s like on the other side, though!

I hear Peter Abraham requires one chair for each ass cheek.
If Joe Morgan isn’t involved, it’s not consistent enough for me.
There is nothing awesome about Peter Abraham. His EGO/INTEL has been trending the wrong way for some time now.
Having him anywhere near fangraphs is just wrong. You might as well invite Nomar and Heyman, too.
You seem to be under the impression all of these guys have been invited for their insight rather than, say, comedic potential. “Awesome” covers a lot of territory, and as FJM proved, a lot of awesomeness can emerge from the responses to things that are otherwise far from awesome.
Leitch is a hipster dork who professes to love baseball because he thinks it makes him seem deep. His opening day essays on Deadspin have been unreadable.
Just my two cents.

There is absolutely nothing “ridiculously awesome” about Peter Abraham. He’s the biggest (in both senses of the word) hack in professional baseball writing and an embarrassment to his profession
As far as sports writers go, Abraham is decent. Sure he has his annoying tendencies (who doesn’t?), but at least the guy is open-minded about advanced stats. By that reason alone he is much much better than the Jon Heyman and Murray Chass types out there. Those guys still think that W-L record is the most important individual pitching statistic in existence.
Plus his Angel Berroa jokes ARE hilarious.
I find him to be a breath of fresh air in the Boston Globe next to Massarotti and Shaughnessy. I’ll grant you, that’s not saying much.
