Job Postings: Collegiate Baseball Scouting Network

Company Description:
We are a startup created by students and run by students. We seek to provide MLB teams, independent leagues, player representative agencies, and collegiate summer leagues with a third party nationwide scouting network. All positions are paid at rates tied to quantity and quality of work performed. As each position’s payment structure differs slightly, the specifics will be detailed upon inquiry.

To be clear, there are four positions listed here. A general qualification for all four positions is strong communication skills, as interaction remotely through GroupMe, Google Drive and mobile phone will be a vital part of the developmental process, regardless of position.

Position: CBSN Scouting Position

Location: Various

Responsibilities:

  • You will be tasked with scouting now only your school’s players but also opposing school’s players as well.
  • You will complete approximately 100 scouting reports over the course of the season.
  • You will be receiving training in the fall months and during the spring, will have meetings with your regional supervisors to discuss your work.
  • Throughout the year, you will be in constant communication with your fellow scouts and supervisors through GROUPME and email.
  • You will be expected to attend most if not all of your school’s home baseball games.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in as an undergraduate or graduate student, preferably at a school with a baseball program or within reasonable distance of schools with baseball programs.
  • Strong desire to work in baseball operations, player development, or similar areas.

Position: CBSN Analytics Internship

Location: Various

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with analysis, tracking, and review of scouting reports and scouts.
  • Perform research to support the social media, scouting, and writing teams.
  • Analyzing player performance through scouting reports, video, data, etc.
  • Assisting with maximizing efficiency of school expansion efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL (MySQL) and advanced baseball statistics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in R or Python (Pandas, NumPy, etc.).

Position: CBSN Staff Writer

Location: Various

Responsibilities:

  • Pay will be allotted on a per article basis, with a discretionary bonus based on article quality. More information to be provided upon application/inquiry.
  • Position includes writing features and content for the Collegiate Baseball Scouting Network website, cbscout.net.
  • Developing, fluid content schedule.
  • Interest in college baseball, or the will to develop and follow the sport at the collegiate level is required.
  • Minor League Baseball will also present opportunities for columns.
  • Scouting and player development backgrounds are not expected. A desire to learn and adapt is vital.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of AP and SABR styles is a plus, but not required.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills, deep knowledge of baseball.
  • Ability to self-generate content and commit to writing once per week.
  • Work samples.

Position: CBSN Social Media Internship

Location: Various

Responsibilities:

  • Management of all four of CBBSN social media accounts (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/ LinkedIn).
  • Taking stories from our website and creating premium social media content to be shared across all platforms.
  • Bringing new and fresh marketing ideas for reaching out to new audiences.
  • Staying updated on company news and communications in order to keep communications as up-to-date as possible.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Strong knowledge of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Passion for baseball and strong knowledge of technical, baseball-related terms.
