Nick Minnix Baseball Chat — 6/13/14
11:49 |
: Minnix will be here shortly!
|
11:53 |
: Hello, everybody!
|
11:53 |
: We’ll get started in a few, of course!
|
11:53 |
: Can’t wait to field your World Cup questions!
|
11:54 |
: Just kidding.
|
11:54 |
HI ENO! |
11:54 |
Sarris and Minnix are like Rob Base and DJ EZ-Rock. |
11:54 |
: LOL. Total compliment, I think.
|
12:00 |
: Thank you all for joining me, today, and for your patience last week. I’ll try to get to as many ?s as possible, of course. I’ll go less than last week’s 2.5 hours, though, haha. Let’s get started!
|
12:00 |
Freddie Freeman’s slump to worry about? |
12:00 |
: I don’t see a reason to be, no.
|
12:00 |
Hey Nick: What are your thoughts on Matt Harvey next season? I was uncomfortable taking risk on keeping him next year so I traded him for Hamels. Thanks. |
12:01 |
: Depends on your keeper rules. I think he’ll probably struggle a bit initially, as all TJS P’s do, but will get better as season progresses.
|
12:01 |
Which side do you like better: Felix Hernandez for Freddie Freeman. 15 team, 5×5 standard, 5 keeper with freeman having one extra year of keeper status. |
12:01 |
: Freeman side!
|
12:01 |
Self serving question: Sonny Gray or Cole Hamels ROS, and would either be a fair price to pay for Billy Hamilton? |
12:02 |
: Hamels, for me, and … fair is filling a need with a surplus and making your team better for a win!
|
12:02 |
Better MI option in a points league ROS: LeMahieu or Odor? I’m concerned about Odor’s spot in the lineup and the hitters around him |
12:02 |
: Odor – def PT, Rutledge could factor in at some point….
|
12:02 |
Nick, Gio Gonzalez has been having some control issues in his rehab starts…should we lower our expectations for his ROS performance? What do you expect his performance looks like after he returns from injury? |
12:02 |
: Control problems are nothing new for him. I wouldn’t worry yet.
|
12:03 |
I just shipped Kazmir and Elias for Gausman, Masterson and Solarte in a 12 team h2h (5 keepers). Gausman is a 21st round keeper for next year and I an 6-14 right now (we do doubleheaders). Good move or bad move on my part? |
12:03 |
: Love the deal.
|
12:03 |
In light of the article about Donaldson struggling against elite arms. Should that be a major concern? |
12:03 |
: Maybe, but only a little. Great #s so far, no? He’s kind of already on the way down from peak years, generally, so if it’s a keeper league, I’d explore trades. Otherwise, I’d enjoy great #s at 3B.
|
12:04 |
care to rank these OFs for me ROS? Heyward, Holliday, Gordon, Blackmon, Harper, Marte |
12:05 |
: No, but I’ll try! Gordon, Marte, Harper (only because he’s missing a month, may be first), Holliday, Heyward, Blackmon.
|
12:05 |
Do you think Blackmon is an auto-start? Perhapd only in Coors? |
12:05 |
: Hard to say. He’s between his two extremes of this year. Home only is a way to attempt to max his rate of production for you, sure, as long as you have an alt.
|
12:05 |
Hey Nick, ROS rank: deGrom, McHugh, Whitley, Roark? |
12:06 |
: Roark, McHugh-deGrom tie, Whitley
|
12:06 |
can you imagine if david ortiz was actually an amazing soccer player |
12:06 |
: No! I can’t!
|
12:06 |
: Just because he’s a huge dude. A great mascot tho.
|
12:07 |
Why should I still have faith in the Jays? |
12:08 |
: Um… good ?. I think it’s interesting that Aaron Sanchez has already move to AAA, if they’re still in it in a couple of months, he becomes an option, I presume. Maybe sooner, they used to skip AAA, but that was in part because their AAA affil was Vegas.
|
12:08 |
what’s a rob base? |
12:08 |
: It’s like a stolen one, but present tense.
|
12:08 |
I just tweeted this to Eno! “Is Jimmy Nelson criminally underrated?”. I think yes. |
12:08 |
I’m looking at both the Steamer and Zips projections for my 2Bs, and I see Utley as the clear leader over Kipnis. Do you agree? I had been running Utley out there during Kipnis’ DH stay, and in the Utility spot, but I’m going to need to clear space soon. Thoughts on those two for the rest of the season? |
12:08 |
: No, I’d still rather have Kipnis.
|
12:08 |
Do the Pirates have a shot at acquiring Price or the Shark? What prospects would it take? |
12:09 |
: Interesting question, I’d think not, seems unlike their MO to give up what it’d take.
|
12:09 |
watching people sing national anthems on mute is a pretty great time, all things considered |
12:09 |
Please rank ROS: Laroche, Morse, Napoli |
12:10 |
: Napoli (I’m partial), Morse, LaRoche
|
12:10 |
RoS and then also going forward, how do you rank Bryant, Baez, Gallo? |
12:10 |
: ROS: Bryant, Baez, Gallo
|
12:10 |
: LT: Baez, Gallo, Bryant
|
12:10 |
Is the Louie supposed to be a comedy or not? I can’t figure it out. |
12:10 |
: Not sure who Louie is?
|
12:11 |
Qualls or Belisario? |
12:11 |
: Brussels sprouts or liver? Um, Belisario I go.
|
12:11 |
Do you trust Tomlin at all as a streamer? |
12:11 |
: Yes, but I like him more than the crowd. Smart pitcher, GB stuff.
|
12:11 |
Do you think McCann figures the American League pitchers out soon or is what we’re currently seeing what we’re stuck with ROS? |
12:12 |
: ROS: low AVG, .240 or .250 at best, more HR for sure. It’s who he is now.
|
12:12 |
Craig, Holliday, Molina…it has to get better, right? |
12:12 |
: Yes, particularly for the first and last, but Holliday’s FB% decline concerns me and has for a year+
|
12:12 |
How good is Tyson Ross? top 20? top 40? |
12:13 |
: Top 40 sounds fair
|
12:13 |
N. Ramirez, J. Familia, B. Ziegler, J. Benoit, AJ Ramos; rank in order of saves ROS? |
12:14 |
: Ramirez, Ziegler (gets a few in short period), Familia, Ramos. Benoit is a wild card, I can’t predict Street injury, although my powers seem to be that great, I know.
|
12:14 |
Non-keeper which side do you like Puig/Keuchel or Cutch/Verlander? |
12:14 |
: Oy. I like the latter, but it’s really preference for the risk that Verlander rebounds. It’s anyone’s guess, slightly encouraging lately.
|
12:15 |
: Heads up, i’m at 12:02 time stamps!
|
12:15 |
Werth, Marte or Morse ROS? |
12:16 |
: Morse and Werth are more about health than whether they’ll hit. Marte is the safest, but this is a learning year, about adversity. I think he has a strong/solid 2nd half.
|
12:16 |
Sir Daniel Santana will remember he is just Danny Santana when??? |
12:16 |
: Ask the queen! I keep wondering. Soon.
|
12:16 |
LETS GO ROOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!! |
12:16 |
: Top couple, no less, likely.
|
12:17 |
What tier SP would you trade for Harper right now, in a redraft? |
12:17 |
: Top couple, to repeat, tier
|
12:17 |
Assure me that holding on to Taijuan Walker will pay off this year and as a keeper in the years to come. |
12:17 |
: It will! Just because you demanded it.
|
12:17 |
: Years to come, at least. I hope.
|
12:17 |
Dave Wright no longer a top 5 3B? |
12:17 |
: Possible, I never make up my mind based on a few months.
|
12:18 |
Tavares back down the minors? |
12:18 |
: I expect so.
|
12:18 |
David Wright…What do I do with him? |
12:18 |
: Hold – generally speaking.
|
12:19 |
Which team, if any, is poised for a surprising second half run at the playoffs? |
12:20 |
: How about the Rays? Pirates, since folks called them a fluke, some.
|
12:20 |
Would you look to get wahtever you can for Choo? He’s not running (maybe due to ankle) and that lineup is not what it was at beginning of year |
12:20 |
: I think it’s a good rec, if you can get ~top 50 value for him and fill a need.
|
12:20 |
11 pts up in roto. should I sell the farm for Cano or pay much less for Utley? MI spot. |
12:21 |
: How much of farm we talkin’? Utley is healthy and should stay that way. He’s solid, hitting for the power.
|
12:21 |
: More anyway.
|
12:21 |
NL only, roto, keeper, OBP instead of AVG: Who do you feel most comfortable trading away for steals: Adrian Gonzalez, Allen Craig or Matt Holliday? |
12:21 |
: Prefer to deal Holliday in a keeper if I can.
|
12:21 |
is this going to be another fantasy-oriented chat…? |
12:22 |
: If that’s the way the ?s go! I try to answer whatever I see, my friend.
|
12:22 |
You think V-Mart will get catcher eligibility this year? |
12:22 |
: Think it’s a very good possibility, but not sure by when to make it useful esp.
|
12:22 |
Someone dropped Austin Jackson in my league. He’s beginning to hit a bit. Do you see him turning this around? |
12:22 |
: For sure.
|
12:22 |
Mookie Betts in Boston OF when? |
12:23 |
: Eno has convinced me sometime in second half, will say late August or September tho, I’m cautious.
|
12:23 |
Keeper league 7×7 Roto (SLG & Off K’s). In 2nd place with guys like kipnes, Longoria, C.Santana, Hosmer yet to start hitting. Top 3 in most pitching categories, middle of the pack in hitting. I got offered E.Encarnacion($38) for K.Bryant ($3). Am I patient for my guys and let this ride out or do I trade my stud keeper for a better chance this year. |
12:24 |
: Hmmmm … If your keeper rules inflate Bryant salary every year, I’d be more tempted. I want the title, I like your guys who are cold, but I’d try to lock up the win.
|
12:24 |
What speed is the average SS to 1b throw? high 80s? |
12:24 |
: Honestly, I do not know.
|
12:24 |
Samuel Eto’o is the Greg Oden of Futbol, no? |
12:25 |
: LOL, maybe more like the Julio Franco?
|
12:25 |
I’m out of it and starting to look towards next year in my keeper league. Good idea to try and trade for Bryce Harper while he’s injured in hopes that he’ll be performing at his prevous level by next year? |
12:25 |
: Great idea if you can do it.
|
12:25 |
Start Lynn at home to Wash tonight? |
12:25 |
: Sure, WSH hot, but not quite as good vs. RHP.
|
12:25 |
rank these SPs in terms of likelihood of being traded: Shark, Price, Colon, Hammel, Masterson, Shields, CLee, Lester |
12:26 |
: Geez. Price, Shark, same tier, CLee, then the rest in a final tier.
|
12:26 |
Morneau’s home/away splits aren’t as lopsided as everyone (myself included) crediting Coors for reviving his career seems to assume they are. Is he actually back? Or is this some sort of dead cat bounce? |
12:27 |
: Closer to dead cat bounce? He’s pretty much performing at the high end of what his probable baseline is from now on, or what that’d cause me to project, I’d say.
|
12:27 |
Cobb just got put on waivers. Do I drop any of these guys for him? Bailey, Kluber or Fister? |
12:27 |
: Ugh, no, but I’d want him!
|
12:27 |
: Maybe Bailey.
|
12:27 |
: 6 of one….
|
12:27 |
Pick two: Rosario, Castro, Ruiz, Suzuki, Gomes, Ramos. |
12:28 |
: Rosario, Gomes
|
12:28 |
Is it possible that Andrew McCutchen is still underrated, even after winning NL MVP last season? .321/.435/.550, .427 WOBA and I feel like nobody is talking about him. |
12:28 |
: Then, yes. Haha.
|
12:28 |
Pick three: Rosario, Ramos, (Yan) Gomes, Gattis, Castro, Suzuki, Ruiz |
12:28 |
: Rosario, Gomes, Gattis
|
12:28 |
Kyle Seager for Stroman? I have lots of hitting depth and don’t really need Seager. |
12:29 |
: I think you can get more reliable for him. Stroman I like but a wild card.
|
12:29 |
Why do people ask about trades after they’ve made them? What, are they going to ask for takes-backsies if you say you didn’t like it? |
12:29 |
: Those people have time machines. Get one! They’re neat.
|
12:29 |
: Or they like some affirmation, it’s understandable.
|
12:29 |
Will Bundy pitch in Baltimore this year? |
12:30 |
: Yes, as long as BAL is within range of a wild card spot.
|
12:30 |
I was talking about the TV show Louie (CK). For a show by the top comedian of our time, theres not too many laughs, right? |
12:30 |
: I’d say not. I don’t watch it, though.
|
12:30 |
Thoughts on Domonic Brown? |
12:31 |
: He’s not as good as 27 HR, swing has been a tad long again, he’s just not consistent yet. Has been different in box from last year.
|
12:31 |
Kemp or Marte ROS |
12:31 |
: Marte, just a safer choice. I’d be int. in Kemp next year, cautiously.
|
12:32 |
Keeper, would you trade the next 3-4 years of G. Cole for the rest of this year of D. Price? If I wanted to keep Price this offseason would cost 2 keeper slots |
12:32 |
: I suppose if you aim for a slight boost in effort to win league. Otherwise, not sure of the point?
|
12:32 |
Is Hosmer droppable in a 12-Team Mixed league? I can’t even get low-ball offers on a trade… |
12:33 |
: Depends on what makes up lineup in your league. No CI, probably droppable.
|
12:33 |
: All depends on what you can replace him with.
|
12:33 |
Is it safe to drop Jackie Bradley in a 12 team keeper league? |
12:33 |
: Mixed? Sure, if you can get something better. Otherwise, depends.
|
12:33 |
Which fantasy baseball player have you had lusty baseball feelings for this morning? |
12:34 |
: Oy. Private question. It’s OK, I’m open. I confess … Lucroy.
|
12:34 |
Is giving Cole for Soria about the right value? I have no idea how to trade, but I do need saves. |
12:35 |
: In a vacuum, it’s fair, sure. Address a need. I think you might be able to get a better closer for him, but it’s relative. Ask around the league, see who’s willing to give up a CL. Otherwise, deal for Soria or wait.
|
12:36 |
Can you rank these SPs, ROS ? What guy(s) do you think are worth keeping for next year? Ross, Gausman, Ventura, Wood, Kennedy |
12:36 |
: Geez. Ross, Ventura, Kennedy, Wood, Gausman. But so many variables. Any could be, impossible to say now.
|
12:37 |
Hey Nick, standard 5×5, 12-team roto league, in first by about 15, avg is my weak point (3-4 pts), in it to win it. Would Tulo/Giolito for Buxton, Myers, Taveras, Segura be a big overpay (OFs are those included +Stanton/Heyward/B-Ham, have Machado/Bogaerts/Segura clogging up the IF)? Thanks so much! |
12:37 |
: To win it and trading Tulo? Does not compute. Yes, too much.
|
12:37 |
Kyle Blanks can has career now? I free from Petco? |
12:38 |
: Yes, go with it, my friend.
|
12:38 |
: I’m at 12:17 in the queue, folks!
|
12:38 |
: I’m slow 🙁
|
12:38 |
Redraft Points, OBP H2H – I’m a little short on pitching, but not dire. My Melky and Stroman for his Cashner/Wheeler and Robertson? Would you rather have Wheeler or Cashner ROS? |
12:39 |
: Cashner, by a hair. If you address a need and can afford to give up Melky, sure.
|
12:39 |
How would you rank young MI’s like E.Suarez, Odor, La Stella? All of them off to hot starts but wondering whose production will stick. |
12:39 |
: Odor, most counting upside. OBP league, La Stella appealing and a plus in OBP. Otherwise, Suarez more counting potential
|
12:39 |
What do you think of Marte? Would you trade Marte and Owings for Segura and A Jackson in a 5×5 redraft OBP league? |
12:40 |
: Good deal, I think. Marte: growing pains.
|
12:40 |
How do you not give Gausman a rotation spot after his last 3 starts? |
12:41 |
: You look in the mirror and see Buck Showalter? I think they expect him to be, just keeping his IP count down, will be a boost by second half.
|
12:41 |
No one is talking about David Robertson`s 16+ K/9. Talk about it! |
12:41 |
: His K/9 is 16+! It is awesome, especially if you drafted him after all the other guys who do that!
|
12:41 |
What is your specialty in chats like this? Fantasy? Sabearmetrics? Prospects? WHAT DO YOU DO?! |
12:42 |
: Fantasy is my specialty. I know general baseball, but I’m not calling myself an expert. Prospects is my least familiar area, I’d say. I know some quite well, others little to none. Ask and if I know I will answer.
|
12:42 |
Is it time to drop Verlander, Nick? I wrote about this at FT recently and readers were flabbergasted. JV is killing owners in WHIP and Ks. |
12:43 |
: Shallow league, OK, I can see it easily, should already have done so though. Otherwise, I’d hold and be cautiously optimistic.
|
12:43 |
Keuchel or Iwakuma ROS? Sorta cut of the same ilk – GB types with modest K% and low BB%. |
12:43 |
: Iwakuma. Like Keuchel, don’t get me wrong.
|
12:43 |
Please choose one to sit one for tonight… Gray vs Yanks, Colon @ Pads, Lackey @ Indians |
12:43 |
: Lackey
|
12:43 |
: My hunch
|
12:44 |
Bonifacio droppable in a 14 team mixer if no room on DL? |
12:44 |
: I’d wait for prognosis. Haven’t seen one, apologies if it’s out.
|
12:44 |
What do you think about Dozier ROS? Sell high now or will he continue his tear? |
12:45 |
: Sell high is relative. He won’t keep up the pace, already hasn’t.
|
12:45 |
Remember my name… I’m kind of a big deal around here… |
12:45 |
: Big Joe Mufferaw!
|
12:45 |
Derek Holland worth a DL stash in a 14 team roto mixer? |
12:45 |
: Yes, worth a shot.
|
12:45 |
Ready to drop Aaron Hill to add Rutledge? |
12:45 |
: PT not assured. Close, but not quite.
|
12:46 |
Dee Gordon for Chris Davis in a standard 12-team H2H. Who wins? |
12:46 |
: Whichever filled a need better. Davis on pure value perceived, sure, but it’s mostly about need vs. what effect on standings besides you, too.
|
12:46 |
How surprising is the Giant’s record to you? |
12:47 |
: Only a little, to be this far above .500. Expected them to be a strong challenger for NL West.
|
12:47 |
How awesome has D-Rod has been? (if you take out that 1 blow up).. His K rate is off the charts at 16.28 K/9 and he is getting 52.3 GB% |
12:47 |
: Awesome! Awesome. Awe-some. 3 R in that bad outing were inherited runners.
|
12:47 |
How long does Street keep this up? |
12:47 |
: As long as he’s healthy. So, until … next week?
|
12:47 |
: Some correction, a little, definitely likely.
|
12:48 |
Rank for a) ROS and b) Career: Wong vs Odor, then Mookie vs Lindor |
12:48 |
: ROS: Odor, Wong; Betts, Lindor Career: same; reverse
|
12:48 |
Any word on Waino’s injury? Sell him now or target him at a discount? |
12:49 |
: No word that I’ve seen. It’s worrisome. I don’t “sell low” on guys like that. I’d consider sell only if I could get close to great return I’d expect otherwise.
|
12:49 |
Marlins skipping Heaney’s start in the minors to save innings for the majors later this summer if they’re still in striking distance. Maybe smarter than most give them credit for? |
12:49 |
: Haha, perhaps. Smart, ruthless.
|
12:49 |
should I swap Nick Franklin for Jimmy Rollins in Ottoneu? thanks. |
12:50 |
: Shot to win this year, then a good move, IMO.
|
12:50 |
Obviously Tim Hudson cannot sustain this type of success, how bad will the regression be? |
12:50 |
: Maybe whatever it takes to get close to xFIP, SIERA … 3.25.
|
12:50 |
: He’s good, hard to answer the ??
|
12:51 |
my back from college summer job is mowing lawns. its rained 4 days straight nonstop. do you have the magical powers to make it stop? |
12:51 |
: Just be glad you don’t live in Brazil? For many reasons, social unrest especially, but have you seen pitch in Mexico-Cameroon match. Be thankful.
|
12:51 |
Why is Shark being valued so highly? He has a 5.something WAR for his career (Bref)… I just dont see him as the elite pitcher the cubs are trying to sell |
12:53 |
: I think he has ability that allows him to be close to elite. Throws 95-97 mph two-seamer. Pretty good.
|
12:53 |
Do you think we’ll see Heaney called up to the Marlins next week? |
12:53 |
: Ummm … No?
|
12:53 |
: Stamp: 12:27
|
12:53 |
What type of closer should I expect to get back if I dangle Leonys Martin? |
12:53 |
: An OK one, not elite.
|
12:53 |
Aren’t we overrating Harper at this point? He has had one dominant month in his career? I know that he could be a great player. But til this point, hasn’t he been just “good” not “great? He always gets held in the same regard as Trout, who has actually played at a high level for much longer. |
12:54 |
: I held him in higher regard than Trout. Still do, for career, to be straight with you. He’s … 21? The ability is apparent. The acumen for the sport is off the charts, goes a long way with me. Combine it with that talent, better to me, still.
|
12:55 |
: Trout concerns me a tad more long-term.
|
12:55 |
chase whitley is going to fall apart in _ weeks |
12:55 |
: 1-2
|
12:55 |
I was just offered his Morneau for my Carlos Santana. I’m leaning NO… any thoughts? |
12:55 |
: No
|
12:55 |
Was offered Napoli/Peavy for Agon/Gee (not taking that). Is a counter of Agon/Cain for Strasburg fair? Or am I over paying? 5×5 h2h 16 team 3 keeper |
12:55 |
: Overpay. I’d want a bat back.
|
12:56 |
Grandil a top 8 C if given full ABs? |
12:56 |
: Top 18, maybe. Has adjustments to make.
|
12:56 |
was going for likelihood of a July trade: Shark 80%, Hammel 75%, Colon 75%, Price 60%, Shields 50%, Masterson 30%, Lee 25%, Lester 5%…. something like that |
12:57 |
: I cannot say. But I don’t expect it until 2016, at least.
|
12:57 |
When do we see Heaney and what can we expect from him? |
12:57 |
: Maybe by July, IDK. I think he’ll be hit and miss from start to start, or at least a tale of two stretches, one good, one not.
|
12:58 |
When does Carlos Correa debut? He’s too great not to get the call by June 2015, right? |
12:58 |
: This was my answer: Nicholas Minnix: I cannot say. But I don’t expect it until 2016, at least.
|
1:00 |
was going for likelihood of a July trade: Shark 75%+, Hammel 25%, Colon 25%, Price 75%+, Shields 5%, Masterson 5%, Lee 50%, Lester 5%…. how’s that? |
1:00 |
What is(are) your favorite team(s) ? |
1:00 |
: Phillies
|
1:00 |
Why do people care what other people ask you? |
1:00 |
: They’re just looking out for me. It’s sweet.

Pick a side: Wainright + Fister + C. Santana + Hill OR Dozier + Beckett + Arcia + Morales + Ramos + Dickey |
1:00 |
: Geez. The first one.
|
1:01 |
Health aside, pleae rank T. Walker, Paxton, Heaney, and Meyer ROS. |
1:01 |
: Walker, Meyer, Paxton (but his healthy worries me most), Heaney. I could be way off on Heaney, I must admit.
|
1:01 |
The metrics show that Nolan Arenado is great defensively but just an average bat. However, some analysts hype him as the next great thing. Where do you fall in regards to his future FANTASY value? |
1:02 |
: I think he’s overrated a little in fantasy, but the environment mitigates that. He’s pretty good, not elite, talent, in COL.
|
1:02 |
Votto shook off his critics asking about his slow start earlier this year, saying his numbers are always there at the EOY, do you believe him? |
1:03 |
: I believe him, I’ve seen #s at the end of every season. They’re not elite #s, if you’re asking that. Very good tho.
|
1:03 |
Would you trade Holliday for Dickerson in a Keeper league? |
1:03 |
: Not quite yet.
|
1:03 |
: If ever. Dickerson is just a good guy in a deep mixed league, 5th OF probably
|
1:03 |
: Which is good, don’t get me wrong.
|
1:03 |
This season of Louie has been extremely well made. Might not be a classic slap stick comedy but smart and always worth a watch. |
1:03 |
Thoughts on the Rockies-Braves kerfuffle? Is everybody even now? |
1:04 |
: Seems that way. Fredi seemed to say so.
|
1:04 |
Jimmy Nelson is banging down the MLB door. How long can the Brewers realistically stick with the BP machine that is Marco Estrada? |
1:04 |
: For a little while, I believe, at least until the break to see if the HR/9 turns around.
|
1:04 |
What will the Cubs get for Hammel? |
1:05 |
: No idea. Not an everyday player surely.
|
1:05 |
trumbo going to be worth anything this season? keeps getting his TL pushed back and back |
1:05 |
: Should be in 2nd half at some point, but hard to say confidently.
|
1:06 |
Heany, Syndergaard, Bradley, Meyer, Montero, Gausman |
1:06 |
: Gausman, Meyer, Bradley, … for Stroman, not quite yet, but as they get closer. For this season.
|
1:06 |
: Probably more.
|
1:07 |
Which species from Star Trek could most likely produce a baseball player to rival Mike Trout? |
1:07 |
: I do not know, sorry. I will guess Vulcans?
|
1:07 |
Does Lindor give you replacement value of Cabrera ROS if he were brought up today? |
1:07 |
: I’m sure that’s a good bet, a SS
|
1:07 |
Will the Cubs have the best Minor League system after the trade deadline? |
1:08 |
: I suppose that’s possible, surely, since they have some sick talent down there already.
|
1:08 |

1:08 |
: Yes
|
1:08 |
: In a vacuum
|
1:08 |
What does Votto do differently than other players in order to never hit infield flies? |
1:08 |
: Never swing the bat. Has a good swing plane.
|
1:09 |
Miller of Ackley ROS for my MI? |
1:10 |
: I like Roark, more than Heaney to be honest. I’m not totally familiar with Heaney to be fair. I’d like Roark ROS, toss-up after that, for me, will give benefit of doubt to Heaney lovers for long run.
|
1:10 |
I had to activate Taijuan Walker off DL, & I picked up Heaney this week. Someone just dropped Tanner Roark. Gausman also available. Should I drop Walker or Heaney for Roark? 8 keeper 10-team H2H. Thanks Nicholas! |
1:10 |
: Previous answer.
|
1:10 |
Miller of Ackley ROS for my MI? Miller. |
1:11 |
: Sorry, guys, occasionally I throw a question in the chat and it selects the wrong one, or I don’t know how to use this software well yet.
|
1:11 |

Brussel sprouts are delicious |
1:12 |
: Yuck. I haven’t had them in ages, I admit.
|
1:12 |
No, Nick, I’d be the one getting Tulo! lol |
1:12 |
: Get Tulo, surely, get a W!
|
1:12 |
In your opinion, who is the biggest mover (positive) on the prospect lists this season? Gallo? |
1:12 |
: Top of my head, IDK, but I think he’s a good stab at the top of that list, surely. Good call.
|
1:13 |
Where would you rank Braun amongst outfielders ROS? Eric Karabell wrote a predictions article on ESPN today and said it’s a mistake to assume Braun is a top-20 OF this season, is barely there right now, and trending in the wrong direction the last month. What do you think? |
1:13 |
: I think he’s top 20, assuming health, surely.
|
1:13 |
Odds Stanton gets traded this offseason? |
1:13 |
: I think about 0%
|
1:13 |
Thoughts on Alfredo Simon ROS? |
1:14 |
: Think it’s too late to buy, but I like him. Concern that fatigue will set in, corrections in peripherals combined with that could hurt.
|
1:14 |
Equating quality of comedy with number of laughs is a bit simple. |
1:14 |
When–or IF–Carlos Rodon signs where would you slot him in the ranks of SP fantasy prospects? |
1:15 |
: Sorry, I have seen nothing of the player, just that I read of how much he’s coveted. Difficult to say on these, for me.
|
1:15 |
Are injuries the only way Robert Stephenson makes it to Cincinnati this year? |
1:15 |
: I’d say so.
|
1:15 |
I got an offer for Werth. His Marte. What do you think? Marte’s inconsistency is what is scaring me off of it….. |
1:15 |
: It’s a fair offer. I like Marte, more reliable age and health wise. I assume this is NOT a keeper league, haha.
|
1:16 |
I like how people with fantasy Q’s grumble at Cameron and Sullivan’s chats, and people with general baseball Q’s grumble at the fantasy centered chats. Dudes! Just put on a fake name and a mustache, re-frame your question slightly and ask it in a silly voice. No one will be able to tell the difference! |
1:16 |
Is Zobrist traded? |
1:16 |
: If he is, someone should tell him! I say … man, I say no, right now.
|
1:16 |
Morneau or Adam Lind? |
1:16 |
: Toss-up … Lind, just younger. No other reason.
|
1:17 |
Corey Dickerson. What is his talent level? Can he be a fantasy star? Or is he just hot right now? |
1:17 |
: Not a star, Eno points out, has potential platoon split extreme. Can be above-average platoon player at least, though, like the power/speed combo.
|
1:18 |
First closer to be dealt? Paps, Street, Hawkins, Cishek? |
1:18 |
: Street is the only one of those I think might be dealt.
|
1:18 |
: Might, or will
|
1:18 |
Favotire early 2000`s Drum and base dj? |
1:19 |

|
1:19 |
Sabathia worth a DL stash? |
1:19 |
: In a deep league, think he can be, yes.
|
1:20 |
: Heads up, all: I’ll be stopping in about 10 minutes. I hope I get to your question! I’m sorry if I don’t.
|
1:20 |
In a H2H league, is it too soon to not trade with someone because they’re 1st in the standings and your trade benefits them? |
1:20 |
: If you get better overall, it’s too soon to worry about that, depending on how dominant that person’s team is.
|
1:20 |
ROS McHugh or Roark? |
1:20 |
: Roark
|
1:21 |
Guys showing reverse platoon splits in ~1000 MLB PAs. Actionable or nosiy? |
1:21 |
: It really depends on the player. After that large of a sample, there’s likely a reason for it. I’d call it marginably actionable, in my amateur estimate. What a help, eh?
|
1:22 |
Do B Miller or Semien hold any fantasy value next year? |
1:22 |
: Yes, surely. Both, probably about the same outlook, right now, for next season, like Miller a tad more. Semien has more upside, better HR park.
|
1:22 |
Steven Vogt rosterable in 12-team mixed, 2-catcher league? Slim options to fill in for Ramos … Avila, Vogt, Iannetta,it goes downhill from there. |
1:23 |
: Yikes. I couldn’t imagine, but maybe. C is awful this year.
|
1:23 |
Does the move to skip Heaney’s start in the minors provide you with any indication about the time frame for his call-up. I grabbed him this week, but thinking I was too early… |
1:23 |
: I don’t think so, just shows that they expect to keep his IP down, and hope he’s a factor in a wild card race.
|
1:23 |
What do you think of Cole Hamels ROS? Is he a top-15 SP? |
1:24 |
: Very much could be, surely, but W’s remain dodgy. Top 25 a safe target.
|
1:24 |
: Love the K’s potential with the change.
|
1:24 |
: Stamp: 12:53
|
1:24 |
ive been watching the rain in Brzail; its somewhat comparable. but hey, makes the slide tackles more interesting, at least! |
1:24 |
: Hells yeah!
|
1:24 |
In your opinion, what are the ideal categories for a roto league, thanks. |
1:26 |
: in part what you enjoy, largely what doesn’t become overly redundant. I prefer AVG to OBP, honestly. I like R, RBI, SB traditional style. HR or SLG is take your pick, SLG is fairer IMO. for pitching, ERA, WHIP, K’s are fine. W+QS and SV+HLD better it seems than the traditional, I think. I think we should develop a cat that replaces QS even.
|
1:26 |
: El Tri!
|
1:26 |
Who was your favorite player when you were 6 years old? |
1:26 |
: Mike Schmidt
|
1:26 |
Maybin is dropable in 12-team mixed right? |
1:26 |
: Yes, has to better avail
|
1:27 |
Time to Geek It Up! How do you handle your fantasy leagues? Do you have spreadsheets with the entire league’s rosters? Multiple projections? Fancy Vlookups & pivot tables to look at ROS projections and projected standings? How do you handle things like Innings Limits and some teams having far more reserve spots at one position etc? I think this type of in-season league-wide management isn’t really discussed all that much! |
1:27 |
: Honestly, I don’t do that. I used to have too many leagues to do that. I think that’s serious dedication and I applaud it, tho! More information is never bad, as long as your discerning.
|
1:28 |
: I use spreadsheets, but mostly for organization, and I do many estimates in my head these days. Too much to manage otherwise, for me.
|
1:28 |
Why do the Braves know so many unwritten rules that no one else does? And why do they think its ok to throw a hard object in excess of 90 mph at someone for supposedly breaking one? Wasn’t last night as bad as Machado? |
1:28 |
: They wrote the book of unwritten rules, Jon. Sheesh. Harold Reynolds wrote the preface.
|
1:29 |
If you could demand and execute any trade of any player to any team, who would it be and WHY? |
1:29 |
: Bryce Harper to the Phillies. Because it’s my favorite team, and they’re going to suck for as long as Ruben Amaro is employed there.
|
1:30 |
Non kepper 11 team roto. My Abreu and Morasco for his Ventura and Posey. What side do you want? |
1:30 |
: Former side. Love Bobby Abreu.
|
1:30 |
: J/K, but Jose Abreu, corrections aside, still part of better side, more bats.
|
1:30 |
I do like the affirmation about a trade I made or a slap if it was a bad deal so I can see what others think since I’m not all-knowing. |
1:31 |
: It never hurts to ask!
|
1:31 |
Try to buy low on Tavares in a keeper league? What do you think his current value should be? |
1:31 |
: It hasn’t changed. He’s still one of the top dynasty prospects. Hard to see how the last couple of weeks have changed that.
|
1:31 |
Rank ROS (ERA,WHIP,k/9): Bauer, Heaney, Stroman, Gausman, Ventura |
1:32 |
: Bauer, Ventura, Stroman, Gausman, Heaney — PT being major variables.
|
1:32 |
Philadelphia: worst fans on Earth! |
1:32 |
: Except me! I don’t fit the stereotype, trust me.
|
1:32 |
What is the most important metric stat in your opinion? |
1:33 |
: One by itself is practically useless. K% is one of the most useful, I’d say.
|
1:33 |
2014 Innings pitched by Danny Salazar in the majors ROS — over/under 50? |
1:34 |
: Man. Under, makes me cry. But … close. I keep hope alive for August, mid-August.
|
1:34 |
rank for save speculation: Joba, Black, Peralta, Axford, Hunter |
1:35 |
: Axford for a little bit, back to Allen; Hunter; Joba, MAYBE … jeez; Black, Peralta
|
1:35 |
: Last two, man, hard to say.
|
1:35 |
Who would you rather own moving forward: Dustin Pedroia or Brian Dozier? |
1:36 |
: I don’t care for Pedroia much. Dozier, more counting stats.
|
1:37 |
: Ah man. Well folks, I’ve hit past the 1:00 mark on time stamps, it’s past 1:30 today. Going to call it a day. I appreciate everyone’s patience. And questions! Good questions, good comments, keep them coming as always. I hope to get to you next time if I didn’t this time especially. I welcome feedback, like you gave after my first one, too! Can always get better. Thank you!

With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
16 team mixed 5*5 with OPS instead of BA – who is more valuable next year Tavares or Springer?
Taveras is just as good a bet, if not better. Safer investment in any future years, more so the more years. Like Springer’s counting stats ability in short term (first two or three) though. Depends!
