Paul Sporer: Probably top 12, but that’s more bc the position has been garbage so far this year. You just never know how ready a 20-year old will be. Temper expectations, but obviously he’s someone you gotta go for when called up.

Paul Sporer: I’m completely cool with that trade if you need pitching. If you want to stream, that works, too. Both answers are legitimate. I think Cole is enough for Marte, though, and it’ll save you the headache of streaming especially if you have O behind Marte.

What’s your take on Shelby Miller? Is he 4 realz? Would you trade he and Ortiz for Freeman or Votto?

Paul Sporer: Yeah I think he’s a really good pitcher, so there is a lot of realness ot what we’re seeing. As much as I love Votto, I think that’s a little much. Unless you think this is finally the year Ortiz doesn’t bounce back. He’s been much lower than this and rebounded so I think he’ll be fine. The diff between Ortiz and those two studs isn’t Miller.

Paul Sporer: I like Heaney. I haven’t looked it over to have all the young names ready. Of course there will be some impact arms coming up, but they aren’t as obvious right now with Syndergaard, Bradley, and Rodon already up. I like Tropeano from LAA, too.

Paul Sporer: A’s and White Sox w/lefties. Angels are anemic outside of Trout & Calhoun right now. Phillies are probably the only universal, though. I don’t buy MIL as a total dud offensively and they seem to be starting to regress toward their mean. Same with PIT.

Paul Sporer: More coming on him today, but I’d go for him in just about anything but 10-teamers. I think there’d be enough starters available in a 10-team to not necessarily go for him just yet. Although if you’ve got a open reserve spot, he’s a good stash. I’m buying.

Paul Sporer: I’d want a pretty good one. I’d maybe try for an Arrieta-type. See where your trade partners are at on Fielder. I’d settle for like a Quintana or Burnett WITH another piece. But Arrieta-level in a 1-for-1

Best strategy to win DFS GPP? It seems like stacking 1-2 lineups wins most days but hard to tell if that’s popular because its effective or vice versa.

Paul Sporer: For a GPP you usually need one mid-or-low tier SP to go off and then a less-obvious stack.

Paul Sporer: For the most part, yes. But they will skip him here and there or slot in a sixth guy. He’s only going to get about 160 IP this year (and maybe fewer if they don’t turn it around) and he’s already used 22.

Just finished reading Big Data by Travis Sawchik (chronicles the Pirates’ 2013 season, I highly recommend for all FG readers). One of the main themes was that analytics is alive in every clubhouse but the key is getting old school managers and guys who play the game to actually implement it on the field. I would postulate this is why teams are moving towards hiring younger managers (Matheny, Weiss, Redmond), do you think I am on to something?

Paul Sporer: Can’t wait for this book. Gonna have to audiobook it (comes out next week) but I’m super excited. I can definitely see the what you’re saying being part of the reason we’re seeing younger guys get these jobs, sometimes with no managing exp.

Paul Sporer: Guerrero. Yeah I think Ziegs gets the shot. I subscribe to draft skills not roles, but if you really need SVs, i think he gets the first shot. If it’s more luxury, then go for Delgado on a spec
