Jon Gray was indeed electric last night. Though I will say that these pitches maybe aren’t the best examples. Chad Fairchild was giving the inside pitch to lefties all night, and in a different game the pitches to Granderson and Duda may have both been balls. As for the third, that’s the pitcher. Gray had a great night, but if he’s relying on getting that inside third strike against lefties like he did last night, he’s going to have a bit more trouble.
Per pitch f/x, that Granderson K was right outside edge of the zone, the Duda K was inside the zone . Umps have called both those pitches strikes in almost every game I’ve watched (in fact, much worse pitches typically get called strikes). I think he can expect to get a lot of strikeouts if he keeps putting pitches there.
